It’s Tuesday!

Good morning all. I dislike Monday holidays cause it always seems to mess up the rest of my week trying to figure out just what day it actually is! Yesterday seemed like a Sunday to me! Think it’s part of being retired! No school or work schedules to keep track of anymore! I’ve got no big plans in the works for today. Some yard work and finish some of the inside jobs I didn’t finish yet! For sure need to get ahold of the groomer to schedule summer cut for Rascal. He’s gotten pretty shaggy and the long coat is making him warm, I think. At least if his panting is any indication! I managed to get the air conditioner in the window yesterday. Think it gets heavier every year! Decided not to wait for son to put it in for me, might have been September before he thought of it again! Sure liked it when younger son was stationed here, could grab him for quick little things once in awhile!

Sounding like everyone staying busy either traveling or working! Judy, really enjoying your adventures in the U.K.! Beth, did Pepsi guy ever show up?

Enough rambling from me today! Gotta get busy! Have a great day all. Enjoy it wherever or whatever you’re doing!

Good morning, Sharon. So foggy today in the Northern Yorkshire Moors that I went out driving and could barely see 100' in front of me. Went back to pub I am staying at. One thing I have learned on this trip is to ask a lot of questions when making a reservation, but then ask more detailed questions. For example:

- If you ask about parking, and they say they have free parking, ask where the parking is and how far it is from the hotel. I have discovered for the last two places that the parking was street parking, and not necessarily directly in front of the hotel. Also, "free parking" may mean they give you a voucher for the public lot two blocks away!!! Even some big chains have no customer parking next to the hotel as we all expect.
- Also, if you ask about central heat, ask if it will be turned on while you are staying there. It has been very chilly here, and I was told told that it was May and they don't turn the heat on in May. Owner suggested I wear a sweater and pulled out an extra blanket, although he did finally get me a portable electric heater. Even hotels that have heat on often turn it on for only specific hours per day--like early morning and before bedtime. At night and during the day, it is turned off, and you can turn that knob on the radiators for hours and not get heat. FYI - Almost no hotels have AC, so don't bother asking.
- And if WiFi is free, for how long is it free? Once that was only for 30 minutes, then you had to buy a package!

Two things have really saved me--I got upgraded to a car with a backup camera, and I rented a GPS system. There have been a lot of spots I would not have gotten out of without that backup camera. And road signs are not very helpful in small villages, so the GPS has really helped get me unlost innumerable times. Only problem with the one I rented is that it will often tell you to turn left at "Dale Street" but the signs on the roundabout list only route numbers!! Looking at screen has been very helpful.

I'm thinking I might live. I didn't take anything at bed time and made it through the night. That didn't keep me from waking up with a head ache and blowing for an hour. I mowed late yesterday afternoon and I'm sure that didn't help my coughing.

It was a pretty boring day yesterday. I had forgotten to get a flag for my son's grave so went to Walmart and got one for him and for Harold's first wife. Her daughter usually asks me to put something but guess they forgot. Some how I ended up with 3 bags of potatoes so I cooked a big pot of mashed potatoes and froze them in individual servings. I have never frozen mashed potatoes before so don't know how that will work out. It was either cook them or I would have ended up throwing them away. My plan to eat what's in the freezer is slow going. I do have about a one foot square hole that's empty.

This time next week I have a colonoscopy. Oh joy! I wish they didn't make someone bring me. I would go in the camper and hang out in the parking lot until I felt like driving. I need to make an appointment for my annual eye exam and I should have everything checked out for a while.

Almost noon here already. Just got up.

I got a lot done around here yesterday! Yay me! Still have a lot more to do today, mostly the kitchen. Am cleaning stuff but also rearranging things. My den looks so much better. That was the worst room since that is where I spend all my time. Need to rearrange where I put things in the kitchen since it isn't working very well the way I have it now. Also need to clean up the front yard since I ripped out all the plants in front. Need to get them hauled to the dumpster after ripping out some more weeds in back. Then, when I get back from my trip, I will plant some flowers, etc.

I have discovered a couple more ant nests in the back yard. Any suggestions on what to use on those that won't hurt other critters (like my baby squirrels) that hang out back there? The little ant traps I have just aren't enough to take care of that many ants.

Martha, I hope you feel better soon! I think my cough is finally gone!!

Need to get something to eat here and get my butt going on stuff! It is my last day off before I leave on my trip a week from tomorrow!

Barb, we have used Sevin Granules with no bad effects on suqirrels, chipmunks or gophers. You sprinkle it on the ground and water it in well. No pets on lawn were it is sprinkled until dry which means Breezie has to stay in the house. She has allergies to grass and licks her paws most of the summer.

Thanks, I will look into that. For today, I just used vinegar and water where I found them. I am sure there are many more around here tho.
