Monday, Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, Monday

Something wrong with this picture, I'm up way too early! Coffee ready but must remind you, I make it on the strong side. No goodies yet.

It is much too cold here for April, in the low 40s this AM, after a week of 70s it really feels cold.

Sunshinecrusier and mtngal reports good news toward getting closer to hitting the road. Way to go girls! Fernie also had good report on family situation. Nasoosie is basking in the warm FL sun. Beth and Sparkle off on another adventure. You will have to look up all the posts for details.

Time for another cup of coffee. Wishing you a good, warm day and safe journey.

Coffee will be good, didn't get any yesterday! I just took my pills so can't eat any goodies yet anyways for at least 30 minutes. I'm surprised I can move today after all the work moving snow. We snow blowed and plowed with the tractor for hours yesterday, finally did reach the cattle across the road about noon for feeding then fed them again in the late afternoon since they didn't get any hay the day before. I think they are all ok, weather the storm well enough.

Our whole region was socked in tight - all the roads closed yesterday morning. The weather channel talked about some areas east of us getting 15 inches but our guess is on our place in the extreme NW panhandle of Nebraska we got 24+inches out on the level with drifts 5 to 8 feet in some places. The snow plow/county road maintainer didn't make it to our road yesterday but should today or tomorrow. I imagine the crews had quite a job cut out for them with so much snow in the area -- all the roads were blocked not just ours. Our road is the lowest priority road in the country because it's so remote and only hase one inhabited farm on it. However that is changing - the new people from Ill. that arrived Friday night (before the storm) then us makes 3 households so...we'll have to bug the road commissioner to keep us in better shape.

It's cool out this AM -- 15, cold enough our kitchen sink lines froze again because we couldn't pull in the big slideout -- a 4 foot drift on the roof makes a difference -- we should have pulled it in Friday night. Our here you stay prepared for anything so not pulling in the slide was a big mistake. If we didn't have the big John Deere 720 with snow plow and self propelled snow blower we'd be sunk. The ATV was useless and the little Ford tractor doesn't have weights to hold the back end down. You can bet we may find a loader attachment & chains for the even bigger John Deere 820 and find weights for the Ford.

So, we've had an interesting weekend. It's no surprise we were due for a big spring storm and maybe this is it! Someday we'll see bare ground but I bet we see remnants of these drifts for quite a while. We still had drifts left from the last storm 2 1/2 weeks ago! But, it's winter-spring and come about June it will be summer. My Dad says there are only 2 seasons here "winter and the 4th of July"/either hot or cold nothing inbetween! And that's about true -- spring and fall like weather other regions experience just does not hold true here -- we go right from boiling hot to snow and cold then back to hot. No complaints here really -- it's home and we don't mind it! It's just weather and hubby and I both love weather -- love to watch it snow, rain, wind blow, etc. At least we are away from all that city junk -- traffic, smog, crime, shopping centers, pavement, crowds...time to put on some more coffee.....have a great week everyone!
