Good Morning. Sunshine and 71 out there. Storms later this evening. The pups and I are taking off and heading up to Mackinaw City just for fun. Have a great day all, stay safe in the Fire areas.

Morning Sue and all who follow. We got rain and lightening yesterday evening and possibly more coming this afternoon. We need the rain so I'm not complaining. I like your idea of a ride, Sue. Am thinking on that. I know Ty would love it.

Wow, a ride sounds really good, Sue and Beth!!

It must be that Great Minds Think Alike. I have been thinking the same thing! WAY too much "at home time" over the past year-and-a-half. With maybe more to come. . . :(

Unfortunately, the places I would most like to go (maybe even do an overnight!) - Lassen Volcanic National Park, Mt. Shasta volcano, Medicine Lake Volcano, Klamath Falls (with maybe a side trip to Mt. Mazama volcano, otherwise known as Crater Lake National Park), are all. . . in the general area where major fires are currently burning. Don't even know if I could get from Shasta to KF, Hwy. 97 might still be closed due to the Tennet Fire.

In any case, with giant fires still burning, I wouldn't be able to see much of the fabulous mountain scenery anyway, which is why I would go. . . all the vistas would be clouded with smoke.

Mt. Shasta volcano

Probably try to make a dash up to these areas in between when the first rains come (putting out any remaining fires, and cleaning the air) and before it gets really cold.

Oh well! Something to look forward to.

Today our HI is 76 and our LO is 70. Very comfy.
We have a new Greek restaurant only a block away! Opened yesterday. Love those Gyros.
Feel terrible about horrible fires in north of state. Great camping country up there.

72° here in my part of northern California , with mid to upper 90's later. I have a watercolor stamping class in 20 min, then off to Curves. No travel plans, with so many fires. Drought is deepening and power sources (we mostly rely on hydroelectric ) are now being threatened. They expect Oroville to reach shut down , due to lack of water to push turbine, in mid August. My city has back up power, but power issues with still hot weather in August could become more difficult. Then I read yesterday in local NBC site, that jet fuel shortages are happening, and the fire fighting jets use jet fuel!
We will just be here at home.

Good Morning!

BFF left this morning. A great visit but too hot to do anything outside. We did try 3 different restaurants. :)

Sue, I like your idea of a ride which we did one day. It is only suppose to be in the 70s here Friday so thinking the Sling could use a workout. :)

We visited at my daughter's last evening and lots of sirens on the highway. New fire with level 3 evacuations and only 7 1/2 miles east of Monica's. Now at 4,000 acres. Lightening fire to the north. Getting ugly. Kids planted sunflower seeds from bird food and have a little more than they bargained for. They really grew in the last month and about 7 feet tall.

I need a nap! Have a good day!

Oh Anita, I'll pray for safety of you, your family, and firefighters!
It's nice, not too warm here, so tolerable. I can see a lot of haze when I look at distant Sierras, so will be mindful of my lungs. Read an article few days ago about an ongoing study based on monitor readings during and after the Paradse fire, as to the really high microfine particulate particles, called P 2.5 , which often you don't even notice in air unless bigger particulate is in the air at same time, which can fit deep into the lungs of people and animals who breathe the air. It put me in the hospital in 2014, during the King fire, 50 miles east of us. Scientists are studying long term damage and effects of P 2.5 for respiratory and cardiac as well as increased cancer risk. Very scary stuff. I'll be watching pollution levels even if I don't see or smell smoke and will wear N95 if needed.
Done with Curves, headed to treadmill!

Hi ladies!

Velda, I commend you for going to Curves. I went for 10 years until they closed. Now I am on a high protein, low carb diet and it works for me. We haven't had rain for a while in MD, but our drought is nothing like you gals on the west coast plus our temperatures are much milder, as well.

We're going to the house everyday preparing for Saturday's moving sale. It has been taxing, to say the last. A young man stopped by today that we hired and cleaned our gazebo. Tomorrow we will go to clean the tabletops and wipe down the chairs. I also want to polish my baby grand piano so I can post it on Facebook to sell.

We ordered our first half bushel of steamed crabs for tomorrow and will pick them up on our way home. They will make all this worthwhile.

Oh, Irmi, my mouth is watering.

I didn't go for a drive today. This morning when I typed that the air quality was, I forget the word, but better than poor. I walked Ty and thought they were nuts. Looked again and it was poor. I decided to spend most of the day in my little RV with the air on. And after the rain came and I took Ty for a walk I think the air was worse. I'm being especially careful right now as I want this week of meds to work. I'm hoping it'll be a light work week for me starting tomorrow. I know reservations dropped off because of the weather and I'm ok if they've continued with that trend. I value my health over the money.

Anita, I'm glad you had a good time with your bff, but it's scary you're (and your daughter and family) having to deal with this close fire.

My major accomplishment today was to get the golf cart on the trailer. I pulled it with the lawnmower. My shoulder is letting me know I shouldn't have been pushing on that thing. I have to call in the morning to see if there will be someone to help me unload it.

The last time I went to the grocery store I bought some frozen french toast. I don't recommend it. I think frozen waffles would have been better. Irmi has started with the steamed crabs again so now I will be want some. One of the restaurants in town sells boiled crabs sometimes but boy are they expensive.

The guy that has the cows here told me that he went on vacation with his family and they all caught Covid. I noticed I hadn't seen him in a while. When they came home they gave it to his parents and his mother was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I wish I had ask him where they went. When we were under a mask mandate from the Governor they weren't wearing masks at the feed store. My parish is only at about 25% vaccinated and the cases are going up again. My neighbors are some that won't get the shot.

Hope everyone is safe from the fires and don't have too much smoke.

Martha

Slept in this morning, as I have been doing often, then after lunch went over and picked up three grandkids and took them to bookstore to treat them each to a book or two. Found out it is really hard for them to pick out books as almost-15-year-old is into adult history books but does not know what he wants. Girls are almost 12 and just 13, so they are into young adult or even adult books. Anyway, they finally each found something and we headed for ice cream. They have been really bored this week because it has rained hard every day and it rained again today. Weekends they go to Lake Erie for boating, but they are really ready to go back to school.

Getting good information on a tooth implant versus a bridge, but still got some thinking and research to do. Big decision.

Son has traveled most of this week and is going to be out of town part of next week. I hope he is able to meet me with the three kids at Port Crescent State Park in Michigan at the tip of the Thumb on the 26th, as we had planned. He mostly works at home so can plan his time, but if he has to go someplace, he does not have much choice. I spent every summer of my young life four doors east of the state park on Lake Huron, way way before it was a state park, so that huge chunk of empty land was my playground when I was age 9 to adult or when it became a state park in the late 60s. We used to pack a lunch and walk down the beach or take our rowboat for the day. Those were the days when parents did not worry about you drowning or getting abducted!

Just getting ready for bed. I slept better and longer last night so felt better this morning. On the way to work, I almost ran over a young woman who was walking along the median on the busy street in Palm Desert. I was slowing down to turn left and she just wandered into the left lane in front of me. :o I hit my brakes and my horn. She spun around and then gave me a dirty look! Yeah, like it was all my fault that I almost hit her!

Nothing else too exciting. I have someone coming over in the morning to buy my portable AC unit, finally! And someone else coming by on Friday to buy my tent. Will be great to get rid of those things. They are taking up space on my deck! I need the money too. I get my first paycheck on Friday. I think I may have made commission on my work and they show that on your paycheck stub of what you made and for which project. I am pretty much keeping up with my friend there and she earns commission every day so hopefully I will too. Every bit helps!

Sheila, the eye glass place is called Zenni.com.

Irmi, Curves is as much a social thing for me as it is exercise. I have so many friends there, having been to same club nearly 12 years. I do love it , but in two years, they may move, which will be a further drive, so I'll reevaluate. My Mom had severe osteoporosis, so I've long been conscious of my bones, starting D very early and trying to keep up exercise to strengthen bone. Also I eat mostly carnivore these days, because it's how I feel best.
