Good morning everyone. Happy Fourth of July. Hope you have a nice day remembering our nations freedom regardless of what you do.

I think I am going to go down and visit with some friends whom I haven’t seen for about 3 weeks or so. He just had open heart surgery done about two weeks ago and is doing very well for 80 years old. I made a seven layer Pea salad yesterday, so I’m going to take that along and will put something else the weather for the Fourth of July meal.

Anne, I agree with Judy. You should have packed up the van and going someplace to get away from the booms. Although I do have to say that with the heat that you have there right now you probably wouldn’t be too pleasant and less you could get air conditioning. I am fortunate like I said yesterday that my neighborhood is quiet except for my neighbors grandson is next-door who have been popping off a few little fireworks not big ones, just small pops. And they’re only doing it for just a few minutes and that’s it. I think grandpa probably said let’s spread it out and not aggravate the neighbors. I do expect some of my neighbors to shoot fireworks off tonight, but those as a pleasant kind, the ones that you like to sit and watch. I did hear something booms last night that either came from the counties fireworks on Otsego lake, or some people on the lake next to this one may have shot some fireworks up. As to the state parks here in Michigan fireworks are prohibited.

Judy, glad you found yourself a shady spot. I’m glad I’m not camping right now it is just too hot to be out doing anything. Even my dogs don’t like it. Beth, I hope all went well for you yesterday and you didn’t get run over by all the people that were coming in for the show.

Off to the shower, time get cleaned up and call my friends and see if they are up to some company. If not I will stay on and assemble my new barbecue grill and maybe try it out this afternoon. Have a wonderful day everyone.

As most know I'm against having 4th fireworks at MR, mainly because I hate the thought of anything happening to it. That said, I sat outside with 3 others and Ty at my campsite and watched. None of us were very impressed with the flyover. I thought I would be. The fireworks over the monument were quite impressive and enjoyable.

Shortly after a storm hit. Lots of us were glad for the downpour just in case there were stray embers anywhere.

Happy 4th everyone. For me, I'll be very glad when this weekend is over ... It's all downhill now. Until we see what Sturgis brings. And what effects yesterday had on the virus up here.

Sue, we had both sides in the store with absolutely no problems. We have a policy of NO politics talked in the store, customers or employees. It works.

Afternoon All, my apartment faces the wrong direction so no fireworks for me. My celebration will be a ride to Royal Farms for a bucket of fried chicken. Looking forward to a banana split after a chicken dinner. Think I will waddle out to get the mail. Stay safe

I had plans this morning to go to the post office, UPS store, local thrift store, etc, until I realized it is a holiday and all those places are closed. So that cut my list of things to do down a bit. Have the cook-out to go to at 1pm. Will do more cleaning and laundry later. Meanwhile, I think I will hang out in bed with Lola and read a little.

Will be hot today, around 110* but looks like it is windy out so that will help some. Probably won't stay long at the cook-out.

Judy, where are you camping at? There are a lot of beautiful State Parks and private campgrounds north of Duluth along the lake. Should be pretty quiet up there for you as far as noise, but I am sure you will have a lot of company with the holiday weekend. That area is the most beautiful part of Minnesota. My mom and I went up there every year and rented a cabin on Lake Superior. Lots of great memories there!

I just remembered about the big blowdown windstorm that happened in northern MN 20 years ago today. I am sharing a link about it.

It was a horrendous storm and trapped dozens of campers in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area northwest of Duluth. One of the supervisors where I worked was camping up there and a tree landed on her tent that night. She had head injuries and was the most seriously injured people up there. Luckily no deaths but with no roads or motor vehicles, boats, etc, for many miles around, it was a fiasco to get in there and find people and get them out. 20 million trees were blown down within 20 minutes! It took almost 2 weeks to get everyone out of the area that were trapped.

I am at Leech lake for one more night, but for three nights I was "camped" on a parking lot in a marina in Duluth overlooking the harbor and downtown Duluth. Sounds very strange, but really a great place. The famous lift bridge, along with piers on either side of the harbor entrance, were only three blocks away. And just on the other side was "Grandma's" which is a famous restaurant with a view of the bridge and lots of other restaurants and little shops. If it had not been for the virus, there were also museums and an aquarium within walking distance. It is called Lakeview Marina and RV Park.

Yes, the "campground" had no shade and rigs were parked close to one another, but we were on a long spit of land that jutted into the harbor, so we could watch the big lake freighters come in and out and enjoy watching the boats in the marina come and go. Great breeze and fresh air coming off Lake Superior, which was only two blocks away! During the winter, the "RV park" becomes boat storage, but during the summer is is very hard to get a camping spot there! Well worth the $45 per night for electric and water. Dump station was a little rough, but I managed.

Happy 4th of July. Feeling kind of bummed…this is the first time we haven’t had the group camping marathon in years. Everyone is was little worried about covid19. So it’s been a really quiet day. Well this afternoon has been. Last night we had Haddie overnight. They were going to a rodeo and Miss Sassy Pants isn’t the best crowd person, so she stayed with us. She dinked around in the swimming pool and got to play with all the toys without the interference of Bronc so she was as happy as a clam, just a little concerned about the fireworks that she could hear. They can’t have any at the farm because it spooks the cattle. But she conked out while I was reading her a bedtime story and slept until about 10 this morning. Then I received a call from my friend Faye that her 17-year-old nephew had been killed in a car accident, so I was on the phone with her for a long time.

Bronc participated in his first rodeo on Father’s Day. He did barrels and pole bending. I wish I could have been there. Beginning to wonder if I’m going to have to get some lessons as to how to act in public when this virus is licked. I leave the house for groceries, to pick up the mail and once a month to the pharmacy. I’m going to have trouble remembering that wearing a bra should be daily occurrence too. I float in the pool about 45-50 minutes everyday to build up my vitamin D. I really miss going to the Wellness Center every day. I started my 5th afghan since this started. If people keep getting married or having babies, I’m going to be okay. Our county has been fairly low on people with the virus. Eleven cases so far and all have recovered. But after this weekend it will probably change since the town where we usually camp decided to go ahead with their big 4th celebration and it tends to bring in a lot of people because so many families use it for their reunions.

My doggy day care stint is over. Missy closed the greenhouse the 7th of June because the wholesale house was out of plants. She had the best year she’s ever had, and she had been considering not opening at all. So Roxie went home but she comes to stay with me if Missy has to go to Mitchell to mow and do things at the greenhouse. She’ll be with me next weekend while Missy goes to a family thing in Mpls.

Well, that’s about it for my exciting life. As always, I read and enjoy the forum everyday…just never feel I have anything worth while to post. Have a good July, I remembered to say Rabbits on the 1st.

Pat, I am so sorry to hear about your friend's son. That is so tragic for one so young! I feel so for his family.

I went to the cookout and it turned out I was the only one who showed up. I am glad I went. They cooked about 15 burgers. I hadn't planned on staying very long but I felt bad about being the only one who was there, so I stuck around for 2 1/2 hours. I only left then because it was about 112* and I was getting a headache from the heat even in the shade with a big fan blowing. The woman was very nice and a real talker. Her husband was very nice as well.

I wish I had brought more buns and condiments so I could have had another burger. The first one was very good.

Just got done watching a Gunsmoke movie. Marshall Dillon (James Arness) and Miss Kitty (Amanda Blake) had really aged by the time this movie was made, and the ending was strange. Marshall Dillon had a lot colder,and harder attitude than the regular shows, not his charming self. And once again, he left Miss Kitty without saying good-bye. Just was a bit disappointing.

Not much planned for the rest of the evening. Will watch fireworks on TV and go to bed after that.

I pretty quite day actually... did a run to wal mart didn't have my books out yet not till the 7th so am hoping that they will be out Monday...I also forgot something I was going to get dd they seem to have a spoon thief here really down on the spoon count so was going to buy some for sure then they will reappear... works every time but forgot to put it on the list so didn't get remembered oh well yikes the barking as started not sure why all the big ones are done with
going to make cake and dip tomorrow and go down pick up something at the dd's house and hopefully get to see the baby... will shower and put clean clothes on and not stop till I get there and will text her in the morning see if it's ok time wise... when she was pregnant with her first my brother gave her this big cradle pretty thing but for their house way to big so I am taking it back up put it into storage till I have another great grandchild... was going to pick it up today but they went somewhere and didn't feel like they could leave it out for us to pickup...they are in a kinda sketchy neighborhood... almost inner city but not quite...
tomorrow going to make cake and dip that we will have before the girls go back to their dad's... then I have met their wants... planning on going home on Monday have plants inside that haven't been watered am hoping the outside ones were.... my granddaughter said she would we can only hope she remembered or it rained lots!!
I wanted to tell a manager that the employee wasn't wearing her mask correctly but didn't see one (she had it below her nose... thought if I said something to the manager perhaps it wouldn't have come across confrontational but perhaps I thought wrong
