We started the day by taking a walk in The Wetlands - got in 4900 steps. We walked just as the sun was rising, the only time of day I can get out before the heat sets in..
So nice and peaceful there. Hard to believe it is only 100 yards from our home in Vegas.





We, Bill and I, didn't walk too far as he was cold until the sun really got up. There is a big river a little further on with a lot of fish in it. Like I said just behind our home. The town is full of tourists this weekend for the first time in a year. Hope all goes well and there isn't a spike in Covid.
Day after tomorrow the whole state reopens. Lots of people still wearing masks inside though. Us included even though we've had the shots.
Summer has arrived here, by Wednesday it will be over 100 probably for the rest of the summer. Ugh.
Just sharing the scenery. Every one take care and enjoy the weekend.

Good Morning All, Carol great photos! You live in a good location! Masks mandates were lifted here in Illinois but most people I see in the stores where we live are still wearing masks. I think it is a good idea. I also think many people will wear them in flu season. I've read some reports that the low number of flu cases last year was due to mask wearing. Probably a combination of masks and people being more careful about washing their hands.

I had to take my little Mitzi to the vet yesterday. I had her groomed Tuesday and they razor burned her so bad on her stomach and private area she developed a skin infection. Needless to say I am furious!! The groomer has been in business over 20 years and this was pure carelessness. I have Emma groomed there once a month and the little ones every 6 weeks and I always tip well. I am of course looking for a new groomer which is not an easy. ! I was a bit shocked at the $125.00 vet bill! The office visit alone was $69.00 and increase of over $20.00 since I was there a couple of months ago.

It was in the fifties here and raining some yesterday I finally turned the heat on. I think that is a first for the end of May. Probably be in the nineties by the end of next week!

Morning All, rainy, cold and low 50’s. I raced the beach traffic down the highway early to Lowe’s. The Juliet grape tomato plant in a pot is taking over the balcony. I went to Lowe’s for bamboo stakes to make a teepee to contain the monster. Sailed to Easton and back without a problem. Was wet, cold and starving so made Shirl sausage gravy for brunch. Trying to stay away from flour, oh well it’s a holiday weekend. If on the road be careful and stay safe.

I, too, have been reading that the "flu season" since the beginning of the pandemic has been almost non-existent.

I am one that will probably be wearing a mask from now on, especially whenever I am in crowds. . . if I am ever again in crowds. Even before the pandemic, people were always so careless in sneezing and coughing in public. I have had pneumonia twice in my life (thankfully, not for many years), don't ever want to go there again if I can possibly help it.

Additionally, whenever I get a flu-like illness it always knocks me flat, generally for two or three weeks. These days, I'll do almost anything to keep from getting sick like that.

I don't understand these people who criticize other people for wearing masks, and the few that agitate for mask-wearing to be banned. These, generally, are the same people who proclaimed their right not to wear a mask, because no one had the right to tell them what to do. . . Now they seem to think they have the right to tell everyone else what to do. . .

We do live in "interesting times".

Sorry to hear about your little Mitzi. That she has been injured by her groomer is just plain terrible, and now you have a vet bill into the bargain. I hope that she recovers with no ill effects. I can't imagine the process involved to find a good and trusted groomer. It must be very, very difficult. I have mostly owned smooth-coated breeds (LOL Staffords have very little hair at all - but it doesn't seem to stop them from shedding twice a year!) so I have always done what little grooming is needed myself at home.

I hope that your Mitzi is soon feeling much better.

Morning all!
Shirl, you can make a nice thick gravy using no flour. I brown the sausage, then add blobs of cream cheese and some heavy cream, stirring until cheese melts and adjusting thickness with cream. It's very good. I can't eat grains without reaction, so found this better way. I have done lots of sauces this way. Sautéed chicken, pan deglazed with some broth or wine, then turned into sauce by adding cream cheese and cream (also a dollop of Dijon mustard in the chicken sauce is tasty) and simmering down a few min. I have also made a nice sauce for steak, basically same way.
We are predicted to hit 100 this afternoon for first time this year. It was 74° at 10. Not looking forward to the heat. Staying inside with AC.
Got lots of small chores done yesterday. Then tried WngStop chicken wings. Mine are better in air fryer, as I don't like their sauce/ rubs- way to salty and not much other flavor than the salt, though tne wings themselves were tender and quite large and juicy. I'll do my own in future! Son doesn't like bones so he got their boneless but had samp opinion on flavors lacking. We have decided to check out a new restaurant every month or so, for take out. This one won't be a repeat, unless I order plain wings, no sauce or rub. In addition their fries were limp and tasteless, hardly worth the splurge!
Church starts in 30 min, I'm still doing zoom, until I can get Chris vaccinated-I keep checking and no appointments available nearby for Pfizer ( due to his complicated medical stuff, and the fact J&j has had some questions on side effects/ blood clots and Moderna seems to have a higher number of side effects from my informal survey of friends, I decided Pfizer is best for him). I'll keep trying. I know it was 0130 in morning when in February I happened to check site and found my appointment after weeks of checking, so I'll keep at it. I sure hope boosters, if necessary in future, aren't this much hassle!
Week ahead is still PT plus my usual Curves and son has a Dr appointment, so we will stay busy.
Hope you have a good safe week. I'm spending time reminiscing about my 5 classmates who lost their lives in Vietnam. So young, such potential lost. Out of a class of only 350, our high school class lost more than any other at my high school. We still recognize them at each reunion and talk about them, ESP at this time of year. Our 55th high school reunion is being planned for fall.

Good morning gals!

I have been licking my emotional wounds this week. Spent 3 days in bed with anxiety attacks and severe headaches. Yesterday, I put my big girl panties on and got up, went to WM for some things and felt better. I ordered a homeopathic patch kit for anxiety and got that yesterday. Put one on and felt very relaxed last night and slept well without the Advil PM.

BJ, I would take that vet bill to the groomer and ask them to pay it. It was their fault for the infection. Poor Mitzi!!

Anne, I totally agree! I remember when they first started giving vaccines at Dodger Stadium and a group of anti-vaxers were blocking cars from going in because they didn't want anyone else to get vaccinated since they themselves didn't believe in it. If you don't want one, fine, but don't try to stop those of us who want one to get one. Like you said, they want their freedom to make the choice but don't want others to have that same freedom to choose to get one.

I need to make up my fried rice dish with YumYum sauce today for our Memorial Day cookout tonight here in the park. (Lyn, did you ever find the YumYum sauce? WM has it in their Asian sauce section. Get the one with the black cap. The red cap is really hot! Unless you like hot! ).

I have been putting money away for buying a camper van in the future. Am now living on that money until I start working again.

I love early morning walks, Carol. Thanks for the pics. Looks like you're in a good location.
My son borrowed my minivan for a camping trip this week so I walked to Mass this morning - just about 1 mile away. I need to do that more often as it is so relaxing to just get out & go without driving. They offered to leave their Tesla with me, but I sure as heck don't want to mess with it. Not even sure how to start it up.

Anyway, that also means I don't have the grands for the week. I love them like crazy but Jordi is now 18-months old & acts more like a 2-year old - very headstrong, active, smiles as he defies you & even enjoys his time-outs. The day I have both of them is just darn exhausting. They finally found & enrolled Olivia in a summer program. Now we need to find some place for Jordi for January.

BJ, sorry to hear about Mitzi. Hope she heals up quickly & that you find another groomer.
Anita, can't wait to see more pics of the apartment. So much fun moving into somewhere new.
Velda, hope you get your son vaccinated soon. They seem pretty easy to get down here now, but I understand your challenge since you want a specific one.

Anne, my daughter worked for SportRX (specializes in prescription sports eyewear) & since she got a discount, I bought my last pair of prescription glasses from them. It's all done online and the prescription was perfect. So many places offer online prescription glasses now & they are usually much less expensive than optical stores or buying them from the optometrist.

Well, I've got to get moving. Looking for my cherry pitter! Just saw it somewhere recently & now that I bought cherries, I can't find it.

Catherine, my son in Ohio has a Tesla, and I tried to drive it for about three miles!!! Horrible. Had trouble putting it in drive and doing a lot of other normal things, just found the screen horrible distracting. It reminded me of a trip I took to the UK about 12 years ago. Avis "upgraded" me to a large 7-passenger Citroen Picasso. It was not electric, but it was a luxury car and had most of the controls on a screen in the middle of the dash. I could check a ton of things I did not care about--oil pressure and oil temp, engine effectiveness, and other junk. Kept switching between three screens. Also, it was hard to park because it was a large vehicle by European standards. Finally, I took it back and told them to give me something very small and simple!

I am in Fernley, NV right now with no TV because the spot I got in this campground has a branch blocking my satellite. Going to get some work done and try to get to bed early.

Lark and I made it back from Charlotte, NC, by 6:30 or so this evening. I broke the drive down into 2 days and drove south using I 75 to Knoxville and turning east there and driving 40 through beautiful NC. Came home straight up I 77 through western VA and WV. Another beautiful trip through mountains. Lovely visit with Kate and Lucas and the two grand dogs. Lark was a good house guest and all three dogs were polite with one another.

Anita, I have searched and cannot find the posted pictures of your new home.

Home again. Had an easy drive home from Laura's today even tho it was busier than normal not as bad as it will be tomorrow. My plants were all thirsty of course but looking good. We had a fun time at the coast and then just running around Salem area doing some of Laura's errands. Lots of visiting.

I too still wear my mask even tho vaccinated. Only a few stores that will let you in without a mask. I don't mind wearing it as it is usually for short periods of time. A few of my ER nurse friends told me people that came into the ER feeling ill were swabbed for Covid. They didn't even swab for Flu. If your Covid test was negative they just sent you home with instructions. So no darn wonder we didn't have any real Flu issues.

I agree with Barbie, I would be giving them my darn vet bill. Poor Mitzi. I am thankful for the gal that does Emma. She has been doing her for 4 years. Of course I only get a bath and brush out, nails done and pads trimmed. I dont have any sanitary shaving or cuts done either. I would have been furious, heck I am furious for ya LOL

I have an appointment for Emma to see the vet for her vaccinations and Heartguard the end of June. Last October I had to get more Heartguard because all mine was destroyed in the fire of course, and they gave me a years supply for no charge. I thought that was pretty darn awesome. I am trying to make my trip to Medford count.....Dog vet, dog groomer, eye Doc two days and any shopping I need to do. So far it is going well. I can't get her dog license until she gets her Rabies shot in June so timing is good as hers expire the end of June.

Velda, sorry you are having trouble finding a shot for your son. They are begging people to get one here. They report the covid results for the area on the news and most parishes are under 30% vaccinated. There are still people dying from it according to the news. Yesterday one of the hospitals had the Sheriff's mobil unit set up only a few blocks from where my son lives giving shots. I called my son and tried to get him to go but I'm sure he didn't. Some people are still wearing masks and I do sometimes. I got tired of sitting at home and went to Lafayette. I joined the church crowd at Piccadilly and picked up a lunch. They had a sign asking everyone to wear a mask but there weren't many wearing one except me and the servers.

I stopped at TJ Maxx and bought stuff I didn't need, mostly junk food and a t-shirt. They still have their dressing rooms closed so you can't try on cloths. I would like some new jean capris but I don't want some that are already faded or have holes in them. Why do women want to wear jeans with holes in them? I didn't feel like going to the mall.

BJ, sorry about Mitzi. I would sure tell them they cost you a vet bill. It seems like every place is trying to make up for the business they lost last year. Now a lot of places are charging you to use a credit card.

Shirl, on my old computer security wouldn't let me use the link to post, but I just tried and this one might. So far there are just a few on FB. I'll try to get some up tomorrow after a little bit of furniture comes. Monica is coming to line shelves and organize my kitchen - I've always missed her when setting up in new RVs. Furniture store is to deliver in the morning and Fed Ex is bringing cabinet bed sometime tomorrow. I've spent yesterday and today cleaning camper - work 10 minutes, rest back 10 minutes and don't forget the nap. For me, I have been getting up very early for several days - some days even before the alarm. I'm keeping the camper here another week just for convenience and so I can maybe finally give the Sling a good cleaning! About 700 have looked at FB ad but so far no lookers. Imagine everyone has plans for 3-day weekend.

Kids and I did go out for Mexican dinner last night - IN a restaurant. Alan and I had the Hummer and the van emptied in about a hour Friday. First thing I did when I got there was start laundry! Lots of people moving in. Monica came for 2 1/2 hours between jobs, took her back to work and then picked her up so spent the whole day in the apartment. Laundry, distributing boxes correct rooms, just sitting and going ahhh.

BJ, I would be so unhappy with that groomer! Here's hope for quick healing. Catherine, sounds like you have your hands full! But how cute he is! Wonder where my big girl panties t-shirt is. I probably could have used it last week! Karen, glad you are safely home after a fun weekend. Tina, happy you had a nice trip. Martha, I need new shirts so badly! Ordered some but not thrilled.

it's been a busy day tomorrow will be even worse... grandson told me he would like scones for a treat so it was suggested that I do them tomorrow morning that way dd and family would be able to enjoy them gs won't be there when I am doing them doubled the batch so will have lots of scones... dd was going to go over to Jackson and son was leaving early but because of a big discussion I think he will be hear and dd will go to Jackson later...
I am going to go to mom's tomorrow sometime to help her out so because I made bake beans and salad and guess that is it and resulting in huge mess they are going to help me get ready to go over to mom's my brother said that I ought to not let her try to drive so he told her that she probably shouldn't drive she evidently indicated that she wasn't ready to give up driving... hmm what fun trying to make her not drive when it's her car and she is stubborn... not looking forward to that at all
so guess that we will see how things go... need to be positive that this is going to work I'd love to see her back to being independent but at the same time not sure that she will be able to live on her own and not sure she understands that ... and don't know how to let her be more independent. I would like to see a washer and dryer put into her bathroom closet not sure she will think it is a good idea as she can go up and down the stairs... perhaps she can but should she???
oh well hope "we " are ready for this ride...
we spent time at the cemetery and then had a picnic after words was a good time with family
then time with my kids for most part been a good day
