The End Of February

A Cheery Good Morning to you all on this last day of February. Seems like we were just wishing each other a Happy New Year and the 3rd month of the year is upon us. That much closer to summer travels, camping trips and what not. I’m getting hitch itch with this great weather we have been having, knowing full well, it’s not going to last as winter isn't through yet. But other than ski resorts who are making snow, the winter sports season is all but over. But us Michiganders are a hardy bred and if one season goes bust, we change to another. With yesterday’s' 50 degree weather, people were out browsing in downtowns, walking dogs, riding bikes and some even play golf, riding ATV’s in place of snowmobiles etc. i took my dogs for a ride to Houghton Lake yesterday, picked up a mat and new frame for a picture I had enlarged, stopped at Camping World to get a paper towel holder for my kitchen, RV storage things and ideas work in houses too you know :) Renewed my Good Sam membership one a special two years for price of one deal while I was there. Then we stopped at one of the state parks and walked around for awhile, which they really enjoyed. Got another walk in later after we got home too. So they were really bushed last night.

Staying home today and doing some things in the house. Like Barbara, I have new curtains and valances to hang up too, but first need to install new rods. Hope the creek doesn’t rise too much for you Barbie.

Have a nice day everyone.

I'm sitting here having my morning coffee and decided to check in and see what's happening with the forum. Paulette and I are still in Silver Springs. She'll be leaving me on Sunday. Hoping Toni comes for a bit, but not sure it will work out for her. We met up with Sandy in Dunnellon, yesterday, and went kayaking on the Rainbow River. Paulette and I went early so we could go look at the headspring and waterfalls in the SP. I've been before, but she hadn't. The Azaleas are in bloom and some pretty butterflies were enjoying them. It finally cooled down to the 70's, but some kids were swimming. I guess, at that time, the water was probably warmer than the air. Met Sandy at KP Hole. Whatever did we do before cell phones? Sure makes coordinating and meeting up easier. It was the perfect day and a beautiful paddle down the river. With 2 vehicles, we didn't have to paddle upstream against the current. Saw turtles, fish, birds and water fowl, an otter, and almost ran into a resting gator  Gave me a little adrenaline rush  We drove to Ocala, after, and had an early dinner at one of Sandy's favorite seafood restaurants. It was delicious! Today, not so exciting. Laundry, dishes, clean house.

Opened one eye to a small boy standing at the foot of my bed, holding Drew's ball in the air.
"Not playing ball now. We're asleep." I called Drew onto the bed, and he put the ball down.
"I'm up!"
"I'm not up." I closed my eyes.
"My sister is up. My brother is up. My mom is up. Grammy is up."
"I am not up." Eyes still closed.
He left, and I giggled for five minutes.

Niece and her family are here. Yay!!! :D

Good Morning. My Mom would have turned 102 today... Miss her.

Today's going to be a cold day in the desert! It was beautiful yesterday until the winds came through. I can't complain (as I complain, lol). It's hard for me to believe that after I finish work this week... I'll have my week off, then my last work week here for the season. I've been offered a return but said no. Now the manager told me the owners would be happy to have me at another park if I want a change of scenery. I said I'll either take the winter off, or possibly take a position with some pay. The manager came back and told me to contact the owner, he'd be able to offer me some pay. Ah... Decisions!

Good Morning!

Houghton Lake? I will have to look that up. I will be passing through Houghton either the end of July or the beginning of August to go back to Isle Royale. I have only been there once but would go every year if it were possible. Heck, if I didn't have furbabies I might try to get a seasonal job there. But I am sure I will always have furbabies. They are like potato chips...you can't only have one!

Gators scare me. :)

So Beth, does this mean you won't be in South Dakota when I am there?

Have a wonderful day everyone. I will, it is finally warm enough to walk the dogs.

Beth, you made me get my calculator out. My mom would have been 102 in May. Yesterday was one of my brother's birthday. Hard to believe he's been gone 18 years. He left us way too soon.

Everyone in Florida seems to be having a good time kayaking and eating.

Some of my Louisiana friends are camping this weekend. Will have to see how Harold is doing tomorrow and I might go meet them. In 2 weeks they will be at the state park near me. Looks like we will have 20+ women again. I need to wash the mud off the golf cart and get my son to haul it to the campground for us.

I need to get moving. I keep waking up at 3:00 am and can't go back to sleep until about 6:00. Then I don't want to get up.

Martha

Ah, memories. The unexpected things that pop to mind when reading the posts on this forum. :D

Although my mom and I (mostly) never got along too well, I realize I do miss her, too, and have always wished we could have been closer. She passed when my daughter - my first child - was just two years old. My mom passed early, at age 66 (she would have been 98 this past December) - which seems very young to me now. She was a life-long, heavy smoker. Lung cancer got her in the end.

I was extremely asthmatic as a child, and came near to "checking out" more than once as a child from a bad asthma attack. In those days, asthma was considered a psychosomatic illness (a mental problem, rather than a physical one) so I was often told, as I struggled for breath, to "just get over it" - except those times when I was so busy trying to breathe that I had to stop eating and sleeping. Then a doctor visit might be in order.

Of course, these days it is understood that cigarette smoke is a major irritant to the respiratory system, and also can be a major trigger for an asthma attack.

When I reached age eighteen (and moved out of my childhood home to enter adulthood and live on my own) the asthma (mysteriously to everyone, then) cleared up almost completely within a matter of months. Everyone at the time thought that I finally got my head straight, and I was applauded. The real reason is that I finally escaped a constantly cigarette smoke-filled environment (my mother's live-in boyfriend was a heavy smoker too).

Perhaps consequently to this, I have never in my life smoked a single cigarette and have not had an asthmatic episode in decades (though one is always possible). I do still try to avoid cigarette smoke, because it still makes me feel the "tickle" in my lungs.

Good morning on this last day of February. It has been cold here in No central CA. My mother will be 99 in April. She's in pretty good health too.

Good afternoon gals!

Linda, glad to see you posting today. Sounds like you are having a great time visiting down in FL! Stay away from those gators tho! I too, love azaleas! So beautiful this time of year!

Still on the cool side here but the sun was out so was a beautiful day. I unloaded my storage unit today. Wasn't too happy with the place. I usually get billed on the 29th of the month, so I figured if I got everything out on the 28th, that I would be good, but they charged me $14. When I asked why, the guy said it is because it is a short month. Made no sense to me. Just another way to make a few more bucks I guess.

Got rid of the kitchen island that was left here by the previous owner. Sold it on NextDoor.com and the lady picked it up this afternoon. It is nice but just too big for the kitchen and I didn't need it anywhere else. Now I just need to get rid of the big couch on the porch that was also left here (I wanted it since I needed something to sit on before I bought new stuff).

I talked to the manager today and he stopped over to look at the trees in the creek. He said he has some tree trimmers coming by tomorrow so will see what they say about it. He agrees it could cause erosion along the bank in heavy rains. They are pretty good about getting things taken care of around here so hopefully this will get done soon. Supposed to be more heavy rain on Friday. I can video the water moving around the trees then, if they are reluctant to do anything about it, just so they know what I am talking about.

Need to get a gutter extension for the carport gutter. I noticed the water comes down the spout and hits the dirt alongside the driveway and pushes it onto the driveway, so I need to redirect it a little bit. Need to also pick up a little leaf blower. Lots of other outdoor projects to do but those will have to wait until I finish the rest of the inside. I am anxious tho to get going on my landscaping plans!

***Don't forget to say "RABBITS" tonight/tomorrow morning!

My mother would have been 102 in September! I never would have thought about it if you hadn't mentioned yours.
