It's Tuesday!!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It's Tuesday!!

Postby JudyJB » Tue Jan 18, 2022 11:44 am

Just going to open a quick post and hope no one opens one at the same time.

Got a dentist appointment for 4 pm today, and it is in a shopping center so easy parking I hope! High of only 64 today, so I switched into below the knee pants. I went out yesterday for a brief walk and chat with my neighbor. Otherwise, I have been incredibly lazy.

Judy can you PM me with where in Florida you currently have landed and maybe were you are planning to be in the next week or two.....just to see how far apart or close together our paths might be while I am here. I am heading out towards Nan's tomorrow......

The coiled electrical cable came in today from Blue Ox and I feel safer heading back out on the roads that my Honda will have lights when needed and the braking system activated correctly.

The only "oops" I have had so far is the the inside latch on the side door will not work. The door handle on the outside will open the door but not the one within. It makes me very happy to have alternate doors to go out. Most of the time since it failed yesterday I just don't close the door completely when I am inside. It is heavy enough and Lark doesn't realize that she could bully it open if she had to. She is not a girl that likes to push limits so I am betting that it would not even cross her sweet mind.

Already tired this morning and it isn't even 11am yet!

I played putters golf and that was fun. Beautiful day! I did pretty good too considering I haven't played for a month. I got a birdie on one hole!

I mentioned the other day that I removed the red ribbon from my willow tree so it wouldn't get "trimmed" (ie; butchered!). The crew was coming around this morning trimming the trees so I decided to post a sign on the tree in Spanish saying 'please do not cut my tree". I was sitting out there watching them trim the tree next door. Then the guy came over to talk to me. Luckily, he spoke English. After we talked, he said "you're the boss" and was very pleasant about it and left. I thought I was done with that. A short time later, another guy came over and was very insistant on cutting the tree. He said they would just "clean it up" but I said no. I know how guys get when they get a chain saw in their hands!! They don't know when to quit! The tree has finally come back after being totally butchered last year and is perfect now. So anyways, he gets on the phone with his supervisor (I think that is who I spoke with earlier) and when he got done talking to him, he said they are not gonna touch the tree. Yay! But I am gonna keep a close eye on it all day just in case!

Need to get some shorts on and start working on the porch. It is warm in there because the sun is shining in there now.

I have been a bad cat mom!  I went to cut Lola's claws which I know were overgrown but I didn't realize how bad they were! I was able to cut most of them but there are 4 that are grown right to the pads of her paws (not into them but just touching) and I can't get the trimmer blade under them to cut them. I don't know what I can do to get them trimmed, short of bringing her to the vet or a groomer to let them do it. I feel really awful about it. I have never let them go like that before. She hates getting them trimmed anyways so it is hard to hold her still enough to do a good job normally. Any suggestions??

Off to the porch...

Good Morning - tho not much left of it!

Watching the crazy weather everywhere! It has been quiet here. There are guys on the roof across the way shoveling snow. I watched snow come off when they shoveled this building the other day. Little loader is back moving snow. Kids are coming today when Monica gets off work to help me dig car out. I haven't seen it yet, but they dropped off packages yesterday and said it wasn't bad. Sidewalks are a mess and I don't understand why.

Everyone be well and safe!

Barbie, I can just see you guarding your tree. I have never had a cat that their claws have grown that long. Lola must not sharpen her claws on the furniture like my cats do. Maybe use the scissors you cut hair with and try to run the end between the claw and her pad. You might have to get someone to hold her.

Tina, my experience with the door latches on vans has been that they are expensive to fix. Especially at a dealer. Maybe check around for prices. Chances are that they are not going to have the part and will have to order it.

The local deli had smothered rabbit stew today and my son came all the way from Lafayette just to get some. I had a pet rabbit so I'm not eating rabbits. I went to town to bring him something and go to the post office and bank. I mailed the local animal aid a donation in memory of Betty White. The parish animal control doesn't do adoptions but they let the local animal aid pull animals to be adopted.

Yesterday I put a big stuffed pork chop in the slow cooker, covered it with mushroom soup, mixed a box of Stove Top Stuffing with chicken broth and put it on top. It wasn't too bad. The stuffing was a little soupy so if I make it again I think I'll use less chicken broth. Today I'm making cauliflower and broccoli soup. I think I'm suppose to blend it with one of the immersion blenders but since I don't have one my soup will be chunky.

It had warmed up to 71 but it's getting windy and already starting to cool off. I try to walk Sugar about 4:00. I can already tell that it's staying light longer every day.

Barbie, I have a terrible time keeping Ty's nails down. I hope you are able to do something.

Judy, great news. I bet you're going to be much happier eating now.

Barbie, I loved your comment about men and chainsaws! Since you grew up in Minnesota, did you ever see the Canadian Red Green show, way back when? (In Detroit, before cable, our 4th TV channel was Canadian)

(For those of you who were not lucky enough to see this old show, it was about a bunch of men in the north woods who were all members of Possum Lodge. They believed that anything could be fixed with duct tape and a chainsaw. (Basically, they were 12-year-olds in men's bodies.) Some of their favorite saying were:

    1) If women don't find you handsome, at least they should find you handy.
    2) If it ain't broke, you aren't trying.
    3) When the going gets tough, switch to power tools.
    4) If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
    5) Remember, you may have to grow old, but you don't have to mature.

Each week, they ended the show at Possum Lodge reciting the man's prayer: "I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess." It was a really great show and sometimes you can see reruns on PBS channels.

The guy who bought my golf cart came by today with the money, so I took that, along with the cash tips I have been putting away and brought it all to the bank to be deposited. I stopped at Taco Bell for lunch and then to PetSmart. I asked one of the groomers what I could do to cut the rest of Lola's nails. She said to use a smaller trimmer and put something between the nail and her paw pad before cutting. So when I got home, I found a smaller trimmer than the one I was using and slid a small piece of paper between the claw and pad and was able to see better what I was aiming for. (Besides her crying and writhing, she has long fur between her toes, so that didn't help any). I was able to start clipping at each claw and eventually got them all clipped down to where they should be. I will NOT let that happen again! She wasn't all too happy, so I opened a can of wet cat food as a peace offering and she seems happy now. Probably feels better too.

Then I got on-line and ordered my new E-bike! That will be here next week. I ordered a few accessories for it as well. That is my birthday gift to myself! :D Oh, and thank you for all the birthday wishes yesterday!

The tree got left alone all day too so that makes me happy!

I fell asleep earlier and slept for about 3 hours. Martha, you are right, it is just after 5pm and it is still fairly light out. It wasn't that long ago when it was pitch black before 5pm.

Didn't get anything done on the porch  but there is always tomorrow. I do have my annual physical tomorrow morning. When I went to get my prescription filled a couple weeks ago, I was told by the pharmacy that my health insurance was no longer valid and I had been switched to another one. Well the other day I received a new insurance card in the mail from the company I have been with for 2 years, so am assuming I am still with them and the pharmacy was wrong. They never said anything last week when I picked up my meds for the UTI, so something must have gotten straightened out on that, I hope.

Judy, yes I do remember the Red Green show! Me and my brother used to watch it. It was stupid as heck! But you still had to laugh at it. Glad you got your stitches out! Did he say anything about what was done in there?

The movie I watched last night, "The Lost Valentine" with Betty White was so good! I cried a lot tho at times. She was such a great actor in that! And I always love Jennifer Love Hewitt! I have also been watching the reruns of the "Golden Girls". That is always a hoot to watch. Another show Betty White was on was "Hot In Cleveland". That show was hilarious! If you haven't seen it and you see the reruns listed, watch it. She was only supposed to be on the very first show but was such a hit that she ended up staying on as one of the main characters.

Have a good night!

No comments from the dentist, other than it was healing nicely and no infection. I had a couple of sore spots on the side, but apparently OK.

I am thinking that 64 inside would feel good... probably in all reality it's warmer than that in here but it sure doesn't feel like it...one day I swear I am going to go get a thermometer and see what the temp is in the living room... actually the thermostat is set at 65 so that is probably what it is... brrrrr
Martha you can use a blender to blend the soup... just be careful take that one part of the lid off and cover with a towel according to one of the chef's I watch on FB that is how it is done... I have one of those blenders ... in the trailer  every once in awhile I think of something that I want to use that's in the trailer....
have finished the one side of the Swedish Weave... yea!!!! still need to trim the fringe on the other afghan... think I will try to remember to do that tomorrow... if I make it out to Idaho FAlls on Saturday I will get me some yarn so I can start a new afghan these colors I'm not sure about she wants a soft pink a robin Egg (it's blue) off white and heather gray hopefully I will find the color's that she wants....
and I hope that I like them
I think we won't have pasta any time soon.... fixed tortellini the other day left overs not enough I thought so fixed spaghetti and meat balls still leftovers of both... shouldn't have made the spaghetti  so then Sunday niece and family where here they were here for mom as I was gone most of the day ... didn't think I'd be home in time for supper so asked if they would prepare something you guessed it spaghetti and meat balls... ;) she asked if I wanted to keep it I said we have leftovers so no tonight we finished it all up if we hadn't it would have gone into the garbage... not sure now what we will have tomorrow do have some potato soup but not sure if it's enough for both of us have thought about going to the Chinese place and getting take out need to do it at lunch time though because it is cheaper then... only they don't give you the hot sour soup for take out and that is almost my favorite so will need to ask them if that is true... guess I could get a bowl of war won ton soup for mom and I could eat the potato soup it's really not one of my favorite Chinese dishes... although in true we could probably both eat it and still have left over's... another thing that is sounding good is Nacho's just not sure if mom would enjoy it that much...
you all have a great day

Barbie, the way I have held and cut nails for my kitties, both ones before and these two, and it may be different than you have heard. I am right handed. I use my small finger nail clippers. I sit on the edge of my bed. I sit them between my body and my arm. My left arm is over amd around them,(they can't back out because crook of my elbow is behind their butt) and left hand controls the legs, one at a time, by holding almost behind their elbow, because that prevents them straightening the leg and pulling away. My right hand controls the clipper. Because my left arm covers most of their body and my hand has their arm and foot, I can easily get to each toe. Look carefully for where the blood vessel is. Cut away from that a bit. My F2Savannah, my wild child, makes all kinds of verbal comlaint and fussing, but most of time holds still because she knows I'm boss and not letting go. Because I started when they were babies, complaints not withstanding, I'm always successful. Mandy the F4, so slightly less of a wild child, throws a ft and try's to wiggle away, but experience has shown her, I'm not going to let her get away with it. Years ago, Mel wanted to hold them for me, but this method works so much easier, so he put me in charge of nail trimming of the feline squad! If you want a photo, ill see if Chris can take a picture with me holding one for nails.
