Good Morning. Guesss Storm Comin isn’t really new news for anybody. The whole country is getting battered it seems. We have freezing rain than rain in our forecast. Rain we don’t need with frozen ground and 2 feet of snow on it. But tomorrow it changes to snow, so that will help cover the icy side roads, walks, drives etc., that are going to freeze and turn to skating rinks. Only 1-3 inches, so not bad. U.P. Is going to take the heavier snow.

I’m nice and toasty in my house, food in fridge and freezer, so don’t care other than there’s always that power outage worry, but I’ve been very lucky in that regard. BJ, the water pipes were fine without the heat. They are insulated to begin with, as is the basement and the heating techs who are also plumbers, said they would be okay for one night. He was here at bit after 8 yesterday morning and boiler was in operation before 10, so House was nice and warm again by noon. I could have waited till Heating season was over, but then they are busy with air conditioners and such, plus the discount special this month plus the rebate from the gas company was too tempting to pass up. $1300 is nice moola to put in the checkbook.

So, since we are in for crappy weekend weather, I’m going to give the kitchen a good cleaning, get my tax information ready to go for Monday’s appt. etc. Next week’s weather looks so so too, so will start on spring cleaning. Then off to put last year’s camping adventures in a scrapbook. Fun stuff.

Not so toasty in here this morning. Woke up to 50 degrees! Brrr! Called the furnace people and I guess they got tied up at another job yesterday so they are coming out sometime this morning. My roommate has been sick so she went to her sons house to stay warm.

I have cleaning and organizing projects to do today. The sun is out so that motivates me more. Just can't seem to find any energy to do anything when it is cloudy or rainy out. I do need to figure out how the weed killing applicator works on the stuff I bought and take care of the millions of overgrown weeds in the yard, so might do that when it warms up some later on.

Just found out that my brother and his wife had to put their dog down yesterday. She sent out an email about their life with him and I thought I would post part of it here as I am sure many of you can relate to...

"...Which brings me to one of the mysteries of dog-ownership. I know from past experience that I WILL NOT be relieved by my new freedom and I will instead miss all those accommodations and all those things that you do for your dog almost more than anything else. Because there is a weird quid pro quo thing going when you love a dog. You feed them, walk them, clean up after them, take them to the vet, shape your daily life around their schedules and more. And in return....yes, you get the unconditional love and loyalty, no small thing. But you get something else too, harder to define. For me I think it is that having a dog ramps up my enjoyment of life. They are living, breathing reminders of living life in the present and enjoying the many small pleasures of every day living. For example, every morning when Stan would come in from his outside potty, I would give him a hard-boiled egg. I will never forget what he looked like on the other side of the patio door waiting for me to let him in while he anticipated that egg. Unadulterated excitement, shining eyes, quivering body, dramatically wagging tail."

YES there is a huge storm arriving here later today thru Tuesday. Mainly a big ole rain event for us but the mountain passes will be treacherous and windy (so they say). I have nowhere I have to go or be so can just hunker down with a good book or a movie.

Malia's daughter found someone in the RV park who volunteered to drive the Motorhome and tow the car to Texas in return for a ticket back on the train. He didnt want to fly back wanted to see the country when he isn't driving. He is a retired truck driver and lives in his 5th wheel. The park owners gave him a thumbs up. So she flew out this morning to return home. She put the box of Malia's ashes in the passenger seat and seat belted them in for her "Mama's Last Ride", I thought that was great.

Barbie, your brothers message just about sums it up. I (as most dog owners) always say I am "owned" by a very special dog.

Still planning camping things to do. Will probably go back to the Pow Wow in Redding this October, it was lots of fun. Things to see around that area also, so hoping maybe some others will join us this year. Now need to fill in the other months ha ha

Big day. I defrosted my freezer lol... I love discovering things that go hiding. Actually have more good stuff in there than I realized.

While the ground snow is mostly gone, there's a reason I don't go into the desert after heavy rain or snow. You would have laughed as I sank. I was very glad to be wearing shoes, not my Crocs. On the other hand the snow capped Dragoons are absolutely gorgeous... And I doubt that snow will be around much longer... It's actually going away quickly today. This pic is from this morning.

Sorry to hear about your furnace, Barbie. My A/C unit is from 1970 so I suspect I will have to replace it sometime, but since I only use it for a few hours a day when its really hot, I hope it holds out for another year or two.

Sue, It sounds so cold there. Glad you got your boiler working again.

Beth, the snow capped Dragoons are beautiful - thanks for sharing them with us.

Spent last week in WA with my 6-month old twin nieces. They are adorable & thriving but as different as night & day. One is super easy & lay-back - she self-soothes & just covers her eyes when she's tired & goes to sleep. The other one is very active & can't soothe herself yet AND doesn't require much sleep. My brother works from home when he can to help out & now I can see why.



It was good to get home - back to sunshine & my routine but I do miss those sweet faces.

Looking forward to some time with Olivia this weekend.

My new furnace is in! Yay! They said the old one was in really bad shape and this one should be so much more energy efficient. I hope so!

While they were doing that, I started on the weeds but couldn't get the weed stuff to work so went to WM and got another bottle. Used that mostly on all the stinging nettles around the yard. I also bought a long handled snipper thing to trim back my apricot tree and some other overgrown trees and bushes. Now for the inside stuff. It is a beautiful day!

How about an outside photo of your yard, Barbie? I know you are still working on it, but this could be the Before photo. Then later, you can send us an After.

I decided I needed to clean my freezer also. Did not find much good stuff, unfortunately. Tossed out a lot of odds and ends that are past their prime. I have two really nice steaks, but that was all in terms of meat, so I need to do some shopping, even though I just went shopping this week--twice! Need bacon and something for dinner, maybe some pork for a change??

Monday, I go out early to finish up my physical therapy and will get the meat then. Tuesday, I have another test scheduled and on Wednesday is my usual blood work and long day at doctor's office. It will be my last blood work for a whole four weeks! Yea!

Last week, I went through testing for my cataract surgery and am waiting for them to call me to schedule--probably at end of May. I decided I wanted to have implants for long distance instead of intermediate and reading, but the more I think about it, I will probably have to wear sunglasses anyway, so maybe i should go for intermediate distance????

Got my laundry done yesterday, and planning on leaving here on Thursday to head south. Really looking forward to get out of cold and rain, which of course happens almost every single day.

Judy, I had the surgery that’s done for cataracts but didn’t have cataracts. I just didn’t want to wear any type of glasses. The artificial lenses they put in are for all distances - close, intermediate and far. Within 2 hours of the second surgery, I drove home and stopped at the DMV on the way. I passed the vision test and they removed the glasses requirement from my license. That was 8 years ago and I sure have enjoyed not having to wear glasses. Good luck.
