Wednesday - National Gumbo Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday - National Gumbo Day

Postby Acadianmom » Wed Oct 12, 2022 10:16 am

I don't know who comes up with all these National Holidays. Just a hint from Louisiana, if you ever order gumbo and it has tomatoes in it, it's not gumbo.

I don't know what I'll do today. Yesterday I finally got around to mowing because it's suppose to rain today. The Weather Channel says there is 100% chance of rain but there is nothing on the radar. It is overcast. I went to Tractor Supply looking for a small electric heater someone had recommended. My electric heater I use in the bathroom quit. Tractor Supply's web site said they had the heater but they don't. It would be $16 shipping on a $22 heater to have it shipped to my house so am having it shipped to the store. The web site said it could take 10 days, we'll see. They did have the dog food I was going to go to Walmart for so it saved me a trip to Walmart and $100 I would probably have spent. Tractor Supply has the old time candy coated peanuts and I have to buy a bag every time I go. I'm glad I don't pass Tractor Supply every time I go to town so I don't stop for candy.

Sheila, hope they can figure out your breathing problem. My sister has COPD but isn't on oxygen yet but probably should be. She has coughing spells where she almost passes out but won't quit smoking.

Can't believe it is only noon here. Been out to breakfast and WalMart. Then picked up RV and brought it home. Bill carried all the bags out - all food from cupboards - and I've got them put away and got the Dish TV up and running. I thought it was a lot later. So might do some laundry I'd planned on doing tomorrow and some cleaning.
Tomorrow we will finish loading except for electronics and maybe freezer stuff. Plan on hitting road Friday.
As always I am wondering what I'm forgetting. But I do have a "getting ready to leave" list that I go by every year. Filled RV with gas. Managed to find a station that wasn't charging 5.50+ only 5.05 - still cost $200. Forty gallon tank. Our most used credit card company denied the charge. Thought it was fraud - froze accounts until we could call them. I'm glad they care...but...
Going to try to go walking with friend tomorrow morning. Then try to keep doing it while on the road. Good intentions...
That is all we are doing for now

I have never had gumbo so I would be clueless what is in it. Is it spicy?? It always looks good in the pictures. I am having sole fish filet, asparagus, and a small baked potato for dinner. Tomorrow will be having stir fry. I bought all the ingredients I was missing yesterday so I am ready., I would have had it tonite but I bought the fish so have to use it.

I got my 13lbs of lean hamburger divided up, food savered, and frozen. That should last me quite a while. Also froze 3 of my chicken thighs as I kept one of the bigger ones out for the stir fry. So my pantry is bursting, my freezer is full. Good thing my appetite improved LOL
Ann and Bill getting ready to hit the road to tropical Mexico. Would love to be hitchin' a ride ha ha Well I would have to be a stowaway as I dont have a passport anymore. Fire took it. I would have gotten another but being I am from Canada it is a bit of a pain in the butt the process I have to go thru. So I will just keep my butt here in the USA.

I got up and started fairly early today (10am) and finished up the living room and my gourd stuff, finally! Was done by noon. I took a load of stuff to the thrift store and dropped that off. Then dropped off a couple of library books. I intended to get all my cardboard boxes in the porch cut up and taken to the dumpster but I made lunch first and then got distracted with YouTube videos...

I don't work until 2pm tomorrow so I can get the boxes cut up in the morning. Same schedule for Friday and then have Saturday off, so am hoping I can get the porch done by the end of the day on Saturday.

Carol, have a safe trip to Mexico! Whatever you might forget, you can get down there. Speaking of passports, I should get a passport card.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Got a truck wash today at a place in Oregon along I-5, called Marshals. This is the first time I have had anyone but Blue Beacon or me wash it. They did a mostly good job, but there was a lot of banging of brushes that I have never noticed with Blue Beacon, and I noticed some small scuff marks on the outside. Anyway, it was really filthy, so I am glad I got it washed. Price was $2 per foot, so a total of $64, while Blue Beacon is usually only $42.

Tomorrow I get my new AC installed, and my old friend will be picking me up at Camping World to go out to lunch. Then on Friday, I head to a state park along the coast for a few days.

I would love to go to Mexico someday, but the heat would get to me this time of year, I am afraid.

Karen, gumbo is just a dark soup served over rice. It's dark because it's made with a dark roux. Around here it's usually chicken and sausage or seafood gumbo. I prefer chicken and sausage because sometimes the seafood gumbo is too fishy to me. It could be spicy depending on where you get it. I don't use hot sauce in very many things. You got a good deal on the ground meat. Here it is seldom below $5.00 and real lean beef could be $8. The chuck eye steaks that Judy told me about are now almost $10. I am eating more chicken than beef.

I am watching Expedition Unknown and Josh Gates is crawling around in small tunnels. Just watching this gives me the creeps. I have a touch of claustrophobia.

I used to watch that show Martha really enjoy it but we all know mom's tv only has 2 stations Hallmark movies and mysteries and the one with Wheel of Fortune ect on it... even when I'm here alone because I don't know the channel numbers or what stations different shows are on and sometimes the guide doesn't work... I leave it on Hallmark movies and mysteries...
I saved a recipe for Gumbo the other day using the star feature but now I don't know how to assess the things I've saved to it... any thoughts on what to do... I saw something somewhere about a app you can save recipes to from anywhere but now I can't remember what it was
I think I am going to like my granddaughter's color's in her afghan
the results from the pulmonary test aren't back yet so don't know what that indicates...
but the end results of the visit today was I'll need to be on oxygen while in the high altitudes... unless things change and they could I do feel better... before I was feeling winded at the least thing I did now I just feel like I did before out of breath to me they are different... I told him my theory he said it was highly possible...
my theory is that even though I had a light case of COVID last fall just a few days before I started getting sick I had the booster shot... I remember thinking as I felt a cold coming on that we know you don't get something because of getting a vaccine.... the NP said that the virus seems to attack our vulnerable spots and it could be that lungs were mine and here I am on oxygen... a series of things...
so now we will need to decide what to do.... I seriously think that mom is not going to last the winter but then I thought that last year... she just seems weak I can see it in her walking .... she is eating less I hear a wheezing that I've not heard just a lot of things so do I insist that because I really don't want to be oxygen that mom go somewhere that she won't be happy not that she is happy here but who knows what we will decide... it will need to be talked about soon as if I do go to Q which is what my selfish me wants to do I need to get things working towards that end soon.... although my brother is in FL for a couple of weeks...
my son in law came home today but he can't even attempt to walk for 4 weeks
I saw something at the buffet on the cruise that I've pondered over... next to the oatmeal was hot milk
so yesterday when I fixed Zoom I heated the half and half it made it so that the cereal didn't get cold was so impressed... I thought why haven't I thought of this ever!!!! I heat my syrup so I don't have the pancakes get cold from cold stuff being put on it... why not hot cereal???
you all have a great day
