Election Day 2018

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Election Day 2018

Postby Colliemom » Tue Nov 06, 2018 7:19 am

Good Morni g, coffee’s ready. Chilly with a cold rain coming down. Going to be a wet Election Day here. Time to haul out the rain gear. I’ll go vote in a while and then head to town to run errands and talk to snowblower dealer about getting a new one before the snow really flies. As is, we have rain/snow in forecast for tomorrow, followed by lake effect snow showers for rest of week with some accumulations possible.

Martha, I have used a product called Joint Care from Drs. foster and Smith for Couple of dogs and it really helped them. They have a website on the internet. It’s a formula they made themselves and not a vet prescribed medication. They sell all kinds of pet supplies.

Barbie, I’m glad you stick to your guns when cutting hair. I hate having my hair cut lickity split. A good hair cut needs to be done in a manner that allows time to make sure it looks good the first time. I wasn’t too impressed with the New Great Clips that opened in town here last month, for that reason.

Time to get a move on here. Few things to do before I head to the polls. We have a lengthy and important ballot this year so they are expecting big turn out and weather isn’t going to stop us. Have a nice day everyone and stay safe from weather, while on roads etc.

Good morning (almost noon!). :D

Took about an hour last night to go thru the election ballot. Lots of propositions and measures on it that I had to read about. Very confusing so hopefully I chose the right ones. Definitely chose to do away with the daylight savings time change. I will be glad to have this election over with and hopefully it will bring about some positive changes.

I got pretty much nothing done yesterday. Had a splitting headache all day that I couldn't get rid of. I have been grinding my teeth a lot so I know that doesn't help much. Have been feeling very stressed about the political stuff lately. Even the girls at work said I have been crabby

Warm and sunny today with a nice breeze blowing thru. My house is very open with lots of big windows and the porch on the back side so I get a wonderful cross breeze thru here.

Hope you all enjoy your day! Sheila, have a safe trip to Q!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

As of yesterday, Josef's food looked almost healed up. The vet did wrap it back up one more time but said that would probably be the last. He is scheduled for at least one more laser treatment on Wednesday. I am nervous to let him move around without protection on that new skin since it was his moving around on the incision that caused the main damage to begin with. I think I may keep a bootie on him when he goes outside. He is just so active and strong in his movements.

Leaving soon to meet up with some of the people I started work with in 1975. It was just the dawn of the disability movement when the IDEA law got passed giving student's rights but school districts still kept hoping that parents wouldn't know that. Sadly, even years later I would come up against Superintendents that still didn't understand that it was the home school districts responsibility and not the county program's..... Those first years there weren't even IEP to be written and the State Department of Education wasn't involved with our credentialing. Most of us at least had 4 year college degrees but many of us did not hold teaching certificates when we started. Those came later when we all had to be grandfathered in under the Department of Education.

I am picking up the RN that supervised our program at the time. She spend most of her energy those early years trying to make sure that we were following the board of health regulations and documenting everything as anyone who is a nurse knows it most important. If you give a medication, you write it down, etc..... I learned from my nurses that if something isn't written down, dated and signed....it didn't happen. I learned to document and take good notes.

Tina, I remember way back in the 60s before schools were required to provide education for disabled children. I had two cousins about 6 and 8 years younger than me who were moderately and profoundly "mentally retarded" and not allowed to attend school. Parents were supposed to keep them at home or institutionalize them. And I remember visiting one of those institutions in 1964--really horrible places with kids and adults crawling around on the floors or stuck in chairs of some sort. My aunt and a couple of parents got the public school district to give them an old and empty two-room school where they started their own classes for their children in about 1964. There were no real teachers, educational plans, or any financial support from school districts, but it was better than the institutions. The "boys" are now adults in their 60s and doing well in a group home where they do more than stare at a TV all day.

I used to babysit for these two cousins on Sunday afternoons so their parents could go out bowling for some respite. It was not easy, but I managed as a teenager. People need to remember how far we have come in the past 40+ years in terms of educating everyone, so I was glad to see your reminder.

Got another very good night's sleep last night and lost a little of my steroid weight this morning. Whew!

Lucked out overnight as the tornadoes missed my area. Several rounds of severe thunderstorms however. Poor Nicky was in deep hiding. Sky started clearing just after daylight and it has turned out to be a beautiful weather afternoon.

Tina, I don't know if kids with Dyslexia fell within that program. Sure did not have any help when I was in school. I was classified as mildly retarded and more or less socially promoted each year to the 4th grade. I was one of the lucky one however as my 4th grade teacher knew what the problem was and helped me cope with it. She also gave me most test orally since reading was so difficult. I sincerely believe I would never have finished school had it not been for that wonderful teacher who went beyond the call of duty to help me.

Several family members dealing with various health issue. Could use some positive vibs or prayers now.

If you have not voted yet, please do before polls close.

Bluepinecones, I was lucky enough to attend a very tiny school district with understanding teachers and administrators. In the class behind me, there were two kids with Down's Syndrome, who in the 1950s were allowed to attend school like regular kids, which was very unusual then. The kids and teacher gave them both a lot of help. I don't know what happened to them after elementary school, but at least they were in school and able to socialize.

In my class, we had a boy who had grand mal seizures daily. (That was another category of disability that was not allowed in school way back then.) The boy who sat behind him had the job of helping him slowly fall down when he had a seizure to make sure he never hit his head. The rest of the class was used to this and never even stopped their reading! So we all saw literally hundreds of seizures in elementary school. It used to drive substitute teachers nuts, but we kids were OK with it.

And I think my best friend had Dyslexia, which was not even recognized then. It is good to know that some kids got the attention they needed back in those olden days.

Made it to Cedar City Utah on my way south got here just before dark...had to have the shocks on the front of the truck replaced I hope that they truly needed to be done but he explained that they had actually seized up and weren't working and making the tires wear weird hopefully I won't need to replace the tires before I head north again..it stresses me out
am going to go to Needles CA tomorrow wish I could go further as that is where the winds are but once you leave Needles nothing until Parker then Q and in my opinion driving from here Cedar City to Q is too far even though google says it is 6 hours left today at about 10:30 arrived here about 5 ish it is 385 miles more or less to Q I guess we will see how bad the winds are and then decide
