Good morning, Shirl, and all who follow. Shirl, it is always nice to see you on here. A good way to start my morning.

Going to be a toasty day today - 91° is currently predicted, I'm betting 95° or above. Summer has arrived. Already went out to turn on the water for 45 minutes on my drip system to give my garden plants a good drink before it gets really hot this afternoon.

6:30 a.m. just now, short night - finally fell asleep about 2:00, was awake about 5:30, finally gave up and just got up. May take a nap today. I am always interested to hear about others who have the dreaded sleeping issues, makes me feel not so quite alone.

Well, off for my second cup of Joe.

Bought some plastic shelves at Home Depot yesterday, will put them together this morning. My "hobby room" is a total shambles, to the point I don't even like to go in there to work on my projects. Not a good thing! Also ordered a roll-around plastic cart with multiple small drawers to put jewelry "bits" in. Hopefully I can be self disciplined enough to put my stuff in the drawers, rather than have it scattered everywhere (where I mostly can't find what I want).

There have been a few moderate earthquakes up at Lake Almanor, not too far from Lassen volcano. There is some speculation in the local media that the quakes might trigger an eruption. While not likely, it is possible. Lassen Peak is considered to be an active volcano, it last erupted about a hundred years ago - just a blink in geologic time.

I am about 50 miles south of Lassen Peak; should it go off it is possible that I could get some ashfall. Volcanic ash is not like wood ash (or wildfire ash). Volcanic ash is made up of pulverized rock, and, as such, can be very heavy and quite destructive.

Oh well! As I said, not likely to happen.

Good Morning, I think it's going to be too warm for my liking today because of high humidity but there are showers predicted for this afternoon. Too bad for all who have outdoor plans. I'm bored already so should think of something productive to do or else my book will win over good intentions.

Cheryl I'm enjoying your photos and regretting the times I passed near or close to that area and didn't stop and explore. I think it was because I was always in a hurry to get to the ocean and breathe that wonderful air!!

Cloudy and 62° here. Heading In to a more normal temperature pattern this week. Highs in 60’s. To get ght is supposed to be in 30’s, possible frost. Those who have planted their plants are going nooooo. Those of us who are wise to our weather here and know better than to plant before Memorial Day, are telling them that you don’t plant this time of year. I think that a lot of them are people who have recently moved up here from downstate, and don’t realize that the climate here is not the same as it is down there.

Not sure what I am getting into today. Kind of in the mood to take a ride because it’s getting so pretty with everything blossoming and blooming. I did get the grass mowed, flower bed is ready to plant later at the sub entrance , and the easement pathway cleaned off again. So the POA stuff is taken care of. Will mow my grass this week. Decided to line the edge of the gravel beds along front of house with the edging blocks I took out around the flowerbed at the flagpole. So think I might do that since the sun is under the clouds and save the ride for tomorrow, since it’s already after noon and the restaurants will be busy with Mothers Day.

It's already 90 today. There are some clouds around that look like they could rain a little and It's still windy.

One of the things my ex-daughter-in-law sent in the package was a container of Turmeric Pearl Couscous. Has any one ever tried that, I had never seen it. It's pasta that is the size of BB's. I cooked some and it has no taste to me. I looked online for recipes and didn't see anything that looked good. She is from Turkey so maybe that's something they eat. The local grocery store had a case full of small pork tenderloins with BBQ seasoning. I cooked a small one for lunch but It's too dry. I'm glad I didn't get a big one.

I might go fishing latter if the cows go in the pasture away from the ponds.

Sheila, I love cabbage and, sorry Anne, prefer it over lettuce. Combining them works, too.

Cheryl, I've been meaning to tell you I switched back to my phone step counter and it's so much better, for me. More accurate, too. It's funny that when working I'll realize many times, oops, phone is on my desk, but I'm still getting more steps than the watch types were reporting.

Happy Mother's day to all. I know all of us are mothers of some type, and I consider moms to dogs, cats, etc as counting.

I think I'll do a Walmart pickup one of my days off this week. It's about 1 1/2 hours away but should be a nice drive and there's some staples I need that will make up on price for the distance/gas. So I'll be putting things in my cart tonight and picking a day to go, Tuesday or Wednesday. Laundry done today and lots of time in the garden, taking pictures.

Had a really nice day with Laura yesterday. We just sat around chatting, bbq'd dinner. We did a couple errands and stopped at In n Ourt for a burger for lunch. She headed home today and made it safely. Today my painters were here bright and early. They worked until about 2 when it just got too hot 96°. So they quit for the day and the house is totally painted, all the deck railings are done. Half the storage shed and a few touch up spots left to be painted. Then I will go get my stain for the deck and start on that as I want to put out my patio chairs and rug.

Having some mushroom ravioli with a parmesan sauce and small salad for dinner. I havent had that for quite a while.

Got a good night's sleep and slept in until 11 am, so I feel lots better. Did not do much today, but did make some bread and organized some stuff. Had long calls from both of my sons. My youngest son in Ohio, poor thing, has worked from home for the past 17 years, and now has a new job WHERE HE ACTUALLY HAS TO GO INTO AN OFFICE EVERY DAY!!! Needless to say, he is having difficulty adjusting. His new title is Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, and I told him that was another job title where he did not have to do much work, and he actually agreed with me! He will miss his fancy and very expensive coffee machine! Plus, he will have to deal with other human beings in the office, poor thing. He said he was getting bored with the old job, and this one is closer to his degree anyways. (The company is a reseller of industrial fasteners--sounds exciting, right?) He will also miss taking his lunch-hour jog with the dog, and being able to hold teleconferences when he drives somewhere in his car.

Yesterday, one of my two small electric heaters died, so I need to pick up another tomorrow at Walmart's I see you all talking about how warm it is, but I was at 6,000' and am now at 7,200' and heading for more than two weeks at 9,200' so I am going to need a second heater!

I tried to find a campground near Leadville, CO, but there is nothing other than one crummy looking one and several at the nearby lake. However, they are all Forest Service campgrounds and do not open until next Friday or Monday, which is not when i need them. So, I think I will end up spending four nights at a commercial campground in Salida. Reservation for Heaton Bay COE on Dillon Lake is not until this coming Friday. And the other campgrounds around Dillon Lake are also closed for winter. Hope that does not mean there will be snow there, but that area is beautiful and I know there will be some gorgeous snow-capped mountains in the distance. I have an electric and water site at Heaton Bay, so am looking forward to being there again.

A cookout sounds good! My friends Debbie and Dave are having their annual Memorial Day BBQ on the 28th. That is always fun!

Ann, I was wondering if you gals felt those earthquakes up that way. I hope the volcano doesn't blow!

Not much happening today. Just watching videos on YouTube including church. Was 100* so I have had the AC on all day at about 80* which feels comfortable to me.

There was a terrible tragic accident on the I-10 early this morning a little ways north of me. 2 kids and a woman were killed and 5 other kids were severely injured. They haven't said yet how it happened but the east bound lanes coming from LA were all closed for 8 hours which is the main freeway west to east all the way to Phoenix from Los Angeles, so it was a huge backup all day along there. Such a sad situation... Update: 2 young girls and mom were killed in the accident and 4 other young kids were severely injured. They were all ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over, so obviously none were wearing seat belts.

On a lighter note, I posted a photo of my mom on FB for Mother's Day of her in a grass skirt. She was about 18 and her boyfriend was in the Phillipines during the war sent it to her. So she was posing in it for the photo. I love this photo but she has always hated it (maybe because he never made it back from the war ).


Another positive note, I checked my daughter's FB page (I can only see the main page of it since I am not friends on her account), and saw that she graduated last week from college in Wisconsin and is going to go to the UofM College of Veterinary Medicine! I am so thrilled for her! I always hoped she would decide to do that. She loves animals! I am so happy for her! I am glad I have a way to somewhat find out what is going on in her life.

Hoping to hear about that job this week. I have applied for several other jobs over the past few weeks but never heard anything back on those, including the library job.

Barbie, I suggest phone calls to follow up on any jobs you apply for a day or two later. I know when I was hiring, I always appreciated those and usually the person I hired came from that group.

my second born and her husband came over for supper knew it would be early cause he had to be to work at 7 PM came over with a new kitchen faucet and installed that I made meat sauce and put several meatballs in it turned out really good I think I will have to make them again yes it's easier to buy them but these really tasted better... I will perhaps make them a bit larger though...
I really liked the lemon tiramisu but it also needs some adjustment not sure if it was the pan I used or what but it really wasn't as fluffy as expected nor made as much...
they also brought over a according to google a Brazilian Jasmine really a pretty plant need to find out if it's a perennial or annual it's blooming almost reminded me of a .... nicotiana had to look up tobacco plant to find it's spelling

We had a busy day. It was my son (who lives with me) 43rd birthday, so we took each other to breakfast- he took me for Mothes Day, I took him for birthday! Ha ha. We ate at a tiny place, family owned since 50's or early 60's. An A frame small building, with only 10 tables and a small counter. Always good. Once home, we exchanged cards. Later in evening, we went out to the B J Brewerry for supper. Had a good time. Home for cake and Ice cream and his gifts. And, my younger son even texted me. As did granddaughter.
My new Breville toaster oven arrived earlier than expected! Look forward to air frying, dehydrating, baking, toasting and roasting.
Martha, I grew to love couscous while living in Morocco and used to buy it by 25 lb bag and cooked ot a bunch, until it was discovered wheat was cause of my health issues. I do love the stuff! It's traditionally steamed in a perforated nesting pan that fits over the larger pot where the stew is being simmered. When stew is done and couscous is tender, you turn the couscous (a type of pasta made from semolina wheat) into a large flat serving platter that has some depth to it to keep juce contained. You make a well in center and ladle the vegetables and meat and some juice into the middle. Traditionally you provide a pitcher of warm water and a basin and pour warm water over each persons hands as they wash then dry hands. Then the couscous is eaten with fingers. There is an art to (using only ones right hand as the left is considered unclean) grab a piece of vegetable or meat and mash it into some couscous, forming a ball and artfully flick it into your mouth! But, many Americans at the table opted for the provided spoon!
