Saturday ~ National Peach Ice Cream Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday ~ National Peach Ice Cream Day

Postby IrishIroamed » Sat Jul 17, 2021 6:11 am

Mornin' ladies~

Ice cream for breakfast anyone? :) Maybe when I was a kid.

Staying semi busy at Camp Dad's Driveway. He's doing really well with rehab, but ortho doc said still no weight bearing. He will be coming home on the 25th, so I've been busy getting thingsfor him. He's currently 75% functional but is recommended he have 24 hour care for the time being. He actually had 2 pelvic fracture.

Looks like I'm definately here for the long haul. Found an inside storage place for the camper so at least I don't have to buy a cover. Have an appointment for October 18th for winterizing. Imay sell the trailer next year. Not sure yet, but I can't see keeping it stored for years.

Not looking forward to Chitown winters. Especially driving a pick up.

That's my itty bitty news. Stay safe from heat that's coming again.

Cloudy morning here, The rain wasn't bad here yesterday but about 35 miles away they had 9.1" of rain in ONE hour! They said water was 2 feet deep on the roads! Checked on my friend visiting her daughter in Germany and she wasn't in an area that flooded. Crazy!! Wasn't there something that happened in space that they think is causing the flood?

Cheryl I'm so sorry your plans have been put on hold. I had indoor heated storage for my van and it was really convenient. I always had to pay for someone to winterize it so the heated storage eliminated that! Chicago will be a challenge in a pick-up truck! Sending hugs to you and your Dad.

Oh, yeah. 8-) Come to Mama!

I like these for breakfast (post continues below photo):

OMG. Sooo good.

I got started on these cone things ("Great Value" is a Walmart brand) after the recent "French Toast" thread. I don't much like eggs - never have - just the smell of them cooking in the pan does a number on my stomach. Same with the smell of French Toast cooking. Just. . . ewwww.

But. . . what with the eggs, and the milk (or cream?) and the grease or butter (for frying the toast in the pan) and the sugar-syrup poured over the French Toast result - how different could a nice ice cream cone possibly be in the bad-for-you department? Add to that the chocolate component, and now we are talking .

Let me tell you: ice cream for breakfast is mighty FINE.

Yum.

Cheryl, I would rather drive a pickup over a car in wi ter anytime. They ride higher, I think they handle better and if thry are 4 wheel drive, their stability on slippery roads is better. I have auto 4 wheel drive as well as regular 4 wheel drive on my truck. I drive in the auto mode most of the time in winter, as it senses the road and if it feels a tire starting to slip, it automatically stops it. I use 4 wheel low on icy roads as it keeps the rear of the truck from possibly sliding around in turns etc. But then I don’t have very icy roads that you get in the cities, because we have more snow, so I’m driving snow covered roads that have been sanded. Sand is used up here because salt alone does not work good in colder temperatures and therefore it is mixed in with the sand. Gives better traction and helps melt the road off. But I do have to say that todays All-wheel drive vehicles do a good job too.

My trailer has been sitting for almost months now. It’s in need of a good washing and snide cleaning. I’ve been sitting on the fence about selling it. Am enjoying doing other things and it’s getting harder to get into campgrounds without advance reservations etc., not to mention busy campgrounds. Also getting to a point where I think I would rather drive something, than pull a trailer. We shall see. Next outing is end of August u less something changes. But I am going to tackle the trailer cleaning after these few 80 degree days are past..

Judy, not all of MI is wet. Up here, we are fine. The Sandy soil dries out quick. We had 1.5 inches of rain on Thursdsy and it’s getting dry here again. But the temps are in 50’s at night and 70’s during the day. 8’s on tap for weekend and esrly ne t week, before falling g back into 70’s. Rain forecasted a couple days.

Eed to get moving here. POA Annual meeting is this morning, so got to get cleaned up and dressed. Have a great day all.

Good morning Everybody from CT. It’s going to be a beautiful day...

Cheryl, I’ve been known to have pecan pie with ice cream! For breakfast. Life is short....I know, even shorter if I eat that way... Might be a good time to sell your trailer, and buy another after the camping/boondocking fad has passed. Big hugs for you and your dad.

Nothing much happening with me. Had some needed repairs done to my Roadtrek, and it’s ready for an upcoming 4-day Bluegrass Festival in August. Enjoy today. Peggy

BJ~ I've seen a couple articles on the FB news feed that there is a 'moon wobble' that's currently going on and it's affecting tides and is expected to cause major flooding into the 2030s.

Sue~ Maybe you've forgotten, but I lived in the Chicago suburbs my entire life. Due to the volume of traffic, and idiot drivers, around the suburbs, no vehicle is safe. I've had 2 and 4 wheel drive vehicles in the past, including trucks. Salt here doesn't do much good unless the temps are warm enough for it to work, and if the plows have already gone thru, and traffic has stayed of the roads. Darn near impossible with the population and dependency on vehicles here.

Cheryl, sorry about your dad and that you have to stay put for awhile, but when it comes to our parents, we all get to that point for awhile. Eventually, you will be able to hit the road again. Maybe you could get a smaller 4WD to get around in. In MN that is what everyone one has. Since you grew up in that area, you know what to expect. You also know when to stay home until the roads are safer after a storm. I would always let the plows, salt and sun do their thing before heading out (unless I had to go to work).

I've eaten ice cream for breakfast! I love peach ice cream! Schwan's had the best peach ice cream years ago! Too bad they don't still offer it.

I didn't catch anything by 7:30 last night so I contacted the TNR gal and asked if I could wait until this morning since I know these cats generally only come out at night especially with the heat. She said I could, as long as I brought the cat in my 8am this morning. So I went to bed and woke up at 6:45. I went out and checked the trap. I thought there was a little bunny rabbit in it! I got closer and it was actually a very young tortoise-shell kitty! Probably only 6 months old, if that. Very wild tho! She went crazy when she saw me. I put a sheet over the trap to calm her down. She never meowed at all. I got dressed and then drove all across the valley to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter to drop her off. I will pick her up early tomorrow morning and release her back here. I did see the orange kitty on my deck last night but I think she is smart enough now to know to stay away from the trap.

I stopped for breakfast at Denny's on the way home. Then came home and went back to bed for a couple hours.

I think I may be slightly allergic to the pot. My eyes are all puffy again this morning. I haven't gotten that until the past couple days when actually working with the pot itself. I will try using allergy drops right after I get off work and see if that is better. Otherwise I will have to ask not to do that part of the job. Hope they will be OK with that.

It is noon now, so I think I will grab a snack and start on the laundry.

Have a good day!

Good morning, I was up and at em early this morning. I tried to get my oil changed yesterday and good grief they were 6-8 cars deep at all 3 I went by. Nope went home googled other places and decided on one that opened at 8am. Also found a 50% coupon so got my oil change for $24. I was in and out in 25 minutes. Much more like it. Then went to the grocery store, yikes prices keep going up and up. Spent $56 and only had 2 bags full. I just needed some fresh fruit and veggies. I did buy a couple of meat products tho and some chips, and some ice cream LOL LOL

Cheryl sorry your wandering is going to be curtailed for the near future. Glad you found some storage for your trailer.

Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and squash on my agenda for dinner tonite. took it out of the freezer last night and will reheat in my air fryer.

So found out Roseburg has a Food Truck Lot with lots of food trucks parked there daily. I had to google the address but think it just might have my name on it. Reviews for each one were excellent. Now I dont know about the cost but I am willing to try it as they have a large variety from Thai to Mexican, to American hot dogs, hamburgers etc. I have to go south to Medford on Monday as I have my Rheumatology infusion on Tuesday so will have to wait until next week to check them out.

July is National Ice Cream Month. Blue Bell has a new flavor this month, Coconut Cream Pie. I want to try it but I keep forgetting to look for some. Like I need ice cream any way. lol A few years ago we had a campout at the peach festival in North Louisiana. We were eating peach ice cream twice a day. I'm still looking for peach ice cream. Last week I saw Ruston Peaches for sale on the side of the road. I was going to go back and get some but that was the day my brakes went out. Forgot about the peaches. I don't know why stores can't sell Louisiana produce. The peaches they sell come from Georgia or California and are hard as baseballs.

Cheryl, you are going to have your hands full taking care of your dad. Hope he listens and doesn't do something to break something else. I know why they say caregivers die before the patient. When I had Harold at home I couldn't sleep for trying to watch him.

Peggy, a Bluegrass Festival sounds fun. If I get my motorhome back next week I might go back to the lake. Will have to see what the weather is doing. It's fricking raining again and thundering Sugar likes to be outside when it rains. She was sleeping on the porch but she would probably like to come in now.

Barbie, glad you caught a cat. At least one more that's not going to have kittens. I would be tempted to try and tame it but you know me and cats. I have a wire cage in my living room because I got tired of putting it up and taking it down. It's the recovery room for sick cats. lol

Today feels like a Sunday but I know it's not. I cooked a chuck eye steak in the air frier and some yellow squash in the microwave. That's more like a Sunday dinner because I am usually running the roads on Saturday. Karen, there is a lot about 5 miles East of Abbeville for food trucks to park in. It's not a way I go often but will have to see if they have a web site. There is one that sets up in Abbeville sometimes. They post their menu on Facebook but I haven't been tempted to stop yet.

Martha I hear you on the hard as a rock peaches. I dont buy them in the store. I usually get them out at Harry & David's orchard. Best peaches ever. I might see if they have some at the Farmers market up here next week. I havent been in a while so might just venture over there next Saturday morning. I have never had peach ice cream but it sounds very good.

I happen to like all kinds of breakfast foods very much. Just not early in the morning. Need my coffee load first. I harvested 4 small tomatoes today so will have scrambled egg, tomatoes and avocado (got to get my good fat in) tomorrow morning. I am not real picky about food, I like pretty much all foods, ya think that could be a bit of a problem. I am not a huge fast food fan and I find it easier to just throw stuff in the air fryer or micro than go to town LOL I like salads, baked potato for dinner works, and I usually always have pasta sauce in the freezer. I use it for ravioli, spaghetti, or a goulash mix with penne pasta. A chicken terriyaki and rice bowl is always good. OK making myself hungry now. Had meatloaf, potatoes and zucchini for lunch so will just have a light dinner in a while.

I think after what this kitty is going thru, she won't ever want to see me again, let alone let my try and tame her. Maybe I can get her to come by to eat again but maybe not after getting caught in a trap here.

I haven't heard about any food trucks in the valley here. Will have to look into that.

Not getting much done today. I did find a cheaper dental insurance and signed up for that. The one I have had just raised their monthly premium and this one is half that amount and still provides decent coverage. It is a HMO versus a PPO. Just need to cut costs where I can.

Karen, a box of Harry & David pears were delivered here by mistake. I don't know why it came here. I think it was suppose to go to Maryland. I called the phone number on the box and the people they were going to told me to just keep them and they would call the company. They were sure good. I looked up pears on their web site and the box cost about $40 for 8 pears. It would be nice to be able to shop at their orchard.

I looked up the food truck lot in Erath on Facebook. One of the trucks sells seafood dishes. I will have to try them sometime.

I love good food trucks. I'd rather go to them than most restaurants. None around here. I also love fresh markets. Also none here. I really miss the fresh fruits and veggies. I don't mind the boonies, but especially mind not having the farmers markets. Heck I lived in a town of less than 200 and had them near, including some of the best apple orchards only a short drive away. I got to visit one of those this past fall when I visited my sister.

Cheryl, I'm sorry about your dad and making tough decisions including about your trailer. Maybe take your time before rushing into selling. On the other hand it seems things are being purchased at remarkably high prices right now. Just think it through.i hated dining my exes truck in Chicago. In the city itself often it was impossible to find a place to park. I totally understand your thoughts on that. And omg, when I had to take it with the plow on it occasionally it was worse.

I am not sure I'd want to drive MY truck in Chicago well to be honest I am not sure I'd want to drive ANYTHING in Chicago  it is too bad that you will be land locked for awhile.... at this time I am still planning on going down to Q but who knows what will happen but then there are other's that can step in and be with mom... we will see I guess....
as to the peach ice cream it does sound good... there is a recipe Martha that you ought to look up for a no church ice cream I've seen recipes for chocolate, strawberry, avocado so don't know why you can't use peaches as well... it has the "fruit or flavoring or syrup" sweetened condensed milk and whipping cream... I made some chocolate/peanut butter which was good but I think the peanut butter sunk would have to do that a bit differently another time...
tried doing some family research today.... did do almost one batch of indexing but wanted to go back over it so didn't submit it ...
you all have a great day

Is it the moon wobble that is causing all this talk about ice cream for breakfast?? Good thing no one has grandkids living with them because they would get some very bad habits from their grandmothers!

I went over to my son's house today and mostly spent my time going through a huge box of parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent stuff. I had put it in a large plastic bin when I moved out of my condo 9 years ago, but never really had the time to go through stuff. I took the oldest stuff and put it in two big bags. I will have to get a smaller plastic bin and go through it more carefully in the next 6-8 weeks while i am here. Needs organizing badly. Had all three grandkids looking over stuff with me, but they one by one lost interest and went back to their rooms. Parents got some adult-type furniture from cleaning out DIL's dad's house, so are getting rid of the childhood furniture and replacing single beds with full-sized beds for each kid. Bigger and better dressers, as well. And they were all supposed to go through their clothing to sort it out, although I think they really didn't finish it all. All are now wearing adult sizes, even almost-12-year old, and both girls are wearing real bras. 14 year old grandson had stack of at least 50-60 pairs of socks, most of which did not fit him, so he got it down to about 20 pairs!!! Now they need to go through all the toys in the basement and stuffed in closets and donate them!!! Frankly, house was a torn-up mess with all the moving of furniture.

Son and DIL went to furniture store to buy beds and then to Costco to stock up on essentials like huge packages of paper stuff, drinks, pop, snacks by the case, etc. Luckily, they have a second refrigerator in the basement and lots of storage down there, but they are feeding five adults, three of them teens or almost teens. Kids unloaded car and put away all the groceries, in basement and upstairs in kitchen. While kids put stuff away, parents ordered three slabs of ribs from the country club--came with potatoes and salads and was the hugest three slabs I have ever seen!! We six people ate only 1.5 slabs, and had lots left over, so i took some home, along with one salad, and a huge chunk of key lime pie. I have more than enough food for at least a couple of meals. They buy a social membership in the country club and that means using the pool all summer and getting things like tennis lessons for no additional cost. This also gives them a food credit, so they get takeout a lot, and kids can get lunches while swimming. It really is a good deal for them, especially since kids can walk to the pool by themselves and participate in swim teams and other activities without parents being there.

All in all, it was a productive day!! Time to go to bed!!!
