Friday July 30

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday July 30

Morning All, my county was under a tornado watch yesterday for 6 hours. Living near water does strange things weather wise. I moved things off the balcony but didn’t even get a drop of rain. Still very humid and it is the weekend so will stay home. I stopped at my banks ATM for the first time in years. My gray hair and wrinkles makes me feel like a target. Then there is the chance someone has attached a device and will steal my millions. I have been cashing checks at the drive through window but yesterday I didn’t have a check. I read not to carry a checkbook. I’m not wearing an aluminum foil hat but getting close. Need to find something to amuse my paranoid self. Be safe

Good morning Shirl. I rarely use the ATM but when I do I make sure it is either inside (like a store) or in a totally obvious area with some traffic around. I dont like the ones that are tucked in back, nope. I usually draw out enough money so that I dont have to go very often. I deposit all my occasional checks I get on my phone app. Easy peasy.

Entering a HOT weekend here, triple digits, ugh. And people wonder why fall is my favorite season ha ha Not much yard work to do, just some tidying up of the old plants then done. I get to wear a sweatshirt in the morning. I like spring also but for me that is the most work. Readying my planters for spring plants. Getting containers for tomatoes ready. And then there is cleaning the house and sorting out the stuff I have saved but never use LOL So donation time. Actually it is time to do that now as I started with one junk drawer sorta in the kitchen and now I have 3...................maybe today.

Breakfast was sausage and muffin and some raspberries. That should hold me until lunch. Time to close all the windows and doors, shut the blinds, go back to my black hole of Calcutta so the heat doesnt invade my space.

Shirl, I lived on a large lake in MN. The bad storms heading my way would split just before they got to the lake and go around the lake, so we got missed by a lot of storms because of that. Also, tornadoes tended to follow rivers rather than cross over them. Something about water that affects their path, for sure.

Karen, have you gotten a lot of tomatoes so far this summer off your plants?

My shoulder and my left wrist are in a lot of pain today. I wore my wrist brace over night but it is still sore. Not fun.

Supposed to be rain and possible thunderstorms moving thru here later today. We'll see... Yesterday was windy and hot!! 116*. Will be cooler this weekend in low 100's and then back up to upper teens next week again. August is the worst month of the summer. Yay! Not!

Got my paycheck for a full two-week period and it looks pretty good. Am pleasantly surprised! Still have to be careful with my money but at least I have a little breathing room.

No plans for the weekend other than try to get some cleaning and organizing done. Will have to be careful with my shoulder tho.

I got my masks yesterday and they are very comfortable. I like that they stay off my nose. The cloth ones tickle my nose and make it itch all the time.

Have a good day!

Good morning, everyone.

Barbie, hope your wrist & shoulder pain eases.
Since moving out here, I don't even have checks for my local bank account. I still use my KS bank for daily expenses & have gone totally online for most transactions. I usually just pull out cash when I make other purchases - and even with that, I rarely have cash on hand anymore.
Judyb, totally understand how good it feels when the grands come & then go.

I finally have a week off grandma duty. Kids left for Hawaii yesterday. Dropped them at the tiny Long Beach airport then went for a walk on the nearby beach. Not many people out there so I loved it!

20-year-old granddaughter from TX left on Wed after spending a week here. I agree with the others, I like/need my private space. Some visitors are easier than others. She doesn't communicate very much & I had a tough time figuring out what she wanted to eat/do/etc. I'm also happy to not have the litle ones for a few days & get my place back in order. I love them like crazy, but I'm just tired & look forward to having a bit of freedom when Olivia is back in school & Jordi starts preschool in January.

Temps in the upper 80's this week here. Love that I have windows open overnight & fans pulling in the cool air. Just about time to close things up now like the rest of you.

Stay cool

Fun Times

Postby WickedLady » Fri Jul 30, 2021 2:18 pm

Went horseback riding on the beach with new friend met at laundromat. Had not ridden in decades but other than butt bones being soar was fine. Next time will ask for horse with better gait :D We go to cape Disappointment state park every-other Saturday evening for the Music in the Park program. Putt Putt golf is a blast! Might do Go-Carts.

Weather has been cooler than normal...60s/50s but no rain.

Morning is gone and I have done nothing - one of those days. We are also into triple digits again. Rain is predicted Sunday, but I won't hold my breath. I am so grateful this apartment stays pretty cool so I'm not running a/c all the time. Catherine, glad you are getting a break. BFF still has little grandchildren and a day at a time wears her out. Barbie, my shoulder was very sore and then I realized I hadn't used the Icy Hot. Hope you get some relief.

When I was staying in the RV park at the fairgrounds, rent was due once a week. I finally ordered a few checks because there was a fee for using a credit card.

I listed the Sling trailer on FB yesterday and got it sold. Last of the big items. Have some RV things that need to go.

Everyone have a good weekend.

I worked this morning. We're now getting rain, heavy rains, pretty much daily. Feast or famine! It started raining shortly before I got off work and slowed down, so I walked briskly home. Good thing because the thunder lightening and heavy rains came quickly after. As I'm writing this it seems to have stopped. Maybe I should get Ty out quickly before it starts up again.

I'm doing special projects a lot now as we don't have a lot of bookings. Today I took the curtains from a room and washed, dried and rehung them. The managers want to take a look before I continue doing all of them. I think they look great. So probably will be doing them all.

Anita, glad you've been able to sell all the big ticket items. And so quickly!

I need to write checks for my annual expenses at my Escapees park. Luckily I get free checks because otherwise I don't write any anymore. And I rarely use ATM's. When I'm low (well almost completely out) of cash I do into a grocery or Walmart and use my bank card for a purchase and get cash back. I'm thinking it's been forever since I've done that (as I've only been in stores a very few times since Covid started). Obviously I don't use cash much anymore!

My chance of getting Ty out seems to have ended .. rain on my roof again. I'll have to be fast next time.

There is a reason we have kids when we are young!

Horseback riding on the beach sounds like a lot of fun! I want to do that someday!

I also dread what the next couple months will bring here with temps. Those of you up north of me are getting what we usually get here in the desert so I understand why you are miserable. It is really humid outside here today! Hard to breathe! We usually don't get humidity until August but it has been humid all summer this year. When I turn my AC up to 79 or 80 in here it starts getting really stuffy in here. If I keep it down around 76 or so, it feels much more comfortable.

Beth, you must be getting the monsoon weather that is supposed to get here later. I hope we get a little more rain.

Last weekends rain sure helped our corn crop here!

Good evening from MD ladies!

Anita, so glad you sold your slingshot trailer! Beth, hopefully the rain has stopped so you could get Ty out. Barbie, I love the corns pics! For just about the rest of you, we don't have an ATM card and just carry cash with us. I've heard horror stories both ways, but so far, so good.

We also have good news and after not advertising our property for sale, we accepted an offer after one counter-offer and the contract is already written up and since Habitat for Humanity is coming and my piano will be donated to our MD church on Aug. 10th, settlement will be after that date and before we leave for FL on the 26th of Aug. Our home is almost empty and someone stops by almost everyday when we're there to buy something else. I am looking so forward to becoming a minimalist after getting rid of all this crap.

Have a good night, gals! I think I might have one, too.

Wow! Irmi, that is awesome! Congrats! Everything is falling into place for you two!

I can hear thunder off in the distance and the sky is black coming over the mountains behind me. Hopefully, we will get another good dumping of rain here soon! Maybe get a bigger crop of corn too!

I sure wish we would get rain! Clouds pass over, but nary a drop! And yes we are whining over weeks of 100° plus weather. Barbara, curious, when you say it's humid, what is the reading? It's been averagng 22-25% here.

With all the rains here the humidity, right now, is upper 70 percent, and over 50 percent inside. Luckily our temps dropped with the rains, but this isn't normal here. That said, the area drastically needs all this moisture so I'm ok with it even if I complain lol

Velda, I love how your handing things with Mandy.

Irmi, awesome news about the house. Amazing how so much we thought we absolutely could never let go of becomes a sigh of relief when we finally do.

Ty and I got wet on our walk after my last post. We went out as soon as there was a break in the rain, but at our short turn around point, the rains came back. Oh, did I get a dirty look from Ty. Lol Not long ago we got a decent walk in. It appears the rain is done for today but periodic thunderstorms are predicted again for tomorrow afternoon and again Sunday afternoon.

WOW Irmi that is great news. Soon to be off on another chapter in your lives. Apparently Medford and Grants Pass, just south of me by about 70miles got hammered today from lightning and hail and rain. How in the world do you get hail when it is so friggin hot. Of course there were multiple lightning fires started but most were small and contained quickly. Except for northern CA (the real Northern California, like on the Oregon?CA border) A bit larger one started over by Trinity on the western side of CA and they are still trying to contain it. Storms moved easterly so we got nothing as usual. But it was a little cloudy and smoky today. We only had 29% humidity but heck I stayed inside today.

Marda, music in the park and horseback riding on the beach sounds like lots of fun. They have music in the park here every week but it is always at night and I dont like to be out at night. I like being all tucked in my recliner LOL Going to go to the Umpqua Valley outdoor market tomorrow morning early, well 9am cause that is when it opens ha ha just to see what kind of fresh fruit and veggies I can pick up. They always have goodies there too hee hee

I don't have an ATM card and refuse to have a debit card. I'm still in the horse and buggy cash days. A lot of restaurants have started adding the credit card fee if you use a credit card so I alway pay cash at a restaurant. I don't eat out often so no big deal. It's a good thing I had some credit cards just in my name when Harold passed away because they canceled all of his cards even if I was also on there. My credit is frozen so I can't even get a credit card unless I unfreeze my credit. My son did it and I'm not sure I even have all the information I would need to do that. The only card I would like to have is a Walmart card but I can live without it. I have a VISA card that I use to get gas when I'm traveling and I won't let them raise the limit over $1,000 in case that gets hacked. We live ins scary times with so many people trying to take our money.

Irmi, great news about your house. I know you are glad to be almost done with all that.

I am always glad when company leaves. My grandson doesn't communicate very well either. He won't eat what I cook but won't tell me something that he would eat. He takes one of those bags like P F Chang frozen food and cooks the whole bag which is enough for 2 or 3 people. He picks out what he wants to eat and then dumps the rest of it in the trash. His dad would let him do that. I only see him for a few days at a time so I don't tell him anything. I would still be dancing if my dad had caught me throwing that much food away.

When I woke up this morning I started sneezing and my nose was running. I took some sinus medicine but that didn't slow my nose down. I have been walking around with a box of kleenex. I think it must be sinus because my teeth hurt. I think I'll take some NyQuil when I get ready to go to bed. I washed a load of towels and a bath mat and I'm still fighting with the washer to get them dry enough to put in the dryer. I hate that washer. When a load is unbalanced it puts more water and tries to spin. I think that would go on all night if I let it. The next time I buy a washer I'm getting the cheapest one they have. All I need is time, temperature and water level.

Barbie, I hope your corn crop is sweet corn. lol
