Catching up on stuff, tried to get into the forum yesterday but it wouldnt let me log in on my notepad. Chatted with Beth for helo but it still
wouldnt let me in. Tried again this morning and still
no go. Deleted the forum off my notepad and now i pick up my phone and i am still on with this. Its weird but i do occassionally like to catch up here other than facebook.
Birthday party (bbq) yesterday for 2nd grandson, cant believe hes 23. Good food, good company and puppies!!!! Ex does the fostering for a local rescue, in particular they care for puppy litters until they are old enough. 5 little chi-terrier puppies. Fun to pkay with.

Ava, I can believe the food was good! Your ex is an awesome cook as I remember from Thanksgiving a few years back.

Beth, glad things are picking up for you, even if for a short time.

I found a church that I love. I haven't actually been there yet but the service is live-streamed every Sunday and I just love it. I am sad that the current minister is retiring soon. He is awesome! I really need to get my butt out of bed earlier on Sundays so I can actually get there in person!

Need to come up with a plan for today so I don't waste the whole day on the couch! Lots of things around here just waiting for me to get busy with.

I want to take a day trip towards the end of the week to get a short respite from the heat. Either the beach or the mountains. The beach would be an over-nighter since it is a 2+ hour drive each way. Will see...

It has been in the mid 100 teens this weekend and will continue thru next week. Luckily, not too humid but still hot! When I got in my car yesterday after work, it was 135* in there! By the time I got home a half hour later, with the AC on high the whole way, it was still 100*. It was 115* outside. They say I will get used to the heat after being here for awhile. I still think it is better than anything below zero, tho!

It looks like it's going to rain everyday here. It rained yesterday and it's already rained over an inch this morning. There is still rain around me.

Made a fast trip to the post office and grocery store yesterday. I keep forgetting to put the bag of clothes in the front seat so I remember to drop them off. At least they made it to the car.

The highlight of my day is I got my Sunday paper. First time in 3 weeks. There is nothing worth watching on TV so guess I will have to go back to going through the box of papers.

Barbie, I don't know how you would get used to the kind of heat you have. I grew up in Louisiana without air conditioning. All we had were the oscillating table fans. I would hate to have to go back to that. One of the hottest I can remember being is my first semester of college in a dorm without air conditioning. I have a memory of being at my Grandmother's house in Texas. I was crying because it was so hot and my mother was wiping me with a wet washcloth. I had to have been six year old or younger. Did anyone have leg cramps as a child? I can remember crying because my legs hurt so much. My mother called them growing pains.

I sure couldn't be here without AC! I really don't know how people dealt with the heat years ago without it. My house is very comfortable and my car gets there eventually! This valley used to be pretty much all sunbirds with most people leaving here for the summer. Most businesses closed for the summer. Now there are a lot more people who stay and most businesses stay open all summer, altho some cut their hours/days back. I hope I can afford to leave for a couple months next summer tho. Once it starts getting back into the low 70's at night, it will be better. I can sit outside or in my porch in the evenings then.
Hopefully September will start to get better.

Good job on the photo! Now that is a good way to stay cool! Do you keep the beer cool in the water too?

One big advantage of growing up in the Midwest is that we had basements for the heat. It was always at least 10-15 degrees cooler in the basement, which in my house was finished. Even people who did not have their basements finished would have a spot where there would be a large rug or piece of carpeting on the floor and tables to play cards or games. We kids were either in the basement or outdoors running through sprinklers.

I was up at 6:30 am this morning--third time in four days trying to make reservations for next February in one of the handful of COE campgrounds in southern Florida that have electric hookups. I had problems the first two days figuring out that I could not overlap my reservations and could not cancel for at least 18 days after making one. So this morning was the first time I did not have overlapping reservations. Got into St. Lucie and missed the only spot available. Darn. That is a tiny campground, but it is on the RIver and it is fun watching all the cabin cruisers going through the locks there.

So, quickly went to Ortona South, along the Caloosahatchee River. The river is navigable from Ft. Myers to Jupiter on the ocean. Good view of the boats going through the locks. The three spots available had been taken. Went to WP Franklin, west of there, and then back to Ortona. And whoopee, the one prime spot I wanted was now available. Someone must have had multiple people searching for spots and got rid of that one for another one. So, hardly believing my luck, I snatched it for 14 days @$15 per night. Yea!!

One of the fun things about Ortona South is that they have otter families, sometimes literally in the campground. There is a wooden walkway bridge that goes over a creek that empties into the big river and you can get within just a few feet of these fun little guys. Two years ago the parents had moved out to raise another litter, leaving three "teenagers" in the old burrow. I was able to stand on the bridge to watch one munching on what was apparently a delicious snake. The others caught fish and brought them up the tiny creek to eat near their burrow. Also, lots of wading birds in the creek to watch. Last time I was there, one bird was constantly standing on the same little rock in the creek, staring down to catch a small fish. Never saw him catch anything, but he was always there. The campground is about a mile from the highway surrounded on three sides by farmland, the fourth side being the river, of course. Nice and quiet, and lots going on in the river. It is also not too far from the Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, which has a boardwalk through the swamp which is filled with birds and alligators.

I still really want to get a site at St. Lucie since my cousins live only a couple of miles away.

As kids wee never had A/C in cars, school or homes but we all survived. Sure love my A/C now though!!

I don't know how Barbie handles the heat either!! Just the thought makes me start to feel panicky! Some of my earliest memories are crying because I was so hot and telling my mom that the oscillating fan in our bedroom was always on my brothers side side of the room! I also remember leg cramps. Mom would heat a blanket on the coal stove and wrap my legs with it, she also called them growing pains. I don't miss that part of the good old days and I especially don't miss taking a bath in a galvanized washing tub beside the coal stove in the kitchen. And yes,all three kids shared the same water as it had to be heated on the stove.

Barbie you should get a remote start for your car so you can cool it down before you get in it, I would think one one die in 135 degree heat!

We spent a lot of time in our basement in the summer too, when we weren't swimming in the lake (which was pretty much always!). My parents had a window air conditioner in their bedroom and would hang a sheet in the hallway to keep to cooler air in the bedroom areas only. It kind of worked.

Judy, glad you got one of your favorite spots to camp. I am checking out places to hike up in the local mountains. Found out about another lake up there that doesn't have a fee other than a voluntary parking fee. I might stay overnight up there if I can find an affordable room there, so I don't have to rush and then drive back down the mountain in the dark.

Just talked to my SIL, Julie. She is now at the apartment in Phoenix. My brother David is staying with my other brother and his wife back in MN til next week when he will fly down to Phoenix. I guess he is not doing very good, especially since breaking his neck. I told her I will drive out to Phoenix once he gets there and gets settled in a bit. She is making appointments with specialists to see what more they can do for him. I think he also needs to get some mental health care for his depression, something he has avoided since the car accident. We had a good conversation tho, which is nice. I told her she is doing an awesome job dealing with everything.

My new friends, a couple that I met at one of the dinners, came by today to put up my new name/home plaque in front of the house. I put "Lake Minnetonka" since I grew up there, lived there all my life and is still one of my happy places.

did a no no for a Sunday hit the snooze too many times then the off button then fell asleep Church starts at 9 I woke up at 9:06 hustled got there at 9:30 oh well will do better next sunday will be at dd in Ogden it starts at 10:30 will make it on time... I've gotten into a really bad habit I've always gone to bed late but it's only getting worse you on the East coast are up not long after I've gone to bed... need to change some habit's...
came home from church and put a sirloin tip in the crock pot... along with carrot's celery and onion's mashed the 'tator's
made biscuits and had salad and broccoli it was a good meal...
then home found out there is a fire in Jackson but thinking it's pretty much out my mom told me that my niece brought her a lawn mower... not sure whose idea but my nephew works at a walmart and he got a good deal...
tomorrow going over to mom's usually ride with dd but her car is disabled her son was doing the brakes and decided it needed calipers so waiting for them. thought I would be taking her over but since I've not heard from her bet she took the day off she is on a camping trip and they wanted her to stay tomorrow... so will go over visit with mom a few and water plants meeting Anita at 12 going to meet at my old family home and then not sure where we will go or in what either the slingshot or my truck my personal choice is a no brainer...
when we first lived in the midwest I don't remember AC it was an old home so doubt it was there if it was it was a window unit but truly don't remember... it's hot right now but with the windows and doors open it works .... when asked why I don't go down to Q before I do the answer is it's too hot and the snakes are still out and about
