Rainy Monday

Good morning! It’s been cool and now rain has moved in. I took the air unit out of my bedroom window the other day and turned the house heat on. Fall is definitely here. I was out yesterday and it’s amazing how the trees are turning compared to what it was just a couple of days ago. I made an appointment to get my RV winterized in a couple of weeks. I still need to get a few things out before we cover her. I’ve emptied the fresh water and water heater so got that much done. I’m not worried about freezing yet but figured I’d take advantage of the nicer days. Been enjoying reading about everyone’s adventures and travel. Tina, what a fun time you’re having! Scotland was one of the places we didn’t get to when we were stationed overseas so I’ll enjoy your journey! Beth, sounds like you headed south just in time! Today is a good day for me to get to some projects inside so suppose I should get busy! Have a wonderful day and travel safe if you are on the road.

Morning Sharon, I’m hoping we get the predicated rain on the shore. Nothing exciting on the agenda today. I am going for a flu shot at the local Walgreen Pharmacy. Will probably look in the cosmetic section for wrinkle cream. Then as usual decide it’s a lost cause. Going to make a batch of Wendy’s copycat chili for the freezer. Safe travels

Just checking in from the Isle of Skye. Did a bit of driving today through rain and mist and sunshine and more rain. Welcome to Scotland. The temperatures are still a little warmer than Arizona last winter. I am well with my layers. I work between two and four depending upon what I plan to do (Driving takes only 2-3 layers) That top layer is the rain coat. Good for that "stop the wind" layer or the "stop the rain" layer. It got used for both today on a castle visit. Pictures still to be sorted off the camera. I'm on holiday...... But I am here for three nights so I should be able to catch up but I am easily distractible.

Tina, sounds like a great trip so far! Lots to see and do there!

Lyn, haven't heard from you in awhile. Please check in with us so we know you are OK!

I didn't get a lot done yesterday. Did go to the trailer to put some more stuff in there. Some things work and some don't so back to WM to return a few things and pick up a few things. I am trying to find ways to make the most of the little bit of storage in there. There is some wasted space in there that I think they could have done more with when designing it. Will have to work around that and be creative. I will have to look up some You Tube videos to get more ideas. I did take out the folding table that came with the trailer for the front of the couch to eat on. It really took up too much space and was heavy to handle. I will use that in my porch for my craft table. I found a large TV tray/table I had from before that will work perfectly in there instead. I don't plan to have large dinner parties in there! I am trying to use things I already have to put in there so I don't have to buy so much. I have lots of kitchen items that I can use in there. There are no drawers so will have to figure out where to put my plasticware, etc. The fridge actually has a lot more space than I will probably need so maybe I can put some things in there. Nothing wrong with cold plasticware! Yep! Gotta think outside the box!

At home, not much got done. I did go to church tho. We got a lesson on forgiveness. They showed a clip from the trial of the cop who shot her neighbor in his apartment. His brother got on the stand and told her he loves her and forgives her for what happened and asked to give her a hug. It was very emotional. I don't think too many of us would be capable of or willing doing that.

Still waiting for the Golf Cart guy to come back with a new fuse. Hoping he comes soon and gets it fixed since I will be needing to use the cart again soon.

Off to work again later. Have a good day! :D

The pain is worse than I expected. I am taking Vicodin, but it is still very painful--sharp and burning pain. I was told meds should start to work by Wednesday and I will feel better then, so I really hope so.

So sorry about your diagnosis Judy. I hope whatever medications they give you will help.

For others, there is a shingles vaccine that is not a live virus. Having seen my dad suffer with shingles, I would sure suggest everyone get the vaccine if your doctor recommends it.

Isn't there something you are supposed to have had or not had as a kid, like measles or something, that determines if you should get the shingles shot?

Barbie Shingles is a dormant virus I think isn't everything a virus   anyway Chickenpox is the disease you are looking for but don't know if you won't get it if you've never had chickenpox ... it is one thing that I need to go get as I did have chickenpox

If you had chickenpox, you can get shingles by reactivation of the zoster virus which has been dormant in your system since you had chickenpox. They don’t know what causes it to reactivate in the form of shingles.

What I know is you don’t want to get shingles. My father was absolutely miserable for quite awhile. This was back in the early 1990s. I don’t know whether treatments for it have improved. I would hope so. Because I have a weakened immune system due to treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, I was not allowed to get the shingles vaccination because it contained a live virus which would be dangerous for someone with a weakened immune system. However, in the last couple years they came out with the vaccination that does not contain the live virus. My doctor immediately scheduled me to get it.

I have no idea if I had chicken pox as a kid. Can you get the vaccine even if you don't know for sure? Altho, my brother got shingles so he must have had chicken pox, so maybe I did too.

I copied this from the WebMD website Barbie:

“Do I still need the shingles vaccine if I've never had chickenpox?”

“Yes, you do. Shingrix recommended for everyone age 50 and older, whether or not you remember having had chickenpox, because most people have been exposed to the virus.”

Thanks! I will put that on my list along with getting a flu shot.
