Gusty Saturday!

Woke to gusty winds today, and at moment it's 75 degrees and on its way to about 90 with humidity only 36% and likely dropping. Vegetation is quickly drying out. Recipe for fire weather here in California ! I need to get busy and strip and remake my bed, which I planned to do, but Stormy helped it along by bringing her chicken leg to the towel I keep under my pillow (because she chooses to dine in middle of night and wants company!?). Then I have at least 2 loads for washer. Going to continue shredding as I sort and hopefully finish taxes this weekend. I finally got a letter yesterday from IRS explaining the last 2 big "gifts" they sent. If lucky they will pay the taxes! The $$ arrived 2 months ago and I added to savings as I really wasn't sure I was supposed to get it.
I can feel allergy stuff kicked up by wind so inside is where I should stay, though I had hoped to move Christmas boxes from sunroom to garage, since that entails going outside, I'll probably just get them ready by door and haul down another day. I am determined to empty that sunroom soon. Then if handyman decides not to return, I'm ready for someone else to help!

Morning, Velda, and all who follow.

The winds are roaring here at my house, temp about 86 - 87 at the moment, likely will top today in the 90's somewhere.

Not at all good.

I have lived in this area more than 40 years, I can't remember a year that had such a paucity of rain. Joe and I went for a drive about three weeks ago to the nearby Sutter Buttes volcano. Lots of grazing cattle there, I'm guessing the ranchers in my area are in a world of hurt. This would have been mid-April, there was not a blade of green grass to be seen anywhere, all of the pastures were grazed down to parched yellow-brown stubs.

I'm guessing that ranchers are feeding hay already - and this isn't good news either. A lot of hay is grown in the Central Valley here (dry-land farming, no irrigation), and it's the usual story - no rain, no hay. I have no idea where ranchers will find to buy hay as the summer goes on. And it won't be cheap.

As you know, Velda, there have already been several smallish wild-land fires here in the surrounding areas already (not even mid-May, for crying out loud!!), but these have been put out fairly quickly, aided by calm wind conditions.

With the wind blowing as it is today, the heat climbing, and already-dried-out vegetation, it is not looking like a promising summer season.

I hope we don't have weeks of heavy smoke like we did last year. But it is probably on the program.

Good evening ladies!

I started out pretty good this morning after a good night's sleep but then Lola started getting sick under the bed. I quick reached under and grabbed her and got her out before she threw up under there.
Unfortunately, I did that with my left arm. I paid for that the rest of the day! Lots of pain from my shoulder blade all the way down to my hand! Along with that I got a bad headache. I took some Ibuprofin but that didn't do much. Finally around 4pm I took some more, then sprayed some Icy Hot on my shoulder, elbow and wrist and all points in between. Put an ice pack on my shoulder blade area and laid down on my bed. Once all that kicked in, I fell asleep for a few hours. Just woke up and am feeling better finally.

So nothing got done today. Maybe tomorrow...

Anne, I saw a story on the news here a few weeks ago about a rancher up that way who had to sell half of their herd of cows. They have just enough hay for the ones they have left, to get thru till next year. I am sure there are a lot of other ranchers doing the same thing in order to not lose their cows to starvation. Tough times!

been a really cold day today .... and my mom keeps her house so cold anyway... she decided that soup would taste good... so went to a grocery store "Whole Foods" for some hot soup also got a slice of tres leche cake was good but have had better..it's Sat. night so need to get her ready to take a shower...
did vacuum but pretty much that is all and started using the drops only takes 2 to get 1 in not good odds... hopefully there is extra
so shower is over with the heat lamp on in there it was hot now back into the cold need to go find my jacket and wrap up in a blanket
my mom has been at my brothers house about 3-4 hours from here they suggested that we bring mom home so that other family members would be able to see her over the weekend so far no one has come... expect my dd's tomorrow the other brother better show up the great granddaughter's weren't brought over which we fully expected...
think she is somewhat disappointed probably more so about the great grand's not coming
