Thankful Thursday!

Good morning gals! (oops, almost noon here!)

Just got back from the ortho appointment. Great news! No surgery needed! The tear is minimal but he says I have a frozen shoulder. He recommended a cortisone shot and then back to PT for awhile. I will go back for the shot next week once my insurance approves it. He says I can go back to work after that, but I am still gonna only do part time. I am very happy with that plan!

I stopped at the Marriott Resort on my way home. My dad and I had stopped there when we came to Palm Springs way back in the 80's, and it was so beautiful to walk around. They had parrots in the huge atrium lobby, and gondolas that came into the open air lobby on their waterway to give rides around the property. At that time they also had a resident cat named Zorro that we fell in love with. My dad went back a few years later and asked about Zorro and found out he had passed away. Now, I don't see any evidence of the parrots either. Not sure if that is just due to the Covid situation or if they just don't have them anymore. But the grounds are still stunning to walk around. Took some pics.

Need to get something done today. I got some prescription Ibuprofen with something in it to prevent stomach issues, so I should feel better soon.

Have a good day! :D

Woke up late this morning, and removed the privacy curtain in the front of my rig. Surprised to find three horses munching dry grass in front of my rig. I suspect they were horses owned by someone in the nearby Indian reservation. The campground is nearly empty again. It was equally empty yesterday morning but filled up by dinner time. Guess everybody is just passing through! This area has a lot of reservation land, so population is heavily Native American. I walked around earlier and found some very old horse manure, so apparently they visit this place often.

Heading to Homolovi this weekend, and getting my twice a year blood work done near there. Got a 6-month checkup with my Oregon doctor, and he will need to blood work to tell how I am doing. I also asked him to order an antigen test to make sure I am really, really protected. Not sure what happens if I have not built up antibodies--maybe another booster?? It has been 5 weeks since my second shot, so should have had enough time. There are a couple of places that are doing research on blood conditions and reaction to COVID vaccine, but like everything else, everyone is learning from this disease. Good news is that all adults in my sons' families have been vaccinated. The oldest, age 16, has also been vaccinated, and the new 12-15 rule will cover the rest of the people. This will really be important for my Ohio DIL, as her father is being treated with chemo for cancer and is staying with them a lot of the time. He has a huge house in North Carolina, but family is in Ohio, so they are trying to talk him into an apartment for a while.

Beautiful sunny day with temps in the 70s, so perfect day today!!

Sounds like some good news Barbie. I had a frozen shoulder once and had to undergo PT for a few weeks, plus exercises to do at home. The therapist also had to work the shoulder too and he warned me it was gonna be painful. No kidding. But I got through it an no more issues since. Good luck to you. It will all work out. There are probably different techniques these days compared to when I had mine.

Shirl, I’m not listening to my elders    Situations like Barbies are caused by constant repetition of the same area for days and hours on end. My work is just short tern here and there, once done, it’s done. It can cause muscle strains or stuff like that, but I have always done heavy work for the most part, so I know how to handle it. And regular checkups with my chiropractor keeps me in good shape. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it    But I do know that as I get older I won’t be doing as much of this type of stuff, as even now I can’t work, hours on end like I used to.

Been working outside till the rain forced me to quit around mid afternoon. Raking and running the leaf blower to pick up debris from the winds we had last week. That takes care of that. Need to mow again, but too wet. Once I finish my flagpole project, my yard work is done. Just maintenance from here on. Got a couple other projects to do, but just maintenance stuff, Ike repainting my deck. Nothing a roller dan’t handle. Hoping to get my trailer cover off this weekend and get things moving on that end.

So, that’s about it for today around here. Time to think about supper.

Afternoon All, Barbie that is wonderful news. Sue, I hear you and I was kidding. I was told by a physical therapist that I did not know the meaning of “moderation”. :D When you worked in a hospital full time and only have two weekends a month to do yard work, you crowd as much as you can into that time. A flag didn’t come up and say “ enough for today” so I would get into trouble. The older I got the more severe the trouble. Think I finally learned my lesson but I’m not having much fun. Be safe

I was poking fun back at you too Shirl, Hah Hah Hah Hah. I know well that work all weekend and try to do stuff on the weekends. Since I was 7, we took care of three properties. My grandfathers yard, our home and yard, we lived on half an acre, and our summer cottage, later to become permanent home here. But we kept everything in balance, doing some things after work. Back in those days, people weren’t rushing around like they do now. We had time to spend visiting with our neighbors on their front porches and even going out with my grandfathers neighbors on their cabin cruiser. Up here we nev er thought of it as work, because it was a change of scenery and on the lake. Always time for a swim, a pontoon boat ride etc. There were three of us then and only one of me now. So I try to keep landscaping to stuff I can easily maintain and have the necessary equipment to do it. But like all of us, there will come a Day when it too will be too much. Unfortunately life starts to cause issues. I can see that just reading on here, those with health issues etc. but we keep gong. I have couple of friends who are 80 and 82 and have yet to slow down. I am a believer in keeping active plays a big part in aging. Hang in there gals. :)

Barbie, I'm happy to hear your reassuring news. My only advice is, unless you are a masochist, don't fix frozen shoulder as I (accidentally) did! After fighting it close to a year, one day I put my right hand on my treadmill and reached past it to a out of the way light switch (my remote switch for porch light in case I forget to turn it off before heading to my room). Problem was my right hand wasn't actually on treadmill, but on my lexan book rest, which was out over the edge. As the book rest came flying off, I quick reached left hand up to grab corner of wall, slamming my forearm into corner of wall, forcing my shoulder back hard. Let's just say neighbors may have heard me at other end of street! I think I'd rather be in labor with a baby again than break loose a frozen shoulder that way. As I hit I could hear the crunching grinding. After getting away from wall and sitting down, the pain slowly subsided with a ice pack. Within a half hour I could tell I had lots more mobility! After that it was working to keep it mobile as it healed. Frozen shoulder frozen no more and no issue since! And I never knew what started it to begin with.

Velda, I told Barbie yesterday about my mother's frozen shoulder when I was little. I was with her in the doctor's office when he took her hand and swung her arm all the way around. I think I screamed as loud as she did. But, like you, frozen shoulder no more. Her therapy was all at home, starting with walking her fingers up the wall. Like you, she never knew what caused it and never had it happen again.

Think I'd pass that up, too! Good to hear you don't need the surgery, Barbie
