Saturday July 3

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday July 3

Morning All, storm moved through the area and it’s much cooler today. Rain finally came in the right direction to water the monster tomato plant. Just what it needs a good nitrogen bath so it will grow bigger. Lol On a mission to buy a fly shatter today. First time I have flies in the apartment. Probably from the tomato plant. Beach traffic picking up so need to run a couple of errands quickly. Be safe, stay cool and drive carefully.

I'm on call today with a friend coming from Lakeport to the west of me, starting her trip east to see family in Colorado and points east. I suggested she make here a first driving break and get her groceries since her nearest store is a drive for her anyway, this is a convenient 5 min off freeway east. When she calls, I'll meet her and help her find what she needs at my local store, then give her a hug before she gets back on east bound freeway. Wish I was following her!
Otherwise we will have a quiet day. I'll probably make potato salad for tomorrow as son loves it. Burgers to go in Air Fryer. Then safe and sane fireworks with neighbors will wrap tne holiday.
Have a safe holiday.

Slept in late this morning. Just heard a few raindrops on the roof. Now the sun is trying to come out.

Want to get some stuff done around here today. Cindy wants me to go to the pool with her but I just don't like being out in this heat even in the pool. The pool water is very warm so not very refreshing.

Still trying to find out if the casino is having fireworks this weekend. Didn't see anything tho on their website so maybe not this year. Velda, I heard that fireworks were gonna be a lot more expensive this year, not sure why tho. I never buy any. In fact I rarely do anything on the 4th. Just another day to me. Most holidays are like that for me now.

There is a tropical storm heading to the gulf and predictions so far have it landing on the west side of Florida north of Tampa. That is where Donna lives and also a good friend of mine. But, like most storms, they really never know where they are going to go until the last minute. Hoping all you gals on here that live near the gulf, keep an eye on it and stay safe!

Have a good day! :D

Argh! First wouldn't let me post and now cursor is running backwards over everything but not deleting! Laptop is possessed! :)

Good to see your post, Lyn. Barbie, happy the job is going well. Beth, hope you are feeling better.

Apparently I have an arm issue after the Covid shot 3 months ago. Blamed it on moving, etc. but that is no longer the case. They say it will go away. All I can say is, Ouch!

Worrisome here this weekend even though fireworks have been banned. Always someone who doesn't follow the rules.

Not going to tempt this any further - Happy 4th weekend!!

Didn't end up getting much done today.

I did call about jury duty and the recording said I don't have to go in on Tuesday but need to call Tuesday night to see about Wednesday. Am on call, I guess. So I can go to work on Tuesday.

I decided to make blueberry mini muffins tonight so I turned on the oven. I have used it once since Easter when it didn't work at all. The pilot light lit but my propane alarm came on up to a #3. I opened the oven and it went down to a #1. I used it then and it all turned out OK. But tonight the propane alarm came on and went up to a #4, even tho the pilot light was lit. So I turned off the oven and opened the windows for a bit with the exhaust fan on. That just makes me so nervous! I will have to find out what the problem is before I try to use it again. It worked fine when I first bought the oven last year. It wasn't until Easter that I had a problem with it.

I was so looking forward to blueberry muffins! :( (I got a mix but bought fresh blueberries to add to it). I thought I could use my toaster oven instead but my muffin pan won't fit in there. I tried to find a mini muffin pan for use in a toaster oven on Amazon but they are too big. I am thinking that if I get a silicone mini muffin pan for 12 muffins (they don't come smaller), I could cut it in half to fit, right?

The casino across from me isn't doing fireworks this year but there is another smaller casino a few miles away that was doing some tonight. I didn't want to drive down there for them, but I could see the tops of them from here. Cindy and I are going to the first casino tomorrow night because they have a rooftop bar that looks out over the whole valley so we can see them all from there. Hoping it isn't too crowded tho. We well get there early.

I think I might go to church tomorrow instead of watching it on You Tube. They have been having a lot of technical issues lately with the YouTube videos, and tomorrow our previous minister will be there and I would like to see him in person. It will be crowded I am sure so I will have to get there early if I go.

Time for bed. I guess I will make some cinnamon toast for a bedtime snack.

Barbara, yes fireworks we're significantly more expensive this year at the charity run stands we go to each year. The people who run our favorites stand, and have run it for lots of years, told us, shipments of fireworks were late leaving China, as their factories were producing various pandemic supplies until recently. Also ships are backed up off LA, ready to unload, but held back while waiting in line for their berths. So, he said , they were told, you get what you get and no more and no requests for items. And that prices were up 50-70% from the company who oversee it all.
Lots of loud noises tonight in all directions from us. I was sitting on my front porch, enjoying the night air when off to the rear of house I see an object with red and green marker lights flying first across north to south, then zig zagging around. At one point I triggered my automatic yard light, and the object suddenly turned and flew towards me, then stopped and reversed. About this time, I had decided it was a drone, possibly the guy who films all our Christmas lights each Christmas eve, and I saw neighbor pull in. Went to chat with her and we think it's a police drone watching for illegal fireworks and it saw my flash of light and flew towards me to see if it was fireworks, but quickly learned it was my porch light so left to investigate other flashes. It was odd to see it so close. But glad PD are using all their tools to protect us from the idiots.
I have potatoes ready chilling to be peeled and cut and make salad. Will try to get Chrus his pretzel jello made.
Have a good 4th everyone.

I think I would find a drone flying near my face in my private back yard to be a bit creepy, 4th-Amendment wise. One might think that police maybe should have a warrant before coming so close. . .

Fourth Amendment to the Constitution: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Here is an interesting article regarding the use of drones by law enforcement:

https://www.lmc.org/news-publications/magazine/may-jun-2020/law-enforcement-drone-policy/

Just sayin. . . and if it wasn't law enforcement, that is a whole 'nother can of worms. . .

Anne~ With all of the fire danger, and illegal fireworks, I'd be more than happy to see a police drone and would feel more decide that they checked out what the light was and went on their way.

Anne, no it wasn't "in my face" it was at least half a block distance to my east, which is side my back yard is. No it doesn't require a warrant due to recent laws allowing it to monitor for illegal activity such as the fireworks they are trying to find being used that are of illegal nature. It's been announced police will use all their tools to try to maintain safety from the idiots who buy and sell and use illegal type fireworks that go up in tne air. With the worries you have had with Joe and noise on 4th, I would think you would welcome any attempt to find and stop the illegal use. I'm glad that deterrent is in use here! and when the guy flys on Christmas Eve here , then produces beautiful video of our area Christmas lights, that's also welcome as he has it up to watch for free.
