Good morning all! I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the fact that it’s already July! But like it or not, it’s here! I remembered to say Rabbits this morning! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Pretty uneventful here other then then wind and rain storm that blew in on Saturday! Seemed like one minute it was sunny and then it got darker and it blew in. Then the sun finally came out again a bit later. But the humidity is down for now and it’s pleasant. Sure glad I didn’t decide to wait to mow on Saturday! I got it done late Friday after the sun was off the backyard.
Judy, hoping things are still getting settled for you in FL. Barbie, have you heard yet about your job? Looking forward to seeing what you’re doing with your new home. Beth, good to hear that your season is finally getting busier. And that you’ve been able to take some time for you too. And been able to be tour guide for Irmi and Steve!
So not much going on here as far as traveling, a couple of jello plans but not sure if it’ll happen or not. I think I have it nailed down and then life gets in the way! So with that I need to get outside and pull some more weeds! Have a great day and and travel safe.

I usually stay up late and say rabbits before I go to bed. I am about 5 miles from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and traffic has been horrendous. The backups go for miles and travelers clog the back roads so I am trapped in the apartment. Oh how I miss the Rv. I ask management if I could play in the fountain on hot days. They said no, even when I promised to wear a swimsuit. The balcony container garden is so happy I am making pesto with the abundance of basil. I follow everyone’s travels and enjoy their pictures. Safe travels.

I forgot rabbits! Of course, the day began when Drew dropped his ball on me and hopped onto the bed to play a game. I can't remember if my first words were "jump!" or "where's the ball?" He generally starts my day this way.

July is going to continue the busy pattern of June. Classes with Drew a couple nights a week, followed by driveway camping at my oldest friends' place after one of them; an enticing research project; a craft project in anticipation of fall; some house and van repairs squeezed in somewhere. It's also the month when family gathers at Lake Huron, so I'll be squeezing in as much time as I can up there. A campus group is offering a free community yoga class -- for everybody, but especially slanted toward PTSD -- so I think I'll try that. It's also the month of carillon concerts, but those are the same night as one of Drew's classes. Oh, the pleasure of being inundated with happy choices! July really is a treasure.

After a wonderful two week adventure, I got home late Saturday afternoon. Spent 5 wonderful days at Cove Palosades State Park in Oregon and the rest visiting friends and camping out at AM Solar for some upgrades to the system they installed in 2009. Learned of a few more repairs needed on the house side of the van but overall the LTV performed well. Got 21-23 mpg on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis. Met over 2 dozen Campers of the Sisterhood and planning for next years rally has begun. There will be smaller gatherings between now and then. Van is almost unloaded and laundry almost finished. Cats, bird, and son did well during my absence. My Handman made progress on my latest deck repair due to years of neglect. Son and I are planning our meal for 4th and will have our safe and sane fireworks ready to light when the neighbors of the cul de sac gather just after dark. State fair is coming mid month and Chris and I plan to choose a day to spend there seeing our favorite exhibits. I'm not sure if I'll make it to the Eagle Lake gathering because of the needed repairs on fridge and heater in RV, both of which seem to have blown control boards as fridge works on 12v and 110 and pilot lights but main burner for propane cooling never comes on and heater blower works and can hear igniter but never creates heat. We believe Mel blew the boards when he had a issue with a inverter he installed which failed and the other two were not noticed as I haven't used either since then. Anyhow it will all get done in time. Have a great day all. I did at least skim all posts since I left so am semi caught up on all your goings on.

Hello Everybody. All is well here in CT, but getting hotter everyday. I’m joining Carolb and my other Roadtrek buddies for a camp out in NY next week. It will be the first time the van has moved since I returned home in April!
Barbie, I like your new photo with the short haircut. Hope your job comes through quickly.

I said rabbits shortly after midnight last night. I hope it brings me a great June. Right now I'm listening to a very, very loud bird. Non-stop lol. I can't see him or her, but sure is loud.

I'm glad to see some check ins... Hope to see more.

I remembered Rabbits this morning.

Got up fairly early, had breakfast and took another load of stuff to the thrift shop. Stopped for breakfast and then Walmart. Why is it that almost every time I go into a restaurant, they decide to mop the floors around me, with Pinesol or ammonia? I am highly sensitive to those chemicals. I was half done with my meal so I asked the waitress for a to-go box and left right away.

Got back home and cleaned up the porch to make room for more stuff from storage. Still want to clean out the shed yet today but it is so dang hot out (112*) that I am waiting til almost sunset to do that.

My calendar is filling up quickly for the week! I called the manager at GCs again and she said she gave my application to the manager of another shop in Palm Desert that needs more help. That manager called later and wants me to come in for an interview with her tomorrow. However, she also said she is adding me to the schedule there for next week so that sounds good. That shop is about 25 minutes away from me but in a better area (more $$$). I wasn't too impressed with the manager at the first shop anyways, so probably worth the extra drive.

Tomorrow morning we are getting gate stickers for our cars here at the resort that will automatically open the gate when we pull in. Something new and will be more convenient. Then my interview at noon.

Wednesday is our weekly dinner outing and it is at Olive Garden. They have their 'buy one, take one home' deal going on right now so that is cool. Last time I was there was a couple years ago in Phoenix when I met my brother and his wife who were visiting out there. They had that special going on then too. My brother gave me his extra dinner so I had two to take home. That was also the night I found out my dad was on his death bed and I flew out early the next morning for MN to be with him. (My roommate got to eat both meals.)

Thursday, I have the handyman coming over to fix a few things on my list. Then the HOA is having a 4th of July pizza party at the clubhouse in the afternoon. I will probably take my golf cart across the street in the evening to watch the fireworks at the casino there. There is a free outdoor Bad Company tribute concert there on Friday night I might go to.

So that is my week ahead...

I too remembered Rabbits. So far it isn't helping LOL Remembered Heartworm for Emma. Went to RV shop this morning then home for a bit, then out to lunch with my neighbor. Barbie, we went to Olive Garden too and got the same special it was super good. We are having a July 4th BBQ up at the clubhouse too. No fireworks around here other than any idiots brave enough to try the illegal ones $2500 fine if you are caught this year.
I drove to lunch and my neighbor asked me if we could stop at Best Buy to look at a new computer (SHOCK, he is a super tightwad). He actually bought one. Of course he wanted to make sure I would set it up for him LOL of course I will. I love spending other people's money.

Welcome to retirement Joan, I retired in Dec 2015 and wondered if I would be bored................NOPE sure am not. Glad you had a good time Velda. I am going to the GTG up at Joseph Stewart park and am looking forward to meeting some new ladies.

I got back to Napa late yesterday after 5 exhausting days in Florida. Spent last night at my son's house and then picked up RV from storage this morning and headed north. Am in Red Bluff right now. Got a Blue Beacon RV wash on the way.

I have never had such an exhausting five days, and I am still too wiped out to tell you all about it. But, we got the bank account changed over to our names, sorted through two boxes of old bills and medical stuff. I took the medical stuff and the other niece took the financial stuff and paid the bills--roughly $50,000 worth because they had not paid bills on three properties for months and months. The two properties in Florida have horribly high association fees, as much as $1,000 per month, and if you add taxes and utilities, it adds up fast. Even the rental property has lost at least $10,000 - $15,000 per year as they rent it only for three months and did not charge the going rate. So my uncle took out a mortgage on the condo they intended as their retirement home and a very high line of credit on their Georgia home. All are now put up for sale. Searched for personal stuff in the two Florida places, but the Georgia home is completely full so that will be in the fall.

Our goals were safety and security, so the money is now secure and we changed the locks on all properties. Also, found them a memory care facility and hired a dementia advisor who will manage the move and them during the transition to this new place. The new facility will mean no more $9,000 per month for their assisted living and $27,000 per month for 24 hour private care assistance. They had a lot of money once, but it has been going fast.

Anyway, all of this meant meeting lawyers, caregivers, advisors, movers, locksmiths, touring memory care facilities, and other stuff from 8 am to 6 pm each day and skipping lunch or even dinner. Two evenings were spent with aunt and uncle. We ate a lot of snacks but not much real food. And then had trouble sleeping. Worst part was dealing with two people who were alternately glad to see us and furious at us. Very emotionally exhausting to add to the physical stuff and lack of sleep. I'll be at Medford for a couple of nights and then at Emigrant Lake for 9 days, which I really need for decompressing.

I was reminded that it was going to be rabbits today even thanked the person for doing so.... then forgot till about 11:30 or later...well by that time I was helping quilt and we don't just remain silent while quilting
will hope for luck throughout the month regardless.
since I check in almost daily most of you know what is going on in my life or has been going on... my sister is is back in rehab after her surgery last Tuesday back on antibiotic for 6 weeks she is hoping to go home at that time it's been a long haul for her think she has been in rehab since Feb... but not totally sure... if they had just taken this route when the infections started she wouldn't have had to suffer this way for so long. two of my dd's are coming up this weekend one in time for the 4 my youngest on Friday... her husband's days off are Weds and Thurs so am sure she didn't want to leave when she could spend the time with him. I normally go over to my mom's on Friday but think I will go over on Weds so I can spend the time with my kids... Judy glad that you made it back and not can decompress...Peggy be sure and tell Carolb hello for us that she is missed and hope that she will stay in touch...
am defrosting the fridge actually it is defrosting but now cooling off typically let it cool over night we will see what the temp is before I go to bed... was going to put the fan in but can't remember how to open it up... hate things that make me feel dumb you all have a good night...

Judy, that sounds like a miserable week! What a mess! Hopefully now tho, things will get taken care of with more involved. Hope the homes sell quickly without any complications. People with dementia can have lots of different moods that can change quickly and that can be very hard and exhausting to deal with. As long as you know you are doing what is in their best interest, that is all that matters.
Now you need to unwind, relax, decompress, take a deep breath and get caught up on your sleep! Poor thing!

Thanks, Barbie. I really need a night's sleep of more than 3-4 hours, so I am going to bed early. The current facility is lovely and has great meals and lovely rooms, however, some things we discovered at current assisted living facility:

- Their evacuation plan in case of a hurricane was a statement they made you sign when you checked someone in. It said something like, "All responsible persons for residents agree to come and pick up their relative or loved one within 24 hours notice in case of an impending need to evacuate the facility."
- This facility had no one at the front desk between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am. The door was unlocked and anyone could come or go without a code or a key. In other words, anyone off the street could wander around the public spaces and halls all night. Even during the day, no one stops people who come in. And I never saw any building security personnel, outside or inside.
- When I asked the nursing supervisor which of the five levels of care my aunt and uncle were paying for that the facility offered, she could not find anything in her records that told her what that was, so she said she would have to check!!! And she was scheduling caregivers and supervising all resident care.
- The private caregivers we hired were assisting with all showers, dressing, and other services the facility was supposed to be providing. The nursing supervisor said this was because it was "easier." Obviously.
- The assisted living facility had not had a medical evaluation of my aunt and uncle performed before signing them up to their apartment. A medical evaluation that includes screening for dementia is required by Florida law. The person who accepted their application and took their $3,500 entry fee, plus their check for the first month's fee of $9,000 was a marketing person, not a medical person. - With great difficulty, I got a copy of the contact they signed. My aunt signed in a lot of places and initialed each page, but my uncle's signature (which is tiny and easily recognizable) appeared only a couple of times. The rest of the times, his signature did not match his real signature, so someone else signed this contact for him. Basically, they let a couple with dementia sign a contact without making sure they were competent and even forged his name. Or maybe my slimy cousin did this, but he had no authority to act for them as he did not have POA--we did.

And this is just what we discovered in three days. There was likely more. It was quite an education for us.
