Damp Tuesday

Woke up to much needed rain, we're in a drought here in Central Illinois. Too late to help the farmers, but hopefully it will tamp down the dust.

Having lunch with my brother today, fingers crossed he leaves the politics at the door, we have very different views, and while I don't mind an occasional conversation about it, it's his passion and all he usually wants to discuss.

Damp here in mid-MI, too, but not raining (that was yesterday). I'm pleased! It looks like we'll be able to have dog parkour in the nature preserve tonight. :D

Martha, so glad to hear you don't have to evacuate this time. I've been thinking about you a lot while we keep hearing reports from Houston and wondering how bad it is further east.

Liz, are you excited about the Roadtrek? I'm so eager for photos.

Damp and dreary here too Queen but we didn't get much rain. Probably just enough so the guy who mows will put it off another day. He has been slow to mow this summer. Good luck with your lunch, I understand, one of my brothers is the same. I get really upset by anything that is discussed with too much passion. Heard too much arguing when I was a kid.

I have a massage today, much needed as I wore a different pair of shoes most of the day on Sunday, did yoga yesterday and I am hearing about it from my bones! Long to do list that I have been putting off, our wills need to be updated and it is surprising how much time and how many decisions are involved the older one gets.

I found a former student worker I knew back in the mid-late 70's on RV Village! Was I surprised and boy did it make me feel old, he is retired after 38 years of working after graduation :o

It is hard to imagine all the horrible destruction in Houston and other areas in the path of the storm. Thinking about you Martha and hope you stay safe.

Finally got another day off! Gonna be a hot one again today, pushing 100*. So I will stay inside and do more unpacking and organizing. I got the bathroom done yesterday before heading to work.

Martha, I am glad to hear you are safe and dry down there!

Mickey, I hate being around people who insist on talking politics when we are not on the same page. Even when I try to change the subject, they go right back to it! So frustrating!

And BJ, I am the same as you with loud voices. I get very stressed around arguments, shouting, etc.

Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning from Sheridan, WY! I am continuing on my way east. I drove over Hwy 14 from Greybull to Sheridan. A most beautiful, spectacular Hwy that I have ever been on. And, a geologists dream! No pictures as it is a 20mph white knuckle route. Stopped at a FS camp at 9,000feet. Cold in the morning. Had to come into a McDonalds to get out of hot clothes into shorts!
Keeping all those in TX, Houston area in my thoughts as they go through this hurricane. Martha too!
Happy to hear Sarah is OK. I have written to you but you haven't returned.
These Mac Donald's are a nice break and all have wi-if!!!!! Good coffee and I like their salads.
Now onwards to either Keyhole Res. Or Bear Lodge Mts. Haven't decided yet. Lyn

I'm here in Napa, getting ready for a bike ride to pick up some prescriptions. I finally got my brakes replaces, front and back, and don't even want to think about the big cost. Guess I just have to consider it a cost of life and traveling. Ugh, however!

This afternoon will be laundry, and then I have a paper towel holder to put up and some cabinets to touch up with stain. Guess I really live an exciting life. Next week I head up into Oregon, so I am looking forward to getting closer to the ocean, which will be a lot more exciting.

In the meantime, it will be a really hot weekend here, but my son's new house has a pool, so I imagine we will be hanging around there all weekend. Better than out in a crowded campground for the big weekend.

I'm on my third day in Belgrade, MT at the home of a very good friend of my son's who used to live down the street from us in San Jose. This is my first camp driveway experience and their one-acre, fully fenced property is beautiful. My pups are having so much fun being off leash which they normally don't get to do. These pics are only half of their property.

Yesterday we went to the Montana State University Museum of the Rockies where we saw the planetarium show and all the exhibits with my favorite being the dinosaurs. Great museum! In the afternoon we drove to the gold mining towns of Virginia and Nevada City. We tried our hands at gold panning but came up short. We did find, however, some nice, but small garnets.

Tomorrow I'll head out ultimately toward Washington. I have no idea where I'll be staying the next few days through Labor Day.

Well, its past noon, but I wanted to say hi. I finally got the entire front yard done!!!! Shrubs pruned, edging done and grass mowed!!! It was so neglected these last couple years it was a huge chore. Have done some in the back but still need to continue on that and then get it mowed too.
Dad is STILL loading me up with items I DO want but shudder to think of my gas expense going home. Good thing I didn't have much heavy stuff coming out here. Can't tell you how many times I hear those words,,,,"this goes in the motorhome" or, "this needs a new home" . After this, those words will bring fond memories when ever I hear some say them. There are other phrases too he says that will make me smile.
My tummy tells me its time for lunch, y'all have a great day, be safe and hopefully everyone stays dry.

I went into town and the roads weren't bad. We didn't get much rain last night and this morning so a lot of the water has drained off. The fields and ditches are all full so a lot of rain in a short time would flood the roads again. My son said they are having to evacuate people South of Lake Charles. My ex-sister-in-law lives over that was. Sure hope she doesn't flood. She lost her house from Hurricane Rita. The storm is suppose to move East some and then North. It is suppose to pick up speed going North. I will be glad when it's out of here.

I need to go spray the ants around the house. They are trying to find a dry place on the hill. Last night I had to make a moat for the cat food to keep them out of it.

I was on a Greyhound bus trip one time, and the guy in front of me turned around and tried to engage me in a discussion of current politics that were not of my flavor.

I kept saying - politely - things like "I'm not interested" and "I don't want to talk about it". Repeatedly. He wasn't taking the hint, and was getting pretty worked up over the fact that I (a total stranger!) was not agreeing with what he had to say.

Finally, at the end of my patience, I said (softly) to him: "Can I ask you a question?"

This seemed to be just what he was looking for, and immediately got a very self-satisfied look on his face. For a second, anyway.

I then said, very loudly (so that everyone else on the bus could clearly hear me): "JUST WHICH PART OF 'I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT' IS IT THAT YOU FAIL TO UNDERSTAND?"

That finally shut him up. He even got up and moved several rows away. For a minute, though, it looked like he might hit me. It was worth it, though. Jerk.

One year I ended up with an extra ticket for the home tour Abbeville has every year. I invited a neighbor to go. All she wanted to talk about was politics. The tour last about 2 hours and a trolly takes you from house to house so I was a captive audience. The old saying "No good deed goes unpunished" kept going through my mind.

When I was going to put stuff in the storage POD back in MN, an old friend offered to help. On the way back home, he started in on politics (total opposite views than me) and I kept trying to change the subject but he kept going right back to it. I was stuck for an hour in my car with him! I kept telling him I am not interested in talking about it and have more important things to deal with. He just kept right on! I was a wreck by the time I got home!
Why do they insist on trying to cram their ideas down other people's throats??
