First Monday in October

Morning all. Cloudy with rain showers to my south, heading out. Supposed to see peaks of sun and beautiful weather for next few days. Tina, maybe you should have come north, enjoy sunshine and fall colors to boot. Last nights rain brought a lot of leaves down but there’s lots left. The squirrels are busy scurrying around gathering acorns and giving Piper fits. She chases them up trees and of course they only go so far and stay just out of reach,

I hear you gals on the smoke alarms. Mine are battery operated and the one just outside my bedroom door is really sensitive. It goes off at the slightest littlee whiff of whatever I am frying on the stove, so sometimes I just take it down till I’m done. Doesn’t matter if the vent fan is going or not  But I don’t Fry much, so it’s no biggie. Need to get a new carbon monoxide doctor though.

My cold is gone, just the last bits still letting go. Woke up with a big nose blowing, coughing spell about 3 a.m. this morning  Hope that’s the last of that. I usually alway have a lingering cough for a week or two after. That’s good, cause one doesn’t want fluid in the chest.

So yesterday I ran the vac, cleaned my bathroom and kitchen and relaxed some too. Took the dogs for a walk and got into a leaf blowing session before the rains came. My new bagger system still has not appeared, but neighbor told me yesterday, that he will do the leaves with his :D . Mine will appear someday. Like everybody else, just have to wait.

Heading off to the title company in awhile to take up the Purchase agreement and the escrow check from the neighbors. Then just wait while the process moves along. I don’t think it will take long, being vacant land, no buildings etc. I have free and clear title etc., so should be cut and dried. What I do with the rest of the day remains to be seen. Too wet to really do much outside

So best quit sitting here and gabbing. Hope you all have a nice day. So glad to hear Linda is up and moving around. Scary stuff indeed. I think of her often, though I have never met her, we have chatted on here in past years. Beth, is that motel you are working at and will manage next summer, open year around?

Morning Sue, glad you are feeling better. Cloudy, humid and a rainy week ahead. Caught up with several phone calls yesterday and was too late to use the crockpot. Today will try again with crockpot soup. Sheila, I had to search the ?? Cooking device you mentioned ( can’t remember how to spell it) lol. Sounds delicious but too much work for this lazy cook. Son called and he bought a box of my favorite Winesap apples and he wants to share, Bless his little puddin heart. I see apple crisp in my future. Just putzing around with inside chores. Be safe

Good morning. It is cool, damp and foggy here right now. Didn't remember how much fog we got up here last year. Where I was before we never got too much altho Medford about 10 miles away always got lots. I can live with the fog as opposed to the super hot sun. Will warm up to 73 today and rain is in our future YAY dont know how much but will take whatever we can get. Predicting snow showers in the mountains here. I do miss looking at Mt Ashland all covered with snow. Not much to see here. I do love the cooler weather. I LOVE fall. But it will pass way too quickly I know. Got my sweat pants and sweat shirt on, second cup of coffee, yup life is good.

Already been on Amazon....they left me an ironing board here but needs new little rubber feet and a new cover otherwise should work fine for my small amount of ironing I do. I did buy an iron last year but haven't used it yet LOL LOL Probably wont use it for a while as winter clothes never need ironing in my house, but my cotton summer shirts and capris will need it after being tucked away until next year.

Going to make the potato soup today so I will report back my review of it ha ha Also want to make the blackberry cobbler recipe my friend gave me. A good recipe she says and easy of course. I made a blueberry one but I did not like it one bit. I ordered the blackberries online as nobody had any in store. And I really want to try her recipe.

Breakfast will be a BLT and will cook extra bacon for the soup.

Not much going on here. I burned some trash when I went to feed the cats and forgot to bring the trash can in. That happens a lot. I can make a trip out to get it and forget what I went after. I have been putting limbs in the burn cage and they aren't burning very fast. One of my friends had a rechargeable chain saw at one of the campouts. I need to ask her if it is any good. I should cut the limbs in smaller pieces so they will drop to the bottom and burn. Grass has taken over about 4' of the rose bed and I pull grass every time I go out until I get too hot. One of the motion activated solar lights on the carport fell down. Need to find some zip ties and put that back up. I don't like to leave the porch light on if I know I will be home after dark and let people know I'm not home. The solar light lets me see to get in.

I peeled some potatoes and made mashed potatoes this morning because my potatoes were getting wimpy. I hate to throw food away. I'll have to find something in the freezer to go with the potatoes for lunch. I want to go to the post office but doubt I will get moving before this afternoon.

Good Morning, I am house and dog sitting for the BF and Val while they are in Colorado. His home has a nice view of the harbor. As cruise ships are beginning to go in and out I can see them. Saw the huge Disney ship leave. That is my excitement.
So glad to get the report on Linda. Thanks Barbie.
Tina, looking forward to how your camping trip goes. Big new step for you.
Lyn

Aebelskivers are round pancakes that look like large donut holes. You can fill them with different fillings, fruit, etc., or just plain and pour syrup over them.

here is the pan you make them in

Thanks Barbie, they look so good. I know I would like them but can’t even pronounce the name. Would mean buying another pan, but they do look so good.

P.s
Just checked Amazon, pan too pricey for just one person.

We had such fun yesterday. A friend, who loves to drive, came by in her really nice new truck and picked us up. We drove up into foothills to historic town of Auburn, about 20 miles away. Went to the old Auburn cemetery, where the Placer County Museum Society, was doing their annual old cemetery tour. They had authentically costumed people representing local residents from 1800's, doing presentations /talks about their lives in Auburn, near where they were buried. Very interesting and a nice walk under the beautiful huge shade trees. Family plots bordered by cement walls, gave a place to sit and rest and listen. My favorites were Nurse Gomes, Who cared for Spanish flu victims , Alma Bell , who shot her boyfriend , and the infamous Rattlesnake Dick! All buried there, and all very interesting. The historical society amd museum people were there, along with beautifully restored cars typical of what the various people represented drove, as well as the restored hearse. An interesting, fun afternoon!
My week, as usual, begins with Curves and treadmill. Today may be our last 90° of the season, but it's smoky bad air today, so won't be out enjoying tail end of summer.
Have a good day all.
Velda

Just got a call from the employment agency and I have an interview with the cannabis company on Thursday at 1:45. Yay! I will have to work my current job in the morning that day to get my hours in.

Kind of overcast here today with a little sun peeking out occasionally. Supposed to be getting cooler this week! If next weekend is in the 80's like predicted, I will spend it outside and in the porch getting that all cleaned up for the winter. Some of the snowbirds are already starting to arrive. There is a huge, brand new diesel pusher ($$$) down the street here that just came in. I want my place to look really nice when people walk and drive by. :D

Just heard from Linda. She will be going home tomorrow! Yay!

Shirl, it is pronounced "able skeever". The pans are cast iron so that is probably why they cost more.

"...along with beautifully restored cars typical of what the various people represented drove..."
Velda, people in the 1800's had cars??

Been trying to get a lot of loose ends done today. Visited a very nice memory care facility in Athens, GA, yesterday but was gone all day because I had to stop at Target and get some closet organizing stuff for my aunt. Also, I called A Place for Mom and lady sent me two referrals. She also woke me up at 8 am yesterday and each of the two referred people sent me an email, called and left a message, and then also sent me a text message!! What a pain, so I sent email to lady at A Place for Mom and said to tell any referrals to do ONLY ONE of those things, and that doing all three within a few minutes is harassment, NOT good customer service.

As you might guess, I am looking at other places for my aunt in case we cannot solve the problems with her current place. We are unhappy with the care recently, and have been asking for two months for someone to wake her around 5 am to take her to the bathroom. She has fallen three times with one emergency room visit in the last three months because she has to get up to use the bathroom in the early morning and is half-awake. FINALLY, when I visited, I got them to put her on the list they keep for waking patients up. We are paying a lot of money, much more than most memory care places, and think they should do what they say they will do. One day, she is going to be seriously hurt with these falls.

Am on Lake Lanier northeast of Atlanta, so trying to get some personal things done as well. I do have a rental car until Friday, so will also be visitng a few memory care facilities. Got to run and dump my tanks right now before it starts raining again!!

Judy, I hope you can find a better facility. I lucked out when my sister and I selected the nursing home for my mom and because she was on hospice all the time there, they kept the nursing home staff on their toes also.

I'm about to walk Ty then disconnect my rig to go into town and get my propane filled. Nights next week are predicted in the teens so I don't dare run out!

Barbie, good luck with the interview. Hopefully it'll be full time and better money, too.

Facebook is down! What am I going to do with all my extra time.

I just got back from town. I looked for potatoes o-brien and couldn't find them at two stores. I'll have to look in Lafayette.

Judy, hope you can find a better place for your aunt. It is aggravating the service the patients get for the money it costs.

Barbie, thanks for the update on Linda. I think about her often and hope she is getting better. I should probably call the hospital and see if they are giving booster shots. My last shot was in March so I'm eligible for the booster. Since the snowbirds are coming back maybe you will get more requests for hair cuts.

Martha I went to 3 stores, finally googled them and found Walmart had them, maybe yours does too.

Yes Facebook is down not sure why but apparently there is a widespread outage.

Making the soup tomorrow as I remembered I had left over London broil in the fridge so will eat that up and finish cleaning out my fridge.

Facebook is coming back on slowly. They aren't saying what happened but there is a lot of speculation since it happened so soon after the 60 Minutes interview last night with Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen. You can see it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Lx5VmAdZSI

Judy I always wanted to visit Lake Lanier. How do you like it? I had the idea it was very pretty there.

Good luck with the interview Barbie!

I was on the computer this morning with no success trying to extend my medical cannabis card. It is a state government site and they are notoriously difficult and confusing. I have to add a passport size picture of myself in a jpeg format. I have no idea how to do that because since my computer was upgraded to Mac OS Big Sur the photo page changed completely. There is no other option other than extending online! I have no idea how people without a computer or people who don't have a lot of computer experience are going to renew their card. It is legal in Illinois but you can buy other products at the medical sites and you also can order online and pickup curbside.

My order of a pretty LeCreuset ceramic baking dish arrived from Sierra Trading Post in a huge box with no packaging other than a small amount of bubble wrap around it and of course it was broken. I was pleasantly surprised that they will send me a replacement without returning the broken one. Of course calling and reaching a person took a long time. After that I decided it was time for lunch and a glass of wine.

I love Lake Lanier, but there are several campgrounds here. My favorite is Old Federal, and I have stayed here often, first because my aunt and uncle lived a bit north of here, and since then because it is so pretty and such a good deal for the federal senior price of $13 per night for electric and water, paved sites, and all sites on the water. Old Federal Campground is on the southern shore and consists of several peninsulas. My favorite site, 45, is at the base of one of the peninsulas where it is narrow. The result is that I have views out of the front and both sides of the lake. Also, only a couple hundred feet to rest rooms and laundry--cost of laundry is 75 cents per load! A real bargain overall, so I try to stay here whenever I go to or from Florida.

Oh, and small tree is first photo has a bluebird nest, so lots of bluebirds flitting about!
