May 1st - Rabbits Roll Call

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

May 1st - Rabbits Roll Call

Postby Colliemom » Mon May 01, 2023 7:04 am

Morning all. Slept till it was light out this morning as compared to yesterday’s 4:45 a.m., couldn’t go back to sleep morning. Bright eyed and bushy tailed  My energy level has really picked up this past week or so. Guess the increase in Vitamin D is finally kicking in. I had been feeling really achy as well and that’s gong away too. Martha, your son isn’t the only one getting results late. I had my blood work done in December and then was scheduled for a mammo and bone scan Got a call from hospital telling me the scan had to be cancelled due to machine breakdown. Was finally rescheduled for end of January after a new machine was installed. Didn’t get results of that or my blood work till first week of March  Hope they figure out your son’s problem. Sounds almost like drops in blood pressure.

Cloudy here, sun trying to come out. temp is 38°. Rain/snow showers in the forecast. Possible accumulations tonight. Currently snowing across western UP and WI.. Karen, I hear ya on the cloudy, rainy day thing. Same here. Getting old . I too want to get out and do some yard work. Want to make a few changes out there. Haven’t even put tbe battery back in my lawn tractor yet. I don’t care if it’s cool as it’s good working weather. Just need a bit of dry weather.

Anita, thanks for the wave. Unfortunately I didn’t see you go by  I wonder if one could follow the 45th across the country. At one time you could follow it across Michigan by following roads and trails, but I don’t know if you still can. There used to be a guide to follow along with, that would point out highlights along the route. It’s known as the Polar/Equator trail.

Bed change today, run vac and then back to craft painting.

I will officially check in later but I wanted to ask if any of you live in areas where the medical systems have "My Charts" Here in the greater CIncinnati. over the years, I have either been provided service from hospitals or medical practices associated with three of the major providers: Tri Health, Mercy, Christ Hospital. The last 5 years or so have mostly been Tri Health. My switch to a private medical practice not associated with any of the hospitals now has me signed up for their portal also. I get results of tests within 24 hours and often are looking at the numbers and brief write ups before the physician that ordered the tests probably have had time to sit down and read them much less call me to discuss. I will say that though I had immediate tests results, my current physician is the one that calls to go over the results with me whether or not there were anything in the results that really needed explanation. Then again that is why I paid extra to join her practice. She also returns phone calls the same day....

Morning All, 56°very windy but sunny. Had a storm but wasn’t fierce. I said rabbits. When it warms up I will stroll through the garden. Lol. I also have My Char with local hospital and also My Profile with my doctor. I’m fortunate that he answers email within one hour. I hated setting up and needing more passwords but like the results. Same old here, laundry, empty trash, etc. Be safe

Good morning. Well I need to change "Rabbits" to "Emma". She distracts me and I forget and chat with her. She is so darn cute in the mornings so how can I resist. Oh well there is always next month. Got up to cloudy skies but 50° so not complaining. We will see if it rains or not today. I have a doc appt tomorrow just to follow up. I am also enrolled in MyChart and get to see my results quickly. Her assistant always calls me to give me the results the next day. So does my Pulmonologist. I like that. If there was anything abnormal then the docs call me themselves. I am good with that. Since my Rheumatologist is in Ashland he is on a differenct computer program so I have to log into his portal. He calls me himself tho no matter what the results indicate. Same with the hospital where I get my CT scans. But I can look at everything not just labs, xrays, imaging. I see what is written about our visit. Prescriptions and plan of care. I was a little suspect of the health providers here as when I was sick it took me 3 months to get an appt and after that another 4 months to see the pulmonologist. But now that I am established I can call or message and get an instant reply so happy with that. We absolutely need to be proactive and involved in our own care. And if you are not happy with your providers keep looking. There are good and bad out there and even if they are good but you dont click with them move on. Tina said it very well.

Not sure what I will do first today but know I need a few groceries, need to stop at the bottle drop and get my bottle refunds. I used to just give them away but now since they raised it to 0.10 cents a bottle I take them back LOL Will do the load of laundry this afternoon. Leftovers for dinner today.

Mornin' ladies~~~
Just a quick check-in. Getting ready to hitch up and get out of Dodge (Apache Junction). Some winds expected today heading towards Kingman, but hopefully I'll beat the bigger gusts.

Have a great day ladies. Happy May!

Karen, I wish we'd go back to using bottles with the deposit again most places. I remember that well from childhood. It worked. And when people tossed them, others would go picking them up.

I said rabbits at midnight. Good for this month. I'm a slug so far today. Oh well. Cloudy and not what I was hoping for to do the scenic drive planned. I'm rescheduling that for, hopefully, Wednesday. I'll remain a slug lol.

My doctor and the hospital use the same portal for info. I just went in and noticed my dexa scan from November isn't on it. I'll let them know. It's not a biggie because I got the printed results. But I do like having everything there. My dermatologist uses a different program, but again, all online same day.

You beat me Cheryl. Have a wonderful trip!!!!

Time to at least get a bit of a walk in. Even slugs need to move.

Hello Everybody. I’m checking in from Hartford and it’s already afternoon. I went aerobics this morning. Yay!
Tina, my medical team uses My Chart as well, and once I got used to logging in, it worked fine. I too get test results, but they don’t mean much until my doctor explains what they mean.
It’s good to be home and catching up with friends. Enjoy your day. Peggy

Checking in to say “hello” to everyone. Cold and rainy here today. Very interesting discussion yesterday on health care. I read a very interesting study coming from Germany on “druga”. Of the 216 new drugs from 2011-2017 only 54 were major or considerable benefit. 37 were minor less or on-quantifiable benefit. There was no proof of added benefit for 125 of the drugs here in the United States.
The US does not have a mechanism of evaluatiing new products, doctors don’t know which product out of every four is worth prescribing. Gives one something to think about.
For back pain, Barbie, find a beginner’s Yoga class.. Don’t go in blindly to “any” class.
That’s my 2 cents for today. Lyn

Saturday it was 92° here and today, so far (almost noon), it's 56°and woke to wet decks and walks. Was asleep before midnight and forgot to say rabbits, so, like Karen, I'll be changing my phrase to, I love you Stormy, as she is fond of sitting on my torso at 02 and hollering until I reach a hand out from under covers and pet her and tell her I love her! Time to Body Groove dance!

Tina to answer your question about medical sites and such. We do not have any of those three health sites that you mentioned. In this part of Michigan it’s mostly small local small hospitals or clinics that are affiliated with Munson Medical Center in Traverse city or McLaren in Petoskey. Most of the local hospitals, here, wind up, sending their patients to one or the other, depending upon who they are affiliated with, due to not having specialists in certain fields or equipment for certain procedures. Mercy used to have a couple hospitals, but they sold out to Munson. Being rural in nature, a lot of small communities do not even have medical centers and have to drive to other areas for medical care. Our a local hospital here was doing really well until they became affiliated with Munson, then things started gong downhill of late. A number of doctors have left. I did hear that my NP had moved out of the hospital to another clinic outside of town but when my information came regarding my tests, the address was still at the hospital medical building, so I don’t know what’s going on there. I can see where the living like whereare you do, in a larger population area, more specialists and stuff would be available. It pretty much is the same in all large areas. Sometimes depending on treatment needed, People will go to the University of Michigan or sometimes have to go to Grand Rapids or even the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Fortunately, we have gained in areas like, better cancer treatment, infusion centers, and things here. So that has cut a lot of travel out for people that need that. So that’s what it’s kind of like up in this neck of the woods. Course there are the usual eye specialists, and things like that that are independent operators here. Money is always the bottom line anymore. The hospitals are out for profit.

On Ecit: I was able to reestablish my access to my Patient Portal so I can access health records.

Good afternoon ladies!

Like Sue, I was up early this morning. I woke at midnight but didn't get up until 3:30 I had an appointment with my cardiologist today and I'm positive that was the reason for starting my day early. As soon as I got on my laptop and saw yesterday's post about the last day of April, I yelled Rabbits! Thank you, Sue.

Yesterday, we woke up to a tornado watch which lasted until 2:00 yesterday afternoon. It was very windy all day and it still is but it's warm, right now it's 82 and sunny. One of my potted plants in a very large terra cotta pot blew over and broke so need to hopefully find a replacement. Since the pot is heavy, I need to find that to help stabilize my plant. We are having more patio work done but they are out of pavers, so until the next truckload comes in, work is at a stand still. Because of cha-ching, cha-ching, that's okay.

I also have MyChart, and if some of you did not know, that program can connect to other hospitals that you have visited that have records for you. For example, when I was getting CLL treatment in Eugene, OR, I had two kidney stone procedures at Peace Health. There is a place to the lower right of the home page where you can click on linked health and view any tests or procedure you had there. Unfortunately, my oncologist belongs to a smaller group that has their own system, so he cannot see my recent blood tests, nor can others see blood work I had done there.

Michigan had 10 cent bottle returns way back to 1978, so I always rinsed bottles out and returned them. I am very frustrated, however, at how many states have absolutely NO recycling of plastic bottles in their campsites. If I ask, sometimes a dump somewhere is suggested that might have some recycling during limited hours! They say recycling is too expensive!! If there is no recycling, I put my bottles in old grocery bags and store them in my "basement" until I find a place to recycle them! I was really happy to find good recycling at Zion. It would really help if there were deposits on the bottles of water that people bring into campgrounds by the multiple case!!! I drink the water in my tank, and keep it clean by shocking it every few months. Been doing that for 11 years and have never gotten sick or had bad water in my tanks because I have two filters--one on the hose and one "whole house' filter.

Also, when I was a student at Michigan State for my final degree, they had a neat system for recycling the bottles people brought into class. Nearly all classrooms had whiteboards or blackboards at the front of the room, and these had a tray at the bottom. So during a break or after class, if you had brought a bottle with you, you would put it on the tray near the door, and homeless people would make the rounds several times a day picking them up. They would quietly open the door, grab bottles, and leave. No one minded, even the instructor.

I've been packing up a small "go" bag, and am going to start another threat in the General Area about what I should put in but have missed.

I talked to Sugar right after midnight and forgot Rabbits.

I went to Walmart and they had a 5 inch coconut cake. That aught to cure me of wanting a coconut cake for a while. It's a little on the dry side.

The hospital my son has gone to has a portal but some of the doctors he was referred to don't use it.

This morning I was standing on the carport and I saw Frosty coming from across the road with something in his mouth. It was a mouse and I don't think it was dead. I told him not to let it go. I guess he thought I was ungrateful so he left with it. I was hoping he wouldn't leave it in the yard so Sugar could find it.

I need to call for an appointment to get my hair cut in the morning. I have been cutting on it some and it's getting wild again.

Hello, Tina.

I read your post this morning, but didn't have time to respond until now.

I do have an online "portal" with my health care provider, who shall remain nameless here.

This organization has a bit of a monopoly in my area, as well as in much of Northern California.

I usually get my test results via my online portal in about 48 hours, and then I can generally decipher them using Dr. Google. My physician never phones - if I want an actual explanation of the actual results from my actual doctor, I need to schedule another $400.00 10-minute appointment with him. Yes, I have insurance - but this is the amount my insurance is billed.

My physician never returns telephone calls. Not ever. The only way I can "contact" him (for lack of a better term) is sending a message through my online health portal. After the message is sent, the response time is 24 - 48 hours. The response, when it comes, is (obviously) written by some kind of assistant who does not possess the most basic of spelling and grammar skills.

Without the very most basic spelling and grammar skills (plus seeming not bothering to read the actual question I have asked) the response is usually either illegible or confusing. Or both. I then need to message back (through the portal) for a further clarification. Which (you guessed it) takes a further 24 - 48 hours. And so on. . .

I spent well over two weeks on this messaging system back-and-forth trying to get a simple question answered; finally I phoned the "patient advocate" department. Finally (and this was the only time I have ever received a call) my doctor called me on the phone (in a bit of a huff, I might add) and I finally got my question answered.

I had written a bit more here regarding my ongoing frustrations - and absolute despair - in trying to get health care in my area, but I am deleting the rest of the post. Too personal, and much more than I wish to discuss in an open online forum. What you are reading here is the short - very short - version.

Bottom Line: I can't speak for anyone else, or what kind of health care (or lack thereof) they might have in their own area.

I felt I had good health care here in my area (had felt this way for years) - until I retired, and my primary insurer became Medicare.

That's when it all changed.
