Thursday April 7

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday April 7

Morning All, enough with the Apple showers. It’s 46°dark rainy and gloomy. Had to turn on the balcony light to see the tulips. Tried again to post a picture of the cute solar lamp without success. Of course it isn’t solar until charged by the sun. Lol Had doctors appointments last two days and a Cobb salad from Chic fil which was good. The new Target store has opened on the island but will wait for nicer weather to visit. Waiting for east coast members to check in, just a good morning will do. Be safe.

Morning Shirl and all. Sounds like things are normal in the Jersey Shore. Cloudy and cool here. That’s for the lamp sounds interesting.

I wonder how the weather is farther up into, Maine New Hampshire and Vermont, as a friend of mine downstate said that her sister and another friend are leaving in 2 weeks to take a trip up into those areas. We think we are going to run into winter yet. Not tourist season yet.

Velda, you asked about my Cholesterol levels, here They are:.

SPM Activate was suggested by my Chiropractor who is a believer in Holistic approach. AShe has taken courses in Holistic approach to health and care of our bodies. The supplements, pain creams etc. the office sells are natural remedies, not the over the counter stuff you buy in the stores, which contain a mess of other ingredients we don’t need and very little of what we do. She recommended this to me because I asked her if she had an alternative to taking statins. All I know is, my cholesterol nose dived after I started trying it, Along with a low carb, no sweets, breads diet and daily walks. It’s a supplement, not a drug. Same as taking Vitamin B or C, Iron or what ever supplements a person needs. I’ve also noticed that my skin has gotten softer which is one of its benefits. It’s also good for the lungs, heart vision and a few other things.

Jan 2021. HDL 72
LDL 223.2
Triglycerides 77

May 2021. HDL 68
LDL 153.1
Triglycerides 57

I have not been able to have them check since due to all the issues with the hospitals in the Covid situations. We are a small hospital here and part of a group of Hospitals. They were not doing anything that was not medically necessary. Things are now getting back to normal so I probably will golater this spring for a recheck. I have added some weight since I had that test done so I wanna get some of it off first. The hospital used to have what they called Wellness Wednesdays. Or you could go in on Wednesday during a certain time. And for $10, get weighed, blood pressure checks and blood work done right then and there. You didn’t need an appointment but if you wanted to have your blood sugar levels or cholesterol levels checked you had to make sure that you fasted before you went to course. That came to a screeching halt with the Covid and I doubt it will probably be reactivated. It’s nice because you didn’t have to make a doctors appointment and you could find out your results right away.

Barbie, one of the things that I tend to snack on if I get a little hungry is celery sticks. I know a lot of people don’t like them plain, but after a while yo get get used to them. Ever liked broccoli, but when I went on to a low carb diet a few years ago, that was one of the very low carb veggies that you can eat Ali g with green beans, and I made myself eat it and now I like it.

Woke up fairly early this morning. Will just peruse the internet for awhile. I am two weeks behind on church services...

I am so excited that Tiger Woods is playing in the Master's golf tournament! I hope he can make it thru the week and into the weekend! That man is amazing! He has the most "can do" attitude and has overcome incredible odds, especially after his accident last year. I asked for Sunday off so I can watch the last day. I love the golf course (in Augusts, GA) which is lined with blooming dogwoods and gorgeous azaleas this time of year!

I didn't get to cleaning up the kitchen yesterday. I went to do the 2 haircuts on Debbie and Dave, sat and chatted with them for awhile and once I got home, I wasn't very motivated to clean.

There is a Dairy Queen that I have been waiting for over 6 months to open, just a couple miles from here and they just opened this week! Bad timing but I might just cheat a little and go get a small cone.

It will be about 98* today and it looks like no wind out there right now. So definitely an indoor day today.

Enjoy your day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Sue, what were those numbers BEFORE the supplement. Bringing down cholesterol, if you mean total cholesterol is actually no longer a good thing as women with lowest total cholesterol are at higher risk for dementia as cholesterol is vital to the brain. So what part of your numbers went down? Main focus should be on triglycerides ( yours are great) being down and your HDL (also yours is good) being up and closely matching triglicerides, which yours does. You can do those two improvements by diet alone! If you are on that supplement for lowering total cholesterol, thats not a needed or good thing. Statins, or statin like drugs/supplements are a financial scam. If you check actual research, the risk vs benefit is not in favor of stains, due to the minuscule lowering of risk for heart attack or stroke and that only in certain very vulnerable people, mostly men with previous heart attack. So, your person "took a course"? What was that course? A weekend lecture? A actual longer certification? A advanced degree? I'm very skeptical of anyone who uses the words, " took a course" , because I've caught even MDs saying that, when in fact it was a 60 min demo at a medical conference for which they got CME credits.so, which specific part of your Lipid panel improved with that expensive supplement ?
I took Red Yeast Rice for years with my MDs approval and encouragement. It did nothing! Going no grain, low carb, changed the important numbers in under 2 months- cutting my Triglicerides from 145 to low 70's and raising my HDL from 50's to 70's. That was totally diet, I had quit Red Yeast years before.

Barbara, every time you "cheat", you set your progress back. You increase inflammation. You stimulate insulin resistance. Instead order their burger lettuce wrapped without a bun, and enjoy being successful. I have yet to find a fast food place that won't do lettuce wrap. Even Subway will convert your "sandwich/sub" into a salad, using extra lettuce. Every time you put sweet into your mouth, you trigger again the sugar monster! You can do this, you need to make the decision to do it just for today (low carb), then get up tomorrow and say that again-I'll do it just for today!

Another day where it is cloudy and then sunny. Supposed to be freezing mix tonight yuck! But the weekend looks good.
I Google any supplement I consider taking for reviews and side effects. Chiropractors like doctors prescribe supplements to make money. Almost every chiropractor I've heard about recommends a particular vitamin or supplement and most are from MLM companies. If you take anything always look up the possible side effects, particularly on herbals, and especially read reviews but be sure to note who is giving the review that it isn't the company that made the product. So far all I take is a blood pressure med and I would like to be able to stop that! I'm to the point in age that I eat what I can and what I want. I do watch sugar but right now especially just getting food in my body is the important thing so I don't loose any more weight! I still have to blend almost everything I eat and it changes the taste of many things.

I gave Pippa a little hair cut this morning. i trimmed the pads of her feet and the hair around her toes. Also trimmed a bit from above her eyes so she can see better. I was looking for a groomer but realized she is so small I can do her myself now that I'm feeling better. I used to groom all my dogs but it just got too much!

I had a glass of wine with lunch and now a nap is next on my agenda!

If anyone wants to continue talking about keto, I would like to see a topic started in the general room and it kept there. There are varying points of view and I'd rather it not be continued here. Thanks!!!

Beth, thank you! You must have been reading my mind all morning!

Beautiful day before cooler and maybe wet. I'd go for a ride but the phone saga continues. After my e-mail Sunday night to corporate, I got somewhat of an apology from the store for 'letting me down'. He sent the FedEx tracking number so I know the phone arrived at the store yesterday so they could make sure all was in order. They were to ship it out immediately, but of course, I have heard nothing including reply to my e-mail this morning!

Shirl, I noticed the lady upstairs has a small planter hooked over her railing with a geranium (I think) in it. The planter is a small version of an old tin bucket - cute but I don't want to copy her. :) My hibiscus is still inside because we could have some very cold nights. I was surprised to see an azalea blooming by the door into the apartment - suppose it had already bloomed when they planted it last year. Mountains got a bit of snow Monday night and were beautiful.

Hoping everyone in the storm path is safe!

You're welcome, Anita. :)

And I added a gorgeous picture of Shirl's tulips to the existing thread, as well as a picture of her new solar lamp.

Work is interesting. That's about all I'll say right now.

Beth, I was just thinking that this morning, that Maybe it’s time to carry the diet/cholesterol conversation over to General talk. We do have quite a conversation going. Anymore comments I make will be over there. I should have followed through with my thought and started it this morning instead of doing it on coffee. My bad.

But I will answer Velda’s question from up above. The January 2021 numbers were before supplement, the Mat 2021 was after I had been in them for 2 and a half months. The LDL was the biggest change.

I actually accomplished something today ....vacuumed cleaned out the pellet stove there is two areas that need to be cleaned one is the inside where the pellets fall into and ignite and under is a drawer that some of the ashes fall into the inside one gets vacuumed out I don't do it very often probably should do it more often I need to so check it out I've not seen it burning since but been in another room.. and earlier it was hot enough that it wasn't going to burn anyway had it set at about 69
watered plants and even found a place for the baskets of plants that my sister in law sent with us from those sent to her..
it always feels good to know that I did what I intended to I also went through 2 magazines pulled out recipes that looked good and probably will never make but will hang on to them...
not heard back yet about my taxes but probably tomorrow or Saturday
you all have a great day
