It’s Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Thursday

Postby Othersharon » Thu Aug 08, 2019 12:12 pm

Good afternoon! Coffee is done and now I’m after water and iced tea. I just came in from the far side of the house after spending about an hour pulling weeds. There’s a nice breeze and when the clouds come in it isn’t bad out there. But then the sun peeks out and it’s downright hot and humidity is up today. So I’m done for now. If it doesn’t rain this afternoon maybe I can get back to it once it gets shaded on that side. For sure I need a shower now! I’m trying to figure out what else I may need for my gtg with Donna this week end. Getting excited to go and see her. It’s been awhile. And have to agree with the comments the other day about the wide circle of friends we have here. It is special. And with that I really need to get that shower and get busy with other things that need done today. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Sharon... and any readers ;)

Still hanging out on the a Mississippi. Lucked out today. Both storms turned south. I hate being in the midwest in tornado season, but it is what it is.

Haven't really done a darn thing other than go to the lock on the Iowa side and hit the chocolate store in LeClaire, IA, which is a usual visit if I'm here. Think I have enough chocolate to last a while, or until I get to Galena. Whichever comes first.

CG and LeClaire will be hopping this weekend for Tugfest. It's a tug-of-war across the Mississippi.

That's it from humid Illinois. Have a good day ladies.

I am off to The Dalles to get some blood work done for my urologist in Eugene so I can get my surgery done on Monday on my kidney stone. My platelets were at 91, which is low for most people but fairly good for what I have had over the last year!

Also got to find a notary and sign some closing papers and pick up a prescription. I used to take Omeprasol for acid reflux, but have been skipping it last month. Having some late afternoon and nighttime problems and last night had coughing spree and even choked up stuff last night, so time to go back on it.

Highs today will be 85, which is a LOT better than 103!!!! The older I get, the less I can tolerate heat.

And I agree about the friends on this forum. It is wonderful to know that I am never really alone in my travels. Which means, if anyone ever needs help and I can get there, just let me know!!! Life would be rougher for all of us if we had to rely only on our far-away kids and other relatives for help.

Cheryl, I didn't know there were locks on the Mississippi. The Mississippi is finally out of flood stage in New Orleans. I think they said that it's been in flood stage almost every day this year. There are locks on the Red River and a couple of really nice campgrounds run by the Red River Authority. There is one a few miles North of Alexandria and one in Natchitoches. I think there are more locks than those two but don't know if they have campgrounds. When I was in high school we lived about a mile from the Red River in Shreveport and we use to ride our horses along the river. We were alway daring each other to swim the river on our horse. I was afraid my horse would drown. I wasn't worried about me. I'm glad none of us ever tried it.

We are under a heat advisory but I mowed anyway. I got everything but a couple of places that are still too wet.

For lunch I cooked some shrimp to add to the 5 that are in a Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo and added some cheese. Not too lean when I got through with it. lol

Judy, hope your blood work is ok so you can get your surgery over with.

Martha, I had to Google it, but the are over 40 locks and dams on the Mississippi, but it looks like the one that is the furthest south is in Canton, Illinois.

Slept good last night once I fell asleep. It was really warm in the room and even with the windows open, there was not even a whisper of a breeze out, so the nice cool air didn't want to come inside. Luckily I remembered I had a tiny personal fan in my car and got that and it was enough to blow some cool air on me and helped me fall asleep.
Got up this morning and went down the street to a cute little cafe for breakfast out on their patio. I was already sore from hiking yesterday so I just went into town and checked out the shops and had some ice cream before heading back down the mountain for home. Sure was nice to get some cooler fresh air and beautiful mountain scenery!

Lola was fine when I got home altho a little mad that I left her overnight. It takes her a few hours to forgive me. I was expecting a couple of messy stinky litter boxes but it wasn't bad. She is actually now having normal stools! Yay! I think I will still pick up some subQ fluids for her since I still think she isn't drinking enough water and especially now that I am giving her dry food.

Once I go thru all the photos I took, I will post some on here.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good Morning, Yes, I concur, this forum gives us many friends to visit along the way of our travels! I will be seeing Velda when I pass through Sacramento!
Judy, I wish I were following you to Florida this coming winter. But those long trips do tire me out. I am following in your footsteps and going to LePage campground in OR in Sept. Sorry you will be long gone.
As I am traveling over the Labor Day holidays I have made reservations along the way. It's hot this time of year and I need electricity. For both me and Benji.
Barbie, I did not know about Hwy 243 crashing down the mountain! Thanks for that info.
I continue on my high horse about the scooters in down town San Diego. I've written to the council person for my district, he never even answered me. I do my part in getting rid of them by knocking them over when I am out walking! One almost hit my daughter yesterday!
Our city council thinks that by just passing a law that will solve the problem. People continue to ride on the sidewalks.
Went out to dinner with some folks from the high school reunion last night. Had pizza and beer.
Cheryl. does one get pulled across the Mississippi River if one is on the losing side of the tug-of-war?!?!

Lyn thay would be pretty funny! From what the news channels are saying, they must have measures on the rope, which weighs over 1600# (probably heavier when wet), and whichever team pulls it 50' wins. Illinois had won 22 times and Iowa had only won 12 times. GO ILLINOIS TUGGERS!!!
