Dreary Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Dreary Saturday

Good morning ladies. Opps, guess it’s really just afternoon here! We had rain last night but only enough to wet the leaves in the yard and driveway. I’ve already taken about 2 dozen large contractor bags to the dump! Enough already and the trees are still dropping them! We’ve apparently had our last taste of warm temps for this fall and now they’ll be going down. Cold nights for sure so glad Lola is buttoned up. Of course I’ll go out and visit her once in awhile and exercise her once in awhile and dream of warmer weather and hopefully a better travel season next year. An interesting site popped up on my FB page the other day and I’ve been having fun on his website too. He travels all over PA and shows all sorts of interesting places to explore. I’ve said for a long time I wouldn’t even have to leave the state to see places and I probably couldn’t see them all! I got my car back yesterday and surprisingly I didn’t really even miss it a whole lot! Getting kinda used to staying in place, I guess! Admittedly a friend and I did take a day trip the other day and since she drove I got to just look out the window and enjoy the scenery. A real treat for me since I usually seem to drive when we go somewhere! Judi, hope you don’t have snow to drive south in! Karen, exciting news that your carpet is going down and you be able to start moving in. Beth, how’s the gardening going? Sounds like quite a task! Irmi, hope things quiet down for you soon. And Tina, sounds like Alice is on her way! Know I’m missing a few of you but enjoy reading about your adventures. Time to finally get moving here and try to get the never ending housework done. I’ve gotten sidetracked in the closets but at least weeding out more things I don’t wear anymore. Work clothes need to go since I live in jeans! Hope you all have a great day and weekend. Stay safe.

GM Sharon and all who follow. I haven't started on outside work yet. It's supposed to be cooler (cold mornings) this coming Monday through Wednesday. So I've pegged those days for that. Meantime I'm going through storage. I've gotten rid of old paperwork (several years of tax returns included) and being a bum. Yep, a bum. Heck I'm already watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

Weather here is cloudy and off and on rain shower. Not much actually but 57° outside, very pleasant. Today is paperwork organization day for me. I have it tucked all over for some reason. Then will pack up some stuff to take up to Roseburg on Monday. I see Hallmark Christmas movies on today too.

Very cold last night, just above freezing but supposed to be getting even colder tonight and tomorrow, so I will have to put my remote thermometer in the utility compartment and unhook my water hose.

Yesterday, one of the elk turned on the water tap at the empty site next to me. I did not see her turn it on, but the lady on the other side told me. I did get a good photo of one elk drinking. The elk that turned the water on drank first and would not let a second elk drink until she was done. The second one did have a nice, long drink and then left. But of course, she did not turn the water off, so we had to do it! The water pipe is surrounded by a cement pad that has a slight indent in the middle so it was easy for the elk to drink from the depression.

Have seen only female elk in trailer village. They look OK, or at least better than the deer in Zion who were extremely skinny. The drought in this area has been hard on the animals.

After some food, I am going out bike riding. Shuttles only around the rim, so have to ride bike in village. It will be 69 today and 64 tomorrow, but then in 40s, so I have to take advantage of "warm" weather while I can.

Good afternoon!

My winter adventure has begun - snow! Temps will be low the next few nights - 17 to 20 degrees. I don't move to KOA until next Saturday.

Thinking Sue and I can compare winter notes this year - she's at 45th parallel and I'm at 47th.

My grandson and his girlfriend came last weekend. Had a great time and lots of laughs.

Karen, so glad things are moving along! After you mentioned replacing your Roomba, I bought one. It arrived at my daughter's last weekend while I was there. She had a blast trying it out - it's still there! :D

Sheila, I'll be glad when you are safely settled in Q! Beth you can hang pictures any way you want! :D I'm looking forward to having some prints made from my travels to hang. Irmi, sorry about the family stuff but happy you are getting settled at the new place. Judy, love the elk!

Hope you all have a nice day. Be safe!

It started out gray this morning but the sun has come out now. It got down to 67 last night.

One of the cats made a mess in the bathroom with the cat litter and that got me started cleaning house. I washed three loads of clothes. Anita, you might not get your Roomba back. lol I like mine a lot. It can really pick up the cat hair.

Last week I cooked some hamburger patties in onion gravy. It was so good I decided to make it again. The recipe called for a 1/2 cup of mushrooms. I didn't have anything to do with the rest of the mushrooms so I dumped the whole box in. That's probably why my recipes come out different every time.

Judy, the campground should put a water trough some where out of the way so the Elk don't have to water themselves. When I was feeding the outside cats this morning I looked up and all the calves were lined up along the fence looking at me. They wanted to be fed too.

Beth, now you can enjoy your pictures. I bought a painting at a tent sale at the mall probably 25 years ago. I loved that picture but it burnt when our office building burned. I have been looking for one like it ever since. I can find many beach pictures but not one that I like as much. I bought an oil painting at the May Festival Flea Market when my son was still in school. It is a swamp scene that looks like it was probably painted in an art class. It was professionally framed so the frame was worth more than the picture but I like it. I don't remember what price they had on it but right before they closed it was marked down to $15 so I bought it. The guy that ran Harold's parent's country store was an artist. Harold's old barns were in some of his paintings. He painted Harold on a horse he loved. It hung in his mother's house until Hurricane Rita and his daughter took it. The guy didn't know how to paint horses so I never did like it.

If I can find a can of off I think I'll go fishing. The mosquitoes aren't quite as bad as they were. The news paper said that the Air Force was helping to spray for mosquitoes in South Louisiana. After the two hurricanes they were terrible. All the water from Delta hasn't drained off yet. The main roads are clear but the the fields and side roads are still under water.

It's been a nice sunny day here, but we sure could use rain. Alas, none in sight !
And Ta Da! I have lights. After paying a bundle for my handyman plus 2 different electricians, Sean crawled under Mel's desk last night, because I thought there was a plug outlet there. He found a gfi I had no clue was there! Pushed reset and lights and fan and porch lights all back on! Sigh. An expensive lesson.
We made Doritos bowls last night that we both really liked. It will go on our repeat list! I'll detail it in recipe page.
Next Wednesday I have recheck with eye Dr to see if we can schedule right eye for cornea smoothing. Really hope to get that done so I can have it healed before thanksgiving.
Stay warm and safe everyone.

Had the windows open over night. No wind but was comfortably cool. I could smell smoke in the air tho. Was cloudy when I got up which was actually smoke. Not sure where it is coming from since I thought they had most of the fires around LA mostly put out by now. The Santa Anna winds are supposed to be really bad tomorrow all across the whole state so there are high fire warnings all over. Possible intentional power outages will occur to keep fires from starting from transformers and power lines because of the high winds.

Was slow at work today. Got my hair cut. I am still planning to grow it out but needed to get some of the bulk out of it. Looks really nice.

I got home and ran my fingernails lightly over the test area I painted on the trim. The paint came right off. Arghh!! Back to square one with no idea what to do to get the paint to stick.

You can see how textured the trim is and why I can't sand it:

I hate that it is getting so dark so early, and next week will be even worse when we turn the clocks back. CA voted to do away with the change but so far it hasn't happened.

Just watching ice dancing tonight. Love watching that. My favorite kind of skating to watch.

Wow! The Santa Anna winds just arrived!! Very windy out there now! I hear stuff blowing around all over. Had to go out and secure the door on my electrical breaker box that was banging in the wind. I heard winds in Northern CA could be up to 100 mph tonight and tomorrow. That won't be good for the fires that are still burning or new ones. All emergency and fire personnel are on high alert and ready for action.

I am with you Anita will be glad when I am in Q as well.
Today is my 50th anniversary a day that when we first got married wondered if I would make it to and then when Larry died in our 41 year (he died in June our 42 anniversary would have been the following Oct) and I have been dreading it in many ways sorta a bitter sweet day in that I truly wish he was here to celebrate with me... and dreading not doing anything either... my kids planned a picnic!!! to surprise me...I had hopes sorta wondered and was so happy to see it happen...all my kids were there... and several of the 14 grandkids that we have... some had to work my military kids were to far away... that type of excuse  5 weren't there... it was so neat to be together we went to an old favorite park that we used to spend time at... so sad though that they felt they couldn't let the kids play on the play ground equipment (the number's have take a rise) but it still was good to see them .... they brought KFC son a bit of a rebel brought Pollo ... my youngest brought me a 4 pack of Martinelle's (of course non-alcoholic) so if I want to "tie one on" I could  little bottles individual size... and my eldest daughter made applesauce cookies which was Larry's favorite cookie... and they picked up a cake because they knew it's not my favorite cookie one I can eat one of and not be tempted... I can't explain it as pumpkin chocolate chip is one I love and the texture is much the same...
had good news in that my granddaughter in the marines, whose husband who has been deployed for several months now has her husband at home with her... so happy for her ... he is home in quarantine you would think they would have to quarantine some where else first but he is with her..... thrilled that he is home safe and sound
wow Velda after all that so glad your handy man found the right thing so sorry it was such an expensive find though... as you said it won't be forgotten...
I got home late so it is almost midnight and even though I don't go to bed till later am tired tonight may make it a bit earlier than usual...
and it's so windy tonight... dread taking Shadow out later...
you all have a great day

Barbie, did you prep by washing with TSP- tri sodium phosphate? There is a 3m scotch guard type brush thing you can put on end of your power drill which might get in those crevices. I got a set for my drill to use in shower, on tire rims, any place requiring heavy scrubbing.
We haven't heard of any predictions of 100 mph winds. Been slightly breezy here, mostly quiet. Amd very dry.

Hi Barbie.

The current wind predictions I am hearing are for 70 mph, which is bad enough. On the other hand, if the winds get really cranking all bets are off.

Have posted a few fire watch links on the "California Apocalypse" thread.

The news is grim.

About your painting problem - if you try to paint water-based paint over oil-based paint it will almost never stick. And it is sometimes difficult to know what kind of paint was there in the first place. See if you can get a small sample of some oil-based paint and see if that will stick. Or you could try doing an "acid wash" (i.e., full-strength vinegar - let it dry, then wash the area well to remove any residue before you paint) on the paint that is already there, then see if the paint you have will stick after the acid wash.

Painting is NOT my favorite thing to do, although I have done more than my fair share over the years.

Good luck!
