Monday rise and shine!

I am up late, so it’s very early Monday morning. Son and I have been following the bad and growing fire in Napa county. It began around 0400 Sunday morning and by evening was ripping through trees and brush and homes and vineyards. Heading into edge of St Helena and towards Santa Rosa. Winds blowing fiercely. I expect we will get smoky again. Sure hope everyone got out. If that’s not bad enough, Paradise is under evacuation again! North Complex Fire headed that direction. We sure could use rain.
Today I have Curves and Bowen therapy. Plus calls to make in between. Tuesday, I’m stocking up at Costco and grocery as I won’t be driving for a couple weeks apparently.
Hope all are sleeping well at this late/ early hour.

As you say, Velda, terrible news about the fire in Napa County. Here we go again, unfortunately. I was up late last night too, and was very concerned when I saw this on the news at about 2:00 a.m.

I can't imagine people being roused out of a sound sleep so that they can run for their lives. Horrible.

Looking at this map (this is a "live" map, and will constantly be updated),

https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/%3F/38.5099/-122.5718/12

It looks like this fire is now burning within subdivisions on the outskirts of Santa Rosa (site of another terrible fire, I think three years ago) and is also on the point of burning into the small tourist town of Calistoga.

I hope firefighters can get it stopped.

Good Morning, I have finished my 30 minutes on the treadmill. Shirl good memories of WW2. I too remember rationing. We did not have a car because we couldn’t get enough gas to drive it. My Mom was desperate for sugar for her coffee, and, somehow my Grandmother got her some sugar. My Dad joined the volunteer Coast Guard and patrolled San Diego Bay from Midnight until 6/8 AM. He loved his CG uniform! My Mom worked days and my Dad worked swing shift. Dad did all the shopping with the coupons. Fun, fond memories.
Thanks, Annie for maps of latest fire reports. As my daughter lived in Healdsburg for many years, she has friends in the Santa Rosa area.
I am only 27 points behind in my football pool for 1st place going into tonight’s game. However, if I get those 27 points, I knock my daughter out of 1st place. Mixed emotions!

At least with daylight, planes will be making non stop runs with fire retardant and water. I hope everyone got out in time.

I am very familiar with that area. The problem is that the fire jumped route 12, which is the main road on the western side of the valley. Once on the other side of 12, there is only about half a mile of vineyards, and then the mountain range that separates Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley is covered with large pine and hardwood trees--very heavily wooded. Most importantly, however, it is an area where the really wealthy people have homes. You cannot see them in the daytime, but at night, there are lots of lights in those hills. This is NOT an area that people would thin the forest because the forest is what makes this a desirable place to live if you have a few millions to spare!

Plus, there are a lot of winding and steep roads in that area, which would make it hard for fire fighters, etc. Also, hard to get out of. That ridge of hills goes all the way from Napa city to Calistoga, so there is a lot to burn. And the St. Helena area produces some of the prime grapes in the valley, so I hope they have been harvesting.

It looks like the fire just skimmed the town of St. Helena.

Oh dear. :(

This map link

https://maps.nwcg.gov/sa/#/%3F/%3F/38.5014/-122.4711/13

(this map is "live" and will update) seems to indicate that the fire has burned directly through the town of St. Helena.

I hope I'm wrong.

Good news is that the Culinary Institute of America, just north of St. Helena, has survived with no damage. They had 119 students in their dorms who evacuated. It is in an historic stone building which was originally the Christian Brothers Winery way back when.

My son says town of St. Helena is fine, but fire is still spreading in the hills between Napa Valley and SOnoma. Big problem is that high today was 102 and expected to be 93 tomorrow. Most damage was in the vineyards and in the hills where there are a lot of expensive homes and small wineries. Not only are the vineyards burning, but also the buildings that crush and store the wine. Napa is strange in that wine vineyards are very valuable, which is why the land in the valley and on the hills will never be developed. So, damage to them is very expensive.

thought I had my MIFI figured out so took the computer down to the trailer and of course I was wrong... ended up using the phone for chat... so back at the house on their wifi hopefully sometime soon someone can help me out..it said I didn't have a data plan...
it was a pretty day today not as windy as it has been didn't go over to mom's though dd said that she needed to help her dil take some stuff to the thrift store if she did I don't know when perhaps early as whenever I was out the car was there ... but perhaps they couldn't find any place to take it too the earliest the one we would normally go was on Thurs (have to make an appointment right now).
Need to go find a place to get glasses... both glasses are broken... so using my prescription sunglasses... not fun when it is dark... some of you get glasses on line how does that work???
keep thinking I did something today but as I think back other than work out the pattern on the quilt so hopefully it will go smoother than it has been... we can only hope... not sure I am liking the yarn but got it for it's color and then I pull out the white don't like it at all not the color but the feel so not sure what I will do ... guess finish the heart first then do the white and either do it in a totally different yarn or make a trip to Idaho Falls for glasses and yarn...
did sign up for roadside assistance it was time and I also signed up for emergency
assist in getting the trailer "home" if necessary... It also does emergency flight to drs if needed... it was only 50 dollars not bad at all
and talked with my sister in law amazing that her knee replacement was an in and out or would have been but her blood sugar tanked and she spent the night in hospital due to that... guess I will go find something to eat and make my way down to the trailer it's dark and will be even darker with sunglasses on ..
you all have a good night

We also have another fast moving fire that started today just north of LA. The Santa Ana winds are not helping the fire situation at all. I read that up north there are a lot of large marijuana farms (legal) that are being threatened by fire and the people running them are refusing to evacuate. Not a good decision. Not sure what they think they can accomplish by staying. They have been warned that no one will try to rescue them if they choose to stay.

Was fairly slow at work today but tips were good with the few haircuts I did.

Another long day tomorrow. Tuesdays are typically our slowest day of the week. As long as I keep getting $10 and $20 tips, I don't mind too much tho. :D

Good night!
