Monday Again

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday Again

Postby Colliemom » Mon Jul 18, 2022 7:01 am

Morning everyone. Sun is rising, temp is 57°. I think we are supposed to go i to the low 80’s today. Was a bit humid yesterday, but as has been the case, we got under cloud cover the past three days, so kept the sun pretty much subdued. We are on the edge of a Level 1 severe storm impossibility for tonight. We could use some rain.

Thank you for the compliments my raccoon. I am in the process of putting another one together for a friend and I have learned a few things about the spacers that go between the front and the back part of it, so I am trying something different this time. I just received another package of patterns that I ordered. So I have a bunch of them work with down the line here.

The area has been denied federal assistance from FEMA. Reason being that the severity and magnitude of the damage is not beyond the capability of the state, local affected governments and voluntary organizations. But the Small Business Administration has declared the area a disaster area and that makes low interest loans Available to businesses and residence for repair, rebuilding, replacement of lost inventory machinery or whatever. Outside of the trailer park, the majority of the damage in the residential area is roofs, windows and siding. There are a few homes that are going to have to be totally replaced but they are in the minority per se. Most of the homes in town are dealing with their insurance companies anyway as are damaged businesses. With the exception of the five businesses that were very severely damaged and are going to have to be replaced along the main highway, the rest of them have open back up for business or a scheduled to, within the next week or two. Some have some repair work that needs to be done which is mostly replacement of glass and stuff. Goodwill has moved their operations to a temporary building until their building can be rebuilt. So things are moving slow but sure.

Since the weather is warming up out there I won’t be doing much outside the next couple of days other than watering my plants. I do have some grass mowing to do but I don’t know if I will do it today or not. I have an appointment this morning with my audiologist but other than that my day is free.

Baby, nice job on the cabinets. That bracelet was such a lovely gift. Beth, I bet these next two weeks are going to go by fast enough for you so you can kick out that person that is driving you nuts. Carol, beautiful job on your wall hangings. Sorry about your flag. There are a lot of us who have flags in our yards here where I am.

Well, my brain is not concentrating on what I am doing here, because I need to get dressed and get myself ready to head to town. So I am going to wish you all a nice day and get my act together :)

Good morning, Sue & all who follow,

Sue, I'm another fan of your raccoon - it is darling! Too bad about FEMA denying help for the area - hopefully insurance & low-cost loans will help those who need it.
Barbie, The cabinet fronts look nice - really made a difference! and so sweet of your neighbor to make that kitty charm bracelet for you.
I can't remember everything else I've read about what's happening.

I, too, wake up in the wee hours of the morning - no matter what time I go to bed. I use my Fitbit to know if I have to keep trying to sleep (which I'm not usually successful at) - or if it's ok to stop trying. I just chalk it up to the aging process & the fact that if I really need to I can take a nap - although I'm not usually successful at that either.

I got my 2nd booster last Wed & had a day-long reaction to it. First strong reaction ever! Better to endure it for a day than to actually get covid. It was no fun! Glad that's over!

Is anyone watching Alone on Netflix? I got hooked on it this past weekend. If you're looking for something to watch, you might take a look at It & see if it interests you.

Well, time to get the day started...
Hope you each have a good one.

It is 57 degrees here also right now. And the sun is shining, really nice sitting outside here sipping my first cup of java. Going to heat up to 87 tho so will be warm later. Just doing a couple of housekeeping chores here this morning. I still seem to tire easily but I am trying to build up my stamina LOL I pretty much just layed around for a few months doing minimal chores. I dont want to exercise, just be able to last a bit longer doing projects. I have kind of a big list of what I need to get done eventually BUT no hurry I guess. I do see my new Internal Medicine provider next Monday so we will see what she has to say. The doc at the urgent care a few months ago said Acute Bronchitis, Infection, Covid (was neg that day) COPD or his best guess is Long Covid. I was super sick in January and have not bounced back to my normal self yet. So I too am thinking Long Covid. Can cause scarring in the bronchials so we shall see. Now to see how to treat it.

I usually wake up early but lately been waking up around 6. Fitbit doesnt give me very good sleep scores tho as I do wake frequently. I worked 12hr nights and loved it. Even tho I am a morning person i never was much of a night owl. Now I am in bed by 9. Not always asleep but reading or watching some tv.

Going to make some Teriyaki Chicken skewers for dinner in the Air Fryer. My appetite is small still so trying to eat small frequent meals. I need to make a grocery store run.

I am sure glad I got the mowing done yesterday and didn't wait. It rained 3/4 of an inch over night. I'm sure the grass in Maurice needs mowing and I will have to mow high and then low to get it done. I'll see how ambitious I am this week. I don't think we are suppose to have a lot of rain this week.

I got the towels that go back to the camper washed and bagged. There are only about two things I do right away, wash the dishes before I go to bed and put clean clothes away. If I leave a pile of clothes laying around it becomes a cat bed and has to be washed again.

I tried to call the local office of the DMV to see if they were open and of course they don't answer. Went on line to the state site and it is a PIA to navigate. I finally found where it says the Abbeville office is open for appointments only. I finally got an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. The last few times I have driven by the office there were no vehicles at all so hope the appointment works. I would also like to change the name on the horse trailer so I can sell it. I don't know if they will do two things on one appointment.

Sue, I hope the local businesses can get SBA loans. The farm supply I worked for in about 1970 applied for an SBA loan. I was the one having to do the paper work and they kept finding things to deny the loan. Instead of finding all the things that needed to be done for the application they would find one thing and send the paper work back. This went on for at least a year and they never did get a loan. Needless to say I don't think much of the SBA.

Karen, sorry you are still not feeling good. Covid cases are rising here and I really should start wearing a mask again. I need to start walking again every day but it's just so hot. I can really tell the difference when I slack off.

I need to call Sugar's prescription in to Walmart. I only need her prescription and a battery for my car's key thing but bet I can spend $100.

Morning All, same weather on the island. Went out to mail a card and take trash to the dumpster. It was like breathing water. Wanted to run a couple of errands but don’t think it’s safe for me outdoors unless necessary. Have a doctor appointment Wednesday but will stay home the rest of the week. Spent yesterday doing chores you don’t like to do but always glad you did. Lol. I put a large bunch of kale in the freezer and cut up two heads of romaine then spun the salad spinner. Really like Cobb salads so will be easy dinners during this horrible weather. Also organized the walk-in closet. Surprising what you find tucked away on a shelf. I won’t need body wash for a year. Lol Stay cool and safe

Good morning everyone, or afternoon, as the location may dictate!
Sue, I'd love it if you would chronicle your process, of making one of your wood projects, from choosing wood to types saw, to steps, sanding and choosing paint! You are the queen of woodworking in my opinion!
It was 106 peak past 2 days and headed that way today again! Ugh! Humidity in teens!
Karen, you might join the Long Haulers group I joined! Statistics I read, at least 25% of those with even very mild CoVid, end up with long haul syndrome ! I'm finding both ideas and support.
Catherine, remember, vaccines, ESP even a few months out, do NOT prevent CoVid, they only reduce your chances of severe disease and or hospitalization- by a lot! No specific vaccine for current strains is expected before October/November.
Stay well everyone! I'm off to Curves. I gotta keep trying!

Velda, You're right. The current vaccines don't keep us from actually getting covid, they merely keep us from getting severely sick or hospitalized with it. Thanks for mentioning that.
I've heard about the new one they're working on for later this year but didn't want to wait that long since I got my last booster was last November.

Not quite as hot as they predicted today. Was supposed to be 96 but is only 91, which is good. Humidity has dropped also, but I am still staying inside. Still problems with my grey water system, but I am managing. I keep dumping stuff in shower drain and plunging, but nothing seems to help. I am doing to let it drain a long time tomorrow, assuming no one is behind me at dump station. There is only one here, but the campground is only about 15-20% full, so I am hoping to be lucky.

It will be 98 tomorrow in North Sterling SP, but the humidity is very low, so that will help. The high humidity yesterday had me dripping with sweat!!! Right now the AC is keeping up with the heat, so I am happy being lazy and watching TV.

Got all my laundry dried and put away, and I changed my bedding and bathroom towels, but those can wait for another day to wash them.

Good afternoon from WI. It is in the 90's here and humid. I like summer, but would like it even better if it stayed in the upper 70's! Sue, I hope everyone who had damage had insurance, to bad FEMA wouldn't come in to help. It's getting dry here, my lawn has a few brown spots and our rain forecast is sadly lacking. I'm' going to water some to try to keep the brown at bay. I will be going to SD to Custer, Deadwood and MT. Rushmore and the Badlands, a week from this Friday. My grandson is going with me, yay! He is 17 and I wasn't sure if he would go, but he said yes, and said that is the only week he is available. So we are going.
Should be a good time, he has never been there before and he is excited.
Hope everyone has a nice week.

I left work right after the afternoon shift gal showed up. She is helping us out from another shop. I just met her today. When she walked in, I thought she was homeless! Looked disheveled and hair was a mess! If someone like that was about to cut my hair, I would be worried! I guess she also has a habit of not showing up for work and not calling.
I only had 4 customers today. Due to the heat and humidity, they were all sweaty! My clippers don't like sweaty hair and bog down. The sweat just sprays out from the blades. Not a fun thing to deal with but not much I can do with this kind of weather.

It is 116* with a 63* dewpoint, which makes the heat index 121*. :o I have it at 83* inside my house and it actually feels nice and cool to me!

I didn't sleep too well again last night but I think it was because I was drinking an energy drink in the late afternoon. I need to only drink those in the early part of the day. They do help to get me energized and motivated to do stuff around here.

I stopped on the way home at a Jeep mechanic shop to see if they could look at my Jeep this week but they were closed. They are supposed to be open until 6pm but I imagine they are closing early due to the heat. The guys can't work in the garages in this heat.

I better find something constructive to do for the rest of the day.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Oh Barbie I was going to complain about the heat here that is supposed to be coming in later this week but gees yours sounds horrible. Take care!! I wouldn't want the new person at your shop touching me!
We had two inches of much needed rain over the weekend with about an hour of thunder and rumbling. I was so happy Pippa as pretty much ignored it. At one point she seemed to be getting restless so I fixed a Kong with a little almond butter for her. That seemed to work!
I had a much needed massage today and I took Toby to be groomed. I got lucky, when I called the groomer she had a cancellation today! Usually I have to book several weeks out. When I walked in she said OH NO and threw her hands in the air. Then she look down and saw it was Toby and not Emma. She said I didn't think I could do another Standard today I have been working on this one for 2 1/2 hours and I have to leave in an hour and a half. It was an apricot poodle that also goes to "school" with Emma and she looked beautiful. I know the dog and I don't think the owner keeps up with brushing so I imagine it was a challenge.
It's time to start dinner for the dogs the day has flown by!
Rosemary I hope you have a great trip with your Grandson and the weather is cooler!

it was a lot cooler today with a cool wind so that helped a lot sounds pretty awful there Barbie... and seriously that hair dresser should have been sent home..
judy there is a business in Q that is called now I can't remember it but it's similar to the term for the been to long can't pull up his business name but went to Quartzsite our Town group page on FB found the name of the owner of the business which is cleaning out the holding tanks.... they clean them out they replace them they replace the valves ect but I would suggest going to FB do a search for Steve Korsvail in Quartzsite and ask him for his opinion of what to do... he may say to stop by and see them or he may say try this or that who knows but it can't hurt...
I don't have a fit bit to tell me if I sleep well I like to think I do...sleep about 6.5 hours to 7 am tired most of the time but hey it's my own fault go to bed sooner and I'd get more sleep ...
