Sunday, October 17

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday, October 17

What a revolting development, there is a football game in England on Sunday Morning. Guess I'll just have to watch the weather channel because there is nothing on.

Yesterday the registration for the truck came in the mail. It only took 6 weeks. I was getting ready to search the house again before I went to the DMV.

I went to pick up my new glasses and went to Walmart in Lafayette. I found a 3 1/2 pound piece of brisket. I put it in the slow cooker. The recipe says to cook it for 10 hours. I had already picked up chicken and mushrooms to try the recipe my brother sent. Guess this week I'll be eating chicken and brisket.

It was very cool in here last night because I never did turn on the heat. It got down to 51 outside and is only up to 56. Good sleeping weather. It's going to start warming back up to the 80's.

Good morning to all from Quartzsite, AZ - much to our surprise we got everything loaded up and on the road by yesterday morning. Just got the RV back Thursday afternoon after all the repairs from the stupid thieves. Uneventful drive. Some horrid pavement on I-40 for a few miles. And some wind in around the river.
Cold in here this morning, Bill just turned the furnace on. We discovered a few more things the thieves took. Our electric blanket, but the didn't take the controls. Also a couple of Bills gadgets. A special charger he had for his drones and a gauge that shows speed, altitude etc. I imagine we will find a few more things over the time. But they did give us a remote control to a Sony product...go figure.
We plan to do very short driving days this trip. So will be stopping at a few places we don't usually stop - IF there are RV spaces available for overnights.
So this years winter adventure begins.

Morning Martha, chilly here this morning too. I never turn on the tv until the evening. Don’t think I have watched daytime tv since Phil Donahue. :) Scrolling through the news headlines yesterday trying to find something to read that didn’t depress me or make angry was useless. Made me remember standing in the checkout line at the supermarket reading headlines on the trashy magazines. I do closely follow accu weather. Lol Going to follow Karen’s free day this morning and have an apple pancakes and sausage breakfast but a healthy dinner. Going to sit on the balcony even if I have to bundle up. Be safe

Carol, glad you were able to get on the road. Hope something doesn't show up on the road that the thieves caused. Have a safe trip.

Shirl, I usually don't put the TV on in the morning unless it's the weather but I like to watch the Sunday Morning program. Not a football fan or the daytime talk shows. I looked up a substitute for white wine in cooking and it says apple cider vinegar. I'm not sure I want to put that in my chicken. I need to get started on that or lunch is going to be late.

Good morning. I woke up at 4am, why I do not know. Laid around until about 4:30 then coffee was calling my name. Got the dog out, coffee in, and watched a little world news on tv, same old stuff. Got busy making dinner LOL at 6am I have a new Dutch Oven and wanted to try it out so I bought some top sirloin steaks the other day. Seared them in the dutch oven, made some gravy, added onions and seasonings. Popped them in the oven for about 3 hours. Going to make some mashed potatoes and have this for my lunch. Will then food saver them and should have a few do ahead dinners in the freezer. By now I am starving ha ha or think I am. So had scrambled egg, sliced tomato and 1 slice of toast. Under 350 calories. I am trying to keep total calories at 1500 or less but at least 1200. I only had 960 the other day and My Fitness Pal scolded me LOL Each meal 500 or less, so far working okay for me.

A bit of housekeeping chores this morning. Time to change the bed and vacuum and dust. That should do it for the morning. I am still trying to watch Heartland, I am still only on Season 3 but up to episode 13. Hey only 11 more seasons to go....will I make it...eventually. Think I will just relax this afternoon.

Chilly here this morning too 43 and will heat up to 59 but rain and wind is on the way, so they say. They say that alot but then it bypasses us so it just a look outside and see what it is doing.

Martha I wouldn’t want vinegar on my chicken either, I would use chicken broth/stock. I want to but an couple ice cube trays to freeze cubes of left over chicken stock. I have some tiny plastic containers but hate washing them. Lol Just read an interesting article on Yahoo about reducing belly fat. Will take some of their suggestions.

Ya well I’m a little late for the monthly check-in! But I did say Rabbits. September was a busy month and now October is half over. Some of you probably saw on Facebook that Bronc is involved in junior bronc riding. He won second at a local rodeo and went on to the state competition and placed second there. Got a belt buckle that is huge, and he insists on wearing it…. almost weights his pants down! He’s also playing junior league football, so he’s had a game once a week, so far, his team in undefeated. Seven of the players on his team are sons of the 2002 and 2003 Avon Pirates state championship teams. Probably more fun watching their dads watch their sons play…. especially when one of the kids ran for a touchdown in the wrong direction and scored for the other team! Haddie spends Thursday afternoon with me. She has decided that preschool is okay and says that she has learned everything (according to her…. even quantum physics!) Ashley and the kids went to Arizona last week to see her grandmother. Haddie was disappointed that she didn’t see God when she was above the clouds!

I managed to get through another August without getting pneumonia! Yey! That’s two years, the new allergy meds are working. I haven’t been doing anything exciting. Getting ready for winter. So far, I have most of my planters cleaned out and hope to finish today. We haven’t had a hard freeze and I just hate to let go of them but it’s easier than cleaning up a slimy mess after they freeze. Need to dig out my Halloween decorations. Pool is down which put Haddie in a tizzy because she was used to swimming on Thursday afternoons.

Made popcorn balls yesterday. Friday night at happy hour all of us ladies were talking about when we took our kids trick or treating. There was one lady who made the best popcorn balls and all of us admitted that we used to give our kids money for Lil’s popcorn ball! She is quite elderly now and lives in the local senior citizens apartments. I called her yesterday and asked if she would give me her recipe and told her how we used to con our kids out of her treat! She said sure come on over and I’ll dig it out. That lead to a 2-hour visit! I made them when I got home, and they turned out wonderful. Too bad that I already have bought 4 cases of Sunny D for trick or treaters…I quit buying candy bars because I usually ate more than I passed out, but the same could happen with popcorn balls.

I’m not going to comment on anyone’s adventures even though I do read the forum every night. Usually, late enough that I catch Sheila’s post! But I am afraid I will forget someone, and I don’t want to slight anyone! I'll make one exception. Sheila, Glad your mom is doing better. So, this is my long post with itty bitty news. Have a good week.

Carol, glad you made it to Q! Hope there are no more surprises! :o Good to take your time heading south.

Pat, they sure are teaching kids a lot at a young age now! Quantum Physics? I still can't figure that out! :? How old is Bronc now? Already competing in bronc riding?

Just about noon and still laying in bed! I was awake off and on all night. Am anxious about having to get up so early for work now! Been forever since I had to get up by 6am! Will be an adjustment for sure! But will be nice to get home by 4pm instead of 6:30. In reality, I was just wasting my mornings before by laying in bed until noon (like today  ) getting nothing done before heading to work, anyways. Just have to make sure I get to bed a lot earlier than I am used to.

Lola seems a bit perkier today so that's good. Like the rest of us, she has good and bad days.

Need to get up and get something done today.

Just read on FB that a good friend of mine and former CG's coworker back in MN got engaged last night. They were at a bar doing karaoke and he was singing a song to her and pulled out a ring, got on one knee while he was singing and then asked her to marry him! She has been waiting a long time for this! So happy for her!

Have a good one!

Made it to Fort Clinch SP yesterday, after a very nice lunch with Liz and Birdie! Great to talk RVs and camping.

Yesterday was hot and with no wind at all, which is very strange when you are on the Atlantic Ocean. After setting up, I went for a walk to check out the beach, but there were these little tiny bugs of some sort that kept biting me. Chatted with a couple of people, but had to head back to motorhome FAST! Big storm clouds in the north and west, and a long long of storms passed later that evening and gave us some rain. This also gave us wind today, coming out of the north, which cooled everything down to a high of 74 degrees today and made last night wonderfully cool. Got up in middle of night and turned off AC and opened a few windows--love the ocean breeze. Due for cool days and cooler nights for next couple of days, at least. Then low 80s, which is not too bad, especially if there is a breeze. This is a terrific state park, and I'll be here for two weeks. Ocean is just a short walk on the boardwalk over the dunes away, and my site backs up to more dunes.

Got a loaf of bread rising and as soon as I get it cooked, I am going to dig out all of my saved bottles for recycling and hike down to the dumpster to get rid of them. They have two dedicated small garbage containers with holes in the top for bottles. I save all bottles, and if one place does not have good recycling, I will just tuck them away in my basement and wait until I get to a place that DOES have good recycling! So today is the day to clean out the mess in storage.

Sheila, my mother was only 4'11" when she was in her 80s and 90s, so I also had problems with her and chairs. If you get a wheelchair for her eventually, make sure they fit her for it. Hope your siblings and kids step in to help you out with her care. Not fair that you should do it all by yourself.

Barb, Bronc is seven. The broncs he rides at his age are more "runners" than actual buckers! Although there are a few kicks. The pony that Ryan got him when he was two isn't rode anymore so he's gotten a quite ornery and Django is who Bronc practices on. The joke with Haddie and quantum physics is that every time I pick her up after preschool, I ask her what she learned today and she always says "everything" So I asked her if she learned quantum physics and she said yes.

When my boys were little there was a pony in the neighborhood that got passed from family to family as kids would out grow him. It's hard to find a pony that kids can control because they learn to take advantage of kids and they are too small for an adult to ride.

When I was in high school there was a stable nearby where you could rent horses. A couple of times friends of mine rented horse so they could ride with me. I was a pretty good rider and it was all I could do to control those horses. I don't know how they didn't kill somebody.

Barbie, did you see the alarm bed video I shared on Facebook. It starts shaking and throws you out of bed. I needed that when I had to get up for work.

I had a neighbor who got a pony for her 2 year old daughter and then she asked me to ride it for exercise. I rode Blacky every day! I used him to practice for my horse shows. He was the best horse ever and we formed a real bond and had so much fun together! A year later the lady got a larger pony for her daughter's 3rd birthday (she never rode the first one!) and Blacky got sent to some relatives in Wisconsin. Very sad day for me. :( I tried to ride the new one but she was ornery and tried to kill me one time  so I never rode her again.

Martha, I didn't see that video, but I am sure I will wake up every half hour tonight just in case, so I don't miss my alarm! I did already scope out a donut shop near work tho! Ooh, just remembered... I gotta find something to bring to work for lunch too! :o Better find something tonight and have it ready.

Didn't do much today. I did work on my Halloween gourd and it is almost done. Otherwise I just perused the internet all day and posted a bunch of memes on FB.

The wind is picking up tonight so I think I will be able to open my windows for a nice cool breeze.

John Muir, the founder of the Sierra Club, was a very interesting person. I can't remember why I had so much time, but a dozen or so years ago, I read his very long biography. He had a very difficult childhood and young adulthood working on his father's farm, but then managed to escape and attend the University of Wisconsin. While he was there, he apparently had trouble getting out of bed in the morning, so he invented a "clockwork desk" that not only woke him up in the morning, but caused his bed to tip him out on the floor. Also, while it gave him a few minutes to get dressed, it then started getting books out and opening them for study! The desk and bed are at the Wisconsin Historical Museum.

Here is an article describing it: https://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Records/Article/CS2641

After college, he worked at a variety of jobs, but injured his eye in 1867, so he decided to quit his job and walked 1,000 miles to Florida and traveled on to Cuba. He had planned to walk on to South America, but ended taking a boat to California, and hence went on to write his books about the Sierra mountains and Yosemite, another other western places.

Ir is Monday but I'm just now reading all the posts from Sunday. Pat, I always enjoy your posts especially hearing about Bronc and Haddie. It sounds as though they keep you entertained! I'm glad you found the popcorn ball lady and was able to visit with her and get the recipe as a result of the true confession at you happy hour.

Barbie good luck on getting up early and getting to work on time. Maybe a regular schedule will help with your sleep once you get used to it. I don't think I could survive on donuts or sugar stuff for breakfast I would be starved in an hour!

Judy I'm glad you were able to visit with Liz and Birdie. Between the three of you I'm sure there are enough experiences in being on the road that would make a good book!.

The stories about different experiences with ponies and horses brought back a lot of memories. I tried to trade my three day old baby brother for my favorite pony owned by the man down the street. I must have been born with a tendency to haggle. When he offered me Topsy for my brother I asked if I could also have the red saddle. When he affirmed I jumped down off the fence ( I was afraid of his dog) and ran home to tell my Dad the good news, Later on I found a birthday card that showed a boy and girl with a pony that looked a lot like Topsy and inside it said, I'm glad now I have you for my brother instead of a pony! OF course I sent it to him a long with the story I had written about the experience for one of my Creative Writing classes.
