Sat Nov 5th ~ National Bison Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sat Nov 5th ~ National Bison Day

Postby IrishIroamed » Sat Nov 05, 2022 10:53 am

Mornin' ladies~~~

Hope everyone is doing well, and staying warm if needed. Temps here in Tucson have been in the low 30s the last few night, but should be getting a bit warmer again starting today, until the next cold front moves in, but "they" are saying it should go more north than the Tucson area.

National Bison Day, who thought that one up? Think its apropos since I'm staring at maps trying to figure out where to do when I leave here April 1st. I still have to mark Nevada off my list (maybe a better winter destination next year?), want to go to Monument Valley and of course the ever elusive Yellowstone (try #5?). But also have in mind to head back to Tennessee to look for a home base. Doubt I'll find much in AZ, my friends were out here a couple of months ago looking and said everything was either way to expensive or run down (NW of Phoenix where their and my family are).

Haven't done a whole lot, other than getting my Tucson bearings since it's been a few years since I've been here, but I did run to the eastern portion of Saguaro NP late yesterday afternoon and have gone to Lazy Days and La Mesa RV dealers to see options. I have an appointment at Lazy Days on the 17th to diagnose slide problems, again!

That's it from me. At least it's sunny.

Good morning Cheryl!

Yesterday after the appliance guy left, I was upset so I took a long walk around the park to cool off a bit. I finally decided to pull up my big girl panties and get back to work on what I needed to do around here. I got the overspray from when I painted the trim, painted over. I got all my left over bins in order and got rid of the old ones and extra lids, etc. Washed the bins I want to keep. Added a few more things to the driveway 'free" stuff. Today I think I will finish cleaning the patios, etc. so the outside looks nice and neat and clean. Then back to the inside for cleaning. Oh, and my toilet isn't flushing so will have to look in the tank and see what the problem is. The handle isn't working so maybe just need to reconnect it inside (or end up getting new parts! ). Always something!

I did two more haircuts last night so made about $75 yesterday. Today is "hamburgers" day at the main clubhouse by the pool. Before Covid, every Saturday they would serve hamburgers and chicken fillet burgers for $4 with a drink and chips, and then have a free ice cream social afterwards. It is starting up again this year. I usually work on Saturdays so I haven't been to many of them, but will go today. Perfect day for it! Golf is official starting today as well. Big golf outing this morning! My putters golf league starts on Tuesday. :D

I got a new harness for Romeow. It is a lot less bulky than the other one so I figured he wouldn't mind it so much. I put it on yesterday and he hated it! At least he didn't fall over and play dead this time but he was definitely not happy. I left it on him for awhile before removing it. Will keep trying it and get him used to it. I kept it loose on him thinking it wouldn't bother him so much.

I guess I better get up and get moving here. Hope you all have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It started raining about 5:30 this morning and it has just moved off to the East. I haven't been out to see how much rain we got. We didn't get the tornados that Texas got, at least not down here. It got down to 55 and is up to 59. It will be back in the 80's tomorrow. I signed up for the campout in North Louisiana on the 17th. Hope it isn't too cold.

I managed to lose my cup of coffee this morning. I looked all over the house several times and finally found it in a cabinet in the utility room. I went in there to get a battery for a light in the old house. I use motion activated battery lights in there in case I have to go in at night.

Barbie, a $4 hamburger sounds like a bargain since they are about $8 at the fast food places. I have started keeping lettuce and tomatoes in the refrigerator so I can make my own hamburgers. Love my air fryer.

I don't know what I will do today. I think I have been to town every day this week. The Omelet Festival is going on in town this weekend so there will be craft booths in the square. Tomorrow they will cook the 5,000 egg omelet. It's more like scrambled eggs. I might go by there if I can find a parking place and don't have to walk a half mile.

We had a very welcome rain last night it did however come with strong winds. We didn't have any damage and our power stayed on. I slept through the action.

Cheryl I wondered how you were going to like Tuscon after being from the green landscape of the Midwest. Although I thought the landscape was interesting something about it was a bit intimidating to me plus I had a bad reaction to the heat in mid May. This was when I was on my way to San Diego in '84. Good luck with the repair on your slide. I hope you find a replacement RV soon. Have you ever considered a motor home? Lazy Daze used to have a wonderful reputation but not sure how they are now.

Catherine I hope the new baby continues to get better. So scary!! I've been seeing on the news how some hospitals have no room in pediatrics and are sending parents to other hospitals that are sometimes several hours away. And I understand after seeing your grandchildren's pictures how you can't say no to Jordi's sweet face. They are all very beautiful.

Barbie have you had any luck finding a new home yet?

Morning all. Kind of a lazy day this morning. Just remembered to put my FitBit back on after my shower....I often forget to do that. I dont really care but sometimes I miss my watch part, not so much the step count. I do like to see how I slept tho, I actually got a 90 score that said Excellent. First time in a very long time. Most of mine are fair. But I wasnt restless apparently last night so that was good.

Making stir fry for lunch, bought a new Teriyaki stir fry sauce to try. I also have some KungPao sauce I could use. Will throw my spring rolls in the air fryer (my favorite piece of equipment) I have some sweet and sour sauce so should be a good healthy lunch.

We have had rain off and on all week and supposed to continue. Yesterday it was breezy and cold. North of me had power outages from the wind and rain we had none of that.

Cheryl I enjoyed my visit to Arizon. Casa Grande and Tucson were my favorites BUT I dang near froze to death in Quartzsite, my outside chairs had ice on them and it was windy. I am not a desert person anyway. I like the trees, rivers, lakes, creeks, mountains, well you get my drift. I spent 6 months working in Mesquite Nevada. Beautiful area, close to StGeorge, Zion, Bryce etc. I lived in Beaver Dam AZ, all my appts were in St George Utah, and I worked at the hospital in Mwsquite NV. I struggled with the time zones LOL StG was mountain time, AZ never changes, and then NV PST. I set my clocks for Nevada I didnt want to be late to work LOL

Barbie I dont think you can be mad at the service guy because your oven didnt malfunction so he had nothing to fix...BUT he did drive out and make a service call and they charge for that, time and travel. Have fun golfing and eating today.

have a good day everyone

Well, I had to run to HD to get a new handle gizmo for my toilet. I was able to figure out how to install it but now when I push the handle down it won't pop up on it's own, so will have to ask Dave how to fix that.

I like the trees, rivers, lakes, creeks, mountains,

Karen, I am the same way. I really miss that environment. That said, the desert in southern AZ is really pretty with the saguaros and other green plants and cactus's. Much prettier than where I am.

The appliance store where the repair guy works, is not even a mile from where I live. I will gladly pay for his gas to come here and back! So far, they haven't called me for payment... :?

Time to head over for my hamburger! Have a new gal coming over for a haircut after that.

Regarding actually living in the desert...
The first winter I spent here 5 years ago, I realized how much I missed trees when I headed north towards Flagstaff, Winslow, and Show Low, so I doubt I'll be looking any where for year round residency. The desert had its positive points, like the open vista's, but if I would decide to do something here, it would be further north, but not in the snow bowl.

That's why I kind of thinking Tennessee. The folks I talked to when I was wandering thru there all mentioned how the taxes are good for retirees with pensions, and usually only about 4" of snow (central to Western TN), but then there could be tornados and flooding. It's always something to think about. I just don't want to end up back in Illinois, I don't think, especially since my family is gone and I only have cousins left.

Cheryl, there are trade-offs no matter where you go. Just have to decide what you are willing to put up with to get what you want. I will be on the same hunt as you once I have been on the road for awhile. Am thinking Colorado but will check out lots of other places before deciding. I might be like Beth and end up staying on the road for a lot longer than planned. :o

I made the mistake of getting a chicken breast sandwich at the cook-out. I did that before and the chicken was tough and not thoroughly cooked. Same thing today. I think they were a bit in a hurry cooking due to the huge crowd that showed up. I waited about half an hour in line to get my sandwich. Sat with some friends and chatted for awhile.

Did the haircut awhile ago so that is done. Now just laying down with a heating pad under my lower back. I need to get to a few more things yet today. Back to work tomorrow and Monday.

I would love to have seen a video of Romeow falling over and playing dead! My son sent me a video once of the dog trying to walk with his boots on. They got her boots because my son jogs with her and the road salt is not good for her feet in the winter. The first time she had on her boots, it was as if her feet wouldn't work anymore. she kept lifting each foot up and then not knowing how to put it down. Kids were rolling on the floor laughing. She loves to run and goes nuts whenever my son puts on his running clothes, but she was getting cuts on her paws. I think they gave up on the booties, but they do check her feet every day now, and sometimes she does not get to go for her three-mile run until they heal.

I am enjoying the fantastic view at Valley of Fire state park, 65 miles northeast of LV. So beautiful here!! Cold at night and sunny during day, but they did have a lot of rain a couple of days ago. I went for a walk today and found a lot of Bighorn tracks and poop in the campground sand, so they must have been here this morning. Going to post photos in a few minutes.

this month has been weird deposit wise... retirement normally comes on the last day of the month this month it came on Thurs it should have come on Monday ... so just now I went to the bank and noted the balance and thought why??? so of course check it out and my SS check it already posted.... it's due next Wed... just makes one wonder why... I have a lot more money than normal all though going to the grocery stores and gas stations put a dent into it
we had some snow but not what was expected which is too bad
it was one of those days that you just think curling up under the heat throw is feeling good so that is what I did finished a book...
I am hoping that my dd #3 will come over tomorrow if so we will have crab enchilada's if not we will have perhaps pork chops guess it is determined by what thaws quicker..
when I made the hamburger soup the other day I noticed that it seemed to have more fat than normal but thought it might have been due to getting the hamburger in a roll (don't normally get it but) when I went to the store was wanting hamburger for hamburger grabbed a 2 lb pkg and saw that it was a mixture of beef and pork which is ok for meatloaf but not what I wanted for a hamburger... all the other was 90% also not what I wanted so unless the hamburger that I got out thaws we won't have a hamburger for a couple of days..
I think the desert either calls to you or it doesn't ... I really love the desert... but I also love the mountains... that time you were in Q Karen was really cold but it would do that for probably a month or so... one year all the bougainvillea froze in one of the rv parks... and I've had my bird bath that I used to have freeze... but when I would complain I was always reminded that it wasn't the cold that we get up north... that is so true... Cheryl if you make it to Yellowstone give me a heads up and we will meet up.. you will have to spend some time in Jackson as well... remember if you plan on doing so they are reservation now... which I think is too bad..
you all have a good day
