Rain Comin’ Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rain Comin’ Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:39 am

Morning all. Looks like another rainy spell heading in for next couple days. Have had a lot of rain this spring and cool temps too. Not that there haven’t been nice days too. Yesterday was another perfect June day. Sunshine, gentle breeze, comfty temps etc. Spent the majority of the day working in my trailer, giving it a good cleaning, installing some new curtain rods, doing few cosmetic upgrades etc. Still have few things to do, but decided it was time to quit and mow grass before this rainy weather sets in. Some of my neighbors must have had same thought as mowers were buzzing around here and there.

Appt. and some errands on agenda this morning, carpet cleaner coming this afternoon. Too bad it will be raining as dogs won’t have a dry spot to lay for awhile, in or out. Well, there is the kitchen floor. Piper will probably just hop on my bed, but Molly has no interest in furniture.

Stuff I ordered for trailer has been coming in, and some of it being returned. Hard sometimes to order online, then get it, only to find color, size or whatever not quite what you hoped for or doesn’t fit in with color scheme like you thought etc. So looking around some more. Kinda changed up on a couple ideas anyway.

So guess I had better get a move on here. Hope you all have a great day. Barb, you sound really content in your new home. Enjoy making it yours.

"Morning all. I need to throw the last bit of stuff in the rig, hook up the Honda, bath a dog and pull out of the driveway for Kalamazoo, Michigan, and the UKC Premier Dog Show that starts tomorrow at the Expo Center and Fairgrounds in Kalamazoo. It may rain one of the days but the reports call for much more moderate temperatures than the humid baking we experienced last June. I can work with that gladly.

If anyone is in the area feel free to stop by. We show fairly early in the morning but more important than the Josef dog are all the other diverse performance events going on all day from dock diving, obedience, Rally, agility, nose work, lure coursing, drag racing...... And this year it won't be so hot as to deter me from walking outside and maybe watching some of the events.

May everyone find a fine day waiting for them today. I sometimes think of my days as a blank pallet waiting for an inspiration to be filled in. May your day be a masterpiece.

Good morning all. It’s a beautiful but cool morning here today. I have running around to do today but wanted to stop by and say hi. Going to meet a friend for lunch and then I should get home and mow before the rain moves in late tonight int tomorrow. But need to stop at Lowe’s too since I’ll be close. Been a busy time for me. Between helping move oldest son and family and helping around the new house where needed I was on the road every day. Young son’s oldest graduated last Friday night and starts summer classes at PSU the end of the month. Where have the years gone? So many sweet memories of his growing up. So this week has been mine to catch up on my housework and such. Saturday I get the puppy to stay with me while oldest and wife are out of town. Hope we can work on the housebreaking! Maybe Rascal can help there.
Right now I’m traveling in my head. But making plans to head up to NY after the 4th of July for a few days. That’ll be about the soonest I can get away. Tina, have fun at the dog show. Barbie, glad things are falling into place for you and you are enjoying your new home. Been reading but can’t keep up with what everyone’s doing! Okay, need to get moving and out the door. Hope everyone is having a great day and travel safe.

Good morning gals!

I decided to get up early while it is still on the cooler side (mid 80's!) and get my car unloaded and maybe get another load of stuff from the storage unit before it heats up again. Another excessive heat warning today with a high of 117* , so will spend most of the day inside, other than a trip with Lola to the vet's office this afternoon.

I also am getting more decorating ideas for the house. My bedroom is kind of a tropical theme but decided to add a little tiki decor to it as well. Got inspired by a tiki piece the previous owner left behind. Also changing up the colors for the bathroom from what I had in the old house. Found a really pretty shower curtain on line that has a teal and deep orange orchid design on it. Will get matching towels. That will add some nice color to the bathroom! Living room will be green and beige with a woodsy look to it. The porch will be a southwest theme. The kitchen will stay the same red and beige colors I had at the other house. I love lots of color as you can tell. I cringe when watching all the flipping and remodeling shows on TV where every single house they design is gray, white and black now. No color what so ever anymore! Colors give a place lots of personality and life!

Have a good day! :D

Barbie, I'm going to have to quit complaining about 90 degree weather if you're going to keep having 117 degree days. Since the cool front our temperatures have been nice. I went down to the pond at 10:30 and it was 75. It's only 80 now. I hadn't been noticing any mosquitoes but they swarmed me this morning. I had to turn around and come get some Off. I'm trying to decide if I am going to town or back to the pond. The fish were biting pretty good but I needed another container of worms.

Tina, good luck at the show. I wouldn't mind going back up to the lake this weekend but I have two campouts the 20-23 and 27-30. I hate to ask my neighbor to feed 3 weekends in a row. He is not getting around all that great. I would pay his grandson to feed but I have seen how well he takes care of his calves.

LOL. I love just about any color - so long as it's some shade of beige.

It's 106 here! Went to same salon but different gal and she managed to get my long hair shorter one side than the other! And nope not going back to let her keep cutting until its even. Darn, now I have to find a new person.!
Not doing anything at van until it begins to cool tonight! I found a temp sensor for inside fridge which pairs to my iPhone. Will report on our gadget board once I have a few weeks with it. Mandy is settling in to her jail aka spare room with less howling to be let out. We take turns visiting every other hour. Supposed to drop into 90's they said for Thursday on last nights news, hope tonight they don't change that. Dog show with all the outdoor performances sounds fun. Barbara sounds like you are making it your own. I'm not for the beige trend either! Rain sounds good about now!

Big news this afternoon. One of Mel's final wishes was to have his death certificate correctly identify his cause of death, so future researchers could find his case and tissue slides on searching states data bases. Admin at UCD sent the Death Certificate to the wrong Dr, a primary care Dr who barely knew who he was, as his Oncologist was in charge to the end. Dr Stupid made up a cause of death and signed the DC. Once written its basically law and can only be amended by that Dt. It took my Funeral home 9 months to get the Dr to quit playing cat and mouse and read the letter from the oncologist and sign the amendment which was already prepared (since last Oct it's been ready). Got news today, the amendment went through and now we have a correct DC with correct cause of death. Despite extensive evidence to contrary that stupid Dr wrote coeroary artery disease and cardiac arrest. Not once did she call to even ask or express sympathy though we have been patients in that practice ( Mel's long time Dr died and she was hired by the senior Dr) for over 20 years. I and my sons are relieved to fulfill one of Mel's last wishes. Yes ive had a few tears today...

Martha: It has been 105+ at my house here north of Sacramento, Ca., for the last several days. I suspect about the same at Velda's house as well.

90 sounds cool, but then again we don't have your humidity here.

I'm sure I couldn't put up with all the rain you get there. How do you bear it?

I like beige better than gray. It is at least a little warmer color.

Martha, your 90's and high humidity are probably at least as miserable as our 117 and very low humidity. I remember in MN when it was in the 90's with a lot of humidity and it literally sucked the life out of me! This feels incredibly hot but I can still function in it, altho I can't be out too long. Probably need to drink more water too.

I took Lola to her vet appointment. They really need to not overbook their appointments. I read the reviews of the place, which were great except for the long waits in the waiting room. My appointment was for 2:45 and I didn't get called in until after 4:00! Finally got out of there around 5pm. That isn't fair to the pets or their owners to make them sit around that long. Anyways, the vet decided to put Lola back on the Flagil and Prednisone like she was on before and probably keep her on a low dose of Pred from now on. He still needs to see the blood work results from the other vet (who never sent over the records) to see if they did any tests on her thyroid. Lola is always so good at the vets office. She is so calm and never says a meow. She isn't happy, just deals with it well. :D Martha, is Mandy quarantined because of the radiation?

Got a lot of junk in here hauled to the dumpsters today. Porch is now totally empty so I can bring stuff from the storage unit and put it in there for now. I should get up around 6am tomorrow to go to the storage unit before it gets hot again.

Got invited by a neighbor to go with her and a group from here to eat out for dinner today. I guess they do that every Wednesday evening in the summer with those who stay year round. They pick a different restaurant each time. I was going to go but ended up at the vets office too long and missed out. Will have to plan on next Wednesday.

Have a good night!

not sure what it got to temp wise here hot enough to open a couple of windows and the door hasn't happened this spring more than once or twice... so was happy to do it... also got my plants planted but it was just my planters I had down in Q have other's I still need to plant... and plants to get to do so plus I want to plant some planters at mom's house.
I was thinking the other day that when a person sells their house they are asked to de humanize it... take all the personal stuff out if something that isn't nutural to make it so.. but when they are selling new homes they really stage the model it just seems so opposite
I think the sun wiped me out not used to just had to nap but it was a short one
made biscuits and gravy for supper... tasted good.
My son in law must have liked the crisp yesterday as it's gone I had 2 servings one being the last... anyway he said tonight that it was so good just melted in his mouth... I was impressed myself will have to beg someone for more rhubarb and make another one...
have a good remainder of the night

Mandy is Velda's cat. She probably has to be shut up because of her treatment.

When it's in the 90's here and the humidity is high it's miserable. I really enjoyed the temperatures today. I think we have a couple more days of cooler weather and then back to heat and rain. I guess I'm use to all the rain. It's been a couple of years since we have had a burn ban. If we go a few weeks without rain all the green turns to brown and wants to burn.

I stopped by the vet's today to make an appointment for Hank's annual check up. The vet ask about Sweety Pie. He thinks I should do physical therapy with her broken leg. We'll see what Sweety Pie thinks of that. She is upset for some reason today. CC must have hurt her sometime, she is afraid of him. She is usually sleeping on my feet but she is hiding under the bed.

Yep, Martha, I meant Velda.

I bought two Hibiscus plants and they are not doing very well. I will probably have to bring them inside for the summer. Luckily, all my other plants are fake!

Lola is sitting out in the hot sunroom. I think she will love that room once I get it furnished and it is cooler during the days. I brought her cat tree so she will be able to look out the window at the birds.

Speaking of birds... when I got home earlier, there was a roadrunner on the outside porch trying to get in thru the sliding glass door. I had to chase him off before he hurt himself!

Velda, I just love your calling the doctor, Dr. Stupid! And Barbie, don't for get the before photos so we can enjoy the after ones! (PS, I like beige also, You can add red and orange and anything else to it, and if you change your mind, you just buy new throw pillows!)

Been going nuts today. It is final exam week and students cannot find the right room to take their final exam because they did not read the emails I sent. Another was upset because his proctor did not get his exam, but I figured out he had given me the name and email of a different proctor! Plus another instructor had posted wrong room number for eight of my students, so I had to send them another email, which they will probably not read. And most of this as I was driving in 98 degree heat.

Still working on the POA. Paralegal sent us letter from nurse for my aunt instead of letter from doctor, so she has to get another letter, and until she does so, and until her boss sends us a letter saying our POA is legal, we aren't signing or approving anything. In meantime, aunt and uncle keep wandering and assisted living place is tracking them down and watching them. Hired 24 hour private care nurse to watch them today. I talked to aunt and uncle's long time lawyer in GA for his advice on whether this is legal and also asked him to vet this lawyer in Florida--check up on him to make sure he is ethical, etc. And this all took a couple of hours of phone conversations in rest areas and a bunch of emails. Whew.

Barbara, yes Mandy is on two weeks without close contact with us. That is to protect us from her radiation. We are allowed a total of 30 min in 24 hours to feed, water, clean litter box and pet her a little. So in 11 more days she gets free run of he house again. The "half life " of Iodine131 is 8 days. Half life is the time it takes for a particular isotope to lose half it's radioactivity and for each isotope it's different. The state and federal government set guidelines for how low it must be before they go home and how long owners must stay at least 3 ft away except for brief periods. All used cat litter must be scooped and flushed or double bagged and stored away from where any person or animal could come in contact with it for 3 months then tossed in trash. Handwashing is key to prevent spreading radioactivity as most is shed by the cat via urine, feces, and saliva. Mandy misses me and tries to climb me each time I go in the room, but I tell her I love her and set her down. It's somewhat inconvenient but compared to having her die an early and miserable death because she had such a bad reaction to the RX, it's worth it and health wise, as Drs said, side effects from the I-131 are virtually non existent unless the cats bad thyroid cells over react to I-131 and die off so quick the cat has a crisis. The other issue is if the thyroid is not caught early the cat may have kidney disease or heart disease that gets worse having been masked by the high thyroid. overall the I-131 is 95-98% cure with first treatment. If a second treatment is required, there is usually no extra cost other than the hassle of days in hospital followed by another period of confinement at home. But as I said, that's only 2 to 5% of cats. If your cat is easy to pill and tolerates the RX methimazole, it's a daily treatment for life to stave off (not cure) the effects of hyperthyroid at upwards of $50 a month plus lab tests to monitor vs complete cure for about $2000. thre are places in most states to have the I-131 done, often with web cams for owners and heavy glass through which animals have a view. Though UCD has been a leader in this, their new building with all those fancy options is not completed yet, but I know they took good care of her and the entire week I got 2-3 calls a day to report what she was doing and how she was eating and how her exam by Dr went.
