Dec. 26 - The Day After

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Dec. 26 - The Day After

Postby Colliemom » Tue Dec 26, 2017 8:37 am

Good Morning. Really enjoyed reading all the Merry Christmas posts yesterday. Hope you all had a wonderful day no matter how it was spent. Lookng forward to hearing about them and if Santa brought anything really special for you. I had a wonderful day with myself yesterday. Went to mass in the morning and it was beautiful. The cantor who is a soprano, sang O Holy Night during the offertory and it was just beautiful. Takes a special voice to hit those hit notes and she certainly did. Made my day. Then put beef stew fixings in my slow cooker and spent the day watching the wind and snow, some great Christmas movies etc., Decided not to go over to cousins as we were and still are under Winter Storm Warning. The westher outside was a bit frightful, the house warm and cozy and the smell of beef stew was in the air. I was very content. Course having a furry body curled up by your feet on the couch at one point isn’t bad either. Only hing missing was a fireplace.

But today is back to reality. It’s cold out, 1 degree above and wind chil of -17. There’s what looks like maybe 10 inches of snow in the drive, we are stiil as I mentioned above, under a Winter Storm Warning for another 4-8 inche till 5 p.m. tomorrow and wind gusts of 25-30. Right now it’s kind of quiet. I will be heading out there eventually to clean up this stuff and get ready for the next. Gonna be a tricky day for those who want after Christmas bargains or are returning things etc. some places have seen as much as 20 inches already. The snow related businesses are estatic. Motels are booked, the ski resorts are saying best Christmas week in years. The snowmobilers will be rolling off I-75 by the droves today. Private plow drivers are busy as are the restaurants etc. Kaching! Is the word for this week.

So, going to get cleaned up and ready to tackle this day. Have a nice day everyone :D

Good morning Sue & everyone!

Sue, I can only imagine the picturesque view you have with the snow and with the wind you're having, drifts of snow being blown around. If you plan on going outside to clear the drive, take lots of breaks.

We went to church yesterday morning. I subbed for the organist again, as she is still under the weather from kidney dialysis. Much of the day was spent with our neighbors, partaking in appetizers, main course and dessert. Everything was delicious. I was really tuckered when we got home and slept well last night.

We don't have any plans for today and I'm looking forward to doing nothing. Beef stew is on the menu for dinner with salad as a side. Have a good day everyone!

Santa brought exactly what I was hoping for and had been asking for - an overnight visit from my daughter and her husband. This is only the third time I have seen her in all of 2017, as they were living most of the year in Denver. She and husband have recently moved back to California.

Waiting for Santa to deliver my other present today - a visit from my son and his lady. An overnight visit as well, I am hoping. A "late Christmas", as he had work-related issues.

What can be better than that? Both of my children live several hours away.

O Holy Night is my all-time favorite carol. One rarely gets to hear that high note, most singers (and versions one hears on the radio or television) nearly always fudge onto a lower note. I wait for the note, and wait for it, as the song goes on - and when it doesn't come it is a bit of a let-down. I always wonder, what with so many singers in the world, why they don't just have someone who can sing the note. On those rare times when I am lucky to hear that crystal high note, it absolutely sends chills down my spine.

I do have a real, wood-burning, fireplace in my home (one of the reasons I chose this home). It has the glass doors on the front. I had a nice, gentle fire flickering all day in my fireplace Christmas Day, and it was just lovely. I really like to look at a fire in a fireplace, especially during the Holidays, it really does seem to add the Holiday ambience.

Had to open a window, though, because it got really warm in the house, what with the fire going and all. The high temp outside yesterday was about 60 degrees, so an open window helped to cool things off.

Thought I might have to run the a.c., just to cool things down.  (just kidding about the a.c. part!)

I had a lovely slow day -- videochat with son and his wife (oh how I love technology!), IMs with the rest of my family, a long slow dinner on the beach, and hanging out around the "fireplace." :D

Good morning gals!

I slept in yesterday and then headed on up to Dana Point in the afternoon. Hung out at near the marina watching the waves crash onto the rocks there and then over to Doheny State Beach. Lots of people out along the beaches, walking, cooking out, playing volleyball, etc. Almost everyone I passed, said "Merry Christmas" to me. Was a very nice day! Here is the video I took...(turn on the volume).

Yesterday morning I went out to my porch to discover part of the ceiling is caving in. Looks like one of the supports for the foam ceiling panals came loose for some reason, so I found a long piece of wood and put it up against it to hold it up from coming down completely, until I can get someone over here to look at it and fix it.

Today, I have some phone calls to make and then work on my "homework test" for school. Tomorrow is the last day of school! Yay! It was very fun and very interesting and will be fun and challenging to start as a new career but I am ready to have more time to work on the house and do some fun things for the rest of the winter.

Might do some painting today or tomorrow in the living and dining rooms and get that done before the floors go in. Also should do the master bedroom too. Have a couple weeks to get that done yet.

Sue, the snow day sounds fun but only for a day or two as long as I would be inside looking out! I certainly don't miss the extreme cold temps and the getting out in it!

I forgot I had bought myself a couple of games for Christmas, a golf pitch 'n putt game, and a small tabletop pool table. Will have to get those out and have a little fun!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a great "day after"!

I've spent a good hour going through all my storage areas which have so much less in them to find my humidifier. I got all excited to discover what I had in my hands was my mini DEhumidifier... Last thing in the world I need... And it is missing it's power cord. I'm betting that got thrown away in my cleaning frenzy when I couldn't figure what it went to. :? Now I'm guessing I put the dehumidifier in the rig and the humidifier in my storage at the casita. It might be cheaper to buy a new one than to drive all the way there just to pick it up... especially not knowing for sure that it's there. I'm just a tad frustrated with myself lol

Oh well... Life goes on. I'm about to cut up a watermelon... One of my favorite things. YUM!

To continue... Ordered a new humidifier to arrive Friday. Then went to cut the watermelon... For the first time in my life I bought a bad watermelon :( Actually, maybe I'm lucky on that...I was going to cut it up for our park dinner yesterday. Had I counted on it, I wouldn't have been happy.

Sheila. On another note, searching for the humidifier I found the package with the much for you. I had completely forgotten about it. Make sure we remember at Q!

Sue, if I had to face all that snow I would be a recluse for the winter. Our weather is best described as messy. It's in the 50's with a steady mist falling. I thought about going to Lafayette but gave up that idea. Beth, I could send you a lot of humidity.

I wouldn't mind having a fireplace to sit in front of. I have one of those little electric heaters with the fake fire. I guess I could dig it out and sit in front of it. We are in a real bind if the power goes out when it's freezing because our house is all electric.

I thought my cold was about over but it seems to be hanging on still. I think I'll go back to bed with the cats. They can sleep about 20 hours a day.

Was sitting here this morning wondering what to do about the ceiling when I heard a knock on the door. A guy introduced himself and said he was a local handyman at the park and wondering if I needed anything fixed. Well, as a matter of fact... An hour later, my ceiling was fixed! He took down some of the panels in the ceiling and there were a bunch of wasp nests up there. No wasps luckily, but just old nests. So I knocked them all down before he put the panels back up. One less thing to take care of.

Have the next two days off so I can get caught up on some stuff around here like laundry, cleaning, bill paying, etc. plus some painting, besides finishing up with school.

WOW Barbie you are living right ha ha What a find. Get his number you might need him again for something.
Not much on my agenda this week. Waiting for all the holidays to be over and 2018 to get myself back on track for projects and a routine. Also need to get back to my healthy eating. Getting rid of all the "goodies" that have lived here since Halloween.

Going to the grocery store so I can start making a few meals in my Instant Pot to freeze. I find if I have to cook something when I am hungry I tend to eat the wrong stuff. So if I am able to just pull out something from the freezer and warm it up it stays healthy eating. Need to lose 10lbs and also start walking more. I am on it!!!!!!
