I AM SAFE BUT SO SURREAL

Thought I would update you on my current status.
Tuesday they had a fire start in Ashland (7 miles away) it was a very windy day and I was watching the smoke and it was getting darker and darker and closer. I watched a helicopter dump water and it looked fairly close so I assumed they would just put it out. Half an hour later a policeman is IN my house telling me to GET OUT NOW. Grabbed the dog threw a change of clothes in and my laptop. That was it. My neighbor's daughter lives in Medford and she insisted I come to with her Mom. Such a great family. So we spent the night there then they got a Level 3 evac notice but she lives a couple of blocks behind one of our big hospitals and I knew they would protect that first. So we took off at 5am and headed north to Grants Pass. Found a hotel room for one night but couldnt check in until 4pm. So we sat in the parking lot (in the shade) and made our phone calls to our insurance companies. When I called mine I actually got a live person to talk to who took my claim info and said an adjuster would call me this week. ALE solutions (whover they are) called me regarding housing. So they called this hotel and I can stay here until October 23rd. I want to be closer to Medford but of course with so many houses burnt in Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford and Central Point I have to stay here for now.

Had to go shopping yesterday for the essentials...toiletries, couple changes of clothing, jammies, dog food and dog dishes. Still need more things but that will get me thru for a few days.

Laura has been in contact with me keeping me updated on what is happening at my home area and I have been passing that info on to all my other displaced neighbors. She is truly a great friend. I have also read all your messages and well wishes that does my heart good for sure. You are all very supportive. I am devastated of course and need time to figure things out but I know it will all work out. The part that bothers me the most is I dont even have an address. But of course Laura said I can use hers.........works for me.

My Motorhome is safe it was quite a ways out of the fire area in Medford. They lost 2 RV's I hear in our storage lot. All with propane tanks so think there is damage from the heat to the ones that didnt get out I suspect but I am sure they didnt want them blowing up. They had enough of that from all our BBQ's I am sure. There was 162 homes there plus our beautiful Clubhouse. Pool is there and the big chimney is all that is left standing. I still cannot get back in there it is blocked on my exit and not allowing people in due to still lots of spot fires going on so not sure when I can go see if anything salvageable (I doubt it). This is the first time I have been able to get on my computer but will keep you all updated on my status as I can.

AGAIN I truly love you all.

Karen, so sorry you lost your house and everything. At least in my disasters things usually only get wet. Fire is so final. When our house flooded 15 years ago I didn't sleep much for weeks. Just take it slow and things will work out.

One day at a time... so frightening to read about the destruction, I can’t imagine what it felt like to be there, and realize it’s your house and your lives in danger. I’m glad to hear that your insurance company is helping with the practical things first and found you a safe place to stay and “figure things out.”

And so glad that you have close friends nearby to help and give support. And you know you have many more friends here. We love you too.
