Lazy Wednesday

Yep, it's a do nothing day. At least a do nothing I don't want to day lol. And no work. I ended up staying up late last night as I definitely got a second wind. Feels good to still be lazing this am. Ty just finally poked his head and body out from the covers! Weather apps day less windy, but I'm listening to it and don't believe it's as "less" as they are saying.

Time to get my day going. How everyone has a good one!

The strong winds have arrived, I can hear them on the metal roof. The storm door almost hit me because the wind caught it and jerked it out of my hand.

It's a lazy day here too. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to town and pick up lunch or eat something out of the freezer. The deli has BBQ ribs today. Their BBQ isn't that great so not a lot of incentive to go to town. I like the ribs from Dicky's in Lafayette. I had thought about picking some up the last time I went but it's on the other side of town from where I was. I lead an exciting life when my biggest decision is what to eat.

Afternoon All, it’s a beautiful hot day. Had a delightful lunch reminiscing with old friend and her daughter yesterday. Hemingways restaurant is situated on the Chesapeake Bay. We had lunch on the deck and a gorgeous view of the bay and bridge. My friend has health issues and can no longer climb stairs. Not a problem the restaurant had a one person elevator from the outside to the entrance deck. This morning traveled to the garden to give the plants a good soak. Still dealing with issues related to irrigation system so hand watering garden. For sixty years I have been trying to replicate a spaghetti sauce that I had at an Italian restaurant without success. Today I will try again. :) Be safe

Good morning gals!

Warming up outside today but still looks very breezy. Will try to do some paint touch-up around the trim out on the deck today.

My back is a bit sore this morning so I am laying on my heating pad. My shoulder feels better tho and I am on day 2 with no pain meds. Need to do my exercises soon here too.

Just watched Day #3 of the Deep Cleaning challenge for my decluttering group. Shoes! I really need to go thru my shoes. I know there are several (at least) that I no longer wear. I have just a small storage area for shoes so it gets filled up fast. I also need to find a place to put my sandals and work shoes out in the living room area that I wear daily. Sometimes I really miss all the space I had in my other house.

Have a good day!

Shirl, it is good to have goals.

Today was Gus Cats last day. He had a seizure this morning which also made me reconsider what I had observed two days ago in the middle of the night when I came into the kitchen and found him staring at the cabinets and Wanda Cat starring at him. He was 18-19 years old and still feral after living all these years in the house with us. He and his brother were found in one of our back sheds one winter, looking healthy and abandoned. We figured that neither of them would stay that way for long...either alive or healthy. I had started feeding them and Sam, the brave brother, would come up to the fence with barking English Cockers in his face as if to say to the house, "Hey lady, time for more food!" Gus would never show himself when the food came. I only knew there was a second young cat from observations from the house. Anyway I borrowed a Trap from the shelter and caught Sam within a hour with the trade of tuna. It took another 16 hours for Gus to give in. I used two large connected dog crates in the basement to house them in until I could get an appointment with my vet and get then neutered. By that time Sam had tamed my daughter. Gus never forgave me for catching him and the trips to the vet for neutering and the one ear infection. I would have to wear gloves and be very careful. It was not fun for either of us. Unfortunately whatever early life experiences had scared Gus he never lost his fear of the world. He did however fall madly in love with Ed , the 3 year old ginger cat that looked like a a bigger model of little Gus. It was instant as soon as he saw him. Gus then spent the 15 years of his life idolizing Ed. Ed was his emotional support cat. When Ed passed. Gus got so depressed he quit coming up from the basement to eat and wasn't doing so well. So Wanda cat came to live with us. It took her a while but she did her job. She got him to join the world again. Arthritis had slowed him down these past couple of years and he was not able to groom himself well but he was a faithful litter box user and a good eater. He was also totally deaf by this time. We knew because one of his favorite places to sleep was on the matt in the kitchen as you come in from outside. There were times when I could get in and shut the door before he even realized something had happened. Josef sort of scared him because of the way he moved around the house. Somehow with Lark and Audrey and Jane (and the fact that he no longer could move fast and was never seen as something to chase) he would just sit there and let them pass him by with an interested sniff and more on.....it was nice to see him not afraid. Now to watch how Wanda takes his absence. When she begged for dinner in the evening ritual her story was always that she was doing it for Gus's sake...... She will need to come up with a new line.

Hi ladies!

I'm enjoying all your posts, whether you're, as Peggy says, getting your hands dirty or showing dogs. Barbie, if you want to see a fun area of Rt. 66, I highly suggest Williams AZ. We had such a good time there and it is worth the stop. There is a train there in a campground that we stayed in that takes you to the Grand Canyon, which is well worth the ride.

We had the motorhome in shop for the past day to replace a large window and our large back awning from an injury coming south this past fall. Will never stop at that campground again. After Steve's eye doctor tomorrow, we will shop for the rest of the ingredients for Sunday's Blessing. Needless to sat, I'll be doing lots of prepping for the next few days to feed everyone that's coming. Right now the head count will be around 23. If you're in the area, no invitation is required.

Tina, So sorry for your loss of Gus. Sounds like he had a great life in spite of his fears.

Not sure where my burst of energy came from today but am taking advantage of it. I went thru my shoes and got rid of half of them (I am not a shoe hoarder tho, so there weren't that many to begin with). Then I moved on to the bathroom and did a deep clean in there. I have my new shower curtain and valance up and it really brightens it up in there!

Had my lunch out on my new patio table. I think that will get used quite a bit as long as it isn't too hot outside.

Still have time and energy so will see where I put that to use the rest of the day. :D

Aww, Tina, Gus was lucky to be rescued by you. He might not have realized it, but his life was so much better (and longer).

Barbie, I love the new table. Did you find a way to keep the umbrella there when windy?

Ty is realizing how easy it is to get treats when he does his tricks when asked. And he tries to drag me to the places with the other workers who give them to him. He shakes with his left paw. One of the ladies is seeing if he'll switch to the right paw for her. On a rare occasion he's switched for me but I've never forced it. I bet if she keeps asking, he'll start doing the paw by request.

The local grocery doesn't have meat prepackaged. I like going to the counter like days of old and picking what I want. I got 2 pork chops today, with no intentions of purchasing meat lol. I'll cook them tomorrow as I already have tonight's dinner thawed.

Tina, sorry to hear about Gus. I am sure he will be missed, even though he sounds like a bit of a "character". He had an amazingly long life for a semi-feral cat.

Really glad you are feeling up to posting so frequently. I devour all of your posts - everyone else's too. Reading posts on here is the high point of my day.

Thank you.

Anne

Everyone seems to have been very busy today. I had to go get more dirt so I could plant the last 2 tomato plants. Might be an exercise in futility if the deer everyone says we have here decide to munch on them. But I am also getting a 4ft high chain link fence installed in the upcoming month. Might deter them enough to go for the neighbors flora instead of mine. I know you need an 8ft fence but that isnt going to happen. If they eat em then I will just be a more frequent visitor of the Farmers market ha ha

Barbie everything looks great at your house. I love when I get to finish a project. Right now I have many but I have time so not worrying about it. Shirl I am busy gardening also, feels good to get out in some good weather and play in the dirt or in my case clay. Hence the growing tubs here. Tina sorry to hear about Gus but dang he didnt realize how good he had it at your house, or maybe he did and just didnt show it as much.

My friend that I stay with in Medford (another wildfire victim) is coming up to visit me this weekend. She is coming tomorrow and leaving Saturday. She bought and remodeled a house also but her house is WAY ahead of mine LOL Looking forward to her visit.

I should take notes so that when it's my turn I can remember what I was going to comment on...
so sorry about Gus a long life much longer than if they had been left on their own...
I had the best of intentions but all I did was play on FB way too long did put water in the tank and made chili and corn bread for supper. I think I over cooked the corn bread a bit dry to my liking but it was the cheap box mix I think home made is better
I like your table Barbie very cute... glad that you had a productive day you could send some my way
Beth that was the song I had heard you did good in finding it...
Irmi I wish I was in the area would so enjoy trying out your hospitality what you mention food wise always looks super yummy

I got a headache this afternoon so I didn't get much more done but it was still a productive day.

I talked to my friend Candiss who I helped move to Oregon. She hates her house (I knew that from day one) and where she is living. She has decided to sell her house and move up to Portland where her son and his family live. I think that will be good for her (altho I tried to talk her into coming back here). I know how unhappy and lonely she has been since she moved.

Supposed to be over 100* for the next 3+ days. No more open windows for the near (or probably far) future.

Good night...
