Beautiful Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Beautiful Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Aug 09, 2022 8:04 am

Good Morning. It’s a beautiful morning out there. Sunshine, clear blue sky and 55°. I’m going to enjoy this day.

It just poured yesterday morning for quite a while and I know we probably got an inch maybe even a bit more much-needed rain. I didn’t care as I was working in the garage and just let it rain. After having not such great luck making a pallet board pumpkin the day before, I tried something different, which is how I see it really should be done and have three pumpkins cut and assembled. It is a matter of laying the pallet boards side by side and tracing the pattern on them and then cutting out the pieces one board at a time. It’s time consuming though. Think I have enough leftover pieces to make one more but I also have to cut out the stems and the leaves. But I don’t think I will do it again after I get these done As it takes time as I said and a number of nails. Be easier and less materials needed if I were to just cut it from regular lumber. But I shall see what they look like when I get done. Well post a picture for you.

I’m thinking of heading for the blueberry farm this morning and picking some fresh blueberries. They are way cheaper than buying them already picked and it is a beautiful morning. These are high bush berries so I know having to work at Ground level. Plus they grow them chem free. They are so sweet. I made a blueberry pie about a week or so ago and it was scrumptious. Plus I love to eat them. I can store them in the freezer for winter. Cherries are in too and that may be the next thing. Growers are saying that because he of the drought conditions in some places, the cherries seems to be exceptionally sweet this year. I have a hankering for a cherry pie. And then there is the sweet corn. Stuff is coming in hot and heavy.

So if I am going to get out and pick berries I had better get moving here. Take advantage of the cool morning air. Have a great day everyone.

My GF arrives tomorrow. Weather is showing afternoon rain/thunderstorms every day for the next 10. I'm just hoping these stay in their allotted time spot lol. Then we can plan around them. I've planned on us attending the rodeo near Bryce Canyon Thursday. We shall see. Clouds and cooler air are coming in now, so I'll expect rain shortly.

I agree about the hot even when dry. But having lived in both, I elect the dry over the humid. Especially if I can find shade. That said, one reason I'm spending another summer where I am is because I can handle these temps better. The older I get the harder the extreme temps high or low are to handle.

It also rained here, not enough but more is in the forecast and thankfully it has also cooled off and supposed to stay this way for at least a week!!!! The last several days have been very stressful as DH recovered form the botched procedure he had last Thursday. All seems to be well now for which I am extremely grateful. The healthcare here like so many other places is a definite challenge. I took him for his follow up appointment at the hospital today and I had a great time with the shuttle driver, he was a riot. I dropped DH at the door and went to find parking. The shuttle driver was going by so I asked if he would help me find a spot to park and take me back and he agreed. He found me a spot then we picked up another lady and she sat in the front seat with him. It was small like an extended golf cart. She must have been a ‘regular’ as they hugged. I said hey I’m jealous I need a man. We then laughed and joked on the way back to the entrance. When I called him to come and get us, as I got in I said ‘I found me one’! We chatted on the way back to my van and DH got in but by that time the driver was telling me his great recipe an older woman had given him to fry catfish using Dawn dish soap. I am not making this up!
The recipe
Fill a bowl with water, salt and add the catfish pieces
Put in some Dawn and let the fish soak in solution
Rinse and fry as usual
He then said
My buddy said that’s not safe. His answer, sure it is Dawn is environmentally friendly, they wash oil off all those birds so it is safe. Just rinse it. Best catfish ever.

It was all I could do to keep a straight face, get in my van and drive away while DH once again is asking me how I can have such long conversations with total strangers.

There were a few light showers yesterday. After it dried up I mowed again. There is a bigger area that was too wet to mow. These places get away from me and it takes forever to get them mowed. There are scattered showers all over again but it hasn't rained here yet.

BJ, I don't know about using Dawn on fish. Since the local deli has fried catfish every Friday I can't remember how long it has been since I fried fish. I am kind of wondering if the deli is going to stay open. They have a sign that they are closing at 1:00 because of staffing shortage. Before the store changed hands they use to stay open until 6:00 so people could pick up food after work. I have seen them run out of some food before 12:00. There are new faces all the time so they must not pay them very much. Before the store was sold the people in the deli stayed a long time.

I have a meetup meal tonight. I would like to go to Lafayette early but I can't leave Sugar in the house for a long time. It's too hot to leave her in the back yard.

The weather people are getting excited because the storm coming across the Atlantic might develop into something.

Hooray!! Set two traps and no mice last night. I assume that they chose to stay at the last campground, but I am leaving traps set for a few days.

Got two big loads of clothing in the dryers so have to run over and pick them up. High about 90 today, but supposed to have a little rain on Thursday. Not much else is happening, other than the views of the mountains around Ouray and Silverton in the distance are gorgeous.

we had a pot luck today was outside and totally a beautiful day... I took Pat's grape salad been a couple of years since I've made it or longer I so forgot how good it was...just wish that the grapes had been cheaper but when I got them thought I bet we don't see .99 cent a pound grapes for years... so paid more than I wanted but oh they were good grapes!!!!
came home read scriptures and took a very long nap... I got caught up in a book last night and choose to finish it....
way to go Judy I don't know where they went to but still no mice in the traps... oh well as long as I don't see them can pretend that they don't exist
don't know why went to get mom some ice water in her water bottle and no ice to speak of checked the bar it was in the correct position actually took everything out and put it back in.... but as I think back haven't heard ice drop since the filter was put in... don't know what that would have to do with it but surely we would have ran out of ice before now if it wasn't dropping ice... hate the thought of no ice I guess what I can do is get bagged ice and put it in the bin hopefully it would dispense the ice... I just hope that it's not another issue to take care of...
why is it that you want what you can't have I planned on getting some ice water when I got mom some and now I really want it!!!!
saw a report on yahoo that showed a dog or cat being reunited after 16 years of being missing totally amazing...
you all have a great day

Shortly after posting yesterday (4pm) I fell asleep. I didn't wake up until 9pm! :o Must have really been tired! I got back to sleep about 1am.

I was crabby today. I didn't snap at anyone but sure wanted to! I get more and more frustrated at work lately with things my co-workers do. One thing today is the gal I worked with is the new one who isn't too friendly. She is Hispanic. Then another lady was sent over from the other shop to help us. She is also Hispanic. So those two spent the whole morning speaking Spanish with each other. Then we got several Hispanic customers that came in and they were all speaking Spanish to each other. I figured they would do the haircuts since they were talking to them and I had no idea what was being said. Then one of the girls sent a teenage boy to my chair after he had told her what he wanted, in Spanish. I had to call her over to ask her what he told her. That happened twice today. It was very frustrating for me! Then the lady from the other shop decided to leave early without asking or telling either of us. Just packed up and left. The male stylist that I work with did that the other day too. And there were customers waiting for haircuts! That is a big no-no in any other shop. I don't feel it is up to me to say anything so I just keep my mouth shut, but it frustrated me. Maybe I am just getting too fussy about things. I think I am a little burned out there too.

It is still awfully hot and humid here. And it is still staying warm all day at work. I think WM is keeping the store warmer than they usually do. I wore my neck fan all day again today.

This morning I was getting ready for work when I heard a commotion in the kitchen. I went to check it out, and Romeow got his claw caught in the hinge of another cabinet door!!! :o I don't know why he puts his paws on the hinges! I grabbed him to get the claw out and I got scratched on both hands and wrists but luckily the claw had cracked and split and came off the hinge right away. No bleeding from his paw but I was bleeding! I don't know why or how that keeps happening. There are a lot of cabinet doors in this place with the hinges on the outside of them. I don't know what I could do to keep him from getting caught on those. Luckily, I was home (again) when this happened this morning.

It is this little notch that his claw gets wedged into...

Last night I was just falling asleep again after my long nap, when I was awakened by a loud noise. Romeow was laying on the pillow next to me and he had farted! Really loud!!  I looked at him and he looked back at me like "what??". What a typical male!

OK, so that is my grumbling for today...hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Barbara, maybe cut his nails a little shorter. How about picking up a roll of duct tape at Walmart and putting a little piece over that area of hinges? It would be awful if he got stuck while you were at work.

Maybe you could take off one hinge and find something that could use the same holes. Maybe a different design wound help though I think the tape is a good short term solution.

And Sheila, I have no ice maker but I buy a handful of bottled water in small bottles. I pour a little out from one or two and then put bottles in the freezer propped up at about 30 degrees. When they are frozen, I add some tap water back. They will slowly melt and give me ice water. When one is finished I rinse it out and add about 2/3rd water and freeze again. I keep maybe 3/4 going. I reuse the bottles also.

When I worked I would wrap one win paper towel and put it in my lunch bag. Kept my lunch cold and gave me ice water to drink!!!

You can also buy reusable water bottles that are freezer safe but watch out because many of them are really big are wound be tiring to hold. (Rubbermaid has some nice ones). And you can always go back to old fashioned ice cube trays. I use those occasionally also and then put ice cubes in small ziplock bags for when I want ice for things like iced tea.

Sheila if your refrigerator freezer is anything like mine getting the filter in and out correctly is tricky but could be your problem. It has to be a certain direction and the the bar on the ice maker dropped down. I would try installing the filter again. Good luck they are a pain!

I wouldn't use Dawn on fish either the smell alone would about kill me but I though it was funny that he thought because it was ecologically safe it was safe to eat! :o

I have an icemaker in the fridge that came with the house but it is across the room from a water source so wasnt hooked up. I have a small portable ice maker that works perfect for one or two persons. I start making ice in the morning and by afternoon I have a bin full.
