It’s Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

It’s Saturday

Postby Othersharon » Sat Nov 10, 2018 11:14 am

Good morning to all. I got up to snow on the ground this morning! Not much but with the wind gusting it sometimes looks like whiteouts. Snow and leaves blowing around! And it’s super cold with the wind chill. Glad I don’t need to go out today. It’s a good day to just stay in and warm! The sun is coming and going.
Been watching all the fires in CA. Anne, so glad you are okay. I was wondering how close the fire was to you also. Thanks for checking in. And to Sandi for calling you. You all out there, stay safe. Be it from fire or the smoke. Wish we could sent some of the rain we’ve had to the west coast. Martha, have a good time in TX. Sue, did you get to use your new snowblower? I’m hoping I can keep my old one running another season! I may need it sooner then later if this crazy weather keeps up! I’m so not ready for this....but then I never am! We are waiting for a few dry days so I can get the cover on Lola but so far it hasn’t happened! I can only hope that at some point things dry out enough to get it done. Beth, working in the library sounds like heaven to me! Hope it works out. Glad you were able to sell your scooter.
So enough rambling from me. Hope you all have a great week end and find something fun to do.

Nope Sharon, no snowblower. It hasn’t been delivered yet and there’s not enough snow to bother with. We probably have about 2-3 inches at most on the ground, but it had been melting off the pavement all day yesterday. Once the temp dropped last night and froze things up, then it covered my drive, but less than an inch. But like you, I’m staying in and doing inside stuff. Nice and cozy in here. Just finished installing some plastic shrink wrap window film on My bow window, that stuff really does help keep cool air at bay. Also made and installed some vinyl storm windows on back side of house. Kind of an experiment persay. Been tweaking things a bit as the weather cools down more. Next up is cleaning my hot water best baseboards.

Sure don’t like the latest report from Anne this morning. Air is very unhealthy there now. Suggested to her that she evacuate for health reasons if nothing else and 30-40 miles is to close to that fire with those winds changing around etc. and the speed it’s moving and spreading out.

Martha, sounds like kind of a fun rally you are at. Shirl, how’s the list making, decision thinking coming along? Beth, didn’t know you were working in a li rsry. I did that for a number of years.

Well, guess I should get constructive around here a bit more. Will be dog walking time before I know it. Got to see if I have any ice cleats for my boots as road might be a little slick. Have a nice afternoon everyone.

Good morning gals!
Just got back from our Vets breakfast at the clubhouse. Was pretty good but not a real big turnout. Maybe more will come later.

Sue, Beth was looking into volunteering at the library for the winter in her community. I would love that also.

Chilly in the house yet this morning but warming up outside already. No plans for the day. Lots to do inside so just need to figure out where to start.

Lola's looking at the caterpillar in it's enclosure. She never pays attention to the fish tho. Emily is fascinated by the fish. So cute to watch her paw at the fish tank!

Hoping they can make some progress on the fires today. Heard that people are taking their horses down to the beaches near Malibu.

Enjoy your day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

We had the volunteer library meeting and I'm signed up to take a Sunday shift any time I'm in the park. I picked Sunday because it's often a travel day for me so I could probably do more of them.

Half an hour and I'll go to the Veterans luncheon. Barbie, how was your breakfast?

I second that I think you should get away from the fires, Anne. If at all possible, take a trip.

For those of you with snow I guess I shouldn't say I'm in a sun dress, should I?

This is going to be an interesting winter. It is just early November, and temps at night are just at freezing. Highs have been in mid to upper 50s. Been using my small electric heater, but last tank of propane lasted only 17 days, so I can see I will have to fill it every couple of weeks. I could go with an extra tank, but I think I need to actually drive this thing once or twice a week anyway, just to keep the engine and other parts moving. December and January should have highs in upper 40s and lows around 34, which is milder than a lot of places, I guess.

I bought some window film, so I am going to try to cover a couple of windows today. Also, I do have a second heater, so I will get that out today and plug it in. Been warm at night because I have my down comforter and lots of other bedding if I need it.

We had a warning early yesterday about smoke level, but it went away around noon. Sorry to hear about all the smoke and the fires everywhere.

Good Afternoon, Big temperature drop in Maryland, need to wear your snuggies. I don’t really wear snuggies I just like to say it. :D I can’t bear to look at the two beautiful ferns on the deck, know they are dying. Big changes for me. Gave up the RV, traded flower beds for pots and now will not have room for outdoor flower pots either. Woke up this morning and thought that’s ok, I have two daughters and will plant pots all over their yards. They still think I have all my marbles and will go along with me. My pen pal is my 10 yr. old great granddaughter, we correspond by snail mail :o . I already warned her I might be rocking on her front porch or sitting by the pool. I decluttered the closets a couple of years ago so they are good to go. The office is the biggest problem, what to save. I took care of three elderly relatives and still have their papers. During that time the bank put my name erroneously on one of their cds. Over the last ten years the IRS came after me a couple of times for tax on the interest. It was easier to pay the $27.00 and then $12.00 then fight with them. I am afraid to get rid of anything because the government might need an additional $3.00 or something. My neighbor says she will really miss me. I will invite her to visit me in the apartment complex. We can go look at the equipment in the exercise room. Not use it, just look at it. Safe travels.

Love your attitude about the workout room, Shirlv! Can you get a couple of big plastic bins and sort the really essential things into them, and possibly get one of your daughters to store them? I talked my son in Ohio into storing 10 bins of family stuff. I ended up with my parent's stuff and even some of my grandparents stuff. I had stuff from my brother, but gave it all to his daughter.

UPDATE: I put shrink film on two windows in my motorhome, and am hoping it will cut down on drafts. The high today was only 46, but we had a couple of hours of sunshine, which helped. I also dug into my basement storage and found my old, spare electric heater, so now I have two going--one in living area and one in back. It is old, but it worked, but I probably should get a newer one in case this one gives out. Got to find ways to keep this place warmer this winter in Oregon without buying propane every week! Supposed to be a high of 54 tomorrow, which is better at least.

I have enough film to do a couple more windows, but I have been having muscle spasms in my back for the last three weeks, and whenever I stretch to reach something, I get a sharp spasm. I have a prescription for muscle relaxants, luckily. Will try to tackle another window tomorrow. Brrrrr!
