Miserable Wednesday Morning

Good Morning from a very wet northern Michigan. Don’t think I need to tell you about the storms across the country as some of you are already experienced round one known as Winter Storm Dorothy which is now making it’s way through MI. Heavy rain is over through and now just cloudy. The U.P. Is taking the brunt of this storm with heavy snow, wind etc. There are so many warnings out for Winter Storm, High Winds, Lake Shore Flooding/Erosion etc., can’t keep track of em all. None here though. Round two which is named Elliott I think will arrive on Saturday and already battering the west coast. Ah, the gales of November.
Went to the indoor Farmers Market this morning in the downpour as this is a biggie for pre Thanksgiving stuff. Wanted some fresh eggs and some more butternut squash to cook up for the freezer. Got some fresh apple cider too. Can’t go to Saturday’s cause new dryer being delivered. Now am puttering in the kitchen making a jello salad and pumpkin spice cheesecake. That will go with me to cousin’s tomorrow, salad is for me here. Been a holiday tradition in my family for probably 50 years. I’ll probably be bringing g leftovers home so will have the salad to go with them.
Enjoyed the conversation about technology. I’m not a big user of it, but do have a smart phone with some apps I use, especially during summer camping season. But I am not a heavy user of it. I still have a land line here which I have closed captioning on for my hearing. Just makes conversations easier and it’s nice when it records to the answering machine built in. Much easier to read, get the info etc., then trying to listen to some of the rapid fire talkers out there. Also great way to screen robo calls. I look to see who’s calling, unfamiliar number, I don’t answer, let it go to answering machine. If the message starts recording and if it’s important, I can intercept the call. My robo calls have pretty much disappeared off the Adar screen. Very few people have my cell phone number so no bother there.
I do have an IPad and computer and there is where I do my business. Online banking, ordering, chatting etc. my phone is synced to the IPad, so any text messages from those who have my phone number, which is a different one than my landline, will come into my IPad. So I’m not addicted to phone. Half the time I forget to take it with me.
But one thing I’m wondering is, how many of you have security program in your phones. We all make sure or should be sure to put security like Norton or some other programs in our computers, tablets. IPads etc. but very few people I know, do it on their phones and there is a great route for hackers, especially if you use your phones for everything. I have a security software program called Trend Micro, http://www.trendmicro.com , which was highly recommended by my computer repair guy. It has been a top rated security program for a long time, although many people don’t know of it. He said it’s better than Norton and the others as thry are constantly keeping up with the latest viruses, threats and whatever else out there and will send updates right away. Then can remotely go into your computer and remove them too, should you find you have an issue. You only need to contact their tech guys. Granted, it’s not cheap, but well worth it. Cost me a bit over $100 a year, but it covers up to 5 devices, hence. My computer, Pad and phone are all covered and scanned every time I turn them on and everything I go I open to is scanned as well, apps, websites etc. You don’t see it, but it’s there and will alert if something looks fishy. Been with it for over 5 years now and not one issue of any kind, Hack or nothing.
Gotta get back to work here. Finish up the cheesecake, just need to mix some cream cheese, cool whip and the packet of mix together, put into my graham cracker crust and into the fridge it goes. Have a great day all, stay safe in these storms.
