Another Cool Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Another Cool Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Aug 14, 2023 6:45 am

Good Morning. Sun is starting to peek above the trees. Temp is a chilly 48°. Supposed to be around 70 today, with possible rain showers, but majority more to our south.

Watching the news showing pictures from Maui. CA has had some very destructive fires, but I think this one might top them all. The death toll is gong to be huge. No warning, no time to escape. Like being in the Paradise Fire, only worse. And I’m sure Karen can relate to it as well. You look at all the burned out vehicles where people tried to scape and you wonder……. Goes to show how fast life can change.

Judy, thanks for the reminder that Bill and Carol have a Class C. I had forgotten They no longer had the A. And hopefully you can have an uneventful trip back through Michigan this time. Beth, glad you were able to have a “family reunion” of sorts. Karen, have fun at the coast. A

Dentist appt. For me this morning. Might leave early and go check out one of the local farms out that way, to see if they have sweet corn at the farm stand this morning. Otherwise nothing special in agenda. Probably some painting on my deer and the final detailng on the boy’s outfit.

Glad someone is cool LOL This will be our hottest day 109-111 I got up at 6 pushed the button on my coffeemaker and BAM our electricity is out AGAIN. Last time it was out for 9 hours. But came back on around 3 soon enough to cool us down. This time they said restoration at 5pm. I am living right because I made a reservation for the coast for tonight to add a day to my current regisration. Thank goodness they had availability. I cant check in until 3 but at least it will be cool and Emma and I can kick around the docks or in town or on the beach. We wont be sweltering. This is getting old. Pacific Power raises their rates but their service still stays lousy. They dont tell you why it is out just that they are investigating!

I am sitting with a fan blowing on me and all I did was go feed the cats, 48 degrees sure sounds good. We are probably headed for 102 this afternoon. I didn't do anything yesterday but mow late in the afternoon. It almost got too dark before I finished but I don't see any places I missed.

I'm waiting for my neighbor to call. She is going to bring me back after I bring the truck to the shop. The last time I used it the air conditioner wasn't cooling. My appointment isn't until Thursday but I have to go when I can get a ride.

Karen, you picked a good time to go to the coast. I'm lucky, I have the best electric company around here. It's a co-op. No one is getting million dollar bonuses with them. I think all utilities should be co-op's because they are monopolies. It's not like you can pick and choose what company you want to use. I tell people all the time, if they are buying a house, buy one in Slemco's area. I hope I don't ever have to move to Maurice because Entergy has already made me mad over there.

Beth, I saw the pictures of your roof. It looks good.

Karen, I was going the other way temperature wise to Hells Canyon - didn't look that way when I made the reservation! 107 here tomorrow. My Hells Canyon trip is on hold. I had also forgotten Carol and Bill have a Class C now. Beth, happy a few of you could get together for a reunion! Luckily, electricity hasn't been an issue with apartment living. Electrical rates are very low here - not sure I even paid $50 in the winter.

Had 2 calm days and then brother taken to hospital by ambulance yesterday. Some of his bloodwork changed drastically in just a matter of days and he has more issues. They want to send him to hospital in Seattle but are waiting for an available bed - waited about 24 hours so far - but they have stabilized him somewhat.

Sue, enjoy those cool temperatures! It was already too warm to open the slider at 6:30 this morning!

Afternoon all. We just got back from our walk and are cooling down. Not really that hot but humidity is awful today. I spent a good part of the time chasing bugs from around my head. The buzzing was so annoying. Hoping I didn’t get stung! Buddy seems to be having a good day today with his manners. Of course we are only part way through the day so that can change! At least we got out before the forecasted rain moves in! I hate to do it but I need to crate him since I have some running I really need to do today and it’s to hot to take him and leave him in the car. Even though these errands are quick in and out. Karen, have a good time at the beach. Sounds like your timing in perfect to get out of the heat. Anita, sending good thoughts for your brother. Well, I suppose I should get moving and get my errands taken care of. Maybe I’ll beat the rain if I get moving now. Have a good rest of your day all.

Good afternoon to all. It is just me again. I guess I need to clarify something. I learned to drive in Los Angeles and drove there for years. From home to work and back was any were from 60 to 150 miles a day. So I drove a whole lot, also took trips all over California, Arizona and Nevada those years - me driving. After I retried about 20 some years ago - with Bill retired too - if we went someplace, even market, doctor, etc he drove. I did/do still drive
when going to lunch with girl friend and when Bill was in hospital etc. And now since he can't see well enough to drive, I drive every where. And Vegas drivers are terrible. I have driven the Jeep quite a bit - here and in Mazatlan, Mexico. So no problem with that. My biggest problem with the RV is where I sit in the cab - how do I get used to the sides sticking out so far from the cab. I know probably not a big deal. Also I learned to drive using the rear view mirror more than the side mirrors. No rear view in RV. I think I will enlist our son to go parking lot driving with me. I would need duct tape if Bill went. If I do feel really uncomfortable and not capable. Well we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Yesterday the long covid kept Bill in bed the whole day again. Today he is fine. We went to breakfast, Walmart and to talk to a welder (who we know and trust) to fix the towing package on the Jeep. The guy who fixed it in Arizona after it came apart in Mexico - screwed it up and it HAS to be fixed right. I had to drive the jeep out of Mexico to Tucson while Bill drove the RV. And the mechanic shop who welded it back to the jeep is the place where Bill got the covid. Only place he went without me.Then days I caught it from Bill. By the time it was fixed in Arizona Bill was so sick he didn't really check it out. Also he did not pay attention when hooking the Jeep up to be towed home when our son picked us up. We now have to have it redone and have to buy new tires. UGH
I am still playing with the dotz pictures, so much fun. And finishing cleaning my blinds and ceiling fans. Our weather has really improved, highs of 103 or less, next weekend we will have a high 80 day, but with rain, I hope.
Hope every one is having a very good day.

Karen, I wouldn’t be surprised if the outages are due to the extreme hest. Everybody’s got AC going, thrn the coffe makers andd who knows what else I. The mornings, then businesses open and throw on the lights. Could be power grid can’t handle the overload. Or could be a piece of faulty equipment they can’t track down. Might be tine to look into a generator. That’s one thing that my installer said, when he put in my generator. With the climates changing, he said power outages are going to become more common.

Karen, you are smart for heading to the coast. Your posting reminded me of almost exactly one year ago when I was visiting my son in Napa for the Labor Day weekend. It was 107 on Sunday, and I spent the entire day at my son's house. When he brought me back to my motorhome in the evening, I discovered that the AC was not working, so I packed up a few things and spent the night at his house. I had trouble sleeping worrying about everything getting baked in the RV the next day when it was expected to be 108 degrees, so very early in the morning I told my son that since I would be headed for the coast on Tuesday, I might as well leave a day early. So, without waking anyone up, he took me back to the EXPO fairgrounds, and I headed west before it got hotter. It was only a couple of hours but it felt WONDERFUL to be out of the heat!!

The nice thing about the coast is that because of the winds off the Pacific, you can always count on it being 65 to maybe 70 right along the ocean. I spent the next couple of days in Eureka, and the air even smelled fantastic! Had a mobile technician look at the AC and give me the make, model, and serial number so I could order a new one since it was shot. It took a ton of phone calls over the next couple of weeks to find one in stock, but I stuck to the coast and was comfortable.

I went with my grandson and the exchange student to downtown Cleveland and we walked out to the Coast Guard station on the shore. Then i took them out for lunch. I did not sleep much last night and my system was a bit upset, so I did not eat much. Got home, had a snack, and am now ready for a nap. Tomorrow is a last load of laundry and some cleaning, so I can head to Ontario on Wednesday morning.

This will be short. I try to read every few days. I've been having either a back issue or flare of Long Covid Neuropathy. Have gone from numb left foot walking then right leg pain when I lay down to sometimes both at same time. Chiropractor not sure of cause but working on it. It, combined with my scoliosis is causing Me to lean forward and to right which has set my mid back off. Not navigating too well and adjustment left me sore and inflamed as always only more widespread. Combine that with ongoing issues with BP meds and sleep issues, and I'm not in much mood to chat. I wish you all well. Take care.

Anita, I'm so sorry your brother took this turn. I'll keep him in my thoughts for a quick recovery and return home. Karen, so glad you got the extra night on the coast. Enjoy. Velda, yikes, hand in there! Carol, it will all work out. Just remember you are in control of how it works out.

I never liked the last pair of progressive glasses I got and rarely used them, except on the computer last summer and now same here. I don't think the prescription was right because I'd never had trouble with them before. The last few months I've had problems with my distance only glasses and yesterday it seemed that I wasn't reading street signs as well. So I got to an optometrist today and yes, my cataracts have gotten worse. But, so had my sight. This optometrist thinks I'd be better off holding off longer on cataract surgery and get new glasses. Even on sale they were more than I wanted to spend there and he had no problem with me getting them online. I never had a problem with any I got from Zenni, so just ordered a pair and paid for express shipping. I doubt I'll have them before the end of the week, but it's possible. Fingers crossed I like them.

I spent almost 4 hours with Linda before my appt. My 3rd meal out in a week. Yikes lol but we gabbed the whole time.

Good evening gals!

Dave's friend was supposed to come by at 2pm to put in my new microwave. He is not very dependable tho. He showed up 2 weeks late to fix my burned outlet a couple months ago. Then he was supposed to stop by several days ago but never showed up. So today I wasn't expecting much. He was a no-show again. I texted him to see if he was coming but never heard back from him. I guess I need to call the guy who looked at my dishwasher and see if he can do it. One thing I just can't tolerate is someone who is always late or worse, never shows up and doesn't call.

I am thinking about driving up to Idyllwild in the mountains for the day tomorrow. Just need to get away and be in cooler temps, in a pretty, woodsy environment. :D Only a 1 1/2 hr drive up there. I need a little mini vacation before starting back to work.

We are in for a cool-down at the end of the week. Only 91* by Sunday! Mid 70's for lows! Yay! That won't last long but will be a nice reprieve for a few days.

Anita, so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he can pull out of this new situation and get feeling better.

Karen, make sure to check the food in your fridge and freezer to be sure it is still good when you get back home. I read about a good test to see if your freezer has thawed by putting a cup of frozen water in the freezer with a coin on top. Then when you check it after a power outage, you can see if the coin is still on top of the ice or has dropped down some when the ice melted during the outage. You can tell how much it thawed by how far the coin has moved down towards the bottom of the cup.

Carol, There will be a learning curve for getting used to the wider sides on the RV. I had to watch that with my travel trailer and will have to learn that too for my future RV. The narrow lanes in construction zones always made me nervous! I figured I would take out all the orange cones! :o Does your RV have a back-up camera? If not, that might be a good thing to add so you can see what is going on behind you since you won't have a rear view mirror. You can watch the screen instead.

My next door neighbor's daughter finally got her priorities straight and got Gloria a Life Alert to wear. I told her I would help her get it set up so will head over there shortly and see what I can do.

The Maui fire is so devastating! Almost 100 confirmed dead and 1000 more missing. So many questions about lack of a warning system to get people evacuated in time.

Sophie is laying here with me and is being so adorable! She is a good kitty! Romeow has been sleeping next to me at night. They are so funny! They will go up and touch noses, then start grooming each other, and then attack each other, and then race all over the house chasing each other! So entertaining! :D When I am on the road I plan to get a large soft-sided crate to keep them in while driving. They both like to hide in small, dark spaces (bedroom closet) and feel more secure like that, so a crate should be good and comfortable for them. Will find a secure place for it, maybe under the dinette table.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Carol, Rule #! never let your husband teach you to drive anything!!!!!! Sharon crating a dog is a good thing. Your dog needs to know it is not a punishment but a safe place. You are not crating him for long lengths of time. My other dog slept in her crate, with the door open, so that was good. Emma doesnt go in the crate unless I have to do something I dont want her to get into, ya know like painting LOL She was ALWAYS in her crate in the motorhome when traveling. Anita so sorry to hear your brother is having problems hopefully they can get him sorted out and he can get back home soon. Seattle has very good hospitals tho. Sue our outages are to prevent wildfires. Since Pacific Power got sued for several of the Oregon fires they are doing this on purpose This is what they say:

Due to increased wildfire risk, some electrical equipment has been placed on more sensitive settings. Customers may experience more frequent outages.

Barbie, the electricity came on about 3 hours later. My neighbor gave me coffee, he had a portable generator. Came back on while I was over there.
So far it has stayed on according to my phone. The last time was off for 9 hours and everything was fine. I get alerts on my phone usually from the power company and/or spectrum. I am safe but thanks for the tip. Velda so sorry you are having these issues with no real resolve. Very frustrating I know.

Left home it was 100° Got to Coos Bay and it was 76 with a gentle breeze. When I go home on Friday it will be 92 then heading down to the 80's yup I dodged a heat bullet.

watched a pod caste to go along with the scriptures we are studying a long one at that so while listening I put several rows on the child's hat, I think in the pattern it's even pink which is the color I got out of the bin... not the time I got the bruises though...
Beth glad that you got to visit with family and with Linda have your thought about going to the fair? think its on through the week or maybe it starts this week not sure what sil said now
Anita so sorry for the not good turn your brother took... hopefully they will get him a room soon... and hope they get the second opinion on him...
Velda so sorry you are going through some rough times... hope you get some of the tests soon so you can have a better idea of what is going on...
Judy be safe and enjoy you time in Canada
Carol thanks for enlightening us... I know some people expressed surprise after Larry died that I actually drove... well yes I can and I do I'll even drive that pass that I hate to drive as I told my kids I can drive it I just don't like to so they did pick me up often expressly when I would be coming home at night
Karen have fun on the coast trip you did dodge the heat bullet... enjoy your time away... it's it neat how one can keep track of stuff at home just by looking at your watch??
I think Sue probably had the best temps I didn't look to see what ours was just that it was hot probably in the 80's
Shadow used to go to his crate just cause it was rarely closed unless someone was there that he didn't get a long with then it was closed for some reason he really didn't like my son in law... one day we were walking and sil stopped to talk to me and Shadow just went off barking ect and I pulled him back told him to be quite as ....was packing (he is a deputy sheriff and was on duty.nnhe would never have used it on him) but its nice to have a good spot for our pets to be in..
got to the store and watermelon was still on sale not as good but hey 2.99 I'll take it ... hopefully that salad will turn out good... the English cucumber's were so long not seen them that long so think it will only need half of it ...
I had planned on going on my trip the last two weeks of the month but decided to wait till after my brother and his family get back from SLC... so sometime after Labor Day Weekend
you all have a great day
