Can't believe no one has posted yet from the East! Judy - sure do love going along on your travels. Lyn - cute pet. After my calico long hair cat died, a friend gave me a toy one that looked so real that I often said "Hi, Gabby!" when I walked by the window where I had placed it. Hope your daughter gets the point when you send her the picture. I sure do wish I could have come along to your little get-together, but without Sharon doing the driving I'd probably get lost. Martha - are you kidding? What would you do with yourself if you didn't have all those fur babies?

Good morning Evie. Haven't been up too long and just on my first cup of java. Took the dog outside and it is raining. We need all we can get in drought striken Oregon. Since I planted my tomatoes and squash a couple days ago they are loving it. Nothing much planned for today. I have to go over to a neighbors and give him a map to a new doctor office he has to go to in Eugene...75 miles away for a consult and he is nervous thinking he wont find it. So I printed out step by step and it looks very easy so he shouldnt have any trouble.

Morning All, a lovely morning on the island. Sat on the balcony yesterday in low humidity and it was wonderful will repeat today. Tree pollen still high but allergy meds helps that. Just ordered printer cartridges, hate that, what a rip off. Lynn, your new pet looks like a Millie. Evie, hope you are doing well. Judy, love your trip so far. Lol. Sue, happy Gaylord is bouncing back. Beth, glad you had time off. I blame short term memory loss for those I forgot. No special plans just going to enjoy fresh air. Be safe

Good Morning All, Judy, If you see any “Adams” at the graveyard, they are probably my relatives as they were in that area. I loved all the James Herriot books years ago. I don’t read them now as they are too sad.
A picture of my “Millie” was sent to the daughter in NH. Have received NO comment on it.

I gave up my color printer several years ago. I already had a laser printer for genealogy which I love. Printed something a few years ago that came out faint so thought toner cartridge was running out. Bought a new one and still haven't needed it! Found out some things printed from the web come out faint.

My sister-in-law's WBC was so low they skipped her chemo this week. Now find out she has to have a breast biopsy. Getting worrisome.

Martha, men who don't listen to women make me crazy! Steven learned if I said the vehicle had a problem, it had a problem - learned the hard way! I offered to do a household repair for the kids because it was not in a good location for son-in-law with his disability. Apparently, he isn't used to capable women so offer was declined. Haven't asked if it got fixed. Sheila, sorry for your family losses. Judy, I am very much enjoying your blog!

I'm trying to clean up some of my clutter before carpet cleaners come Tuesday. Day is cloudy but not gray like yesterday.

When I went out to feed the cats I decided to dig up one of my roses. There was some kind of bush growing with it and I have been trying to kill the bush for a couple of years with no luck. The rose bush didn't appreciate being dug up and got me. Then I got blood on my pants so had to put them in the washer before the blood set. I hope the rose bush survives being dug up. Now I'm sitting in front of a fan trying to cool off.

Evie, you are right about my animals. The dog and cats keep me moving.

Anita, I know what you mean about men not listening to women. I'm not going to be a happy camper if I have any more problems running my air conditioner.

I loaded two gas cans in the truck so think I'll go to my favorite place, Walmart, to pick up a few groceries and get gas for the mower.

It's is still fairly cool here but the promised rain didn't amount to much. I'm ready for a nap as I've had a busy social morning. When I was at the farmer's market a lady who obviously knew me started up a conversation. She had on a large sunhat and sunglasses. We were at least 5 minutes into conversation when she mentioned what breed of dogs she had. Yay, finally I knew who she was. When I got home and was walking Pippa a neighbor who was driving by stopped and said she had strawberries and carrots for me. So we walked to her house, then back to mine where were continued to chat for awhile. When Pippa and I resumed our walk we met up with neighbor on the other side which resulted in a longer conversation and a tour of part of her very large garden. As we were walking back a man was mowing the yard across from us and I wasn't sure Pippa was going to be brave enough to walk by. About that time he shut off the mower and said in a quiet voice I didn't want her to be frightened. How thoughtful! Pip is already napping so I better get mine in before she wakes up ready to do Zoomies.

Did a load of laundry in this very nice "cottage" but it took well over an hour. Machine just kept running and running forever. The Brits often have front loading washers in their kitchens but either hang their clothes up outdoors or use one of those hanging racks. Mine are all hanging on rack because we expected rain today, but it turned out to just be partly cloudy. Tomorrow is supposed to be 70% rain, but in afternoon. Monday is 80%, Tuesday is 40%, Wednesday is 80%, and Thursday is 70%. I leave Friday morning, so after the laundry was done, i hopped in my rental car and headed out to a medieval bridge that was rebuilt in 1717 by George Duck, who I believe is my 7th great-grandfather. Turns out that he did not do this to preserve an important historical item but because the River Esk split his farm, and he wanted a bridge to use to access the other side from his home. Only small animal-drawn wagons to go over it anyway, because it is only 5' wide! After I took some photos, I did some wandering in my car around the Moors and found a gas station to fill tank about 15 miles away.

Have finally figured out how to use the stove, wall plugs, and the two different kinds of hot water radiators upstairs and downstairs. (Bedroom and bath are upstairs, living space and kitchen downstairs in my little cottage which used to be part of a barn!) Even the shower is tricky, as to take a shower, you have to pull a cord hanging from the ceiling to turn on the continuous hot water heater and make the water come out of the shower sprayer.

The wall-mounted, hot water heaters are more modern than the old type, but are difficult because they are programmed with a timer, and I have had a devil of a time resetting the temperature. Owner is very helpful, however, and there are instruction sheets, but they assume some knowledge of how UK things work. The farm lane runs through the property, and there are barns on the other side of the tiny road. Someone else owns the barns and the farmlands, and raises cattle. Right now the owner has a field full of young heifers who moo loudly at about 5 pm because they want to be fed! After that, all is quiet. Go back to the Home Page and click on Gallery to see photos of the farm and the area--really beautiful!! My 2nd great grandfather worked on this farm at the time he married my 2nd great-grandmother! The owner knows a person who has done research on the farms in the area and gave me a contact number to call him.

Anita I used to tell my husband we had a flat tire and he would have to walk out and look at it to confirm it was flat. I tell him a light was burnt out he had to flip the switch just to verify...used to really tick me off.
I too gave up my printer, geez the cartridges cost more than the dang printer. I bought a laser printer (just a little more than $135) I am still on my original cartrdge and have printed lots out. What sold me is sometimes I print lots and other times not so much and if you dont use it no problem with anything drying out like the print cartridges. Easy in and easy out to change. Just bought 2pack of cartridges for $32 as it has been about 1 1/2 years now so maybe soon I will have to replace a cartridge. My ink jet printer would have been $55 or more now because you couldnt change one and not the other cartridge.

Martha glad you got your AC fixed, lets hope it lasts. Hydrogen peroxide is good to take blood out of stuff. We had bottles of it on our L&D unit for obvious reasons. Shirl it is so nice when we can sit outside AND breathe. I am not too bad today but havent really been outside much today. Lyn your "Millie" is very cute.

Just looked at your cottage, OMG it is darling. I can see why you chose it.

Cottage was a good choice. Not only is it really clean, but it has a washing machine to give me a break from washing things out in hotel sinks. I will do one last load the last night i am here. Also lets me make some iced tea and ice cubes. Only place I have found so far that serves iced tea is Starbucks, and love getting full glasses of ice with my tea there!! The Brits are really hot drinks people. Every restaurant has a long list of various coffees and teas, but if you want things with ice, your only choice is Coke of soft drinks and even then, they often do not have ice cubes available.

Can only reserve most "cottages" by the week, but the daily rate is not quite 100 USD, which right now is very reasonable for UK prices. And I will save money on food, plus be able to cook things I like instead of relying on sandwiches and fish and chips!! Have a TV downstairs and fully equipped kitchen.

And this is a beautiful location--great views on all sides. Plus nice to see cows and a lot of mooing!

And that checking things is such an awful man-thing!! Drives me nuts to go into a dealer and tell them my lights or whatever aren't working and have them get in to make sure they really aren't working. Like knowing when a light is or isn't working is a difficult thing that women cannot be trusted to know!!!!

Back in the dark ages I learned to drive in a pick up truck with of course a Manuel transmission. In my sixtiesI went to but a Dodge Daytona. The salesman said he would have to take me on a test drive so he could explain the operation of a Manuel transmission because he thought it might be more than I could handle. I took off in the car and it was a few minutes before he could lift his head off the headrest. I smiled all the way home in my new car. As my grandchildren mentioned to me, ladies put on your mean face when dealing with men. Lol

Judy, you are so amazingly organized. Your cottage is perfect. Mooing cows are better than crowing roosters that do not shut up even when fed.

Way back in late 80s I worked in the training department of a GM transmission factory. There was a young woman there who taught a transmission tear-down and reassemble course. You can imagine what happened when she had to take her car in for a transmission repair and the service people treated her like a dumb blonde!! We all cheered when she told us how she educated them when they tried to tell her fake stuff about what was wrong with it and tried to overcharge her.

I learned to drive in a car with a manual transmission. I can still drive one 60 years later but don't want to. I wish I had the muscle memory like that for line dancing.
