Sunday Morn

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday Morn

Postby Bethers » Sun Aug 20, 2023 10:10 am

I've been productive this morning. The humidity with the heat requires more difference with my fridge and AC, so checked the filter on the AC and the drip tray on the fridge as well as vacuumed, etc. I felt like I was breathing water walking Ty this morning. But there was a little breeze that helped some. While it's only 82 out the feels like is mid 90's and both will continue up. But I admit I'll take this to what is happening on the west coast. Everyone, please stay safe!

Kind of a lull in the storm right now. Still waiting for the big rains to come. I just went outside with my ladder and some weather-proof tape and taped the heck out of the top of my bedroom window. Hopefully that will keep the rain out until I can get it fixed later.

Have had a few of the stray cats wandering into the porch for food. At least now they know where they can go for safety when the flooding starts.

I have my phone and lap top fully charged in case the power goes out. I am ready!

Sounds like British Columbia is having a terrible time with the horrendous fires up there! Now Washington has some bad fires that just started. Now, if we could just funnel this rain straight up there to do some good!

More (((hugs))) to Lyn and Anita and their families as they deal with their loved one's health struggles.

I should take a quick nap before everything starts up here. I am already stressed out from anxiety and it will get worse once the rain starts up. I also woke up with a sore throat so I took some ZiCam. Can't afford to get sick now!

Take care and have a good day!

Wind picking up a little bit…rain continuous but not heavy. They moved several large ships out of the harbor yesterday. Couple of aircraft carriers. Sitting here watching.

Warm and humid here too, but fortunately it’s just for today. Week is going to be a tiller coaster of 70’s and one Dsy of mid 80’s. Showers acouple morning. All those corn stalks in the corn belt states are busy putting out moisture, so you folks get some pretty high humidity.

Barbie, hope the weather tape works. You can only do so much to prepare. You sound like you have done as much as you can. I wouldn’t turn off the Weather Channel in case some alerts come on. Maybe just turn the volume down some. But right now that is your lifeline to that storm and what is going on. Need to be aware.Beth, Stay cool.

Just found out that my one cousin’s son is planning a family reunion for next month. We have a Michigan Fireman’s Memorial about a half hour away from here that is dedicated to all firefighters, fallen, retired, active etc and every year they have a special Festival Day with a parade and ceremony in their honor. He thought it would be nice for all of us to come in honor of my cousin who passed away last fall and had been a career firefighter. Then we can gather for a picnic at his mom’s place about 10 miles away. It will be a good chance for us to gather, because the last time we were together was at the funeral and you can’t talk when you’re at funerals. Too many people. I have not had a chance to spend any time with my cousins for years. My one cousin is coming from Pennsylvania. Am really looking forward to that. None of us are getting any younger.

Need to run and errand. Stsy safe all of you in path of Hurricane.

Good afternoon. Not much going on here this morning except for a few housekeeping chores.
Cleaned the bathrooms, changed my bed linen put in a load of laundry....now done. It is very smoky here today but not as bad as predicted. Just had a BLT with my fresh tomatoes. Tasted so good. They are really coming on fast right now.

Have a safe trip Anita, sorry about the news, hopefully you can have a good visit with your brother. Lyn hope you dont get too much rain. Barbie is all ready to weather the storm. Just hope it isnt too bad. We just never know, despite the predictions. I call them educated guesses.

Just got back from a full day of driving around country roads and hiking through cemeteries trying to find gravestones. Lots of mosquitoes in one so probably got a few bites even with spraying myself.

Found the two sets of homesteads and took photos. Biggest problem was ditches on sides of narrow roads so no way to turn around other than driving long way around mile wide squares. Also found grave of my great-great grandfather McLellan’s grave, but the gravestone was lying down and mostly buried. I could just see “McLell” but I am sure it was him. Tried to dig it out a bit but 6” of dirt and grass on most of it, and I really did not have right tools. Am going to call county cemetery authority and see if I could pay someone to dig it out.

Keeping my eyes on California rains. Hope they get enough but not too much.

Barbie just texted me that her Internet service has gone down. She'll be on when she can and if it stays down too long she'll be back on touch with me. If you're on FB, she did post pictures before losing Internet.

I saw her pictures on FB. She had quite a bit of water in her yard, but said rain had let up, so was hoping it would go down, before more comes. Storm is heading bit inland. CA and NV are both under State of Emergency. Hope Carol and Bill are riding it out okay. Raining pretty good in Vegas. Was talking with my cousin’s wife earlier and she said her daughter is out there right now. Said it was pretty wet. Hoping some of it rolls back over northern CA and helps the firefighters.

Definitely keeping an eye on California!

Just a quick note. Brother doing great today. He was okay with my BFF coming to visit, too. We were neighbors for years. Lots of laughs and stories. 2 of his friends came and 3 wild guys - we left after bit to get dinner. Stopped back to say goodnight and he wanted us to stay. Morphine and Xanax led to sleep. If lungs don't fill too fast with fluid, he might go home Tuesday. Next chemo 3 weeks. More to the story but some hope.

Sounds like a pretty good day with your brother Anita. So glad you and his friends were able to spend such good time with him. I’ll continue to keep him and you in my prayers.

Good late evening!

Whew! What a day! So much uncertainty and anxiety! Lots and lots of downpours for most of the afternoon and evening! Then the winds came and the internet went out. Parts of my park also lost power but mine stayed on. The lake in my back yard came up pretty close to my house but the front yard and street were fine. Others here weren't so lucky. Some roads were flooded bad and some houses were surrounded by water up to the skirting around their park models. The small clubhouse down the street from me was flooded and got into the laundry room there. The drain in there is higher than the rest of the floor so it didn't do any good! Lol! Things could have been so much worse here than they were.

The rest of the valley didn't fare so well. Lots of flash flooding, road closures, evacuations, etc. Most of the roads all around my park were closed and even the I-10 freeway is now closed. Will see tomorrow how bad the damage is from the winds here since those came just before dark. We ended up with about 4 inches of rain here (average for a whole year is just 3 inches!). They were predicting up to 8 inches possible so we dodged a bullet there! The mountains got almost 10 inches and all that rain will be coming down the mountainside into the valley here so we will still be having flooding issues for several days at least, especially in Palm Springs and all the washes.

The rest of southern CA is a real mess too! Lots of flash floods, mud slides, rock slides, and debris flows in the burn areas. Then there was the 5.1 earthquake up north of Ventura! There was a small tornado east of San Diego. Just a crazy, wild day!! :o

My window fix worked for the most part altho there was a little water than came in but the towel caught it. Will see about getting that fixed later this week. Otherwise the house came thru fine. The outside kitties came and went throughout the day depending on the rains and wind. Glad they were comfortable enough to come into the porch for awhile. Will keep it open tonight too.

Things are pretty quiet now and I am exhausted!

Anita, I am glad to hear you had a good, positive day with your brother. That is encouraging!

I just posted some photos on the Hurricane Hilary thread...
