Good morning Everybody. I do believe this is the first time that I've opened MC!! I don't know if any of you read Interstellar Orchard blog by Becky Shade, but I find her very thoughtful and she provides a lot of useful information. Today she gave several websites and contact info about forest fires. This is useful if you are planning a trip anywhere in the west during fire season. Enjoy today. Peggy

Yes, Peggy, I saw saw her post. I think I saved it so the next time if/when I head west I can find it again. I also like her narrative style and enjoy the glimpse into the full timing life style of those a generation behind some of us. The creative and diverse ways they figure out to still make a living and travel, etc. Some ways not so different and others ways very different.

Speaking of fires, the smoke has finally cleared here in the Columbia Gorge. Mostly it is windy today and the wind is from the NW, which has helped. There was a small fire in the gorge last weekend, but it is now out. Most of the big fires have been in the southwest of the state, near California.

The other thing to check before you visit the northwest is altitude and mountain passes. For example, there are a couple of big passes that I-5 goes through near Medford and there are also high roads every time you drive west to east and vice versa across the mountains. There can be snow and ice up there if you travel early in the spring or late in the fall.

Today is my last day here. Headed to the coast tomorrow morning. One good thing about the coast is that the wind comes off the ocean and clears the smoke, but of course you have to get there. I'll look at the website you suggested.

Last night I decided the master closet needed a second coat of paint (paneled walls in there) so I did that. Today my handyman came back and painted the upper walls of the bedroom, also paneling. He did two coats there but ran out of paint before touching up some thin spots so I picked up another quart of paint to do that tonight. Will also get started on the yellow in the bathroom. I have been online all day looking for things I need for storage and decorating. Needed a mirror for over the bathroom sink, shelf liner, and some extra shelving for the walk-in closet and a valance for the bedroom window. Hard to match colors on line but hoping they are close enough. I wanted yellow bath rugs but haven't been able to find yellow anywhere until I stopped up in Ramona last month at KMart and found some there. I picked up one while I was there but now decided I need another one so I ordered that on-line too. Everyone seems to carry yellow towels but not rugs. The only KMart around here is in Ramona about 50 miles away halfway up the mountain. Don't have time right now to make that trek. The cost of shipping is about the same as the cost of the gas to drive there and back.

It is warmer today and humid but there is a little breeze blowing.

Speaking of fires, another firefighter was killed in the Carr fire this week. So tragic!
