And Now Tuesday Again

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

And Now Tuesday Again

Postby BirdbyBird » Tue Aug 25, 2020 10:19 am

Just opening up here just in case it matters. We all know to bring our own cups and beverages right?

Hoping all stay safe out there. listening to weather news means a lot more because your voices make it even more real.

RV is back from the mechanic and now out to the RV fixit guy. The first biggie is she is getting a new Propane tank. I feel much better about the prospect of safely using the propane on board now. My repair guy is a solo mechanic running his own shop. Years ago he used to work at an RV dealership....and worked on Roadtreks probably back in the time of my rig's youth. The rig is a 2001C190P.

Now back to talking to the sewing machine and making up some curtains. Though I acknowledge that many sewing skills did seem to come back effortlessly, I am also remembering why I never took up sewing as a long standing hobby. I build up my self esteem reminding myself that I do know how to groom Golden Retrievers and English Cockers and there was that 30+ years as an educator and administrator. Apparently my skill set/s is specialized.

Just waving from here to those that post and those that lurk. Come on lurkers, you read this stuff, you can't say you don't post because nothing is happening. Well you can say it, but if it was a valid reason, there would be little of nothing ever posted here. Most of life is made up of small moments....... There are no ordinary moments. This is it. It is like finding the glittery stones and shells on the beach. They get out attention because we have learned to appreciate all of the beach.

Good morning. I am watching the weather and it is sure not looking good, Laura is picking up intensity. Hope Martha can stay safe. Also Chris and Al in Houston. Between keeping track of the fires and watching the hurricane none of the news is good. Had some trouble with my coffee maker this morning so after a thorough cleaning and a bit of a trial I finally got a good cup of java...whew. Not sure what today will bring. We had a couple of heavy sprinkles of rain but not enough to get excited over. Of course my auto sprinklers came on LOL but that is a good thing after battling with them for 2 weeks. Now all is good.

We are very smoky today. More than we have had. Smoke is drifting up and over the mountains today. It certainly isn't as bad as it was a couple years ago when we had lots of big fires here in Oregon and then the Carr and Camp fires in California, I could barely see across the street. All our outdoor activities were cancelled for that year, much like this year except for the Covid reasons. Our county Covid numbers are climbing for positive tests but not deaths. I am not sure I understand why as we are under mandated mask wearing and the stores are being very vigilant enforcing this. The theory is family and friends gathering without proper social distancing and masks. I will just continue to pretty much hunker down. What else can ya do.

Still hanging out here in smoky northern California. At least it's 10 degrees cooler than a week ago. I've got my water to drink. I never have been a hot beverage person except a few cups of hot tea in mid winter. It's always good to sit down in the morning with my friends here.
Wth so much fire news, I haven't even seen storm reports for the eastern states. Sure hope all there can find safe refuge.
Not planning to go out today again, except to put trash can at street. Sure hope skies begin to clear by Thursday because I really need to get to Costco for chicken for Stormy cat and a few other things. So far I'm only needing a very small dose of inhalers to keep my capacity where it should be to avoid another 2014 situation , where in August that year, micro fine particulate from the King fire, overwhelmed my lungs and I spent a night in the hospital, with stupid ER Dr insisting I may have had a heart attack (even though every test he did showed I hadn't). I knew it was my lungs and if he had just listened and ordered a breathing treatment at hospital strength, I might have gone home sooner! This time I pre treated to avoid plus have stayed in barely opening the door for seconds at a time, so far so good, plus well the 60 lb weight loss makes a difference too.
I haven't sewed much in recent years, though I know how. It just never was a favorite hobby. Maybe this winter i will when I finally get my machine out and do a few small projects.
Do you take any hobbys to fill spare time when kept in your RV for weather? I plan to take watercolors and stamps to do scenes from what I see. That is, if the world becomes more accessible again!
Have a good day everyone.

Tina, glad you found an independent RV mechanic. It took a long time to find them but I have 2 places I trust. There are so many horror stories about RV's brought to dealers for repairs. I know there were times I brought my motorhome in for several things and when I picked it up maybe one thing was done.

I am still working on my list of things to do. Every time I go out I load something in the truck to bring. If the storm keeps going the way they say right now there will probably be a storm surge like we had from Hurricane Rita. It's going to be a mess to clean up but hopefully anything low enough to flood isn't important.

I wish I knew how to get the D-Link cameras I have to work. I use to be able to access them remotely from my computer. Would sure like to see what is going on while I'm gone.

Better get back to packing.

It is hot, hot, hot in here! My AC quit overnight! :o It felt warm in here this morning when I woke up so I checked the thermostat. It was set to 73 but was 82 in here. Couldn't get it to turn on. Called the guy I had out here last year and he was able to get here right away. He changed out the filter and added some freon. He said to run just the fan for an hour since the AC was iced up to give it a chance to thaw out and then turn the AC back on. So now the fan is supposedly on but I am not hearing it at all. It is 90 in here right now. I have all the blinds pulled and curtains drawn and a fan on me. Will see what happens when I try to turn on the AC in awhile. It cost me $300. He says I will for sure need a new AC unit within the next year. The mini split will cost about $4K to $5K. I hope I don't have to call him back again today. The high today will be 115 and is already 110 or so.

Martha, what do you do with all the cats?

I just remembered I have a portable AC unit in my porch. I brought that into my bedroom. The only problem is, even tho the cold air is coming out the front, hot air is blowing out the back. There is supposed to be a tube that goes out a window for that but I don't have one long enough to reach a window from where it is at. I just have it blowing the hot air out into the kitchen.

Oh gads, I had a problem with my new iPad. Contacted Apple, and they fixed me right away. Don’t know why it took me so long to figure out to contact them!
No smoke down here in my left coast city.
Martha, keeping my fingers crossed for your safety. You are going to your son’s? Where does he live, and don’t wait too long.
The new is also horrible about the people rioting.....hope that isn’t political!
Tina , that was brilliant!!!
Now to watch one of my favorite TV shows...which I will not name...unless u PM me.

One of the real benefits of owning an RV is that you can use it to evacuate and then live fairly comfortably once you get to someplace safe. Plus, you can take more stuff with you than you could in the trunk of your car. And with COVID-19, you won't have to be exposed to a bunch of potentially sick people.

I really slept in today--partly because I got to sleep so late and partly because I was up at 6:30 am for an hour with a call from the Georgia pharmacy company I had tried to get ahold of yesterday. Really upsets your morning when you have to sound relatively awake when you really are NOT completely awake!

Been doing a little genealogical research and was able to trace one branch of my family back to 1600. Hit pay dirt when I confirmed one person as a grandparent and then could use an incredible online book that was compiled in 1812 and has all of the baptisms, marriages, and burials for a tiny village (and tiny country church) in Yorkshire from 1585-1812. I went to that church in 2018 and want to go back to take photos of churchyard graves.

Back to organizing records and documenting my POA responsibilities.

there are days when I plan on things to do and do nothing but go to the dentist not my favorite pass time... but the tooth area is fixed ( it came out during the night) it was a cap with a root canal so the solution was to extract it or to clean it up and put a filling cap over it he said if I was his mom that is what he would suggest so we did that just under a hundred but I think the extraction would have been more painful and cost a lot more... so now I can eat...
it seems like I can justify not doing something really easily
forgot to take my phone with me and now as I came up to the house forgot it again..not even plugged in at least when I went to the dentist it was plugged in....
had a bit of wind go through now it looks like it might be raining or maybe it is over... and we could see the Teton's today it's funny how it will be hazy all day see nothing...but go out late at night and there will be star's not as many but you can see the star's...
you all have a great day

Well, no fan on the AC when I turned it on. I called the guy back and he came back out a couple hours later. Meanwhile, Lola and I spent that time next door with my neighbor staying cool. :D

The fan was indeed not working so he figured out it was a small part that needed to be replaced. He said my AC is one of the oldest he has seen in the park here and was amazed it was still running. It is almost 30 years old. Once he got the fan fixed he said it was running very poorly and he thinks the motor is failing on it. If that goes out, I have to replace the whole AC unit. It is working now but I can tell the fan is not putting out a lot of air like usual, so it will be slow in cooling it off in here. I think tonight I will close all of the vents except the bedroom vent so it gets cooler in there where I need it most, and then open them in the morning before it starts heating up outside.

When the AC quits for good, I will get a dual mini-split that goes on the wall, one unit in the living room and one in the bedroom. They are much more energy efficient and cost about the same as a regular AC system. Each unit can be controlled by a remote and can be set individually as needed. They use a lot less electricity as well. There is a nice space above one of the windows in the living room for it but the only space in the bedroom is above one of the windows that has that big boxy wooden valance over it (the ones I originally wanted to remove anyways). So I am having my maintenance guy come by tomorrow to see if he can remove it to make room for the mini-split unit once I need to have it installed. I am sure removing the valance will damage the wall around it so I can get that repaired before I need to get that put in.

Judy, that is really cool about your ancestors! To go back that far is amazing! I know very little beyond the names of my great grandparents.

actually accomplished something today which is a miracle. and it wasn't just sitting a reading a book although that was tempting...
now am up doing whatever on the computer checking in on you all...
that is too bad Barbie that you are having A/C problems not the right time of the year for that to happen. It's debatable which would be best to be proactive and go get the unit and have it taken care of before it becomes a have too and can't find one or to hope that it lasts till you heat ends and you can find one perhaps on a discount because it's off season... :?
we are heading into the cooler season which I am not ready for but it does happen every year
my parents anniversary is tomorrow I had to pull out the calculator they would have been married 75 years .... I didn't remember that they were married 25 years before Larry and I were our 50th will be in Oct...for some reason it was in my plans to have my husband with me when that anniversary arrived...but plans do change
need to take my clothes down to the trailer and fold and put them away
but wanted to play on the computer some first
you all have a good day
