Last Day of May

Frosty morning here in my area of northern Michigan. I can see it on the edges of neighbors garage, but none on the graass. We had frost warnings out for last night. So people are either having to cover or bring in sensitive plants if they could. Not unusual for this time of year. We have been inown to have frost every month but July.

But at least the sun is shining, so I can get my deck railings painted today. Got them all scraped down yesterday and will run my sander over them this morning ince it warms up and I know they are dry. Major deck painting summer for me this year. Taking time to get it done between the heat, humidity and mosquitos of last week, coupled with heavy rains thrown in. Supposed to rain late tomorow and Tuesday, so no deck paibting till later this week again. I will do some touchups on my porch floor though as it’s undercover. But if I can’t paint, I have other projects in the works. Between the virus, the campgrounds closed etc., this is going to be the summer for doing some maintenance around house and yard.

I too have been watching the protests around the country. It’s gotten past it’s original point and now as Barbie has said, frustrations are boiling over with the virus, restrictions, racial tensions and a combination of things. Reminds me of the race riots in 1968. I lived in the outlaying suburbs of Detroit and the rioters were burning entire blocks of the city, abandoned homes on streets, cars, whatever. Back then it was all black people, the whites staying far away. The National Guard was called in. They and the Police didn’t use rubber bullets then, it was lethal force when needed. Curfews were issued For miles around Detroit. During the day, we could go about our normal business, but by 7 p.m., you had better be off the streets and on your property. We lived in a neighborhood where a bunch of us liked to gather on somebody's porch and talk in thw evenings. But with curfew on, that wasn’t allowed. But they didn’t say we couldn’t sit in our yards along the edge of the street and talk back and forth. We would watch the helicopters flying back and forth from Detroit and the Police cruising down the main road on nightly patrol. I am so grateful I live where I do, far away from the madness. Took the dogs for a walk in the woods yesterday, and it was nice just being out walking, enjoying the sights of spring. Sure we have ling winters, but I won’t trade for anything.

Shirl, you made me laugh, talking about bogeying down the road. I can just picture that. You would look like one of those funny videos you see on FB of older people acting like kids  O’Sharon, will be sending you some cool weather and probably more rain. Water tables are so high here, that there’s no place for the water to go anymore. Every time a front comes through with heavy rain, some towns are having flooding. Fortunately, here where I am, our sandy soil can absorb it. But all the inland lakes around here are way too high. Some people are dealing with flooded crawl spaces or flooded yards. Nothing can be done. With the great lakes at all tine highs, the rivers are full too as thry can’t drain into the lakes.

Once get my projects wrapped up, then maybe I will think about camping. Need to move my trailer as don’t want tires sitting in same spot al the time. Not good for the tires. But right now, tine to get ready to watch nass in TV and then get this day moving. Have a nice dsy and stay safe, wherever you are.

Chilly morning here today 51° We went from 97 to the low 60's in just 24hours. Then yesterday had thunder and lightning all day long until about 4pm. Didnt see my dog all day, she was residing under my bed LOL We got lots of rain which we desperately need. I didnt do much yesterday. Found a couple shows on a couple of the streaming networks to try out. One I dismissed right away and another I have just started so we will see. The hunt might be back on LOL

I am not watching the news or reading anything about these stupid protests. Just ridiculous any excuse to destroy property of the hard working people that are already struggling from Covid. In fact I am over the Covid news also...other than keeping an eye on our county which is doing great. 65 cases 0 deaths. Our county is about 220,000 so really glad to see how well we are doing. Things opened up a bit here but people are not crazed. Still wearing masks, staying home mostly, keeping hands and surfaces clean...not much more to do.

Not sure what today is going to bring but time to change my bed, vacuum, and not sure what else yet. It is damp outside but not predicting rain for today, we shall see.

Stay safe everyone

Good morning. Again thanks for the heads up, Sue. It was downright cold out earlier this morning! And only 60’s for the next few days! But on the upside the sun is out so that makes the day better! Now if it just dries out a bit more! Everything is so damp. Anne, thanks for the suggestion and I had thought about doing just that but I hesitate since the hole is recessed and I fear cracking the cover and causing more problems. I think my son has done bond-o (spell?) work on fiberglass so will ask him about doing that. Basically make a new hole for the screw. It’s okay for now so won’t sweat it to much. I have some other projects that need my attention right now. As always! Beth, I hope you get a chance to take off for a couple of days to just enjoy the beautiful area you’re in. I need to get busy here and accomplish something today! Didn’t do much yesterday but did get to talk to a couple of friends. Not the same as seeing them but I’ll take what I can get right now. Oh, I have a robin nesting in the light fixture by my back door. The babies have hatched and can get vocal every so often. The porch is covered so they are well protected! I see her flying in and out all the time. I thought about removing the nest early on but just couldn’t do it! They’ll fledge soon so not a big thing. Okay, off to do something! Hope you have a great day today. Enjoy the last day of May.

Sue, I remember it wasn't all that long ago that the Great Lakes were very low and everyone was worried about that. Now the opposite.

Last night cooled off pretty good and it was windy so I decided to turn off the AC and open the windows. Well, the wind died during the night and I woke up this morning very warm! So closed everything back up and turned on the AC again.

My SIL sent me an email she got from my nephew who is a cop in southern MN, regarding how he feels about what is going on right now. I copied it and put it in the General thread on here. I feel for him and all the other police officers who are now having to deal with the ramifications of what happened last Monday to George Floyd, and since.
Velda, I am sure your son is having similar feelings and issues in St Cloud, MN as well.

I think I hear the banana bread calling my name...gotta go!

It got up to 93 again but it's overcast so has cooled off a little. There is a lot of rain in South Texas and out into the Gulf. Don't know which way it is headed. I got the yard mowed yesterday afternoon and not long after it rained again. The bottom of the hill was too wet to mow. There have been years that I was worried about how low the water was in the pond but that hasn't happened in a long time.

I didn't take anything out to cook until noon when it was time to eat. I just got around to eating lunch after some chicken thawed out and I cooked it. I am really tired of cooking but not ready to take a chance on going to a restaurant. I don't even like the idea of getting something to take out except at the grocery store.

I'm glad I don't have any family that are police officers or in the national guard. That would be a scary job right now. It's sad that some people are using this as an excuse to cause more trouble in this country. Some of the businesses they are burning belong to black people. They don't care who they hurt. There is suppose to be a protest near the college in Lafayette this afternoon.

I just gave Lola a bath. She hasn't given herself a bath for quite awhile and was getting smelly and grungy. She wasn't too happy about it but I didn't get bit or clawed, just a little wet. Afterward I dried her with the blow dryer in the bathroom. She seemed OK with that since I was brushing her too, which she loves. I also gave her some chicken for being such a good girl. Now she is giving herself a bath. She looks much better and I am sure she will feel much better once she is completely dry and fluffy again. I put Maya in the bedroom so she won't bother Lola for awhile. Maya is not happy about that!

The media was interviewing a lot of the protesters last night and they were all saying they wanted a peaceful protest and were against the violence that was going on. If the protesters would do their thing during the day and then leave by curfew, the only ones left would be the trouble makers and the police could take care of those. It was good to see so many white protesters out there too, supporting the black communities. This affects all of us and we all need to be part of the solution. Hope we can get that figured out soon.

I am sitting here, watching live coverage of the protests in downtown SD. So far, li is many policemen standing and staring at many protesters who are standing and staring at each other.
Now, smash bangs and tear gas deployed and the line of police is moving the crowd back.
This is not near where I live, thank heavens. Of course the police are moving the protesters closer to my condo! To be continued.....lyn

It is all disturbing. So far my area is peaceful. I can't imagine living close to where these riots are happening.

The lady who adopted the white cat, Lily, came by today to bring some toys for my kitten, Maya. That was so nice!

My pastor was on the news tonight. They talked to him and the black guest speaker he had for the service this morning. It was a good interview about how we need to come together for change.

There was a crowd of protesters in Minneapolis on a freeway that had been closed earlier. All of a sudden, a tanker truck came barreling down the freeway towards the crowd and drove thru them. Luckily, everyone was able to jump out of the way, and they were able to finally stop the trucker. They dragged the driver out and started beating him before the police got there to arrest him. Crazy! He is lucky he didn't kill anyone!

I got a video of Lola growling at Maya while she was licking her face! Lol! I will try to get it on You Tube so I can post a link here. I think Lola feels a lot better tonight tho after her bath. She sure looks a lot better!

we went for a drive in my dd's new to her car think it is a 2016 red Cherokee Jeep so went up to Island Park where we used to camp host was so sad to the the campgrounds closed...it has several forest service campgrounds... can't remember the amount around 7-8 some small ours was 14 sites some a lot larger ours was the smallest one... I think one that I'd forgotten about in the count never went to it so not sure how big it was... there was a camphost in our spot so thinking one either he had no place to go so there perhaps as security or he had no place to go so they allowed him to stay there didn't go over where the other campgrounds would be ... but a beautiful day for a drive... then down to grandson's house needed to pick up my other dd's car so she and my granddaughter left then a hour or so later my dd and myself left... perhaps two hours later... got home and took a nap...
then it was supper time...
so haven't done the ordinary things of the day yet so need to get off of the computer and do so...
you all have a good day
