Moving towards normal

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Moving towards normal

Postby PeggyinCT » Thu Mar 11, 2021 10:05 am

Good morning Everybody. I’m baking a cake to celebrate full vaccination. I will decorate it with whipped cream and fresh Florida strawberries. I’ve invited my neighbor friend to come at three for tea and you can join us if you are fully vaccinated. The cake might taste a bit strange as I didn’t have any vegetable oil ( yes, it’s a Duncan Hines mix). I had my usual olive oil, a small bottle of pistachio oil, an unopened bottle of avocado oil and unopened coconut oil from years back when it was the rage. What to do? I combined the olive and pistachio oils to make one third of a cup and crossed my fingers....

I noticed more neighborhood kids getting on the school buses this morning, so maybe Hartford schools are fully opened. Our governor has made getting students back in school a priority and moved all school staff including custodian, kitchen staff as well as teachers to the front of the line. Mobile units are going to each school and vaccinating everybody who works in that school. 75% of us old folks are fully vaccinated! Yay, “we done good”....
Enjoy today. Peggy

A chilly 39 this morning, after a rainy day yesterday with thundershowers and a little hail. Slept only 4 hours, so looking for the energy to get up and get stuff done. Sure nice to add 0.88 inches to the rain bucket here and snow to our mountain water storage. Tomorrow I get Pfizer 2. Sure hope it doesn't wreak havoc on my BP again, if that is what caused it. Have both dentist and Dr appointments next week, so need to be well to go. Yesterday, as rain moved in, the crew got all the stumps ground.yard looks way different minus 4 trees in back and 1 in front.hoping to plant flowering bulbs, rhizomes, and annuals on the new bare hillside ? Have to start looking for sources to order. Sean, the handyman, had some nice big panels of lights he salvaged when he redid lighting in a big building, so he is hanging panels in my garage, which has never had adequate light. Now I don't need flashlight if I go out there. Even in day, it was hard to see. My county missed by 0.7 being able to go to less restrictive tier, at 10.7 cases per 100,000. Businesses are again disappointed. Other than my being more comfortable going to church 2 weeks after vaccine 2, for me there isn't a lot of advantage socially, since I don't have a social life! I'll still go to same stores as I have. Won't make travel plans with my son having health issues and aging cats and bird. Life goes on...
Have a good day all.

Rainy greetings all. Jess our high temp was much earlier this morning cause it’s cooler and raining for the last couple of hours. I was hoping for a runaway day but not as interested now. I think Barbie said yesterday she was on solar power and thought that was me too! Interesting conversation on doctors yesterday. I’m dealing with some of the same thing right now but with a woman doctor. I’ve been thinking I needed to change but since I see so little of her haven’t moved on it. PA’s are usually more to my liking. And yesterday while I was at the chiropractor I had a chance to sit down with the new NP working out of the office. She tends to take a more natural path to treating. Plus she was able to explain some of the results of a blood test I had to retaken last week. I certainly tried to ask questions when the nurse called me but didn’t get anywhere but that the doctor wanted me to see a specialist. That’s happened a couple times before. Not sure why she’s so quick to want that. Know I need to make some changes and NP and I discussed it and some steps to take. More to it all but that’s it in a nutshell. I figure I know myself pretty well and how I feel. So good to hear some remarks about vaccine! My second is a week from today and I’m looking forward to it. Again, I’ve never been so excited to get a shot! And my good friends are getting theirs the same day so we can get together and not feel quite so nervous! They are around a few more people then I am but they’re super careful too! My boys too have already gotten their second. Still kinda worried about the grands so will just have to feel that one out. And I’m hoping with the weather getting better we can be outside more to visit. Certainly something to look forward to! So that’s about all the news I have. Snow is almost all gone in the yard so I will need to get out and start cleaning up all the leaves I missed last fall. Right now my yard is looking pretty sad! Have a good day and stay safe.

Afternoon All, up early, went to daughter’s and checked out raised garden. Trying to estimate what is needed and how much. Came home ate lunch then sat on the balcony in the glorious sunshine. That lasted about 15 minutes and the sun got too hot. Lol. I was there long enough to decide I want a very small wind chime and trying to figure how to insert an umbrella in the hole of the small bistro table. Regular patio umbrella is too big but found an anywhere umbrella that tilts and is a perfect size on Amazon. Now to figure how to attach it. Have no idea where to hang the wind chime since I can’t put nail holes anywhere. This should keep me busy thinking for a while since I think very slow. :D Be safe

Shirl how about a single shepards hook? I'm not sure how it could stand on the porch though.

Ty and I had a great desert walk this morning. I wasn't expecting it since I thought the winds would already be high. If they don't get too bad maybe another this afternoon.

No more grocery runs for anything until I can fit everything from both fridges into the RV one. I have lots of good stuff to choose from.

My 2nd vaccine is two weeks from today. As many of you, I'm excited! And I'll have a week before heading to Utah in case this one gives me any reactions.

Shirl/Beth: I have a double shepherd’s hook on my deck and just used long zip ties to secure it to the railing. I had to connect a couple together to make it long enough to go around the slats of the railing. You can see them in the pic below. One hook for a hanging plant and the other for a hummingbird feeder. They also come in single hooks. Works great.

Shirl~ look for a shepherds hook that will clamp on railings. Home Depot and Lowes used to carry them, or maybe a garden center. Here's a link to what they look like in Amazon

Great ideas. Sandi, I thought of a Shepard’s hook but never thought of lashing it to the railing. Love your flowers and feeder. Cheryl, I checked and the local Lowe’s has the clamp on hook for $8.00, didn’t know there was such a thing. There is one small piece of railing about between the side wall and large post which will be perfect. Will take a ride tomorrow. Thanks so much. Another goal achieved. :D

Anita write this down. Lol

What neat ideas about the shepherds hooks. Thanks Sandi & Cheryl!

The plumbers were here today and we have running water in the casita and the kitchen faucet was installed. Later the a/c guys came and installed the split a/c system. Then the general contractor stopped by and he'll be back tomorrow to start trimming out. The electrician should be here Monday to finish their work and the furniture is supposed to be delivered Tuesday . Yay! Our kitchen faucet lights up and the blue light is on when the water is cold and when it gets hot, the light turns red. It's really kind of neat!

Sandi, trust you to come up with a solution LOL looks like a great idea. Irmi you are coming along quickly. Exciting you will be done soon. Shirl I didnt think you were against NP's, I just like them better for myself. But only if I have a good one LOL I had a NP when I broke my elbow a few years ago, never did see the doc, didnt need to, he fixed me up and I had no complaints.

Been a busy few days here. My car is packed and I am almost out of my storage unit here. I have quite a few empty tubs but my friend said I could put them in her storage unit, so will probably come down again soon and get it emptied out finally. Eye doc appt in the am then headed back home........whew busy days.

Beth and Sandi, I would never have thought of your idea! Shirl, wrote it down for sure! Now will see if it will be allowed.

Shirl, thank you for mentioning your Wayfair purchase since I've been looking at some of their items!

Irmi, almost finished! Karen, you'll soon have one more step behind you with storage empty. Peggy, how did the cake turn out?

I sat outside awhile in the sun. I think it's safe to say I have survived my first winter. Packed away the snow boots. Still below freeze nights.

I'm so excited that Sandi and others knew of the hooks for patios/railings. 8-) I was thinking of having to alter one. Now I need to see if there's a flag one for patios. The wind here, no matter how well I put the regular one up, knocks it down because the sandy ground doesn't give it a good enough fitting. Others seem to get it to work, but I haven't been able to.

Editing to say I went on Amazon and found a garden flag hanger. It's in my cart. I think I'll hang it on the casita door.

The next three days I'm guessing I'll be wearing long sleeves and leggings, but not drastically lower temps.

Was a busy day at work today. I managed to cut my finger twice today :( . Did 16 haircuts. It's been almost 6 weeks since we reopened so people are due for their next haircuts again.

Got home and saw both Spooky (black kitty) and Snoopy (black and white kitty) on my deck eating. They ran when I pulled up but came back once I was in the house. Good to see them.

The guy in my park who got the double "hole in one"s last week on our golf course was mentioned on the local news tonight on the sports report. He is 85 years old!!

Have tomorrow off and need to get to the rest of my list that I didn't get to earlier this week. I have my PT appointment in the morning first tho.

Parts of Palm Springs got a little rain overnight but we got nothing here. Could see the fresh snow on the mountains today tho. Highs have been hovering around 60 the past couple days but will be back in the 70's this weekend.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

before I forget there are umbrella's that will attach to the chair I have one for my camping chair... I went in to get a umbrella thinking I would get a huge one but the guy stirred me to this one.. more manageable for sure and easy once I figured it out took me a season to do that... I hadn't thought of the zip cord but had thought of the shepherds hook so glad all of you helped out...
so irritating I have these clothes that I can't think of the name of the company got a kit last fall and have used them... now I can't find the general cleaning one... I know where it is though it's not under the table...
they came out and washed my rig!!! looks so much better than it did... so worth the money... there was three of them working on it wash was 80 and I generously tipped ... so pleased with it
there is some work that I needed done on the 5th wheel been waiting for Terry to get here by here I mean Q he texted me today saying he still isn't here... so need to find someone else to do a couple of things... put out a phone call but he hasn't called me back...
tomorrow suppose to be less wind so going to take garbage to dumpster and then come back and get barrel and go get some water... need to fill a few gal jugs as well for the ease of watering plants and water for the birds I also keep water outside for Shadow.
didn't get as much done as I should have perhaps tomorrow will be a better day for that
what a fun faucet Irmi I think it would be cool
