Cold Thursday

Good morning all. Well, the weather sure took a turn last night! Canada left the door open again! But on the upside the sun is out! We may get a couple of days in a row with sun. Yippee! Makes the mood better! I drained all the water from Lola but so far that’s it. I have Jim coming to winterize but need to get him on a Thursday since Dr. Sue wants her rig done too and that’s the day of the week she doesn’t have office hours. So I can only hope I’ve done enough for now. Cold nights but warming up a bit during the day.
I finally got my shopping done yesterday afternoon. Not sure why I put it off for so long but had to do it since I was out of almost all the essentials! Plus I wanted to pick up some split peas to make a pot of soup. I have some ham left over and frozen so I can make it in the next few days. Been hungry for it.
Irmi, glad you made it down to your winter home. Beth, sounds like you’re enjoying taking your time getting to your warmer place too. Judy, long day today it sounds like. But hopefully you can rest up when you get to where you’re going!
Today’s a putter around the house day. If the wind dies down a bit I may be able to get out and clean up some leaves. Trees are still green but turning fast now. Leaves will be an ongoing issue for awhile!
Hope everyone has a good day and travel safe if you are on the road.

Morning, Sharon, and those who follow. I know I have to walk Ty soon, but we've got thunder and rain... So far he's still sleeping. But I can't stay in bed forever (although I've been awake 2 hours so far lol) Unlike some dogs, he will walk in the rain with no qualms, no hurries.

Nothing planned today... Maybe I'll pull the pressure cooker out and see what's in the freezer in dire need of becoming soup or something similar.

It’s 54 here and windy but the sun is shining. I made a pot of Italian Wedding soup yesterday. Needed kale for soup so went to the store also wanted one apple turnover. They only had packages of 4 so bought one. It’s sad the sacrifices I make for poor ole Shirl. safe travels

Shirl , you cracked me up twice. Kale must be a new version of Italian Wedding Soup. :)

And, oh, yes, that 4 pack is a great marketing strategy!

Good Morning
Quick break and back to work for early release, one more day of this. But the dogs are happy to get out for poddy. Weather is at that point where not hot enough for ac, and not cold enough for heat. Love the sunshine, but the wind can certainly be gone!!! Its gusty but not unbearable. At least its not rocking us around.
Nothing else going on here, just trying to keep up on chores so I can get back out to the desert for a few days. Y'all have a great day, be safe and hope you get dried out soon.

Beth, Italians like spinach, I don’t so substitute kale. Life has been the pits lately so need reason to get out of bed. Apple turnovers does it for me. :D

Ha! Donuts get me out of bed!

I talked to the park manager this morning and he tells me there is "nothing to worry about" with the tree. He wants to wait and get more estimates but says if the tree should fall, it will fall towards the creek (and what arbor school did you go to sir??). So I have contacted two tree services to come out and take a look. One guy just showed up and says because of all the weight on the one side, it will most likely fall on the house. He saw two more smaller limbs towards the top of the tree that have broken off as well. He is going to write up an estimate with his conclusion about the safety of the tree for me to give to the manager. Just hope the Santa Anna winds don't pick up before this gets taken care of.

Have the day off so will get some things done around the house. It is a beautiful sunny day! :D

The manager just came by with a tree trimmer. The guy said he would be over tomorrow to take down the limb. I said I need the whole tree taken down. He said he agreed it would be a good idea, and then he upped the cost considerably for that, to the manager who wasn't happy about it. The manager is still trying to weasel out of taking the whole thing down! It better all be gone tomorrow night!

Sounds like it may be time to check your Homeowner's Insurance policy to be sure that damage by falling tree is covered. You might also ask the park manager (very sweetly, and with a smile on your face) what kind of liability insurance the park carries for damage caused to resident homes by falling trees.

That might get his attention.

You might also want to write a letter, and send it Certified Mail to the manager and to the park owner as well, so that you have a record that he was informed about the potential danger posed by this tree. Verbal conversations can be later denied.

I grew up in Southern California, and do remember the Santa Ana winds. As children, when these autumn winds were in force, we would get a big piece of cardboard and tie it to our backs, holding it with our arms outstretched, and stand on the sidewalk outside our house, and then jump just as we felt a big gust coming (Wiki says the winds can easily exceed 40 mph).

We would actually get airborne, if only for a second or two! It was actually quite thrilling.

No one should underestimate the power of the Santa Ana wind:

Be careful, hope you get the tree taken down soon.

Anne

Anne, funny you should say that! I was just thinking two minutes ago about calling my insurance agent about this! Will do that right now!
The tree trimmer said that either the winds or any rain could pose more of a threat so it is important to get this down soon. Haven't looked at the forecast recently to see what might be coming. Will do that too.

update: I just talked to my insurance agent (who' s office is right across the creek from me!) He says I am fully covered, so that is good. He is such a nice guy! Checked 10 day forecast...no chance of rain and winds at 10 mph or less. So that is good!
