I am in a kind of "holding pattern" with Joe. I brush his teeth regularly, so I was quick to notice that he had a suddenly discolored upper canine tooth. This was not due to plaque, but due to some kind of injury. I, of course, Googled what it might be when I first noticed it, and succeeded in giving myself a complete panic attack.

I am still pretty upset that I may have been the cause of it. He tripped and fell on the back steps - two steps down from the back door to the back patio - due to my inattention (lucky I didn't fall on top of him). Basically, my fault This may or may not have have been the cause - I don't remember him hitting the side of his face - but there you are.

I took him to my vet on Thursday, July 16. This was the first time I had been out of my house since March 18. I am quite concerned about the virus - it is spreading rapidly in my rural area, but not so rapidly as it is in the big cities here in Northern California. I was pretty much dressed like a space cadet - long sleeves, long pants, hair covering, mask, gloves, goggles - basically the works.

The vet said what I already knew by now - that there was some kind of injury to the tooth (it is lack of blood flow to the tooth that causes the sudden discoloration). The vet did not seem too concerned. He said that this was a fairly common thing to happen with dogs (although I have never had this happen to one of my dogs in my life) and that if the tooth gets loose, or seems to cause him pain, the tooth can then be pulled. He said there was nothing that needed to be done "right now".

He said that I just "need to keep an eye on it". Also, that sometimes this happens (a tooth discolors) and there isn't a further problem.

Although I am still worried, the vet has allayed my fears a bit. Joe will soon be eight years old, and I don't like the thought of tooth pulls and the attendant anesthesia on an older dog. It freaks me out. I like even less the thought of an emergency visit to U.C. Davis during a pandemic for canine oral surgery. Thus far, knock wood, the tooth doesn't seem to bother him.

I don't know whether to continue to toss the Kong for him in the backyard or not - he LOVES to chase his Kong (just now, his only source of exercise since long walks around the neighborhood are out - NO ONE here wears a mask), and always carries it around with him in the house (and gets very anxious when he sometimes misplaces it).

Will Kong-tossing (he will jump into the air to chomp and catch it) exacerbate the tooth problem? Or not? I dunno. Should I eliminate all instances of Kong-toss? I dunno.

I try to tell myself "it is what it is" and just hope for the best. That really is all that I can do.

As of today, it has been four months at home for me. I really have done fairly well up until now (surprised myself, even) but my sleep cycles are beginning to severely degrade, and, no doubt due to this, I am beginning to suffer from frequent bouts of "the weepies". Which, of course, are the absolute and utter pits.

I need to find some new things to do to keep myself sane. But all I really want to do is sit on the couch. And I have never been a couch-sitter. The tv is not my friend.

LOL. That's the cheerful news from Northern California!

Yes, Sarah's loss of her baby is devastating.

Anne, I would keep tossing the Kong. It sounds like it gives him so much pleasure. But I understand the dilemma.

After the 98 degree heat, heat index was higher, I needed a sweatshirt walking Ty this morning! It was 70 out, but overcast with a pretty strong wind. It's 79 and sunny now with just enough breeze to be gorgeous.

I'm slowly reading and savoring my Tim Cotton book "Detective in the Dooryard". I tried reading it quickly, but it's many vignettes, and reading too quickly I forget one. So I'm taking my time and loving each one. I love the way he writes. I'm sure I'll go back and re-read many (if not all) of them after my first run through.

After the four tire blowouts I have had in the last 8 years, I have been very worried about my front tires because the one on the right front especially is wearing on the outside edge. I think there is something wrong with alignment.

The first two blowouts were due to a Michelin recall on sidewall blowouts. I got 7 new tires from them in 2013. The third was my fault for driving too close to a sharp stone wall over a dry creek in Gilbert Ray campground, but the fourth had an unknown cause. All were on rear duallies, so not as bad as a front tire blowout would have been, but driving along and hearing a loud explosion is not my idea of a fun day.

I have been worried about every little sound or vibration, so I went to Big O today to have them check my front ties. I would have bought two new front tires, but they did not have my size and would have had to order them, but i am leaving tomorrow morning. But they looked it over and said I had enough rubber on it to make it to Missoula. That made me feel a lot better. (Les Schwab in Missoula DOES have the right tires in stock, so I will go there on Monday and get them replaced and the rear tires all checked.)

By the way, did I ever mention the two times I have pulled over when I heard strange noises and laid on the pavement in front of my rig to look underneath?? Once was on a two-lane road and the other time was on the freeway. Not a single soul pulled over in either case to find out why an old lady was laying on her stomach on the shoulder of the roadway!!!

Anyway, stopped at Wheat Montana and got my almond bear claw fix. Got an extra bear claw and an extra chocolate croissant to freeze. And also got two extra plain croissants for sandwiches. Yum!!

Anne, would Joe play catch and fetch with a softer toy, like maybe something stuffed that you could hide when not playing so he won't chew it up??? (My son's Brittany CANNOT have any more stuffed toys because she immediately chews them into pieces and tries to eat them, so I know stuffed toys can be dangerous.)

It looks like every Monday morning I have to call the vet about one of the cats or dog. This morning when I was feeding the outside cats I noticed Orange Boy scratching his ear like it was bothering him. He had a growth removed from one of his ears a few years ago but I don't remember which ear. I picked him up to look at his ear and when I pressed on it some puss came out. I dug in the cabinet with all the horse, dog and cat stuff and found some ear wash for cats and dogs. I washed his ear and will wash it tomorrow if I can catch him. I wonder if we will be back to working out of the parking lot at the vet's again since the governor issued a mask mandate. When I went to town the other day I stopped for gas and had to make a u-turn when I went in the store because my mask was in the car.

Anne, hope nothing comes of Joe's tooth. It's hard to know what to do for them since they can't tell us how they feel. Sugar won't chew on anything unless it involves food. I gave her a hard, rawhide type bone one time and I though she was going to break her teeth. She didn't stop until she ate all of it. She has one of the red, rubber kong things that I stuff with some treats sometimes to keep her busy. I quit taking her out of the back yard after she ate the dead bird. She has a nose on her and can find things I can't even see. Last night she was trying to get at something under the porch. One of the cats had thrown up on the brick ledge and she was trying to get to it.

Judy, good luck on getting to the tire place without any trouble. I have had trouble finding a place to do a front end alignment on an E-450. Most places tell me their equipment can't handle it because it's too heavy. I worry on some roads because the road is so bad it makes me think I have a problem. When I went to New Iberia to get my car serviced I saw a motorhome at a new Ford dealer on the highway. I need to call them and see if they work on motorhomes.

I am so sorry for Sarah losing her dog.

It did not get as hot here today as predicted thank goodness!! Yesterday we have torrential downpours for quite a while. We really needed rain but I'm afraid a lot just ran off.

Today I received a Pre Paid debit card from the Illinois Department of Employment Securities. Since I have been retired for many years I have no idea why! I almost threw it away but now I'm wondering if there are tax implications. I would probably never be able to talk to anyone about it as they say their phones are constantly busy. It would be interesting to know how many others received one in error.

a do nothing day other than a trip into town to get a few groceries to the tune of 70 dollars worth need to check the receipt and see what cost so much not even any meat...
and actually all I'd gone for was milk and produce oh and bread oh well it's all stuff that hopefully I will use up before it goes bad....
want to try and see the comet supposedly should be able to see it about 10-12 suppose to rather or not I will remains to been seen would be nice to see though... some of the pictures of it are really awesome
decided to check my batteries today keep forgetting some were really corroded cleaned them off discovered that one the cables wasn't even hooked on.... I am sure that it was when I left Q so now I need to get new cable think I will replace all of them.... never have been replaced and we got the trailer in 2006 although the convertor and the 3 and 4 battery were put on after that the first year we were in Q so 2007 still think that they have done well... just need to get the right stuff and hopefully it's something sil can do I sure for the most part he can it's just the converter that puts a wrench in it in my mind may not be an issue...
they are going to do a movie tonight outside have a white canvas sheet to put up even ordered and inflatable couch... don't know what movie they are going to watch....
my grandson's other grandma passed away today sad but at the same time it's the best I'm sure her quality of life wasn't the best... need to call my grandson though just found out a bit ago...
