Thursday October 7

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday October 7

Postby Redetotry » Thu Oct 07, 2021 7:57 am

Good Morning all, It doesn't seem possible that it is October but the month is moving right along. Yesterday morning I looked out and the trunk of my van was open. Thinking I had just hit the button on my keys by accident I just remotely shut it and didn't go out till almost eleven. Was I shocked!!! Both of our vehicles had been broken into! They went through everything and even took my vehicle registration and insurance cards, plus the Toyota handbook and all my repair receipts! In my van there is a kids seat that is removable and stores in a special place in the back, they took it!! I had a new sheep skin cover strip for the front seat, that was taken. They also took an extra sweatshirt and a few other items in a cloth bag but left two garbage sacks full of clothes I had ready to take to the thrift shop. I also had some money in a glasses case, it was in an almost invisible slit in the back but they found it. In all there was over $50. in various places. DH was missing his phone holder, a pair of glasses and his keys to a storage building!! He called them right away and they changed the code. The police notified the DMV about the registration card and they gave me a code I have to give them to renew. I had a large, very old cast iron wrench they didn't take. The cop looked at it and said is that yours? I said yes, if I ever get locked in I want a way out. I think he might have doubted that story because the next thing I said was, oh no they took my knife. He did ask if they found the person who did it if we wanted them arrested!? How can that even be an option!? I'm so surprised the dogs didn't bark or that i didn't hear them as my bedroom window was open a bit. To go through both cars and get that seat out must have taken a lot of time. Plys there is a motion detector light right in front of the cars. Mitzi was the one who had super hearing or else she just 'knew' when someone walked by. I hope today has no drama, I 'm going to need a nap.

Cloudy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:03 am

Morning from the 45th. Cloudy with a bit of fog. Rain showers on and off for the weekend. ThEy say we have lost 5 hours of daylight since July and will lose more as we head to the Winter solstice. But bright s is, that once we hit that mark, it’s all uphill from there. The squirrels are busy burying acorns all over my backyard, driving the dogs, especially Piper nuts  They to are preparing for the upcoming winter.

Shelia, so sorry to hear about your mom, but thankfully you were there. Your family is going to have some tough decisions to make. (((Hugs))),
Shirl, it’s nice that you ventured out for lunch. . One can only confine one’s self for so long and eventually you have to get back into the Main stream of life. Covid is always going to be with us in some form or other, just like the flu. So all one can do is take precauctions and go about life. As to eating out alone, I do it all the time and I see a lot of other ladies eating alone too.

I’m hobbling around on a sore foot. Somehow or other, I got a couple bones in my foot out of place. Chiropractor treated me on Wednesday, but said comeback next week if needed. Am using my Walker in the house to keep weight off for now. And naturally I have a bunch of things needing done. Dogs are tracking leaves in cause I need to get the yard cleaned up, can’t really run the vac right now, I was hoping to clean up the leaves today in front and back before the rain moves in tonight. Starting to sound like Martha here  My new bagger system arrived yesterday and neighbor installed it. Happy about that. Barbie, I had a feeling that something was up where you are working. Too much hour reductions, closed on some days etc, gave me the drift the owner didn’t really care about the business and changes were coming. Hopefully for the better. Good luck on your interview.

Took the dogs and headed north on Tuesdsy for my UP fix. Went to some areas I haven’t been to in a long time. Did about 270 miles by the time we got home, but it felt good to be on the open road especially now that the summer crunch is over. Saw some pretty fall color and ours here will be putting in a show about next week I figure.

Neighbors next door liked the results of my forestry mulching project, that they had him do theirs yesterday. They are the ones who bought my old house. Really looks nice and you can see the beautiful birch trees that were growing in all the scrub now. We had him open up about a quarter of the back property line. Said we aren’t picky about crossing the line. Same with the couple buying my lot. We have a pretty good fix on the lot line, but aren’t worried about a few inches either way. The guy that did the mulching said some people get upset if he knocks one fern down across the line, Sheesh. The paperwork for the lot is in the hands of the title company, so just waiting on that now.

Enough jabbering for the morning. You all have a nice dsy and stdy safe

Morning All, Island weather is back to very humid again and will be for a few. Sue, ouch, hope your bagging system solves the leaf problem. Bj, you have stressful news too. Sheila’s Mom being in the hospital is sad news too. Frustrating news in my family. I told the tale of #2 granddaughter losing the sale of her house and the one she was buying on the day of settlement. Dumb system that you have to wait until settlement day to know for sure if sale will go through. Well, she bought another house, sold hers and settled Wednesday. Got to the new house and seller only gave her key to door knob, not the deadbolt. Called a locksmith. She had only Wednesday to move and work the next day. Slept on an air mattress that night. Next day found the house is a wired smart house controlled by Alexa who is still managed by the seller. Geeezzz! Creepy! Life is getting more complicated. No wonder people no longer have common sense, their brains are in their smart phones. :) Be safe

P.S. Martha, I loved cutting grass, riding on the mower but hated weed eating trim.

Mornin' ladies~
BJ sorry to read about your the break -ins to the vehicles. Such a shame that even your own driveway isn't safe. Be thankful they didn't come for the catalytic converter. That's a big repair and the vehicles can't be driven until replaced.

Shirl~ Glad to see you were out and about for a bit. Fresh air does a body good.

On a sad note, Dad was laid to rest yesterday at Abe Lincoln National Cemetary with full military honors, rifle volley (12 shots) and Taps. He passed on the 1st once he was actually in comfort care. He'll be missed by alot of people.

So far I'm still planning on winterizing the trailer and have found an inside storage place. His house has 50 years of stuff. Now I know where my sister got her 'save everything gene' from. This is going to take a while. Still going back and forth on keeping our selling the house. It needs major updating. Welcome to the 70s!

Have a good day and enjoy Fall of your not soggy from rain.

Oh, BJ, that's terrible! And sad! You didn't mention any damage ... I hope that's the case. And that your insurance company covers all the losses.

Cheryl, thinking back, I realize it was a good thing that my mom had already downsized, with my sister's and my help, long before going in the nursing home and passing. Make the right decision for you as to keeping or selling. And don't rush deciding since you don't need to.

Haha, looking at the 10 day forecast, my next day off, next Tuesday, will be rainy and snowy, high mid 30's and low in the teens. I doubt, other than taking Ty out as needed, that I'll do anything that day.

Time to walk Ty and think about heading to work.

I've got my doctor appt and dermatology appt scheduled for when I stop in Benson. Short stop. Confirmed that I can arrive mid-November at the park in Texas instead of late December. I'll head to Karen's for about a week mid March, then back here by April first. And there's my schedule lol.

I bought a 6 inch pie like/ramekin for use in my little air fryer. Ha, they don't measure the lip, which takes it to a tad over 6 1/2 inches and thus it doesn't fit. Grrrr. I have 2 smaller ramekins so will make the chicken pot pie recipe I have as 2 baby pies and see how it turns out. Maybe I'll do that next Tuesday! And now I have to remember to return this ramekin or save it for use at the casita with the bigger air fryer.

Hi ladies!

Cheryl, I agree with Beth on the house. Although my parents were pack rats, it took time to empty the house, sell things and divide items between siblings.

BJ, I'm so sorry for the vehicle break ins. Stuff like that is such a pain in the butt and hope your insurance company works with you.

We're having friends from church over tomorrow for a mid afternoon lunch that Steve will prepare on his Big Green Egg, a barbecue grill. He's made many wonderful meals on it already and know tomorrows will be just as good.

Good morning!

Wow, lots of not so good and/or sad news on here. Puts my frustrating week into perspective.

Sheila, so sorry about your mom. Hoping you can all find a place that works for her. BJ, having a vehicle or home broken into is so upsetting. Sorry you have to deal with it. Cheryl, I'm sure the service for your dad was beautiful. I always joke my kids should thank me for getting rid of most everything so they don't have to - not that it's all gone. :D

It's a cool, sunny day so will wait until about 1 to go for a ride. I got a message last night my lamp is at the post office. Didn't know they sent it yet and expected it to come by anything other than USPS. My oldest niece announced to the family that she's pregnant with her first! She may be the best prepared new mom on the planet as she has helped with siblings and then nieces and nephews.

Hoping you all have a good day from here on!

Sheila, sorry to hear your mom fell. If they put her in rehab will family be able to see her? One of my neighbors was just put in a nursing home. She just turned 100 not long ago. There aren't many people left that still know her and they won't let anyone see her.

BJ, sorry your cars were broken into. Hope they didn't cause any damage. What do they think they are going to do with the registration card, change to title to your vehicle? I don't lock my car at home. If someone wants to steal some of the junk in there have at it. About the most valuable thing in there would be a bag of cat food. I worry about someone stealing the catalytic converters but so far we haven't had any problems on our road. For some reason my neighbors are more worried than I am. They have a security system and lock up every time they leave. I would like to have cameras but mostly to see what the cats are up to at night. Not many nights that there isn't a fight on the front porch. Years ago after Hurricane Rita my sister and I were cleaning out the old house. A deputy stopped by to make sure we weren't looters. I told him that if he found any to send them over.

Sue, hope your foot feels better. Seems like I'm at an age that something always hurts. I'm trying to take care of my knees. I would be in a mess if I had to have a knee replacement. At least I don't have to worry about leaves. Around here most trees stay green all year. When my son lived in New Jersey his neighbor hood had so many trees that they piled the leaves along the street and the city had trucks that vacuumed them up. I noticed when I was mowing that the grass around the big oak tree was dead. My neighbor must have sprayed around there. I don't really want poison around that tree.

Cheryl, I saw the pictures of your dad's military funeral on Facebook. When my son died I said I couldn't plan another funeral. He was proud of his military service so somehow I managed to do what I had to do so he could have a military funeral.

BJ, That’s horrible about your car break in! And the cops asking if you wanted them arrested!?!? Gads, what’s this country coming to!
Many years ago I read a book on Preparing For Divorce. It said “learn to eat alone in a restaurant “. Good advice. And NOT read a book! I have since learned to do lots of things alone and enjoy them.

good morning to all - the weather in Vegas has finally cooled down, in fact they are predicting snow on the mountain next week and lows in the valley of low 50's.
Sheila so sorry to hear about your mom. Hope your family steps up to help so you can get on your way. You need the rest.
We are still waiting for parts for the RV - repairs the thieves made necessary. We hope they come soon as we are getting ready to go south asap. BJ if you say you want the thieves arrested you will probably get a Subpoena to appear in court. We did for the appearance of the thieves who stole our RV.
Went to Costco today for first time in years, was surprised at how short the lines were, hardly any one there.
Stay healthy and safe every one.

Years ago, while still a young woman, I learned that if I wanted to wait until I had someone to do something with, I would likely never get to do it. Whatever "it" might be.

Have pretty much done things on my own ever since (even when I was married! I wanted to visit Vermont in the autumn, ex-husband was dead set against it. The solution? I went by myself anyway and had an absolutely FABULOUS adventure).

As for eating alone at restaurants? Sheesh, I have been doing that - with pleasure - since I was in my 20's. Still would do so, if it were not for the ongoing plague.

Thanks for the heads up Carol on the possibility we may be subpoena if they make an arrest for stealing from our car, it's not like we saw them! But.. I would like to see them arrested as I'm sure this wasn't their first break in. They didn't miss anything. As to insurance we have a high deductible so that won't cover anything. So annoying and it gives me a creepy feeling that someone was in my car.

Sheila I'm so sorry to hear your Mom fell. I hope your family can all help and thatashe heals soon.

I guess I never paid too much attention what girls were supposed to do. I had two brothers and we shared chores and I've never hesitated to go places alone. I was married for 11 years and we lived on a farm, I hated it so I saved my money and left. After that I lived alone for almost 20 years and really enjoyed myself. I had a really nice trailer in a college area with a Standard Poodle. Occasionally I would have a roommate just so I wouldn't get too set in my ways!

Sounds like we are all having a bad start to October here. :(

Sheila, I hope your mom can recover fully.
BJ, that is so disturbing to know someone was ransacking your cars right under your nose! They sound like professionals for sure!
Sue, I hope your foot heals quickly. I am sure you want to get back to all your projects!

My day sucked too. I went to the urgent care place to get tested but they were booked up for that until late afternoon. Then stopped at the gas station to get gas since I didn't have enough to get to work and to the interview and back home. My debit card was declined! I went back home to look at my checking account. One of my auto bill pays came thru today instead of on Friday (always come thru on the 9th of every month) and overdrew my account. I don't get paid until tomorrow so I had no money to buy gas. I was able to borrow $15 from my neighbor but that would only get me to one place or the other. By now it was almost 10am so I decided the interview was much more important to get to than work, so I called into work and said I would be in tomorrow. I called my friend Candiss and cried on her shoulder for a bit. Then headed out and stopped for gas before going to the interview. It lasted all of 5 minutes! The place is huge and much more machinery doing things rather than by hand. I guess they have a lot of people coming in for interviews and I won't know until probably Monday if I get a job offer. I was really hoping I would know today. The golf cart repair guy was here when I got home. He said all my batteries are toast. :( He said he could charge them up for me for $250  but couldn't guarantee how long they would stay charged. I can't afford that or to get 6 new batteries so am thinking of just selling it as is. I need to clean it up this weekend first.

I went in and laid down around 3:30pm. I woke up thinking it was the middle of the night but wondered why my blinds were still up and then realized I was still dressed! It was 7:30pm! I was all set to roll over and go back to sleep until I saw what time it was! I guess stress will do that to a person. Nothing stresses me out more than money issues.

Beth, how much longer do you have with this job? I forgot to check in with Linda today. Will have to send her a text here. (Oh, and I missed my Covid test this afternoon as well  Will have to try to get in tomorrow morning at the drive thru place at the fair grounds instead.

Shirl, I am going to see if I can catch that Ghost show here shortly. Will let you know how I like it. It comes on here in an hour.

Hoping for a much better day tomorrow for all of us...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
