Rabbits?

Where are all the rabbit folks? I did remember around 3:00 a.m., but I'm thinking those darn rabbits aren't paying attention because each month does not get better! Maybe we'd be better off saying orangutan or something instead. Does anyone know where the idea of saying rabbits before speaking to anyone came from? I learned about it here on the Forum. Gosh, lived all those years back East without protecting myself!

Happy March, everyone.

I did say rabbits just after midnight. I also learned of it from Soos, originally on the singles group, then here. Since I've discovered more people who have this belief. Yes it's a superstition but I fell into it. I did google it once but don't remember the true origins, just that it's been around a long time. Here's one thought on its origins:
"Where did rabbit rabbit come from? According to the Farmers' Almanac, the phrase goes back to at least 1909, when a British periodical featured a girl who said “Rabbits!” on the first day of each month for good luck. President Roosevelt also reportedly rabbited every month without fail."

I don't have anything planned for today. I've been eating too much (thank you Mardi Gras, lol) and not walking enough so will try to rectify both of these. I've been afraid to get on the scale because I'm sure I won't like what it says this week. So I should do that and knock all the sugar back again. It's hard to do with pieces of king cake still talking to me from my freezer.

Have a great day!

Good morning Everybody. I’m checking in from beautiful Kino Bay.

Evie, it’s interesting that you should ask about the origin of Rabbits. I just finished the book “A World of Curiosities” by the Canadian writer, Louise Penny. She starts the book with a character talking about her father saying Rabbits for good luck.
I believe Soos ,an early member of this forum, is the person who introduced the saying to us. Many of you have met her at gtg in Florida or visited her place in the Adirondacks.

I have a long time friend coming to Kino Bay today for a two week visit. She’s had it with winter on Lake Michigan and wants a break. I’m so happy she’s coming. Enjoy today. Peggy

Mornin' ladies!

I actuality remembered and said Rabbits! Twice! Once at 3am And again at 3:45. Couldn't get back to sleep. ugh!
It's a lay low day for me today. Went to the Tucson rodeo on Sunday and yesterday truck maintenance day as prep for hitting the road April 1st. Two winters of being stationary and I'm ready to hit the road but can barely get myself motivated to look at routes and reservations.

I have bugged Anita and Karen for ideas tho since I want to get to the PNW this summer. So far I've only figured out 2 stops in AZ. Just need to buckle down and figure out routes over, around, through the mountains. Double ugh!!

March is coming in like a lion here, wind, rain and snow expected again today but next 2 weeks are forecasted to be in the 70s. Fingers crossed.

Have a happy March ladies.

I don't think I remember Soos. The forum was a lot active back when I first joined - 10 years! - and there were multiple threads, seemingly all the time, so I may have missed her posts.

Those who knew her, please tell us/remind us of Soos. She sounds like someone I would have liked to meet.

Thank you.

Anne

I remembered "rabbits" right after midnight (I set an alarm :D ). I need all the luck I can get right now. Just laying here with Romeow in bed, rubbing his fluffy belly while he snoozes. :D

I got an appointment for the MRI for 11:30 today! It is all the way in Palm Springs across the valley but it is an open MRI which is better for me.

It rained here all night and cleared up a little while ago. Now it just started raining again. I was hoping I would have a nice dry drive down the freeway. Will have to leave a little early in case it is still raining when I leave. I don't like to drive fast on wet pavement. I also need to get some gas before I head out.

I always set my alarm on my phone for things I need to remember and I saw that I have it set for 4:30 today but I have no idea what for :? . No haircuts happening. Will have to check the activities schedule and see if there is something going on here this afternoon.

My tummy is feeling much better since I started on the Manuka Honey! I have had a couple headaches, but I think those are caused by stress, grinding my teeth, and being a little dehydrated. I am going to pick up some Gatorade or equivalent today.

I think I am going to cut my hair shorter again. I don't like how it looks now since I cut the longer stuff off. There is no real style to it. I think I will go back to the inverted (A-line) bob. It is easier to take care of and looks good on me, and gets the hair off my neck. I need to frost it again too. Maybe will do that later this week.

Well, now the rain stopped and I see some blue sky...it will probably go back and forth like this all day.

Happy March! Spring is coming! Have a good day! :D

Anne, Soos is from the Adirondacks and lives in FL in the winters. She is a hoot and a little hippyish. She used to be a teacher and has had a very interesting life! She loves dogs and hates acronyms (but it is funny to see what she comes up with when trying to figure out what they stand for! ). She is also famous for her "recipe". She has a good sense of humor and can be very outspoken at times. Very fun and interesting lady!

Anne, Soos is a phenomenon and not someone easily described. She is still quite active in the Facebook breakfast group and regularly attends the RV GTGs and meet ups in Florida. For her warmer weather months she makes her trek back to the ADK and her extended family’s property. She raised her kids there and after retiring turned the house over to her daughter. Her son lives in Florida with his family so Soos has had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the raising of grandchildren. She is a lover of dogs and finds her happy place out with nature and the wild things. She has a brilliant mind and is an inspiration for anyone with her dedication to life long learning, thinking deep thoughts, pondering life’s mysteries and appreciation for good fiddle music and the laughter of friends….

Anne, Soos is a hoot. She was very late to FB and swore she'd never leave here for it. Until she did lol. Her name on here is Nasoosie. And everything the others said is true. I remember when I first met her, I think 2006, at a singles gtg on her property in the Adirondacks. She wouldn't let us cook a turkey at over 250 degrees in a smoker. One of the guys got her on his 4 wheeler to take him around and while they were driving off, another was cranking the smoker. We could tell stories. As she would accept things she forgot that she ever wouldn't. Love that lady. Unfortunately the day came she accepted FB and she disappeared from here.

I finally got on the scale this morning and after 3 weeks and thinking how badly I've been with food and exercise, my weight hasn't changed. I'm in shock, but it's good shock. I do know that I kept my smaller serving sizes, so that must be worth something. I'd like to lose another 10 pounds but will not complain as long as I don't gain. And can maintain with King Cake in my diet (there's still more in my freezer!)

Barbie, my sinus problems and asthma means I live with headaches. No fun, I agree. I'm trying a new sinus nasal spray but some always gets down the back of my throat, thus into my mouth, and it tastes terrible. I'll get up on the morning and take a drink of water and that terrible taste is still there. So what do I do! Find something flavorful (and I'm sure fattening) to take that taste away. But I think it's helping, so haven't given up on it yet.

No saying Rabbits here. Usually get woke up by a dog in the middle of the night and wind up talking to her first

I talk with Soos pretty regularity on Messenger chat. Have never met her personally, but have talked with her a number of years. I agree with Tina in that she is a phenomenal lady. Hippyish yes, but having spent so many years in the daks, definitely a woods women. She stopped coming on here, because she says it’s gotten too complicated for her to remember how to access the forum and all the threads to keep track of. She likes FB. One click and she’s in. I agree about her hatred for acronyms, butI’m gradually getting to a point where I think they are being overused. I’ve read articles or sentences that have had so many acronyms in them that my mind goes crazy trying to to figure out what the heck they’re talking about. It’s hard to read it when you’re trying to remember what the acronym stands for.

Got all the snow cleared yesterday and enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon. Today marks the beginning of Meteorological Spring and the signs are definitely out there. We have a disorganized clipper coming through later which might bring some rain or snow showers. Hit and miss they say. They are watching that storm coming across right now and it could possibly be a major storm for Michigan. But as of right now it looks like my part of the state may be on the very low side of getting anything from it. Depends on the track. We will know more by tomorrow. Not supposed to be here until Friday.

Been enjoying reading about all the recipes and fattening goodies going around. This group has always been known for eating  I’m like Beth, I cut back on the sugar too.

Velda, I agree about the vaccines. I have been seeing more reports and comments being made about people having higher blood pressure levels after having had the vaccines. I also remember some of you talking about having little bouts of the chills for no reason. I find myself having the same thing and I am beginning to wonder now, if they are related to either the Covid shots or the Shingles shots, because I think all of us have had them. I didn’t really notice them until after I’ve had my shingles shot a month ago. I’m due to have my second one next week and it makes me wonder if I want to get it. They come and go.

The late afternoon is starting to get a little darker now so I guess that front is starting to approach. Time for me to go and fix myself some supper. Got my errands to run this morning and the dogs for a walk so that’s it for today.

I remembered rabbits at 1 am and woke up to blue sky and sunshine. Great start to the month! Now I’m packing to head to the coast for a few weeks. Friends and family are digging out from insane snow but I won’t feel guilty. It’s too cold to clean my van so wood chips will remain. The birds will miss me but flowers will bloom soon. Best for a good day (and month) :).

Well I finally managed to say RABBITS in the middle of the night when I got up to potty. I kept reminding myself before I went to bed, repeated it twice and when I woke up BAM I remembered. Of course it helps that the dog was zonked out instead of greeting me with her sweet face.

Went to the lab to get my labs drawn for my rheumatologist..whew that is over. I am a really hard stick and the lab gal there is excellent. One stick last time and same this time. I really think she has great skills. So I asked her what days did she work and she told me this was her last week........made me sad. She is from Texas. She is a traveling phlebotomist. So we chatted for a bit about traveling but I hope they have a need again and she comes back LOL

I came home did a load of laundry then ran to the store so I can make my tortellini soup. Is a new recipe for me so should be fun.
Did a little online retail therapy today as I wanted shower mats for my showers. Found a couple I liked so we will see if they will work the way I want them to. I also bought a couple of tile locators for my keys. I can actually clip them on my purse or anything else I want to find. I dont usually lose my purse but sometimes a set of keys will just vanish for a while. Not even sure how that happens.

Weather is back to more normal for this time of year. Lows 30's high in the mid 40's Mostly going to be cloudy with rain and occasional snow showers ....so yup that is fine with me. Tina Lyn told me she never puts her right birthday anywhere so I dont think it is.

Diana have a great time on your trip. I am jealous, just sayin' Barbie hope your MRI went well today. OK I am off to make my afternoon Mocha to wake me up. I am feeling very drowsy.

It wasn't raining when I left this morning but started again shortly after I got on the freeway. It poured for a bit, lightened up, quit, then poured again. Just drove in and out of it and back in it again. Luckily, the canals and washes didn't have much water in them so not a lot of run off. Most of it was soaking in, altho once I got off the freeway, the secondary roads were flooding at the intersections as I got closer to Palm Springs (they always get a lot more rain than we do since they are up against the mountains). Same thing with on and off rain coming home. Sun came out awhile ago but now is cloudy again and has suddenly gotten extremely windy! :o Looks like a little rain on the windows again too. It is also very chilly out.

On the way home, I stopped at my local WM and picked up some meds and a little bit of food. Now after lunch, I am under a throw blanket on my bed all cozy. Luckily, I started up my mini-split heater last night and it is working fine now. I should get the results of the MRI early next week.

I got a text message from my manager at Great Clips. He is not very literate as it is, and then with texting, his messages are barely legible, but I think he was trying to apologize for what happened and wishes I would come back. Sorry, not gonna happen! I imagine he got a lot of backlash from the GM and owner of the salon for his behavior, and of course losing one good stylist and probably the other one too, didn't give him any brownie points either, especially since they are so short-staffed as it is.

Speaking of ladies disappearing from here...Anita hasn't been on here since her cruise. I have seen her post on FB tho.

The black fluffy cat keeps hanging out on my deck (I no longer leave food out for them since they tended to "spray" on my deck  ). Romeow sits looking out the sliding door at him/her. He/she is a little skittish but this morning he/she stayed on the deck while I went to my car.

Good day to stay hunkered down here under the blanket and munch on some snacks (picked up some fresh picked strawberries yesterday at the farm stand near here).

Tina, Lyn put a fake birth date on FB so it isn't really her birthday. I fell for that last year too!

I didn’t really notice them until after I’ve had my shingles shot a month ago. I’m due to have my second one next week and it makes me wonder if I want to get it. They come and go.

Sue, from what all I have heard about shingles, having some chills now and then is a small price to pay to keep from getting them. I guess they are horrible to experience with the burning, etc. I need to get my shots too for that. My brother had it years ago so I am probably susceptible to them too.

Barbie, you might still get shingles with the vaccination, but it will be very mild compared to the real thing without it. In other words, instead of half-inch or bigger blisters all over for up to 6 months, you will likely get tiny blisters in a localized area, and it will last a much shorter period than without the vaccine. I had shingles as a child and missed over two months of second grade. I had a very high fever and my mother said I hallucinated most of the time. I had the original vaccine about 12 years ago, and then a mild case in 2019. My oncologist put me on an anti-viral for a year as a preventative since I could not take the live vaccine at that time. I got the newer vaccine a year later.

Way back in December 2012, I stayed at DisneyWorld for a few days, and Soos joined me on the golf cart I rented. We zipped around the entire campground during the day, taking photos of the various types of sites and checking out all the camper decorations. Had a break of pizza, and then went around again in the dark! It was great fun, and if I remember correctly, she said her son was working for Disney and was a naturalist responsible for all the lizards and such slithery things on the property! I thought that was a great job.

Happy March!

I came home from the cruise in not the greatest social mind so kept it all to myself. While most of the cruise was great, there were some not great excursions, a full very noisy ship and drama. Diane fell during an excursion and hurt her right ribs and arm so she spent the last 2 1/2 days in bed. She's doing better and will be starting physical therapy for her hand. Great weather, food, and entertainment.

As we were getting off the plane in Miami, Diane began talking to a lady and we learned there was a FB page the those going on the cruise. I joined and almost immediately got a message from a woman whose maiden name is the same as mine - Losey. We met on the cruise and I'm pretty sure our 6 great grandfathers were brothers making us 4th cousins! A genealogy dream!

My brother had his heart surgery on the 16th. I was so worried about what else they might find when they opened him up, and his lungs do show signs of emphysema. His first days at home were rough so I got the emotional phone calls, but things have gotten much better and he's doing well.

BJ, my Kansas daughter bought a RAV a few years ago and recently replaced it with another after a deer totaled the first one. Barbie, so glad you are out of that mess. People just don't watch what they say or where they say it anymore. Beth and Martha, I enjoyed your Mardi Gras visit. Steven and I saw the parade in Metairie 20 years ago. Irmi, congratulations to you and Steve! Shirl, I'll take a slice of bread please! Son-in-law made cinnamon rolls and fudge Sunday so they brought me samples. :) Sheila, I'm impressed you go out in the snow and cold as much as you do! I enjoyed a gtg at Soos' in New York! Her son has worked at Disney's Animal Kingdom for several years now. A picture of her and Sarah in the Sling came up in my memories from Hardee Lakes the other day. Soos looked like a kid with a new toy and they were just sitting in it. :)

Put in an application for a new apartment, but their processing is slow. It's in Cashmere, 11 miles east of here, and on the other side of where my daughter lives. I asked them to come check here for mold when I got back from the cruise. Still hasn't happened! I don't think there is any because I got to see where they are fixing the apartment that actually flooded, but it's the principle! There are now 20 vacancies here - about 180 apartments.
