Good Morning on this beautiful last Monday of August. Temp is 58°. Just came in from a morning walk with the dogs. Had to get a urine sample from Piper, which was successful. We leave for the vet in a little while.

Velda, was sorry to hear about all your problems. Hope that it will get all straightened out, so you can get your life back in track.
Watching the hurricane heading toward FL. Looks like it’s tracking toward Irmi and Steve, Liz, Birdie and whomever else is up that way. I was worried for my neighbors whose home and park in Englewood, was damaged in Ian last year. But think they will be missed this time. They are on a cruise to AK and last thing they need to worry about is a hurricane right now. They spent almost all last winter working on the house and helping neighbors in the park getting things repaired etc. etc. Don’t need a repeat.

Don’t know what I will be getting into today. Depends on what time we get back from vet. Might go back to working on window project or might mow front sub entrance grass. But right now, need to get us going here. Trash day, so need to put that out before we leave. Vet is only 5 miles up the road.

So, all those in path of hurricane, getting fire smoke etc. stay safe.

Cool, but sunny, here--hope this helps the ground dry out! As soon as I finish this and have a quick breakfast snack, I'm off to the Grey Roots Historical Museum. I love that every county in Ontario has a staffed genealogical place, either at a library or local museum. Makes it very easy to have someone look up on a map where a family lived. Funny how so many people married the girl or boy next door!

Had a slight sore throat last night and swollen glands around my neck, but it is much better today. I am very sensitive to swollen glands as they can by a symptom of going out of remission, but then again, they can be nothing. It has been almost four years since I finished my last CLL targeted treatment pills, so I worry if my time is going to come soon for more treatment. At least that will mean only a repeat of the previous treatment--infusions of monoclonal antibody and more Venetoclax pills, which is not really awful. I guess I should be more grateful to have this disease when there is such good treatment--makes me feel guilty when others have a form of cancer for which there is only surgery, radiation, and chemo. Got to keep reminding me of how lucky I am, but there is always that gnawing worry in the background. In any case, when I do need more treatment, I will have months to plan where and when, but almost certainly back in Oregon. (There is a new book out called "For Blood and Money" that talks about the pharmaceutical industry and lists my doctor in Eugene as having given the first two CLL targeted treatment pills to two dying patients who lived!)

I have caved in and called a mobile repair service on my AC. They will hopefully be here tomorrow early afternoon before I go into work. I looked up what to do if it's the problem Anita and others have described and I even went up on my roof and crawled around. I'm not comfortable up there so while it sounds like something I could do and would have attempted a few years ago, I decided I'm going to pay instead.

Looking at the weather it will be back in the upper 90's starting this coming weekend. But it was and is gorgeous this morning with only a high of mid 80's today.

Judy, I'm so glad you're enjoying your genealogy research up there. Sue, I'm with you wishing for the best for everyone near fires, hurricanes, etc.

I have to remember Ty understands almost everything I say to him. He let me sleep in yesterday and today but after our walk this morning I mentioned I'd be working this afternoon and he's pouting now. It is cute, though.

Having owned and loved dogs for most of my adult life, it continues to surprise and amaze me that the general populace so under-estimates the intelligence of dogs.

Beth, your statement that Ty understands what you say is no surprise at all to me (nor to you, or I'll wager, nor to all of the other dog-loving ladies here on your forum).

My sweet Joe boy is obsessed with his Kong toy. When I mention it, I don't call it a Kong, but rather as his "ball". Joe knows exactly what this means. I can even say to him, maybe when he is sleeping beside me on the couch, to "Go get your ball", and he will immediately jump down and run into the kitchen or the bedroom or wherever he has left it, get it, and bring it back to me.

One time at a new vet's office she was asking me what kind of toys he liked as kind of a get-acquainted question. Joe was just sitting at my feet, looking bored and maybe a bit anxious (as dogs will do during a vet appointment).

I looked at her, made a split-second decision, and replied that Joe really liked
his b-a-l-l. I spelled the word out, I didn't say it.

The vet stared at me, looking a bit confused, and then said, loudly: "Oh! You mean his BALL!!!".

LOL.

At the word "ball" Joe, who had been sitting there listless and low-energy, sprang instantly to life, surged to his feet, jumped up into the air, his head swiveling, looking for his "ball", totally ready to get with the program.

The vet was shocked.

"He knows the word ball!", she exclaimed, a look of total and utter disbelief on her face (this from a veterinarian, who I think should have known better - this second mention of his favorite toy really got Joe going).

After I got Joe calmed down again, I muttered something to the effect that "He knows a lot of other words besides 'ball'". She looked doubtful, despite what she had just witnessed.

Ps. I decided not to go with this veterinarian.

Velda, I'm so sorry and how very frustrating for you! Karen, I sympathize with your smoke situation! Not sure it has ever been that bad here - was almost at 300 while I was out of town. We have a thick smoke haze and temp headed to 90s - hopefully, the last day this hot. Beth, I hope we didn't lead you astray about the a/c! I definitely know dogs understand what we say!

After a weekend of TV sports, I am ready to tackle some cleaning and laundry today. I have an audiology appointment Wednesday. Then we'll see what happens as brother is in ER for re-evaluation right now due to the nausea. They've started IV so that's a good beginning.

Watching the hurricane and fire maps!

Yesterday it was 109 here and 110 in Lafayette. That's the highest temperature ever in Lafayette since they started keeping records. The heat seems to drain any energy I have. Today it's overcast and 92. The humidity must be high because we are under a heat advisory. There are scattered showers around so hope one comes here.

My sister called last night to tell me there was a fire at a campground about 5 miles North of where we go. I see on facebook that it's contained but 9 houses/camps burned. The fire burned right up to a lot of buildings but they managed to save them.

My dog definitely understands the word move because she is under foot if I'm in the kitchen.

I don't think Louisiana will get any of the hurricane. It looks like it's headed for Liz and Birdie.

It is a beautiful day here with temps in the upper 70's low 80's but the heat is coming back next week. I hope they are wrong. Martha I'm so sorry your temperatures are still so high.
I agree dogs know more than a lot of people realize. Anne I would have gone to another vet too sounds as though the one that was surprised at Joe knowing what ball spelled didn't know much about dogs.
Beth sounds like Ty clearly understands what you say. I have to be careful what I say on the phone my little ones pick up if someone is coming over and wait barking off an on at the door. till they arrive. I was in CA one time and my Standard Poodle had always gone with me when I traveled but that time I left him home. DH said he slept by the door for 3 days and finally would go sleep with him at night. The day I was coming home though he went back to the door and waited till I got home. Mitzi one of the Havanese would always be at the door if i thought about going for a walk, even if she was in the back bedroom when I decided to go. I have a video of her doing that. And to think I spent the first 24 years of my life terrified of dogs.

Anne, my Abby is like your Joe when it comes to understanding what I say to her. Not long ago when I was getting ready to take Abby and Bindi for a walk, I said something I’d never said to Abby before. Normally Bindi stays in her bed as long as possible and I said, “Abby, go get Bindi.” Abby ran over to Bindi’s bed and pounced next to her and licked her face to make her get up. It was so cute. Now it’s a regular routine we go through every morning before our walk. And like Joe, there’s so much more she understands. Dogs are so smart.

Cheryl saw buffalo both at the ranch off in the distance and north of Triangle X ranch... a road jam couldn't see whatever it was people was trying to see but the location could have been moose or bear but we didn't see them
even found a waterlily pond
we totally enjoyed being at the ranch mom went and they even had a photographer from the park can't think of the term but she was with us taking pictures of mom looking at stuff got to even drive down to our old house into the yard so that they could get pictures from what I understand they (the park) will be putting in a parking area as well as a biffy they said it would be a flushable but will believe that when I see it and that our house is scheduled to be repaired next they also plan on going into grandma's and grandpa's house and refurbish in their ... I guess the goal is to bring the area back to "life" show what a community was like in that time period hmm they said that they would like some more volunteers
it was really nice of the "rangers" a very nice day and I even saw a bluebird that made the day we had taken a neighbor with us she came to help me but I also think it helped her her husband in in a wheelchair and still in the state of mind where he dwells on his disability so she doesn't get out the often so we headed north I had seen a white area on Shadow Mt still don't know what it is so will have to ask someone who may know then up over the damn and stopped at Signal Mt for a plate of nacho's it's a half order and the three of us ate or fill and left lots... ate way too much between the Nacho's and the brownie sundae yep way too much

Most animals are smarter than we give them credit for. Cats are smart too but are too independent and stubborn to show it most of the time. Both my cats know certain words and phrases. Romeow will run to the fish tank when I say "lets go feed the fish". They both know "come here" but don't always respond even tho I know they understand. Even my ferrets were really smart.

I spent the morning trying to get my phone re-activated. For some reason they didn't do the auto-renewal for it this weekend which I am signed up for and have been for a long time. So they de-activated my phone because I didn't pay my bill . I didn't realize it until I went to call about scheduling the MRI for my back. The call wouldn't go thru and I got a message that my phone wasn't connected. Took about an hour and a half to get that resolved. Then finally called got an appointment for an open MRI a week from Thursday.

Dave stopped by to find out why my phone wasn't working since he tried to call and text me this morning. He is going to put in my microwave tomorrow.

Went to work at 1pm til 6. My sciatica was really acting up after each haircut. It helped to sit down between each cut for about 5 minutes with my left foot elevated a bit. I don't think the manager really understands how painful this is for me. She doesn't understand why I have to take little breaks like that. Luckily, we weren't really busy. I don't work now until Thursday.

Stopped after work for a pizza at Little Caesars. Ate 3/4 of it for dinner! Usually a slice or two is enough at a time.

It was about 115* today and tomorrow we are supposed to hit 120* which will break a record! After that we will cool down a little bit towards the weekend. We have about 5 or 6 weeks left before it starts to stay under 100* every day.

I got a text message today from someone asking about my house. I told them to contact my agent and thanked them for inquiring about it. I don't know who it was but am thinking it was someone in the park here or knows someone in the park, since I don't have my phone number on any of the ads or listings. They can get my number from the our parks directory if they have a contact here. Hoping to hear something from my agent.

It is early for my bedtime but I am really tired tonight. Just after 10pm now and I don't usually get to bed until 1 or 2 in the morning.
