Indian Summer Saturday

That is a thing here in the midwest. The sun is out the temperature are heading to the high 60's and the leaves are all crunching under our feet or flowing inside to our floors on the legs of the dogs. Crunchies are everywhere.

One of my neighbors called yesterday. She wanted to touch base to sanity. She doesn't own a dog. We went for a walk in the afternoon and she borrowed Lark for her therapy dog.

The older girls, Lark and Audrey, continue to do well in their classes, I just need to find someone to give us a private lesson so that I can learn all the finer points of what happens in the obedience rings during judges. I know that I can watch videos and read the regulations. I also watch some of the upper classes at the last trial we attended in February but individual feed back on us as a team would be the best preparation.

Seems I am successfully twiddling away my days. I am not complaining. I seem to accomplish just enough to keep me from being disappointed in my laziness. I consider it all creative pondering time. I enjoy my reading and pondering. Lark enjoys the training and the hikes more. We compromise where we can.

Jane will begin preparations for a 4 day dog show that begins next Thursday. Her grooming prep usually starts about a week a head, different steps each day so that everything comes together. The fun part are the subtle changes that occur from the first day and the 4th day on a coated (long haired) dog. The covid rules for these shows are the tightest we have experience, as it should be. Besides the masks and physical distancing requirements we have all learned to expect, there will be no hair dryers of any kind and grooming in the building is severely limited. We will be grooming here at the house and then loading the "pretties" up in our vans and driving 20 minutes up the road to the show site. We are learning new skills every day!

Lark will expect another ramble today. Hope the day comes through will potential promise for all of you.

Good morning Tina & all who follow,

Falll is so lovely in the midwest... unless it is rainy & cold as winter nears.

We are finally getting cooler temps & rain here!!! I woke up just in time this morning to take Sadie for a longer than usual walk. Rain drops started to fall as we got close to home. ;) Good solid rain & even a rumble of thunder just now!

My DIL is off every other Friday so I offered to have Olivia spend the day with me yesterday so she could have a day enjoying Jordi alone. Three zoom sessions later & I stay impressed with how the teachers & kids are doing. Turns out Olivia's a wiz at math & she sounds out words really well - both to read & to spell. The best was watching her sing & dance to a song that spelled out sight words at the end of the day. She moved her chair out of the way & danced & sang her little heart out! It is rare that we get these precious insights to their days in school.

Made a crustless quiche this morning combining what I liked about 3 recipes. Turned out yummy! Am trying to write it down before I forget what I did.

Take care everyone,
Catherine

After a night with absolutely no air moving, the winds predicted for today are here .. and will continue getting stronger. I think I'll have to change out of my sundress before Ty and I take another walk.

Tina I love how the dog shows are going ahead and keeping everyone protected at the same time.

Catherine, I'm amazed at how the teachers have adapted. They deserve a big raise (always have, but even more so now, imo).

Nothing exciting here.

Beth, many many have been cancelled, especially the ones that were scheduled to be held inside or in smaller venues were the physical separation is to problematic. Which states they are to held in also make a difference because some states have strict limits on gathering regardless of how they are planned. Luckily most this fall that I have been able to attend earlier were outside. None of the shows are allowing the public or spectators. You are expected to show up show your dog/s and leave the area...... I think there was a report of one individual coming down with the virus after the last show (over 1200 entries) but we all wore masks and we will never know when the person contacted the virus. So I will keep masking up and going along to the well run dog shows and my Krogers and my Walmart and into the local Mexican restaurant to pick up my carry out dinner......

Woke up to very little wind and sunny blue skies. Just an hour later, the winds are whipping, palm fronds are flying all over, and the dust is so heavy in the air that the mountains are completely obscured. So probably not a good day to get out my leaf blower. I have a lot of work in the porch today tho. The outside will have to look like trailer trash for another couple days. I have Monday off, so will try again then.

Doing a happy dance this morning as well... :D :D :D

Got caught in dust storm here at Valley of Fire late afternoon yesterday. My tablecloth was blowing and I had to put rocks on my rug outside, but it was too crazy to do any more than putting some quick water in my tanks for the the night. Blew all night and really rocked my motorhome because I have no levelers. Today, the temps have dropped from 87 yesterday to 66 right now, and the big news is RAIN! Real, actual rain that causes puddles, not just a few drops here and there as we had last night.

This will at least cut down on the dust. I ran out at about noon and grabbed my tablecloth, which was entwined in a bush, and rolled it up ready for the trash. I have several more, and this one is now full of stickers and burrs, so not worth saving. I am leaving tomorrow for Boulder Beach and have enough water for tonight. I think I might wrap up my hoses and put them away tonight if the rain stops and there is not dust blowing. I hope Grand Canyon and Zion got some rain for the animals. They have been scrounging for food in this drought. You could count ribs of the deer in Zion. Elk in Grand Canyon looked a little better, but were eating sticks and really, really thirsty.

Funny thing--when I came in late afternoon yesterday after getting caught in dust storm, I wiped off my legs and arms with a wet paper towel and it was pink with dust!!

Oh, lesson learned for today. You cannot store those little individual cups of applesauce in a drawer when you go up and down elevations and do a lot of driving over bumps or whatever. I had four that leaked and caused a real mess, so had to clean out food storage drawer. Next time, I will at least put them in a plastic bag.

I really don't like the idea of eating in a restaurant but went and met my sister. We went to the Texas Roadhouse. You don't get a menu or salt and pepper. There is something on the wall you are suppose to scan with your phone to get a menu. I don't know what they do if you can't do that. I decided to go to Sam's . Sam's wasn't too bad but it took me 30 minutes to get to Home Depot. The powers that be have decided to close one lane near the busiest intersection in Lafayette and do road work. It takes 3 or 4 light changes to get through an intersection. The traffic is just going to get worse from now to Christmas.

It rained for a little while. It looks like there is more rain just to the East. They still don't know what Eta is going to do. The guy that has the land across the road was in high gear yesterday getting ready to bail hay. It looks like he got it bailed before the rain.

I'm happy too, Barbie.

We didn't get a lot, but we got rain also... The roads are wet. Funny thing is I had walked Ty and then took a shower. The rain must have come while I had the doors closed and my hearing aids out. It was after I fed Ty and looked outside that I noticed everything wet. The birds are so happy. They are singing up a storm. Now it's getting dark and they will head to their nests.

Did get rid of some stuff in the porch including empty Amazon boxes and other trash. Have a couple boxes of stuff for the thrift store. There is so much dust and sand in the porch from blowing thru the windows all summer! I had to wear my mask out there since everything is covered in it. Once I get it cleaned up, I need to keep the windows closed most of the time. I cut my pinkie finger with a box cutter while cutting down boxes. Just a small cut but was really bleeding! Very sore tonight! Luckily, won't affect cutting hair.

Been watching TV most of the day. A lot of celebrating all over.

Back to work tomorrow. Have Monday off, so will try again to work on the deck and yard then. Will still be cool but hopefully not so windy. My painter never showed up. I have another painter to contact on Monday. I don't have time for people who are not reliable.

Have a great night! I know I will sleep good tonight! :D

Good evening. I am staying at my house for several days as I have lots of deliveries coming so I need to be here. Bought a couple tv's got em in my car and out, dragged them in to the house by myself. Spectrum coming on Wed so will have tv and internet. I have one tv hooked up to a UHV antenna in the window so getting a few channels. Nothing good tho. Lowe's is delivering my stove tomorrow. They are right across the street so figured I would be first or last. I'm last, will be here between 5:30 and 9:30 pm. LOL. Way past my bedtime.
I have been in cardboard and Styrofoam hell. We have no dumpster for cardboard here. When I was complaining about that at the furniture store the other day they said just throw it in ours out back, they have a huge garbage dumpster too and said feel free to use it for garbage so I made 2 trips over there today. Whew got rid of all the cardboard and styrofoam but now I got 2 more boxes of shelving so more boxes.
Decided I needed some food today so went to the market for a few things to tide me over a few days. I was at Lowes at 6:30 this morning checking on my stove delivery and some light bulbs then had to wait a few minutes for the grocery store to open. Ha ha
Will be glad when Wednesday comes and I get some of my furniture. This camp chair isn't cutting it.
