Morning everyone. Sunshine and 49°Here this morning. Nice cold front behind the hot Weather of mid week. Hard to believe it’s mid June already and next week is the summer solstice. Then the gradual downhill to less daylight begins. But that’s down the road.

Shirl, glad you are enjoying my path picture. In all reality, that path is about 150 feet or so long, as it’s technically an easement between two roads. But it is a pretty path.

Anita, I got a good chuckle out of your garage door/Slung mishaps. Things go that way sometimes when the brain doesn’t kick in Been there, done that. Barbie, glad you are starting to feel better. Beth, hope you got the computer issue straightened out. Judy, love the view from your room.

Going to a Memorial service up at our township cemetary later this morning. Daughter of neighbors/friends from years ago. Parents are gone now, daughter passed away from cancer earlier this spring. Have know them for about 50 years. Her brother lives up here but sister lives in VA. Haven’t seen them for quite awhile, so will be good to see them again and visit. Having a little gathering at the township park afterwards. So I won’t be more than a mile from home each way.

Has been extremely these past two days and still breezy todsy. We had wind gust to 60 mph on Thursday and in to the 40 mph yesterday. Lots of branches and sticks all over. I cleaned up around the yard yesterday, but going to have to do it again

Morning Sue, more goofy weather, 91° yesterday and 71°today. Sunny, breezy and low humidity so will sit out in the balcony garden. Luckily I will be sheltered from the wind. I borrow ebooks from the library for my kindle. I’m having a difficult time because most of the books I want you have to wait weeks to get. I want mysteries but not ones that gives me nightmares. Get enough of that with news. I see ads for a new tv series, Dark Winds. Based on Tony Hillerman books which I have enjoyed for many years. I am not willing to pay for AMC+ to watch the show. Not willing to take advantage of free trial either. Gd sent me a picture of a smiling 7 week old great grand son which brightened my day. Will have jambalaya from the freezer for dinner. Have a large bowl of cut watermelon in the fridge so a good dessert. Judy, every time you mention fresh baked rolls I drool, I love bread. Lol Be safe

Good Morning All, We had a lovely break from the heat yesterday and rain!!! during the morning. We did get a bit of wind before the rain but just a few limbs down and it felt so good. I've decided I want the weather reporters censored. They should never be allowed to use the words 'in the foreseeable future' or 'no end in sight' when talking about a heat wave.

Our local pet food store is having a celebration today for their 7th Anniversary. As I was leaving the owner said do you want to spin the 'wheel of fortune' for a prize? I hadn't even noticed it there was so much going on so I said sure. I gave it a spin and won a $50.00 gift card. Was I surprised and happy.

I bought blueberries at the farmers market and I'm sorry now I didn't buy 20# as it will probably be too hot to go next Saturday. My bright ideas seem to come at the wrong time.

Oh Shirl I think I would like that also. I just looked online abs it appears it will be on Amazon Prime video so I'll be checking there as it's included in my Amazon Prime membership. Fingers crossed.

High winds again today and tomorrow then it appears they will lesson. Please, please! Someone told me Cedar City is rationing electric because of the high fire danger.

Lots of rooms last night but most left early. And the last departure gone about 15 minutes ago. The housekeeper should be happy.

My gf Ginger will be coming to visit next month. Hopefully I'll be able to comp her a room at least part of her visit. I told her she can stay the rest of the season haha. She's slept on my sofa several times. I promised to clean up....my rig is a disaster! She's one of Ty's favorite people so he'll be ecstatic to see her. It's been a couple years as she moved to Virginia when Covid hit to a daughters. She's recently moved back to Benson, AZ so we'll see her more.

Shirl, I read all of the Tony Hillerman books years ago when my children were small, and loved them.

I had also noticed the new AMC Channel series "Dark Winds" that you mentioned, and found yesterday that it appears one can stream it (at least the first episode - at least for now) on the AMC channel without paying or signing up:

I decided to give it a try and. . . meh to yuck. Big disappointment.

I got through about the first ten minutes of it, then just turned it off. Definitely did NOT have the Tony Hillerman "feel" - just your basic violence-based procedural "whodunit" kind of thing, with bad acting thrown in for good measure. No feel of mystery at all, at least in the part I watched.

This is probably just me, but I am pretty much done with the graphic blood-and-guts programming that seems to pass for "entertainment" these days.

If you like mystery novels (heavy on the mystery, light on the violence - with a bit of horse racing thrown in for good measure) - I highly recommend the Dick Francis novels. I think I have read all of them, and enjoyed every one.

Anne, I have read all the Dick Francis books too. Search Hillerman because Tony Hillerman’s daughter is caring on where her dad left off. I do pay for Britbox through Amazon for British mysteries which aren’t so graphic. Most of my favorite authors are gone. I used their books to escape from my young children. Lol. They interrupted tv shows but you could be interrupted reading a book and then resume reading after you handled the crisis. Anne, maybe you can write a mystery about an rv woman.

One of my favorite book series is of a detective. Written my J A Jance. I loved her books. She has a couple of series out one is a female sheriff, Joanna Brady The other is a news person, Ali Reynolds.

Wohoo BJ, congrats on the big win. I will finish my other half of burrito for lunch and eat up my meatballs and potatoes that were left over from dinner last night. Then need to take something out of the freezer to cook for tomorrow. I probably wont watch Dark Winds as I am not a big fan of psychological thrillers. I dont like horror films either. I like more the mystery and how they solve the crime type movies.

Yesterday my friend posted pics of the flooded streets in the Medford Area. They got quite the deluge I guess. It can rain all it wants if it keeps the fires away!!!!! We got rain but most of it goes around up and up the the Willamette Valley, that gets lots of rain. Our rivers are filling up, such a great site to see. I am hankering for something sweet to make so might go check out the pantry.

Shirl, if I had to choose one food to live on, it would be good bread, but it has to be good bread and I want butter with it. OK, that is two foods, but I am really glad I am not gluten intolerant! I have a mental list of all the really good bakeries I have found around the country.

It was too windy today (around 40 MPH out of towns) to go walking around outside, so I visited two museums, one in Stomness and one in the bigger city of Kirkwall. Lady at desk at one museum was chatting with me, and I mentioned the wind. She said she had not noticed it because she was only walking within the town. Another older lady heard me talking about the wind and how I only spent 3 minutes at the Stones of Stenness yesterday, broke out laughing because she had had the same experience that morning--get out of car, take a couple of photos, and get back into car as fast as possible without getting blown over. Even the sheep were lying down to get out of the wind.

I bought a couple of shirts, a tote bag, and key ring, plus some books. (Got a cute shirt with a puffin on it.) Since I am still walking with my knee occasionally hurting, I drove around in Stromness trying to find a closer parking lot instead of walking half a mile. Anyway, I went down several really narrow streets, and on one of them, a bigger car came towards me, and we had to pass with about 3" on all sides and between us. My left side was a stone wall!! And this car I rented is a hybrid, which means that every time I stop, it shuts down, and then when I push the accelerator, it lurches when it turns itself on. I understand the concept of a car that shuts down when stopped, but I am sure the designers never intended it to be driven in situations where you stop 40 times an hour to let another car pass!!!

And then when leaving the museum, I ended driving down the main shopping street, which is only one car wide and filled with pedestrians!! Will post photos in an hour.

I always loved mysteries, but now if they are too intense, they stress me out though there are a few I still read. Karen, I like J.A. Jance although I couldn't get into Ali Reynolds. She has a knew J.P. Beaumont out - have it downloaded from library. Judy, my car isn't a hybrid, but has that turn off when stopped feature and I turn that off! I'm still discovering things about the car after a year. If I had to pick one food to live on, it would be ice cream! Way to go, BJ!

Went for mani-pedi. Thought guy did an awesome job (arm and leg massages were wonderful), but fingernails (no polish) don't look uniform. I've been to this salon a few times and always seems to be some different people. He was the nicest of all I've had so far. Next week a hair cut!

Judy did the bakery say anything about the sandwich or refer to it as on a BardBun? They use a flour made from a really good wheat grown around there called Bard.

I like 'cozy' mysteries no violence just sort of a who done it. One series is by Jan Durham https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09SL ... k_ro_title I also like ones the Aunt Dimity series by Nancy Atherton.

This has seemed like a very long day even though I was busy all morning. Talking about bread reminded me I need to bake a loaf today. I have a very old bread maker called Just for Dinner and it makes a small loaf in 45 minutes. Very easy not like the newer complicated machines. Of course you can only find them on ebay as they stopped making them years ago.

Well, I watched the first episode of Dark Winds just now and will probably end up purchasing just the season on amazon prime for the rest. Yes, I think it's worth it and no, I'm not a fan of blood and gore but didn't consider this in that category. I'm going to wait and make sure there isn't a better option but I'm not interested in purchasing a subscription to that channel so this, so far, makes the most sense.

I've also read most of the books by all the authors others mentioned. I know I've missed a few as I've never kept records of them. J A Jance always comes to mind when I go to Bisbee.

BJ, I checked and my library does not carry author Durham, darn. Karen, J.a. Janice is one of my favorite too. Judy, good bread, butter and a cup of coffee, yum or a slice of crusty bread dipped in good olive oil and a glass of wine. I guess I am looking for good books and food to shut out our sorry world. been a out of the house day... we went to a flooring store for dd to get idea's for their condo in Jackson (they rent it out but is in need of some TLC with the ceiling having to be redone now is a good time to do it... then lunch and home for an hour or so so did my scriptures then and then off to the recital for my granddaughter... with a stop at the book store on the way ... actually found three books of the dozen I went looking for it's a used book store... cute name the Book Garden.... books are about 2 dollars a book ... then on to the recital... I totally expected to see several student's doing their instrument but it was just dgranddaughter... she is 8 has been taking flute since she was in kindergarten I think just before the COVID shutdown so until about 9 months ago it's been taught through zoom.. she did so well did about 10 songs with the "dark hair" grandma being the accompanist. was very impressed I told her that when she went into to high school that they would have to create a new seat for her because she would be way past the first seat truly though if she stays with it she will do so well.. then on to a friends to drop off a couple bags of magazines and her dd was having a ball tearing up the magazines...had a short but good visit with her... been awhile since I've seen her... then back to dd's
a long day but a good day...
I read lots but just the short quick reads perhaps one day I will have to try one of those you recommended one series of books that I totally enjoyed was Mrs ??? sure it's gone but it started out in the first volume with the CIA or one of it's counterparts thinking she would make a good carrier for some intelligence because of her age and nativity after all she was from a small town and president of the garden club I think .... not sure how many volumes it went through but I totally enjoyed her adventures.. all over the world hmmm Mrs in the title isn't enough information for google it will come perhaps
so windy here... and awful air... a couple of fires somewhere not helping the air quality at all

Sheila, I think the books you are talking about is the Mrs. Pollifax series. They are good. I like almost all the authors mentioned along with a slew of others. Also am addicted to the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries movies that are a series. Wish they would make more of them.

Thank you so much Evie I've racked my brain and you are so right.... don't you think that Angela Lansbury would have made a great Mrs Pollifax??? I watch a lot and I mean a LOT of Hallmark movies and mysteries and really like them the first two or three times...
